Unroot? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How would I go about unrootong from cm6 to stock? Also what about the radios? What radio to use with what ruu? I used the easy root method and I then went back to the start over stock 1.47. Thanks

I would like to know this too, despite the forum police.

Then do a little search. There's about 5 threads on how to do it. In this forum and in Q&A.

There is not a specific thread about how to unroot from clockwork. I have read everything from just accepting the update to running all three ruu exe files. I am tired of all of the stupid wrong forum and search posts. More people with power trips than wanting to help....

THIS
It was only a few threads down from this one. Secondly, if you think Clockwork is the issue, why not just flash AR Recovery then try to unroot? Before you ask how to flash AR recovery, please do a search... That's how I did it.

Thanks for the reply. I know how to flash AR. I also have the ROM Manager, so I can switch between the two recoveries. I am just concerned that I will be leaving something irreversible on the EVO if I simply run the RUU. Ideally, I would like to completely remove all traces of root, if that is even possible. With Froyo with Sense dropping today, I don't see any reason for keeping root other than wireless tether, which I can live without.

except until early releases of Android 3.0 come out then you will want to re-root. You know you could just wait until a rooted Stock Froyo Rom is out (probably shortly after stock is released).

If you're rooted just flash a rooted rom, there's a few out already.
And: post in the right section.

My bad on posting in the wrong place, im on my phone and figured someone in this section would be the first to know, I appologize. I flashed a rom already with the new ota but I want to update the radio and 4g too and I read that aside from the possibilites of having 4g connection issues via bad mac addresses the new radio will cause problems with my old hboot and once I go to the 2.10 version rooting is not possible. I was just looking for any info saying otherwise but its a bit hard on the phone app to scroll through everything. I'll just wait until someone gets the root working and then unroot via s-on ,ruu back to stock 3.29 and dl the ota via HTC software update. Thanks for the time.

[Q] How to install a ROM?

I think this will be my last real "noob" question. I've done some searching, but no real clear answer.
Just how exactly do I install a ROM? I'm thinking of trying both Virtuous and Cyanogen, just want to test them first. And do I still need to use / have the goldcard I initially made to downgrade the firmware, or can I turn that into a "regular" SD card again?
PS - With Virtuous, will using something like LauncherPro slow it down? Or will it not matter?
Thanks again in advance.
EDIT: I also kinda need to update the radio, I have no mobile data on the stock 1.34 radio...lol.
I bet you could of figured this out by googling "how to flash rom on g2/dz" faster than typing this question lol. Get rom manager, flash recovery with rom manager, download rom you want from rom manager, click okay...pretty easy stuff.
Sent from my Vision using XDA Premium App
However sometimes this does not work. A manual install of whatever comes down to downloading and dropping the .zip file of the ROM and whatever Google App pack into your root SD mount. Boot into recovery by Pwr+Vol Down, do a full wipe of both cache and the phone. Then Install Zip from SD card, flash the rom, then the gapps. Reboot.
Yes your back key will function in root.
Edit: When mounting your sd card onto the computer make sure USB debugging is on.
Thanks guys, I did end up figuring it out, now I'm just trying to flash my radio...there's 1 thread with goo dinstructions, but they're still not clear... eugh.
I feel more and more noob with this haha.
Well do a lot of reading before you go and install just any radio.... Make sure they are compatible. I don't want to see your next noob question be "I bricked my phone please help"
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
you will learn by your mistake.
That's how i learn it.
No, I made sure to read everything I could. I just couldn't find any noob friendly radio instructions. I installed Virtuous, just trying to update to the recommended radio. lol
Rmk40 actually just released a program all about radios. Go check it out.

SERIOUSLY, careful. No offense, but if you're not sure on the details of how to flash a ROM, chances are you don't have the knowledge to safely flash your radio.
I feel competent flashing roms, pushing files with adb, and radios still freak me out. If you mess up, there's not turning back =/

I have a ROM flashed now. Just haven't found any real concise instructions on how to flash a radio.
The problem I find with most of these guides is that they say "If you don't know this blah blah google it", rather than explaining the method and how to do it / why it is important.

I think you should get clockwork mod premium and check out the options on there, it will basically download the rom for you and complete all the necessary steps to have a working install. I've been flashing roms since the G1 in 2008 and I still have some small issues here and there when doing it manually but if you want a safe bet, go with the clockwork mod app :]

I used it already to isntall roms, but can you flash radios with it?
Radio flashed...still can't use browser though...bleh.
why flash your radio though? I'm using CM7 RC4 with Pershoot kernel en stock radio... reaching up to 30 hours of uptime (with average usage) and good connectivity.

Honestly I came from an Evo and was not used to the labeling myself so I took a week to figure **** out before doing anything. But there is a thread that says full restore for Ek02 and EL13..
Edit: fyi- that's two separate threads.... you make your choice plus if you looked at the stickies or search the wiki it would give you everything with links

I was planing on going stock and rooting again so i could overclock and flash a rom sooner or later. So i guess that would be the best way with that link
That thread will give you ek02 kernel and ek02 rom, but not the modem.
Flash the modem separately if you want it.
Alternatively if you want to start from scratch, odin the eg30 factory restore from my signature, then immediately apply the ek02 ota update.

Hope it worked out for you but there is no need to go back to stock unrooted to achieve your goal unless thats what you want to do
sfhub 's methods work awesome
Is there an easy way to go back to 100% stock no matter what modem and everything else you have? This one mentions if you are on a certain version of something you won't be able to flash.

If you have access to Odin i'd recommend flashing over one of the pre-rooted packages.
You can use the ie22 GB rooting method according to Qbking77, and that way you won't need to ODIN or flash anything and lose your data.
Also next time post in Q & A so you don't get flamed

The odin method does work... you have to odin a custom kernel to make cwm stick... then flash cwm with odin... then flash su.zip via cwm...

Honestly, since Rodderik responded to you in the one click root method thread, I would use the thread he linked you. You can't go wrong with anything he says, and Qbking's videos are always spot on as well. To be safe, I would do one of those. Back up all your apps and your homescreens and go from there.
