Simple Root Step 2 Problems LOL - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I just started to root my phone and now I am stuck on Step 2 haha.
I have my phone in USB Mode, The HTC Sync and .Net Framework 4.0, duh.
And I bought my phone a week ago and applied the June 30th update.
However after successfully completely Step 1 and moving on to Step 2, I get an error that reads:
Running part 1....
error: protocol fault (no status)
Press any key to continue....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't heard of that error before, try deleting all files from your sd card (make a copy of them on your computer first) then start over.

"Un-brick" Imate JasJar After Failed ROM Update

First time post ...
I recently downloaded the 1.13.53 WWE ROM update from the Imate site and attempted to install it on my JasJar. The update failed leaving my JasJar in boot loader mode. No reset method seemed to work to bring it back up. Subsequent attempts to load the ROM update gave me the dreaded "Country Code" error. Here are the steps I followed to get the ROM update to succeed:
1. Uninstalled ActiveSync 4.0 and installed ActiveSync 4.1 as downloaded from XDA FTP site. Disabled firewall and Anti-virus. Rebooted machine. I am not sure whether this step was neccessary or not but noted that others had some success with this. At this point I was still getting the country code error when trying to install ther update.
2. Run the update but once you get to the first screen that asks you if you want to proceed, switch to the Windows file system using Explorer and set the current directory to your TEMP directory. If you are not sure where this is, open a command prompt (Start - Run - CMD - OK) and type SET. This will display environment variables. Look for the one called TEMP - that is where you want to go.
3. Search for a file called ROMUpgradeUT.exe or RUU.conf anywhere in the TEMP directory or its subdirectories. When you find the correct directory, copy the files to a new location.
4. In the new location, edit the RUU.conf file and add the following text at the end of the file:
[CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1
5. Save the file and then run ROMUpgradeUT.exe
At this point I was able to get past the country code error and the update began. The radio upgrade was the first component and it took the most time (about 10-15 minutes). The other 2 components upgraded the extended ROM and the OS but only took about 5 minutes each.
After getting the completion message on my PC I also noted a "100% complete" message on the JasJar screen. After a hard reset (soft keys and reset) the JasJar came up with the upgraded ROM in place and I was REALLY HAPPY!
I don't know if this will work for anyone else - use at your own risk but I wanted to share what has worked for me.
BTW - many thanks to all the previous posters who left "breadcrumbs" for me to follow in getting my JasJar back. This community is SUPERB!
Thanks again.

ROM upgrading issue: error 150

Hi
Since I have been given a brand new universal by orange after my old one died I thought I would upgrade to the Helmi UNI AKU3.5 ROM which is the most recommended here. However I cannot get my universal to accept the new ROMs. Firstly it was the country ID error and the provided package (with the .rar) does not work and neither does maupgradeut_noid_637. With the former I get most of the way through the process when 'ERROR 150: ROM UPGRADE UTILITY ERROR' stops it. I can't find any useful mention of error 150 here and I am now stuck. Any ideas anyone?
umm, I had a lot of troubles to update to aku 3.5...
2 days ago I got it.
I delete all files in the extenderom and then hard reset. update to radio 1.14 and then install the new rom.
I did it in boot loader... you too?
PD: sorry for my english
error 150
same happend to me,
how to solve:
1, Open activesync and in connections de-select usb connection.
2, Put your universal in "boot" mode
(press power button and backlight button and reset button AT THE SAME TIME)
3, connect universal with pc via usb
4, start Maupgradenoid...
follow on screen instructions.
that's it !

