[SOLVED] How to fix missing email account [after battery died] - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

PRetty much says it all. I was running titanium, Energy rom. Battery went dead, and now I can't access my email. In titanium it still shows my email account, but if I click on it, nothing happens. If I turn on Max Sense, I can read all of my old emails on the email screen, but I can't view any of them. If I click the mail link through the start menu, it only offers to setup a new account. If I do, and enter the same account name, it says the account name already exists.
Anyone know how to reconnect the email box? I am guessing it is something in the registry?

The easiest thing to do (if you turn on MaxSense) is to go to the Mail Tab, press Menu > Account Settings > Delete the e-mail account. Then you can recreate the account.
This has happened to me and several others in the past. Although, this hasn't happened to me for a few months now, and I don't know what causes it.

Thanks! You led me right to the solution:
If you go to the mail tab, press Menu, got to account settings, then instead of deleting the account, click edit.
Amazing! There is no incoming or outgoing server info in there!!! Weird! I replaced it, also had to replace my password, though username was ok. And Voila! Got my email box back.
Thanks again.
Still no idea why this happened. At the same time my 3G stopped working. I had to resetup my ATT connection, and also had to go into communication manager and turn on data connection. Super weird. Anyone have any ideas?

Hmm...When I tried to do that when this happened to me, it didn't even recognize the accounts! All I could do was delete them. You got lucky! Glad you got it working, though!
Maybe you could try reflashing your radio (since your 3G stopped working -- unless, of course, AT&T's towers are down in your location). Or you could try forcing your phone into 3G in Comm Manager (tap the 3G bar > Network Type: WCDMA > Done) then go to Start > Settings > Connections > Connection Setup. The latter method sometimes helps me reconfigure my data.

Thanks for this idea, it fixed my identical email problem too. I think somehow the 3g connection setup wizard is erasing the email server settings. It might also be resetting the credentials in the registry. I had to reenter my activesync server password which still worked besides that.
I rebooted my phone and couldn't get the 3g to start. It wouldn't even try. I've manually fixed the auth fail type of errors before, where it starts to connect, drops, and retries. But this wasn't even starting to connect, so I reran the setup wizard.
The really strange part about being able to restore the server settings via sense is that the mailbox doesn't even show up in the normal windows mobile email settings program. If it wasn't for sense I wouldn't have been able to fix or delete this mailbox.

Touch Pro 2 and gmail

I have had my TP2 for a few days now and i love it, except for the fact that I cannot send or receive email from my gmail account
I can access the internet fine, and use the youtube app fine, but whenever i try to send an email or hit send/receive i get this error message
"CANNOT CONNECT WITH CURRENT CONNECTIONS SETTINGS. TO CHANGE YOUR SETTINGS, TAP SETTINGS"
When i set up the email the only things i was required to supply were my email address and password....so i am assuming the problem lies with the way my handset is trying to access the gmail account, ie. trying to use wifi or something? (i dont have wifi, so i will only be using the "unlimited" interent provided with my t-mobile UK tariff)
has anyone else had this problem or do they know how to get around it as i have finally got myself a decent handset where i can (allegedly!) check my email on the move, but yet i somehow cant get it working?!!
Ihave tried both hard and soft resets to get this sorted but it just wont work and i feel like pulling my hair out!

I know it's not much consolation but it just worked for me...
I have a SIM free TP2 and UK T-Mobile Web'n'Walk.
Incoming mail server is imap.gmail.com
Account type is IMAP4
Username is my full gmail username
Outgoing mail server is smtp.gmail.com
outgoing server requires authentication is ticked
All this was set via automatic configuration.
Hope this helps,
Richard
This is what i have done to recieve and send Gmail trueout the standard email client on my Pro II.
First of all you have to enable imap at your gmail account which you can find under settings.
Then on your phone do the following settings.
- make an new account in your email client
- fill in your gmail adress
- fill in your name
- fill at incomming mail "imap.gmail" and account type "imap"
- fill in your account name (gmail adress) and password
- fill at outgoing mail server smtp.gmail.com
and those two checkboxes must be checked
- auto recieve and send is up to you
hope this will help you
ther's a known bug in windows mobile poutlook...
sometimes the autoconf for gmail doesn't work...(i had the same issue on my omnia)
you only need to enter the account details by hand..
to do that, in the first screen where your address is asked, enter [email protected]
leave it without the final m.
after that fill in manually all the account details, then when finished edit the account and put that m in the domain...
that should work...at least in my omnia was the only way to get gmail working...
I used this guide en it works perfectly

hi, thanks or all the replies, most appreciated.
however, i have now established that i can get my gmail account working - but only over wifi!?!? when the wireless router is turned off i get the same message as before, so there must be a setting or something that is telling my TP2 to look for a wireless connection when performing a send/receive, rather than using the "internet" (if thats the right term) that is included in my contract..AAAARGH...
i have had a look but cannot find any settings for this so i must be going mad?
can anyone shed any light on this for me before i go mad??!!

