Broken screen - What do I need to flash the phone to stock? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Well, I dropped my phone & cracked the screen. It still works & believe it or not, I prefer the broken EVO to my treo pro.
What zip do i need to use to flash my evo back to stock before I send it back to the insurance company?
Thanks,
Rich

You shouldn't need to. This is a hardware issue. Rather sure you can just wipe your data off it and return it to them.

Just run the ruu from sprint (this will unroot your phone) or flash a rooted stock rom to keep your phone rooted.

light leak, sprint store, rooted and flashed, need to go back to stock

I had my evo a while now and just notice some light leaking out from the bottom right corner. I am thinking about trying to return it and get a new one.
So, I have read on this forum some where in the past on how to return to stock but I can't seem to find that thread any way.
Can some one please lead me to where and or what I need to to do go back to stock..
Thanks in advance.

Flash to the stock rom or go use sprints over the air update to froyo.
That'll push it back to stock.

you want to unroot? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743192
If your going through HTC directly just return your phone as is. They don't really care about the software if the replacement is due to a hardware issue. I'm not sure if sprint will be as finicky but my guess is they will be about the same.
What I've done is go to a sprint repair center. They tend to be fairly intelligent and generally swap right there.
Why would you get trashed for asking a question like that? The only reason I could see would be that it should be under the Q&A section, but if you think you'd get trashed because you asked a question about unrooting, I would like to know who's been giving this community a bad name. Not that I could do anything about it, but I like to think that we're pretty friendly here.

Ageed. Theres nothing wrong with unrooting especially if you are trying to get a replacement.
Run the RUU ?? I think that should put you back to unrooted stock.
NO NO NO

Dont run any RUU you wont get it up and running anymore.
Hi, I am unable to hookup to my laptop due to usb port loose/faulty connection. I will be taking phone back to BestBuy to either fix or replace. Well- would like to anyways. So how would I do this if I cannot run the ruu or HTC sync? Could I just put the step 2 pcimg. On my sdcard and flash that? I was unable to get my pri to update so I have flashed the zip file that just changes the numbers to be correct.
Thanks for any help.

[Q] Do I need to unroot

So I'm getting my number change.
Do I need to unroot for sprint to do it or can I stay rooted.
Thanks in advance
I'm guessing that you are on Sprint. I think that you can just call them and get your number changed, in that case I don't see why that you would have to, but if you need to take it in to get them to do something then that might be a different story. I think that they are required to take a note on your file if you are rooted or not now, but I'm not sure. I do have to say though that it is not hard to root again after you unroot your evo now. I have had to do this with a RUU in the past because of getting bricked for a few hours. My advice if you go in back up using titanium backup and unroot for the duration of the trip. That might save your ass in the long run. lol )

Then I don't see where you would have a problem with just calling them without unrooting. Granted if you still have doubts unroot anyways. I don't want to be the person who says yes you can leave rooted and then they tell you that your insurance is not valid any longer... lol. leave rooted at your own risk, but I don't think that it would be a problem. Hit thanks if this helped.
You need a stock Evo-based Sense rom if activation requires you to access menus through the dialer. Just to be safe, I'd do a nandroid backup and flash the stock rooted rom. When you're finished, just nandroid restore and you'll be good to go.

Number swaps don't require dialer codes. Only a profile update but yes you need to be on a sense ROM to do this.

Yeah, you should be okay leaving rooted especially if you're doing it over the phone. I've had to bring my phone into sprint before for speaker problem, stopped there on my way to Walmart a few days ago, didn't even think about it being rooted until they already had it in back fixing it, but they brought it back up all fixed up, and I still have my insurance, and the store manager asked me what I did to get my phone looking so cool lol... I took a risk and told him it was rooted, so I know they deffinitly now know...and he asked me to root his lol.

Will Sprint Take back my phone if I?

Will they take my phone back if I root it and flash a custom rom? Or do i need to odin back to stock before they take it back? I just got my epic touch today and i have a 7 day warranty with the store and a year warranty with samsung
They'll probably take it back, but just to be safe, odin it back so there's no risk. They might flag your account if not.
Honestly, with sfhub's full stock tar, you can Odin back to stock in less than 5 minutes. Have some fun and try a few ROMs. Going back to full stock is easy. His tar will get rid of everything except Odin Counter but they probably wont even look at that

Honestly I can tell you they will take back a rooted phone. And on top of that you cab simply say its a launcher unless they look at the software version. But even with a rom on it they will still exchange it. You can always flash to be safe but a repair center should do it either way. And I got this out of a corporate sprint service manager I know.

I had a super messed up phone that wouldnt odin or reset with a jig and sprint replaced it no problem. But if you can odin it and reset flash counter it is always better.
Ps. Most sprint techs have rooted phones.

Are you returning it or need service? If your giving it back don't worry about it. But service I would atleast stock it.

At first I just thought they wouldnt take the phone back in case I broke it, thats if I was on a custom rom. So from what I've read in this thread, I belive if I broke the screen or something and I'm on a custom rom, they would still take it back if I can flash it to stock with odin?

If you break the screen, you might need insurance to get it replaced. I am not sure about physical damage without TEP. I have insurance on both lines so I am not sure on physical damage policy

Activating Phone on a Rom

I dont have a nandroid of stock and the stock nandroids in the forums wont work for me. The reason I need to do is because my dad is getting this phone with my upgrade, so they first need to activate it on my line and then i need to activate it on his phone and then finally return my phone which has this flashed.
I am running CM10 can I activate my phone with this rom or this a rom I can do it in? I don't want to odin because i want to avoid loosing data.

You can activate with the ROM installed. Do it online so you don't have to go to the store. All you will need is the phones unique ID.
That can be found on a sticker under the phones battery or through the phones about menu item in settings
Unique id = meid
