[unrooted] same PRI 1.34 - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I decided to unroot to see if the PRI would go back to 1.4..I used the most recent RUU to unroot. I had to extract the RUU and rename the rom.zip to PC36IMG.zip push to sd and boot into the zip that way. Seemed to have success unrooting, but my PRI remained 1.34. Is there any way to get the PRI updated? If i found my MSL and did a factory reset would that work? Or think I can call sprint and play dumb and say I got a replacement from BestBuy and it has an older PRI than my first phone. Also will I get OTA's now? Think when Froyo is released it will update the PRI as well?
Thoughts?

Its been well known that unrooting does not give you back the 1.40 PRI version.
I don't see HTC/Sprint updating the PRI for FroYo but who knows... and yes now that you're unrooted, you will be able to get OTA updates again but on the same token, you're taking a gamble on never having root abilities again.

Man that sucks. I really feel my phone dosent perform like it did before root. Dont get me wrong, root has its perks but I would rather have my 3g speeds back.

I want to see some conclusive proof that the PRI is tied in with 3G speeds... I've yet to see it. In fact, my rooted Evo outperforms my friends' unrooted Evos most of the time by 50-100kbps...
The Evo just has a jacked up radio.

I unroot to factory stock 132.651.1 then i did automatically download until get 147.651.1. I did all updates and still PRI 134.003 and nothing. How i can fix to get 1.40?

another noob question :'(

well i finally rooted last week and so far all is well and i love CM6 and everything else about having root but there are just a few things ive been wondering and searching for that i cant find a straight answer for.
1. ive been reading that when i unroot my pri stays at 1.34 and doesnt update to 1.40. if i update it before i unroot does that solve my problem? or if i unroot then install the 2.2 official rom that is coming out soon will that also fix my problem?
2. rooting broke my 4g and i thought it was just cm6 but when i flashed a rom with working 4g it justs kept saying connecting to sprint will unrooting fix this?
3. and lasts i actually want to unroot because my phone is just acting a little crazy with all these roms ive been using nothing is 100% and i keep getting an error 170 and ive tried reinstalling htc sync and ruuing from fastboot and i just cant figure out what to do if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
Try doing this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715915
That should give you latest version with latest radios which might fix 4g problems. Did you flash latest radios before flashing CM6?
As far as unrooting you need to get stock 1.47 RUU and flash it. From what I read your pri will not revert to 1.40 but before you do this try the link I posted as that should make you completely stock with root. If that doesnt work I would also suggest you search for 4g fix, there are tons of threads on this. If all else fails you can unroot but it is much easier to troubleshoot your phone will its rooted. Just my opinion.
alright i did what that link said my phone is acting better but i cant tell if 4g is working since i only get it at my job my pri is still 1.34 just wondering if the pri actually affects things and if it will mess me up if unroot without pri 140 thanks for the help
Currently once you root your PRI goes to 1.34 permenatly. It shouldnt have any major effects on your phones performance. If yuo unroot your phone stays at 1.34 aain shouldnt cause any issues unless you try to exchange and find the exceptionally with it sprint rep.

PRI and 2.2/froyo question?

Yes I searched for this but got lost...sorry!
So I unrooted my EVO to prepare for the upcoming froyo update. PRI is the 1.3 one...am I just hoping that it upgrades the PRI to 1.4 or should I wait to install froyo until PRI FIX!
A better question is why the f%$^ would you unroot your phone?
this doesnt belong in the dev forum however. Currently there is no known way to fix your PRI. Including updating to froyo at least the version floating around now.
not sure why you would unroot your phone you can already put a root friendly version of froyo on your phone so no need to wait.
Thanks for the input. Not sure why this would not belong here when rooting is the PRI culprit to start with? Anyways I unrooted simply because after experimenting...it is just not for me. I don't feel any further justification is needed. My question was a simple one for a true developer I thought. I guess I will just update the OTA FROYO and cross my fingers?

Hey, I bet this would be better accepted over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=652
Unrooted android = iPhone with smaller market and widgets, lol
Some suggestions for asking where your question should go:
- Where did you get the PRI/etc.? Maybe you should post in that thread.
- Since you're using a stock ROM and I'm sure you d/l'd it from somewhere, maybe you should post in that thread
- Your question might be best answered by a developer but it's not "development"
Just my 0.02c.
Seriously omegasun18 why would you unroot your ph, u should know it's only a matter of time when our good old buddies here post a custom rom base on the official update. You can go ahead and install/ update to 2.2 if you want. Am still rooted and running the stock 2.2, my PRI is 1.34_003, have not en-counted any issue at this point..