Disable proxyserver, don't have the place where you can find this. I have a dutch rom
I have a gmail imap connection on my HTC Touch that was working great but has failed to connect for the past two hours or so.
I found that to change from Download 30 Days to 7 days and it worked fine.
Oddly I returned my TP2, and switched back to my VarioV, same problem (had worked fine until then). New TP2 is now here, so will start with 7 days and try expanding to 30 days later.

does anyone know how to do this? i cannot find this option anywhere?
is there any way i can see how my tp2 is trying to receive data from my gmail account, ie. if it is trying to use internet or wifi?!?
also, does anyone have any details for the settings that their tp2 (on t-mobile UK) is using when trying to retrieve email (not by wifi)??!
i'm also assuming that t-mobile wont be able to help me as i got my phone/contract via a third party and t-mobile themselves dont seem to stock the phone themselves....
I had this problem, it drove me nuts until I worked out what it was, if i was already connected it would work but it would not establish its own new connection.
To fix it go into the email settings for the account, then select:
Edit Account Setup
Next
Next
Next
Next (Outgoing (SMTP) mail server screen)
Click the “Advanced Server Settings” Link
In the “Network connections” it defaults to “The Internet” but if you have gone through the “Connection Setup Wizard” when you first installed your SIM it renames the connection, in my case to “T-Mobile Internet”.
Change “Network Connections” to the correct one i.e. “T-Mobile Internet”
hey presto, you can now get your emails
hope this helps everyone

if the connection has a proxy in the setup, than you can use that connection only if selected like above...
if you leave "The internet" the proxy settings are ignored...you have to select the exact connection..but this will prevent the gmail to connect with wifi

Help. Can't send emails.

I've been successfully using my email on the TP2 for months but suddenly find I cannot send emails from my accounts. It may be that I have deleted something in the registry by mistake or accidentally changed some configuration. Before I wipe clean and re-install everything (a daunting thought), is there something obvious I might be overlooking? (Stock 6.1 ROM, SPB shell)

We'll probably need a little more information to go on...
-What happens when you try to send? Any error messages etc?
-What "accounts"? Using the regular WM e-mail client? POP3/Imap?
-What carrier are you with? The first step will probably be to double check the standard e-mail account/network settings, the latter of which are particular to each carrier.
-Have you confirmed that you can receive e-mail to any/each of the accounts you can't send from?

More information: I have set up gmail accounts (Imap) on the standard WM email system. When I press the "send" key, it highlights but nothing else happens. The page remains as it is. I can receive mails but cannot send. I have checked the network settings and all is fine. As I said, it's been working well for months, but suddenly not. I have recently been setting up the phone with new programs and minimal registry tweaks but can think of nothing that conflicts. Is there something obvious I'm missing? Or some settings I should check?
FYI...
I had the same problem recently. I have the Tilt2 and have a Hotmail and AT&T accounts on it. Like davidgee said, everything worked fine and then all of a sudden, I couldn't send any emails. Hotmail is my main email and I would get a Windows Live app window saying that the email couldn't be sent and to try again later. (A couple of times it would tell me that my time wasn't set correctly and to check it then try resending the email. Still not sure what that has to do with it.) This lasted for about two weeks and now it is working fine.
Something I did try was changing my AT&T settings on the phone. Originally it was using the default settings that the phone received from somewhere. When I noticed the problem, I went and changed the POP3 and SMTP addresses to what was listed in the AT&T email help site. I could then send emails, but only from my AT&T account.
I wasn't able (or couldn't figure out how) to change the settings for my Hotmail account. The settings would automatically go to the Windows Live app included with the phone.

Yeah, if it's not even making it as far as your inbox or drafts folder, then it doesn't sound like it's even trying to send it, so the network settings may not have anything to do with it.
Have you confirmed that the outgoing server is still set to smtp.gmail.com:465? Also I do notice a checkbox for "send/receive when I click Send" in the e-mail setup dialogs, just making sure you saw and confirmed that one too.
I'd give it a couple of days before considering anything like a hard reset, just in case it ends up clearing itself up like jcterry experienced. Other than that, the only other thing I might suggest is deleting the account off your phone, then re-creating it again from scratch.

Email function not connecting

When I go to email and enter my password, it says "Connecting" then Logging on..." but then it goes back to the screen asking for my passwords, followed by this error message:
Messaging
Cannot connect to the incoming mail server. Be certain that your login information is correct, then try again to send and receive mail.
I know my info is correct because I can access my gmail through the Tilt 2's browser as well as on other computers. I'm currently using monx's ROMeOS ROM but this was happening on other ROMs too. How can I fix?

