Honestly I came from an Evo and was not used to the labeling myself so I took a week to figure **** out before doing anything. But there is a thread that says full restore for Ek02 and EL13..
Edit: fyi- that's two separate threads.... you make your choice plus if you looked at the stickies or search the wiki it would give you everything with links

I was planing on going stock and rooting again so i could overclock and flash a rom sooner or later. So i guess that would be the best way with that link
That thread will give you ek02 kernel and ek02 rom, but not the modem.
Flash the modem separately if you want it.
Alternatively if you want to start from scratch, odin the eg30 factory restore from my signature, then immediately apply the ek02 ota update.

Hope it worked out for you but there is no need to go back to stock unrooted to achieve your goal unless thats what you want to do
sfhub 's methods work awesome
Is there an easy way to go back to 100% stock no matter what modem and everything else you have? This one mentions if you are on a certain version of something you won't be able to flash.

Wait, what happened to the 1 step unroot thread that simply required you download and install the zip file? I was planning on using that tonight.

yep .. thats what I was looking for .. gone it seems. I just unrooted mine I believe. I had a completely stock backup with the odex files and all .. all I did was flash the recovery image using odin after restoring the stock recovery and then a master reset.
the links I used to get the stuff I needed were:

last page of this one to get the recovery since the link in the first one doesnt work

stock ROM:

I didnt use this since I had a backup but this is the stock ROM that you can probably use in jangst123 method instead of using that deodexed one... but I didnt do that ... so I cant confirm that myself .. although .. couldnt see why not.

Well wouldn't unrooting bring you back to stock status? Either way hope this helped.
If your using the stock zip make sure you flash stock kernel first and then stock rom or you'll be stuck with custom kernel logo if you had one installed.

eh not really .. I was using a "stock" but rooted rom. I was looking for the keyword of unroot... which is probably why I didnt see that one. Since there are stock ROMs that arent really stock like rooted and all.

If you have access to Odin i'd recommend flashing over one of the pre-rooted packages.
You can use the ie22 GB rooting method according to Qbking77, and that way you won't need to ODIN or flash anything and lose your data.
Also next time post in Q & A so you don't get flamed

The ei22 method is the same method for el30 and it most defenitely requires odin... but you don't lose any data...
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
So I'm still pretty new on the E4GT forums, having recently come over from a Nexus one, which was quite a bit easier to mess with as far as ROM's are concerned, and much less easy to brick. About the only thing that could brick an N1 was flashing a radio, and new radio's didn't come out that often, so no big deal.
I'm currently running Calkulins EL29 mod with an FC14 modem on my E4GT, but I'm really wanting to mess with the testing builds of CM9, I really miss CM. All the steps seems to spread out across multiple threads, so I want to make sure I do it correctly so as not to brick.
1. nandroid backup, backup, backup
2. boot to download mode
3. load stock cwm el26 through odin
4. flash cm9 zip
5. mess around with it.
Where I'm a little confused is how to get back to where I was should I decide to wait some more. How do I get back to the EL29 CWM so that I can then restore the nandroid backup? Also, will I need to flash different modems again, or can I stick with the fc14 modem through all of this?
Please understand that I'm not a total n00b at all of this, been flashing all kinds of ROM's on my old Nexus one for two years, just don't have much experience with Sammy devices.
You just want too flash roms and themes?

Themes, not really, but ROM's yes. It's just a bit confusing cause I see things like, you need this CWM for this, you need to flash this, or you need to Odin that, you need this specific CWM for this, or you need to get back to stock before you fan flash or Odin this or that.
But what I'm really wanting help with at this moments, is the testing build of CM9, and then how to get back if I don't like it at this time.
Ok....I download roms straight from xda app and then I go to recovery......do a full wipe....wipe data/wipe dalvic/wipe cache/wipe battery stats.........then I install .zip (rom) then reboot.....that's all I do,its pretty simple

The problem is that CM9 is an ICS ROM, you can't just flash willy nilly as there are a lot of reports of people bricking their phones cause they didn't use the right recovery. How to flash CM9 on is not my problem, it's how to get back to EL29 if I don't like the current testing build of CM9.
Ohh yeah....I don't mess with that stuff lol,can't take a chance.......but everyone says don't.
And I love cm7 can't wait for cm9 to be stable