UH...I never thought about it that way! That was good advice for sure as my real plans would have been to have original froyo that I could explore and thus if I rooted, then I would have a better feel for which way to go. I still would like to go this route as a personal way to go but have concerns with that PRI 1.3 still...
I used simple 1.47.651.1 to root and Htc Android update utility 1.02.10 to get back to 1.47 unroot. Only thing not original is the 1.3 PRI...

As far as I know, there is no downside to the 1.34 PRI compared to the one with the higher number.

Maybe not for you specifically or some others, but there is deff a difference and it does effect some users in some areas.
Heres a link to the PRI thread where it has been discussed in the Q&A section for you to read up on and see the things the PRI actually does.

Maybe the OTA Froyo this week will just include the 1.4 PRI and that will be that. I am gonna try it and if I blow up then I won't do it again...Hahahaha!!!

You could simply wait for a rooted release to be given here. It will be the same rom, only you won't possibly be perma-****ed. You could give it a try, see if it updates the PRI, and if it doesn't then you could install the official OTA. Just realize, you could easily be closing the door to root forever and you have no way of knowing.

OTA v1.47 included PRI 1.40, as does OTA froyo. The newly released froyo does not update PRI beyond 1.40 which was included before in OTA 1.47.

If you are root you will have PRI 1.34. PERIOD. PRI is tied to HBOOT, and the only rooted HBOOT we have is the ENG HBOOT with PRI 1.34. I've you still have a hardon to change your PRI, the only way it's going to happen is if you are NOT ROOT.
As far as I know I am not rooted...HBOOT 0.79.0000...and connectbot denies adb permissions etc. The only change from stock is that PRI 1.3 which has my data transfer all whacked up...and very inconsistent. Some say the PRI has little weight in the Android scheme of things but on my end it does in a big way...
If infact you have to have 1.3 to root then I guess I am only left with taking my chance that the OTA updates the PRI to 1.4. I live in the area where hurricane Katrina busted us up and this may have a direct impact on why my particular setup runs better with the newer PRI.

This is incorrect. No update includes any PRI except for the eng-HBOOT. And the PRI included with it is 1.34. Check your facts, because someone follow you blindly.

Wrong again. Once you root using the eng-HBOOT you will have PRI 1.34, whether or not you are rooted. Sprint has not released the 1.40 PRI yet, and know one knows when they will. I pretty sure if the new 2.2 froyo update included PRI 1.40, everyone experiencing issues with PRI 1.34 would have found their solution.
So to sum it up. Once you have 1.34 you are stuck with 1.34, unless you return your phone or a dev gets someone in sprint to release the 1.40 PRI.

I had the same issue with 1.34, many on this forum and other forums have the same issue that you are reporting, but those that do not have the issue say that there is none. I would take back the phone, and since you will have 1.47 software when you get your new phone, only do unrevoked3 method or keep it stock.
When I had PRI 1.34 my speeds and connectivity was horrible 20Kbps to 90Kbps was on a good day. With my new phone and PRI 1.40 my speeds and connectivity are phenomenal with .96Mbps to 1.4Mbps on a bad day.

I am still considering the OTA froyo and see if it updates...if not then I will try a new one and wait to root until a better handle on the PRI is obtained.

HELP!!: OTA (1.47) wanting to install upon boot!!

ok, i thought the 1.47 OTA would download to my sdcard...it didn't. But i wasn't quite convinced it was on the device so i clicked "install update" w/ the sd card pulled...as soon as it began i pulled the battery. Now, whenever i boot it automatically goes straight to the black update screen (with the hard drive icon) trying to install the OTA !!!
How can i stop this and boot normally back into 1.32??? w/o forcing the 1.47 update!!
(i am unrooted btw) THANKS FOR ANY TIPS!!

I could be wrong but i dont think there is a way to stop it if unrooted. in good news even if you let it update to 1.47 you can still root (just dont go to 2.2) so not sure why you would want to stay at 1.32

thanks. i hadn't backed up everything yet. also, i had unrevoked so i hope this doesn't drop my pri down to 1.32 from 1.40 (i guess i lose free tethering too)...other than those things, i was just about to root and get froyo!
so, you don't think i can boot into recovery and wipe something before it completely installs upon reboot??