Do you have IMAP/POP3 enabled in your google options? You have to have that setup first before you can access/sync using poutlook.
Previously my Fuze always worked and this new Tilt 2 did sometimes.
After reading your suggestion. I went into my gmail settings. IMAP was enabled and POP was not. I enabled POP but it did not help. Hmm.
I realize there is a fix for WM6.1 but is there anything for WM6.5? I can't be the only one to experience this problem.

I noticed that your login is also case sensitive. So let's asume you entered Cam123 as a login but try cam123. That solved my connection problems
did you use the email wizzard, or did you put the settings for the email setup there youre self?
I had the same issue with my email account.... problem whas/is that when windows checks online for settings, it downloads the wrong settings (incomming & outgoing mailserver were wrong)
Then I used the email wizzard, and that worked great! all settings work correct ...
hope this helps you.
Good luck!
Thank you but it's not a case-sensitive issue.
I entered my gmail account information by going to Email, then entering the data.

Send/Receive not Receiving, but its sending.

Hello, I'm a bit confused at this problem. I just yesterday upgraded to WinMo 6.5. Seems to be working fine except my gmail account isn't working right. (It was working on 6.1). When I click send/receive, it doesn't download any messages (even though I have download messages from last 3 days).
It just says: Connecting, logging on, looking for changes, finished.
However, when I *send* e-mails, they recipients get them.
What am I doing wrong?? I didn't use exchange or outlook or any of that stuff. When I was setting up my phone from startup I Just put in my userID and password.
Also another side question: I Would like to install a custom rom, but since the devs are updating and making fixes very often... how am I to update them? Would I have to hard reset and install it all over again for the minor bug fixes?
Thanks
are you using pop3 and not imap for fetching the messages?
did you setup the account by typing server addresses or by selecting gmail.
you are probably using POP3 and those missing messages get downloaded already to your PC.
imap is working more smoothly for me. is more advanced and newer, just it could take little more data.
set the account manually, you have to go around little to do so, on first screen, when asked to put your email address, mistype it, don't put gmail there for now. "[email protected]"
go through all settings, set it to imap and then go back through option to edit that account and fix your address.
-don't forget to allow imap access in your gmail account through web-mail in internet browser
if you insist on POP3, chenk other devices you use for mail if there is "leave messages on server" option ON
i am not quite sure now, been not using POP on gmail for a long time, but I have a feeling that gmail's interpretation of POP is IGNORING "leaving messages on server" option, so having 2 devices POPing mail is not possible and you'll need to use IMAP at least on one

you have only three options
1. ignore updates
2. just download updated app and install it over the old one.
- not recommended if you don't know about how OEMs are working,
2. yes update always and then you can have a lot of different tools to help you get back where you finish with the old one. backup/restore, provisioning scripts, reg files. and though you will need to set quite a few things first time, to match your needs and private settings, after that, every time you flash or format, you are where you've been.
I made couple of them too, packup is working just fine for me,
you can try sdautorun and place your settings in CABs on SD card too.
Thank you, it seemed to work. I had deselected and reselected Imap, did a send/receive and nothing happened. Set my phone to charge and then I come back and all my e-mails had been downloaded.
Thanks for the custom rom info. I think I'll just stick on stock 6.5 for now. If the ram usage gets too much then I'll go for energy rom.

WiFi on + radio off = Browser but no E-mail? WTF?

I had this problem on my BlackBerry, too, and I figured it was some stupid RIM thing. But now I'm having it on my Touch Pro 2.
I want to run on WiFi but with the radio off -- like when I'm roaming someplace expensive, but in a hotel where there's WiFi. When I do this, I can browse just fine, but the Inbox (standard WM mail program) says it can't make a connection. When I turn the radio back on, the mail comes through... but I don't know which connection it's using.
Anybody know how to fix this? Or at least, what's going on?
I dont know exactly what the problem is here, but i've always had this problem, I actually havent even tried just wifi in a while. I would say just use the http version of your email when you turn the radio off to save the frustration
I found the answer.
The connection that the Inbox uses to contact the server is set in the server settings -- so you can have a different approach for each server, I guess. Anyway, it's:
Tools > Options
Then tap the name of the server you want to change. On the next screen, tap Edit Account Setup. Then it's Next, Next, Next, Next, (4 of them) until you get to the screen that says Outgoing (SMTP) mail server: and lets you set up an outgoing server. At the bottom is a link that says Advanced Server Settings. Tap that, and look at the pull-down for Network Connection. There should be one called The Internet, which does NOT exist in Start > Settings > Connections. As far as I can tell, that's the WiFi. If you choose that, then tap Next until you tap Finished, Inbox will retreive E-mail via WiFi even if the radio is turned off.

Thanks!!! That works well on every pop-email-account for me!
But how can I choose the connection for my hotmail-account in the inbox? I found no way to prevent using the GSM-connection without switching the radio off, when I try to update my hotmail-account.
Anybody knows how to fix this?
