hey i want to flash stock 2.1 on my htc desire because i am on orange and they dont get updates quick. if i do this will this wipe memory ? tbh am not bothered
you need to root your desire to debrand.
What do you mean wipe the memory, which memory do you mean?
if i root and get the stock rom can i still get htc updates ?
wipe the internal memory
If you wipe the internal memory you wipe it, so unless you have done a backup you will not be able to get it back. I would assume the Branded rom still has the auto backup to sd which you could enable. This will backup some settings but your apps etc will be lost.
If you flash with stock rom yes you can get updates (if there are any) but even if you cant someone on xda will release the updates, if you use the stock rom your phone is the same as stock except for cosmetic differences
Okay thanks for your help I am usin the auto backup but what will that backup? And can you direct me on how to root on Orange and how to install the stock Rom ?

You do not need to root to debrand - you just need a goldcard to bypass CID checking so you can install a generic RUU.
Regards,
Dave
thanks dave can you show me were i can do all them things please and also why do i need a gold card ?
You need a goldcard to force your Orange branded phone to accept a non-Orange ROM. Instructions on how to create one are given here.
Other than that, you need to download an HTC RUU file (from here, the second WWE RUU is the one you want) and follow the instructions - it is a Windows executable.
Regards,
Dave
thanks for this now which one do i downlod fromm these ?
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4. 05.00.11_release_122704.exe
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.
06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
The second one is the later one.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks dave after i make the gold card i put in to the phone right?
then if i want to debrand the the phone shud i opend the RUU file that i downloaded and follow instructions on there or shud i flash it on the phone?
am sorry am new to all of this
Correct on both accounts. However, if you have problems with the RUU process, you should be able to extract the rom.zip from it and flash it manually if needs be.
Regards,
Dave
okay if i do it on the computer and follow instruction do i need the phone in reovery or not ? If i do debrand will this errase all my apps and also contacts, sms etc..
if it does i have the auto backup what will that backup ?
Don't use the 2nd one unless you have bought an unlock code or have a generic desire that's not branded. Orange lock certain radios.

thanks i havent got a spare sd card but if i copy the 4gb card on the computer then format it on the phone and make it into a goldcard then if i foramt the gold card after i have flashed the rom can i copy back everything back to the sd card ?

Does it not tell you how to do that in the rooting guide?
Which rooting guide you referring to mate the one u read told you how to backup the apps but not the original rom
before you install a new rom you'll want to flash a custom recovery image anyway, which supports backing up the whole system. Make sure to go through this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189 before you do it, or just use unrevoked^3, which does it automatically.

oh i think yes...but make a copy of the sd card after you backup your rom...if you make a ext3 partition for app2sd your sdcard will be formated
Also you can download a stock rom which will replace all....(tested with my o2 original rom)

Hi!
My HTC desire is on the new voda rom, not froyo but 2.1 - update 1.
I want to load a custom rom onto it however, will I need a gold card to do it and which is the easiest method?
The unrevoked method, even if I have windows 7 64 bit?
Thanks guys!

for the goldcard download goldcard tool, unxip and follow the instructions..

Then root with unrevoked.
also choose custom recovery in unrevoked and add amonRA its alot better