My Desire may be bricked

Hi just got my Desire, been a devoted WM user and all android is a bit strange to me. I have a Nexus 1 and love it but i thought i would try the Desire as my friend bought one and was able to use it to sync with our MS exchange server which i was never able to do with the Nexus 1. I was very impressed when i bought the phone that connecting to our VPN and syncing with exchange seemed to work well. I purchased the phone while on a convention trip to prague, as i was needing to connect to our exchange mail. After a few days with the phone It began rebooting on data connections without any notice and would often not reboot some times just flashing the white HTC screen and continually rebooting itself. I decided to try and root the phone to possibley stop this from happening using the excellent instructions from benko286 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189 .
i'm attempting this on a Windows 32 machine so im using the "Guide to root using Windows" after step 5 and running "step1-windows.bat" my Desire screen appears with HTC in the middle and each of the four corners of the screen has a triangel caution symbol. at the end of running the bat file in the command window just before rebooting to boot loader the last line said "FAILED (remote: 51 partition update fail)
and my Desire went into the aboved mentioned screen. I am able from the command prompt to re-run the step1-windows.bat file so I still have usb connection obviously but the same issue continues. I am not sure where to go from here.
My machine if restarted turned off (remove battery) continually comes up with this above mentioned screen, I am hoping that this is not an idicaction of a bricked device. I have tryed my best to go through the vast amounts of great information on XDA- developers, but can't find any pertaining to my situation. Is there anyone out there that can give me a point int he right direction?
Much appreciated.
Blaiz
I can't really help you with this, but am just posting to give this thread a little bump and keep it on the top of the list.
Hopefully someone here might be able to help you out. Good luck,
What is going on? This is the second time i've heard of this thing with the HTC logo in the centre with four triangles in each corner. No one seems to have any idea what this is and i've personally never heard of it throughout the last few months of owning a Desire.
hi thanks so much for the support, I guess lokoing back i should have put this in the tutorial thread. im not sure where i can go from here other than only using the Nexus lol.
this is what it finished with at the command prompt

is there a microsd card in the unit when you try this? Is your phone unbranded? Have you created a gold card?
I have tryed with the original SD card inserted and i have tryed with it removed i have also reformatted the SD card and inserted it then removed it again. The phone i bought is from The Czech Republic, Prague, it was bought unlocked and unbranded i believe from an O2 phone shop in Prague 10 days ago.
I will try the gold card method next but im not sure how to go about this state.
as i am unable to boot the device I can't seem to get adb shell to find the device.

Open up the phone in RUU mode and plug in your phone.
Download this and execute it

thanks abc27 downloading now
only question i have is should i not stay with the a similar rom and use a current stock ROM of 1.21.* instead of the 15 or will it matter to get me out of this situation?

such as the

I thought you were hboot 0.75 and I didn't want to upgrade your bootloader.
cheers thanks again abc27
is it fixed with it? ^^
i cant believe my luck or lack of it
downloaded the

I have tryed 5 times to flash and no luck maybe i should try another ROM file but which one?
Hmm that sounds quite odd.
Try redownloading ROM.
try this one http://www.wuala.com/HTC_Desire/RUU...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.zip
seems the file u downloaded is corrupted
tryed redownloading still exact same issue with
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
from

Alkymia the file you are directing me to is a zip file no? it doesnt seem to contain the RUU file.
it is a zip to flash it on ur bootloader, u must put the zip onto ur SD card and then try to flash it as u flashed the rom to root it, r u able to enter into bootloader?

[Resolved] OS X has locked up during step1-mac.sh - need advice

I've run into problems with step 1 of the rooting process.
I've gone into fastboot, connected by USB, run step 1, entered my root password and my whole machine has completely locked up with no mouse or keyboard at:
Code:
About to start flash...
< waiting for device >
I'm writing this from my Vista machine.
Is my Desire likely to be bricked?
Should I switch off the Desire, my MBP or unplug USB first?
Phone is showing black and white HTC logo.
Bump... Anyone??
I don't think it will make any difference in which thing you do first, just take it out and see if its bricked or not. If its not responding you don't have many choices right now atleast.
Btw, did something change on your desire screen? If not I guess it didnt start.
Did it ever say anything else other than "waiting for device"? If so, you should be okay. If not, then you may have created a very expensive paper weight.
If everything is okay, I recommend using TinyCoreLinux, which can be found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189 or even Vista, just make sure you've got admin permissions and you should be okay.
Or if you're not too handy on the old command line, which quite a lot of us are, try to root using http://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/desire/howto-root-your-htc-desire/
Dan
Thanks for the replies. I've rebooted phone and Mac and no bricking has taken place
Step 1 just ran fine after an initial hboot pre-update fail.
I'm reasonably happy with the command line and have read a couple of horror stories about unrEVOked.
10.6.3 hanged at < waiting for device >
I was being a bit careless and had itunes running and so my music started doing half second loops.
After a reboot it all went swimmingly and Goldcard seemed to work.

