Does it not tell you how to do that in the rooting guide?

Which rooting guide you referring to mate the one u read told you how to backup the apps but not the original rom

before you install a new rom you'll want to flash a custom recovery image anyway, which supports backing up the whole system. Make sure to go through this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189 before you do it, or just use unrevoked^3, which does it automatically.

oh i think yes...but make a copy of the sd card after you backup your rom...if you make a ext3 partition for app2sd your sdcard will be formated
Also you can download a stock rom which will replace all....(tested with my o2 original rom)

1st should I install market apk and keep this rom?
2nd is there any way to flash another original no touched rom WWE from this forum download section let say RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.66_WWE_test_signed_NoDriver to this one as I tried with flasher it came it gaves error when chegking signature.
Please explain me if there is good way to do that to change WWE version and keep coming later updates on that version.
Thanks in advance
Google phones in certain areas of the world, mainly asia etc Do not have google apps installed.
Not sure why but it is the fact of the matter.
As far as I know the best thing you can do is install a custom rom with market included.
It doesn't matter what rom you install as you can always install a proper rom back anyway, and all official roms with do a full wipe of your phone.
So you can take the dive and go for any custom rom you want, it maeks no difference and will give you better perfomance (usually) and google apps.

In reply to the above
You can get a custom rom the same version as you already have installed, unzip the img file using 7zip etc on your computer and copy the vendor.apk file to your memory card and install it using Astro file manager and see if that will does the trick and also you could install market enabler.

There are modified versions of those .exe in .zip format availiable if not on xda site then defiantely on htcpedia.com but I am sure they must be here on xda somewhere.
I don't need modified I need let say official WWE version to put on my Malasyan ASIA 728 phone is that possible or I only can use modified versions?

Yes, but you need to create a Goldcard to bypass the CID checks.

Ok can you give me link to tutorial where it shows how to make goldcard and what to do after that because now my phone have RA recovery and I can flash every rom from my card. I need to use RUU flasher and not get error in midddle thanks
One more question if I make goldcard and then use RUU flasher and flash my Malaysian 728 rom Hero with WWE rom let say 2.73.466 so after that my phone will be WWE region and I can flash back to this 466 rom as now I can to my 728 or any time I need to use GOLDCARD?

want to flash stock 2.1 without root ?

hey i want to flash stock 2.1 on my htc desire because i am on orange and they dont get updates quick. if i do this will this wipe memory ? tbh am not bothered
you need to root your desire to debrand.
What do you mean wipe the memory, which memory do you mean?
if i root and get the stock rom can i still get htc updates ?
wipe the internal memory
If you wipe the internal memory you wipe it, so unless you have done a backup you will not be able to get it back. I would assume the Branded rom still has the auto backup to sd which you could enable. This will backup some settings but your apps etc will be lost.
If you flash with stock rom yes you can get updates (if there are any) but even if you cant someone on xda will release the updates, if you use the stock rom your phone is the same as stock except for cosmetic differences
Okay thanks for your help I am usin the auto backup but what will that backup? And can you direct me on how to root on Orange and how to install the stock Rom ?

You do not need to root to debrand - you just need a goldcard to bypass CID checking so you can install a generic RUU.
Regards,
Dave
thanks dave can you show me were i can do all them things please and also why do i need a gold card ?
You need a goldcard to force your Orange branded phone to accept a non-Orange ROM. Instructions on how to create one are given here.
Other than that, you need to download an HTC RUU file (from here, the second WWE RUU is the one you want) and follow the instructions - it is a Windows executable.
Regards,
Dave
thanks for this now which one do i downlod fromm these ?
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4. 05.00.11_release_122704.exe
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.
06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
The second one is the later one.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks dave after i make the gold card i put in to the phone right?
then if i want to debrand the the phone shud i opend the RUU file that i downloaded and follow instructions on there or shud i flash it on the phone?
am sorry am new to all of this
Correct on both accounts. However, if you have problems with the RUU process, you should be able to extract the rom.zip from it and flash it manually if needs be.
Regards,
Dave
okay if i do it on the computer and follow instruction do i need the phone in reovery or not ? If i do debrand will this errase all my apps and also contacts, sms etc..
if it does i have the auto backup what will that backup ?
Don't use the 2nd one unless you have bought an unlock code or have a generic desire that's not branded. Orange lock certain radios.

thanks i havent got a spare sd card but if i copy the 4gb card on the computer then format it on the phone and make it into a goldcard then if i foramt the gold card after i have flashed the rom can i copy back everything back to the sd card ?

stock roms

Got an unbranded deisre which i have rooted, and installed defrost 1.6c. Can anyone point me towards what stock rom I would need to put it back the way it was originally.
If I did put the stock back on would it still be rooted?
Bootloader was 0.80 when i upgraded.
Had a look at the stock and confused as which one i would need.