The guy you just quoted... just told you where to find that information. :what:
This has been discussed ad nauseum all over the forums, and if you do a bit of research you will find the exact procedure. Since I'm on my phone, kinda a pain to type it all out. But he's right, the point is to get back to stock GB rom before restoring any GB nandroids. (specifically before wiping any partitions, but that's yet another long explanation.) This issue And procedure is the same for ICS leaks, for cm9, for AOKP.
Look for a sticky thread in general titled "how not to brick your phone" or something.
Or, god forbid, actually read one of the ICS/cm9/AOKP/leak threads. I swear, every third page you will see someone ask this and the process described.
And QBKING77s videos have a step by step explanation for this as well. Really the best way.
And yes, you can keep the modem, no matter what rom/kernel you run. Same thing as a "radio".

I'm not new to flashing ROMs on my Evo, however your forums here are a little more cryptic. My son rooted his phone and flashed CWM and a Cyan Rom. He would like to return to rooted stock. Here you go
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
Instructions are on that page, just make sure you use the full restore, and not the preserve data or you can brick. At the current point we don't have a kernel built from source yet, because of this, you must flash back to stock rooted EL29 via ODIN OC or you will brick. I highly suggest you read my thread in my signature because flashing anything ICS for this phone can be extremely dangerous and will brick your phone if you aren't sure what your doing.
Just to be sure you are looking at the right thread, please go to settings>about phone. Make sure model number is SPH-D710. I only say this cause I haven't heard of a Cyan ROM, and (not trying to be a jerk), most people refer to this phone as the epic 4g touch. You got something weird up there, and there are at least 20 different versions of this phone (galaxy s2).

Ok, reporting back.
First we tried the 'don't overwrite data' option, everything appeared to be ok until the phone rebooted. It sat on the 4G splash screen in a continual restarting state for about ten minutes. We tried flashing that twice. After that we tried flashing the factory restore with root option, that worked just fine.
Thanks again for the input.
Now he'll have to restore all of his desired apps, but that's his problem, since I told him not to root in the first place. LOL.
Cheers.

Quickest way is to use one of sfhub's many one-click stock-rooted options. From there you can install a custom recovery and then start ROM shopping, but please, please, please read everything thoroughly and ask questions 'before' flashing to avoid bricking your phone.
As far as custom ROMs it's going to depend on if you stay on GB or jump to ICS. I've only used Calkulin's GB ROMs and they are great, for ICS I've used Venum's ROMs, Agat63 and currently run Blu Kuban by Rujelus22.
Good luck and happy flashing, remember when in doubt ask and wait for an answer.

It really seems preference at this point, battery life for me on ICS isn't what it was on GB, but I'm on the latest release of ICS MIUI. LOVE IT. Have fun, and as mentioned, read the sticky relating to" how not to brick"
Have fun!

The linked program roots the phone as well as giving you the ability to easily flash a custom recovery. It is through that custom recovery that you will flash roms. Also get acquainted with ODIN! It is very important and you'll need to use that program if you decide to return to GB. Search qbking and EPIC4G Touch in you tube. He will walk you through the necessary steps.

Look to be honest you came from the iPhone. I'm not starting a war here lol. Stick with GINGERBREAD for awhile, you will thank me! Flash different GINGERBREAD Roms! Why? Because you will get the hang of things! I bet one of your questions will be
"I flashed a recovery, but when I flashed a new rom, the old recovery I flashed is no longer there?"
Get use to the phone first. Read a lot we can't stress that enough. But if you need a guide to walk you through step by step I'm offering my help to you! & so you can see how Android is way better than iPhone! lol
Edit: I personally don't suggest you jump to ICS just yet. Because messing with ICS will cause you to brick your phone! Dead, wasted, basura, R.I.P..... so get the hang of things and remember ODIN & MOBILE ODIN IS YOUR BEST FRIEND

Fair enough, I'll stick with GB for awhile. And take you up on your offer, lol
So if I want to try a different rom, how do we go about that? Do I need to root first?