Not without root. Whatever is trying to run is almost certainly on /system, which is not writable without root access. Just let it go and root after that.
Also, NEVER PULL THE BATTERY WHILE THE SYSTEM IS FLASHING! That's a real good way to end up with a half-written (bricked) ROM.
Just let it update to 1.47 and then use Simple Root or whitslacks method to gain root again. Then flash back to 1.32 if you so desire. As mentioned before, do not allow it to update to 2.2 as there is not yet a method to gain root for the OTA 2.2.
Furthermore, check the dev forum for the PRI issue. They need someone with an unrooted OTA 1.47 with a PRI 1.40_003. You could be everyone's hero.

It probably tried to flash, found nothing there, and removed the instructions from the boot process. So you may have gotten away with it. Check your software version in Settings - About Phone to see where you ended up. Also, is your SD card still out of the phone? It may be waiting to spring back on you when you put it back in, but just let it go anyway if that's the case.

I don't think you can, that's why there's a bounty out for it. When you root, your PRI will change to 1.34 because you have to use the engineering ROMs. Correct me if I'm wrong.
You don't want to just upgrade to 2.2 OTA . . . unless you WANT to block root until somebody finds a way to root Froyo on the Evo.
PRI aside, you should probably root from 1.32, no reason to go up through 1.47 and you'll avoid the "Main Version is Older" problem.

great, thanks! i will root and go straight to 2.2. I guess there is no known way to keep PPI 1.4 and actually root. ...it just gets to me that unrevoked users can keep PRI 1.40 and full rooters can't...there should be some way!

I wasn't aware of that, but the reason is probably that Unrevoked users can't flash any ROMs that would update the PRI anyway.

oh...what ROMs wouldn't update the PRI? My friend is an unrevoked 2?3? user and i know he has tried a few different ROMs ...one of them being DamageControl, most recently. He has also tried a few different kernels.
***EDIT: Here are the steps he took:
1) Started w/ Unrevoked 1
2) OTA'd 1.47
3) Unrevoked 3 from 1.47 (then was able to flash froyo rooted roms
4) He still doesn't have nand access, but he flashed the following roms: Fresh (most recent), Burnt Droid, the odexed Stock "FINAL" by netarchy, and DamageControl. Burnt droid didn't take, but neither did DamageControl at first, but now works fine. His recovery is ClockworkMod.

[Q] Will running Evo RUU give PRI 1.40?

Will running the update from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=760068&highlight=exe update the PRI to 1.40, or is PRI strictly OTA?
No the RUU does not contain the PRI.
currently the only known way to update the PRI is one of the many methods on the forum involving the hands free activation. It is still very hit or miss. it also seems some methods work great for soem and not at all for others. I know it took me over 100 tries to finally get updated. I am not in an area where i gain much from it either. I am just a sucker who likes to know his phone is completly uptodate and that if i need to unroot for service reasons they will have no way of knowing now.
I was just thinking of doing the ruu or the ota to see if I could get the 1.40 back since Unrevoked 3.2 is out. Oh well.
Sent from my FROYO'D EVO using xda app
Well if you need the PRI 1.40 then the best step is to flash a rooted 2.2 stock Rom and then apply the PRI update. You can use one of the "How to" PRI update from the Dev forum. There have been many success from users who use the "No wipe" method to update their PRI...
I appreciate all the help, and I appreciate not being flamed.
However, I have tried these methods, MANY times, including the newish" use fresh" rom with no success .
yea it is hit or miss. all i can say is if you are determined to get it is to keep trying it. like i said it literally took me over 100 tries using just about every method. i finally got it after trying the fresh method by just doing ##768# method without flashing any diffrent rom etc. the first time nothing i did a plain reset when i loaded back up 1.40.
it can be discouraging but if you keep at it eventually you will get it. just dont expect to do it 2-3 times on any given method and automatically have it work.
EDIT: repost
If you have a 1.47 evo or eariler it is a simple process to upgrade with out wiping data and maintain root. Although you will be running Sprints stock software, you will have total root nand and flash. Did it on two Evos last week. See my post on the thread below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748335&page=6

Q. Ran the latest Evo ruu but it didn't update pri?

Is this normal? I'm getting my sister in laws Evo back to stock form and in hindsight I probably should have ruu it to 3.70 and accepted ota from the but I didn't and went w 4.53. Everything took perfectly but pri is still the 1.77 I dropped in there last year. Phone is currently s-on. She hasn't gotten it back as it was ran over by a few cars and I just put it back together. She needs to reactivate it so will it update after activation or is it forever 1.77 until another ota drops which should bump it up?
No, RUUs don't update the PRI.
Really, there isn't much need to do so.
1.90 actually caused more problems [wake locks and such] than helped anything.