It shows all the stock ROMs, you must of been on the lateset one if your are on bootloader 0.80.xxxx
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe would be the one you need if you want to do it from the computer or OTA_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2-1.15.405.4_release_P4ohim1mtp6zggcyon.zip if obviously pushing
Yes you would lose root if you applied any of them
cheers for the reply,
pushing would mean doing it through rom manager into custom recovery wouldn't it and then wipe and installing it. Do i just put this rom on the root directory on my sd card and rename it update?
This then would put it back to its natural state and voiding warranty wouldn't it?

Don't use that one, it's an OTA update from 1.51.405.4 to 1.21.405.2. It contains only the changes between these two stock roms. I'd bet that'd really mess things up installed on top of defrost
Download this:

It's the full 1.21.405.2 ROM, you will need to go back to a Sense ROM to run it though as you need HTC Sync...OR run this from recovery

The 2nd link (the ZIP) should flash you back to stock...if you wanna use the full RUU you'd first need to go back to a custom Sense-based ROM (like MCR v3.1)

for the goldcard download goldcard tool, unxip and follow the instructions..

Agreed. I did this and it was easy and quick following tutorials on XDA.
One thing to note - if you decide to S-OFF also (in order that you can delete system apps, change partitions etc.), I found I couldn't get it to work while I was still running my (rooted) stock rom.
Once I flashed a custom rom it worked fine!
Don't need a gold card to root or flash a custom ROM, only if you want to flash a stock ROM different from your current one
Go to Settings>About phone>Software information and post up your software version and we'll see if a stock RUU is available for warranty purposes

ok, been asked to root someone elses phone?

i did mine about a year ago via the ancient gold card method but i assume there's easier ways to do it now?
could i just just straight to getting s-off add the clockwork mod recovery, backup, flash new hboot, install new rom?
Use a app called unrevoked on your pc, very easy to do, no need for s-off.
I have never seen the need to s-off my phone, I stick with stock H-Boot and custom stock ROMs.
Rooting
Hi guys, I'm about to try rooting my desire for the first time. The guides and tutorials on this forum are great but i was just wondering whether if i need to s-off as part of the root process in order to install customer ROMs such as Oxygen's gingerbread rom?
I'm going to use one of the noob guides to rooting here on the forums, one has got s-off as part of the process and the other hasnt. Can anyone advise which one is best to follow?

no you don't but if you s-off you can install custom hboots which give you more memory, but they are not necessary and you should do fine if you have an ext partition on your sd card. If you run out of memory you can install the zip to move dalvik cache to the sd card.
you can create a ext partition with rom manager just choose 512mb of ext and no swap
Installation
Perform a wipe of /data and /cache if coming from any other ROM
Download and install the ROM via recovery as you would any other ROM
You dont need s-off install on stock H-Boot

Or better go and install a ROM with data2sd my insternal memory is 2GB
Use the Unrevoked method so easy even i did it first time right all you need is to install android usb drivers and hook the desire up to the PC and the unrevoked program does it for you. the instructions are on their web site. And as to s-off there is not much need for it unless you really want to flash a cm7 hboot or something but there are plenty of roms that dont need it.
usb drivers are all good to go. i use adb on my desire anyway
i'll do the unrevoked method then and s-off after backups. (going to install oxygen for him). he's fed up of his desires battery life
Root
I rooted my desire with unrevoked, a friends hero with one click, another desire with unrevoked, nexus one with gold card and a SE x8 with z4 i think or one click..
I ALWAYS told them i'll be doing it at their own risk!

Just make sure he knows the risks of rooting, warranty, etc, although nothing will go wrong. As for s-off, I've never really had a need to do it. Also if someone is asking you to root there phone for them do you really want them having full root with s-off. I don't know if I would give someone who doesn't know what they are doing full access to any and all system files. That's just me though because I know some people can be pretty technology stupid.
he just wants the kind of batt life i get with mine and need s-off to flash the cm7 hboot for the extra data space since otherwise would need to throw in an ext partition and if he ever swaps the sd card out ..........
he wouldn't know how to do anything regarding adb to screw things up.
i have mentioned 'at your risk' though.

But i think you have to renember that you can find two diffetent versions of ROM . Cm7 wich need s off and a2sd or a2sd+ wich works fine on stock hboot.
