Will running the update from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=760068&highlight=exe update the PRI to 1.40, or is PRI strictly OTA?
No the RUU does not contain the PRI.
currently the only known way to update the PRI is one of the many methods on the forum involving the hands free activation. It is still very hit or miss. it also seems some methods work great for soem and not at all for others. I know it took me over 100 tries to finally get updated. I am not in an area where i gain much from it either. I am just a sucker who likes to know his phone is completly uptodate and that if i need to unroot for service reasons they will have no way of knowing now.
I was just thinking of doing the ruu or the ota to see if I could get the 1.40 back since Unrevoked 3.2 is out. Oh well.

Well if you need the PRI 1.40 then the best step is to flash a rooted 2.2 stock Rom and then apply the PRI update. You can use one of the "How to" PRI update from the Dev forum. There have been many success from users who use the "No wipe" method to update their PRI...
I appreciate all the help, and I appreciate not being flamed.
However, I have tried these methods, MANY times, including the newish" use fresh" rom with no success .
yea it is hit or miss. all i can say is if you are determined to get it is to keep trying it. like i said it literally took me over 100 tries using just about every method. i finally got it after trying the fresh method by just doing ##768# method without flashing any diffrent rom etc. the first time nothing i did a plain reset when i loaded back up 1.40.
it can be discouraging but if you keep at it eventually you will get it. just dont expect to do it 2-3 times on any given method and automatically have it work.
EDIT: repost
If you have a 1.47 evo or eariler it is a simple process to upgrade with out wiping data and maintain root. Although you will be running Sprints stock software, you will have total root nand and flash. Did it on two Evos last week. See my post on the thread below

well i finally rooted last week and so far all is well and i love CM6 and everything else about having root but there are just a few things ive been wondering and searching for that i cant find a straight answer for.
1. ive been reading that when i unroot my pri stays at 1.34 and doesnt update to 1.40. if i update it before i unroot does that solve my problem? or if i unroot then install the 2.2 official rom that is coming out soon will that also fix my problem?
2. rooting broke my 4g and i thought it was just cm6 but when i flashed a rom with working 4g it justs kept saying connecting to sprint will unrooting fix this?
3. and lasts i actually want to unroot because my phone is just acting a little crazy with all these roms ive been using nothing is 100% and i keep getting an error 170 and ive tried reinstalling htc sync and ruuing from fastboot and i just cant figure out what to do if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
Try doing this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715915
That should give you latest version with latest radios which might fix 4g problems. Did you flash latest radios before flashing CM6?
As far as unrooting you need to get stock 1.47 RUU and flash it. From what I read your pri will not revert to 1.40 but before you do this try the link I posted as that should make you completely stock with root. If that doesnt work I would also suggest you search for 4g fix, there are tons of threads on this. If all else fails you can unroot but it is much easier to troubleshoot your phone will its rooted. Just my opinion.
alright i did what that link said my phone is acting better but i cant tell if 4g is working since i only get it at my job my pri is still 1.34 just wondering if the pri actually affects things and if it will mess me up if unroot without pri 140 thanks for the help
Currently once you root your PRI goes to 1.34 permenatly. It shouldnt have any major effects on your phones performance. If yuo unroot your phone stays at 1.34 aain shouldnt cause any issues unless you try to exchange and find the exceptionally with it sprint rep.

I'm at a loss, as I remember reading it but can't find it any where to verify. When Sprint releases 2.2 Aug 3rd, since I'm rooted I should NOT accept OTA or force it to update...or ever do it, right?
Sorry for the dumb question, just wanted to make sure!
You should not.
thanks for the quick reply!
hi im using unrevoked3, how do i go about updating to froyo 2.2 when it comes out OTA? thanks!!
you dont until someone here roots it.
And go ahead and get off unrevoked now. Do a full root and use a rooted rom even if its a stock rom. You will be happier in the end. There are several methods posted in the Dev forum. Just pick one that matches the sweet version your currently running or follow the instructions posted previously in this forum.
Actually, I don't recommend full root if you can get by without it. Full root permanently screws up your PRI, even after unrooting. Until its fixed, people should only do it if they absolutely need it. You can use an ota update, but you will lose root until someone finds a way to root 2.2. Also, you can flash one of the stock 2.2 roms that are rooted. They should work with unrevoked.

It doesn't screw up your PRI, it just makes it a lower version. For some people this causes lower speeds on 3G; others are fine. But yes, once you do NAND unlock your PRI is stuck like that until someone figures out a way to update it.
I think flashing a 2.2 ROM with unrevoked and expecting it to stay rooted is a risky thing to do. I wouldn't recommend it personally. That is, unless someone has tried it and it works.
This is probably going to sound quite stoopid but I've tried to read up on RUUs and I still don't get it.
So, here's the question:
The original EVO RUU is on file at the XDA wiki
As are copies of each upgrade
Would it be possible on an EVO with either .3 or .6 Froyo to simply start over with the original RUU and then apply each update until at Eclair 1.47?
With the .6 stock rooted rom and the naked bunny 3.7.7 kernel I'm way happy myself, but for those with Froyo and desparate to get to root or for those who are simply too dissatisfied with things like Pandora being kinda broken - is this in any way an option?
I rather doubt it, otherwise I'd expect to have heard about this - but the whole RUU thing confuses me, I've never used (and hope never to use it) so I thought I'd ask.
Asbestos Underoos on, ready to be flamed if this is really that stoopid.
Thanks and cheers.
The RUU's are for upgrading your system, unless you are rooted you will not be able to install an older version than what is on your phone.
OK, many thanks. Promise I tried to search first.