HTC One M8 upgrade failed

I have a problem. I have a tendency to destroy phones, which is why the last 2 phones I owned has been HTC M8. They are rugged enough for me not to destroy them.
However, 10 months ago the first one had problems with the battery, so I replaced the phone because it was cheaper than replacing the battery. The second one have worked fine, but lately the USB plug is worn out, so charging is becoming a problem.
This leads me to my problem. I (ofcause) bought a 3d one. This one was hardly used, and was 1 owner phone.
As it turns out, the previous owner had made 1 mistake. He had done the factory reset, but half way through it, it ran out of power. This means that booting it up, causes loads of errors: Gapps errors, Sense Home errors, Hangout errors and finally Google play service errors.
Now, I have worked with computers from 1991-2016 (including IT support for all the major companies) so I do know how to fix something like this - if this was windows . But since this is Android, I am a complete noob . I am just too stubborn to give up on this phone just because it has corrupt software . But this is a LOT more difficult than working with Windows I think Prior to this I have only rooted 1 phone, and that was in 2013 . I have been working on this the last 2 days .
So here is what I have managed to do so far:
I have unlocked bootloader through the HTC website and I can access the recovery program. Through that I have wiped cache, Ramdump, and done something like 15+ factory reset.
Through this I am able to get into the phone - sort of. I get a box asking if I want to send an Error rapport - and when I do that, I can get into the settings on the phone.
Through the settings, I have enabled developers options + enabled Debug, and disabled Fastboot.
I also tried to cleared cache on Gapps, google play services and Hangout - but that didnt help - so I disabled those things.
Now I can sort of use the phone. I cant update it, and it doesnt find the sim card. It does however connect find through wifi.
After all of that, I have been able to connect the phone to the computer though USB. I get both computer and phone to accept the connection (type in the code) and I can transfer files to the phone. It also works in HTC Sync software.
In Bootloader I can also get it to find FASTBOOT USB, so it does find something.
However, next step was that I had to root the phone using ADB and TWRP but I cant seem to get that connection working. Both programs finds no devices. So I am not able to actually root the phone.
I also tried RUU but had the same problem. Cant seem to get that connection working, so I can flash/root the phone.
Because of this, I tried to install upgraded versions of Android using an SD card. I can get the phone to read those zip files, but it always ends up with an: "Footer error" or "Verification failed".
I even tried the official HTC Android Marshmallow that you can download, but that came with the same verification error.
The only version that got close was an older version of the software on it. That one came up and said it was an older one, and aborted the installation because of that.
I have tried:
crDroidAndroid-6.0.1-20160826-m8
crDroidAndroid-7.1.2-20180117-m8-v3.8.5
crDroidAndroid-9.0-20190315-m8-v5.2
himauhl-3.10.84-perf-g09631a4
m8qlul-3.10.49-perf-g6f6e344
OTA507
So what am I asking help with? The simple answer is that I wanna install new android software - similar to reinstalling windows. The old phone had Android 5, and the first one Android 6. If I can upgrade to something newer, that would be a bonus, but I am good with "just" getting the phone to work .
So how do I get the phone to accept that zipfile for the android software? How do I get passed that Footer Error/verification error?
Oh and please explain the steps I need to take, for complete a complete noob . Simple steps will be greatly appreciated

This one came up with a Sideload package error - Status 255. From what I can tell by google, that is an error caused by CM or TWRP. Its suppose to be corrected by deleting some files in TWRP but I dont have TWRP.
So how do I solve this new problem?