Hey all,
Attention Read all before doing anything!
So I followed the ##786# and updated my PRI. Worked flawlessly, might need to do it a few times to work.
However my bootloader updated...and I could no longer ADB to my phone...So I re did my root, which restored me from 2.2 to 1.36..or which ever toasts Root version was for. It also took a bunch of trys...had to manually install superuser, then restored my rom.
gotta love NAND backup.
Anyway, any ideas? was im being stupid and doing something wrong? or does PRI .4 screw the bootloader?

Yeah if you read them right you would have known you didnt have to load any files just do a ##786 wipe and be done with it. might take a few trys. But good catch READ READ READ then read it again
I did that. And I got .4 pli. My bootloader changed to .70 and and stopped working...wanted to know if that was isolated or not

To clarify, in case someone stumbles across this and does this. Were you Rooted before running ##786#? Did you run Unrevoked forever? What method did you do to re-root your phone?
Thanks
I was full rooted prior by toasts method of Root & nand unlock.
I was on Hboot V .76
I never did unrEVOked Forever.
I did ##786# to update PRI from .36 to .4
Hboot changed to .79
I could no longer ADB.( i dont know if its a result of .79 or a coincidence)
I was looking through the forums, a post suggested redoing the 2nd part of Toasts Root(nandroid unlock) That just fubared my phone even more ha ha.
So I re did Step one, then Step two of Toast. However that did not work. I eneded up using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741294 then manualy updating Superuser.apk from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828
Hope that helps!

Hmmm... This is really odd. I am wondering how many other people this has happened to. I did the same update, ##786# without having unrevoked forever (something about putting my phone in a state that CAN NOT be returned to stock). I still have 0.76 hboot. I'm wondering if it is due to the ROM you were on. I know people are getting mixed results with different ROM's. Actully some are getting mixed results on the SAME roms. I had to run the update twice, for some it worked first try, others had to do it 5-10-20 times to work...
I'm waiting for this for a couple of days. Till its ironed out.

Afternoon all,
I will try to provide all of the information I can in hopes someone can give me an idea on where I stand and where I need to go from here to get my phone the way I would like it.
Incoming Evo information:
MEID - A100000D98BC65
Version - 0002
Baseband - 2.15.00.07.28
Kernel - 2.6.32.15-g746f4f0 #58
Build - 3.26.651.6
PRI - 1.34_003
PRL - 60674
Bootloader Information:
SUPERSONIC EVT2-2 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT- 0.93.0000
Root Method - Simple Root (forget which version)
Quick Background:
I don't know much about rooting phones but have come to understand the process and reasons behind it over the past several months. Purchased my phone on release, rooted it very early, all is great. I have always had the S-ON feature on my phone and it seems that several ROM's I would like to take advantage of require the S-OFF feature as to my understanding, it means you have "full root". I could be/probably am wrong here.
With the talk of backing up RSA keys to not lose 4G and other hiccups popping up, I want to make sure I use the best possible method to get everything as it should be. I currently ran the original PC136IMG (I believe this is the RUU) to bring my phone to "stock". My reasoning behind this was to push my phone to full stock and re-root to attain the S-OFF feature.
Now when I boot into bootloader and attempt to flash, I get a black screen with an EVO and a Red triangle/exclamation sign. What throws me off is because I can get into the bootloader, running the aforementioned RUU didn't seem to unroot me. To be honest, I don't even know if there is a full unroot method even avilable as numerous Google searches really give a wide variety of answers.
What I am trying to do:
All I would like to do is unroot my phone and then re-root it with a newer method so I can have S-OFF feature and update all my Radios/PRI/etc.... that I need to do so I can get the full functionality of my phone. I *think* Calk has a thread on this and although I have read it numerous times, maybe I am to dense to get it and need a helping hand. If anymore information is needed, I am happy to oblige. Thanks to anyone who can lend me a hand.
You kind of jumped the gun with the unrooting, you could have just ran Unrevoked Forever and called it a day. But now that you are unrooted, use Unrevoked 3.32 and that will fully root your phone for you, including replacing your recovery (I believe it gives you Clockwork). Do that, you'll be good to go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896298

Just go to settings system updates ,HTC update ,and make it phone search for ota,it should prompt u to download the 3.70 update and than ull know u r full unrooted and up to date, than run unrevoked ,,,,that way ull b updated and rooted...
Thanks for the quick advice. My only worry with unrevoked is I have heard that it has the possibility of losing RSA keys. Does that have any truth behind it or will unrevoked put me to S-OFF and from there I am golden.
I ran Unrevoked3 earlier today. I downloaded an Amon recovery img and had unrevoked install that (File / Custom Recovery) instead of Clockwork after hearing about some WiMax issues with Clockwork.
After completing the root, I did step 6A from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045. This should back up the RSA keys, after the fact at least. You need to be rooted to complete the steps using adb.
So far no trouble with 4G. It connects to sprint and lets me transfer data, so things look good. FWIW, my radio is 2.15.00.11.19, with PRI 1.90_003, on software 3.70.651.1.
Quick update. First, thank you all for your contributions to me with this. I went ahead and followed the unrevoked method and everything seems to look good on my end. All updates are there, S-OFF is on (terrible at puns), and all is well for now at least. Also, thanks for the help on that Skypoint but I have yet to venture into the wild wilderness that is adb which I will probably leave for another day. Anyways, thanks once more all as I do really appreciate it.