Agreed. I did this and it was easy and quick following tutorials on XDA.
One thing to note - if you decide to S-OFF also (in order that you can delete system apps, change partitions etc.), I found I couldn't get it to work while I was still running my (rooted) stock rom.
Once I flashed a custom rom it worked fine!
Don't need a gold card to root or flash a custom ROM, only if you want to flash a stock ROM different from your current one
Go to Settings>About phone>Software information and post up your software version and we'll see if a stock RUU is available for warranty purposes
Hi folks,
Any idea why my "unbranded" htc desire will not update OTA for the new update:
ota_bravo_froyo_htc_wwe_2.29.405.5-2.29.405.2releasedauh16jhok5cmdm6.zip
I keep getting explanation mark in triangle with status error 7...
Try running this RUU with the phone connected to the PC, ensure USB debugging is enabled on your phone. Create a Gold Card if your are not sure whether your phone is unbranded or not.
If you receive any driver/USB associated errors when running the RUU, check that HTC Sync is installed, run as Administrator, and temporarily disable any AV software.
If you still have problems, then try the PB99IMG (rename the RUU to PB99IMG.zip and place to the root of your SD card, then flash via the Bootloader screen) method as it is a lot easier than the first method I mentioned. Just remember that if you were branded before you will need a Gold Card to allow this method to work.
If you do try the later method, remember to remove the PB99IMG.zip file from your SD card afterwards or else it will run if you ever go into recovery mode.
yep MasDroid, just a thing, the link you gave point 405.2 rom ^^
for 405.5 try this one instead => http://shipped-roms.com/download.php?category=android&model=Bravo&file=RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
That's cool.. and I will probably use the RUU to update.
however does this mean I can't perform any future OTAs? What does status error 7 actually mean?
status error 7 mean a problem with the verification of the signature.
like when you try OTA with orange desire + HTC stock rom without gold card.
perhaps HTC work on the gold card back door?
anyway that's the crap if we no longer could make OTA with our unbranded desire...
I can't update my phone with OTA at all, just keeps coming back with error 7...
I have unbranded with stock HTC rom with a gold card! (as I used it to originally unbrand my phone).
feel lost...
@garpunkal
did you try to flash from your pc with the RUU from shipped-rom?
Try the PB99IMG method i posted above instead as you won't run into PC errors.
@tozneno thanks for the updated RUU link
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
you're welcome, Mas ^^
@tozneno I originally flashed my phone to unbrand to the 405.2 rom... now I have an OTA update and it fails with error 7... Do I now need to reflash to get this update?
You shouldn't HAVE to but it might be something HTC have changed to stop people using a gold card?? Who knows...
If you can download the file you could try and flash it manually
@MasDroid will the PB99IMG method wipe my phone? (reflash rather than update?)
Yes, PB99IMG method is the same as RUU, it will wipe the phone
EDIT: trying to find the OTA, going through HTCs servers, and it won't work so either the file name is wrong or they've pulled it
Yes, it will reflash the firmware.
It just a more efficient method than running the RUU, which can bring up all sorts of driver/usb errors.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
@EddyOS tried flashing it manually... renaming it to update.zip and doing the bootloader stuff... no luck...
Sounds like a duff OTA file to me
@EddyOs @MasDroid if it wipes the phone, I might skip this until the next major update....
Rename to PB99IMG.zip

Hello everyone, I have a problem here
I'm using a Telstra branded HTC Desire with hboot version 0.93 ... and it's already rooted ... and I use cyanogenmod ROM
but everytime I turn on the internet connection data ... my Desire always got reboot
I don't know if my desire was rooted correctly using a goldcard or not
because the one who rooted my desire is my friend, and I don't have any goldcard
and right now, I'm trying to flash an Telstra's RUU ROM and downgrade it to stock eclair ROM
but I didn't find any flashable RUU ROM ... the only one that I can find is an .exe file
and I can't flash the RUU ROM
so what should I do ? I don't know what to do to fix my problem
should I S-OFF my desire and then flash the RUU ROM or what
Try using a different modified kernel that is compatible with your rom/try a different rom with a different kernel. This could result in making it more stable and avoid random reboots.
You dont need s-off, this is only required for full root access to the phone (i.e. for developer use), you are fine with software root.
Have you checked shipped-roms for a compatible ruu for your device?
If you rooted using a Gold Card and not unrEVOked, then your Gold Card is working.
If you still feel the need to re-create the Gold Card, use the tool in my sig below.
Sent from my HTC Desire using eMIUI
it's the same ... I've tried to flash another kernel, ROM and also radio and RIL
and it still got a random reboot when connecting to internet
and there are no error in the logcat ... I attached the logfile
is there any other solution ?
I want to reroot my desire with a goldcard
so the first time that I should do is unroot and install RUU ROM
then create a goldcard
can I create a goldcard without using a stock ROM ?
I have searched enough and only method comes up to check hboot is apparently holding down volume down button and switching HDH on.
I've tried it on my orange branded desire HD but it just shown a flashy wall paper and then orange logo appears.
My software version is 1.40.61.2 and all I want to do it get rid of orange crap from it and use a generic htc software.
Could someone please help me in simple words?
How to check HBoot and what should I do to install generic software?
Thanks a lot in advance.

The reason why you didn't get to bootloader menu was because fastboot was enabled. Next time, take out your battery, replace it, then try and go into bootloader. It should work.
To flash a generic HTC ROM you will need to get root, Radio S-OFF and of course the actual Generic HTC ROM file.
Follow the instructions from this thread to Root + Radio S-OFF your device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
Once complete, and you have S-OFF enabled in bootloader you can proceed to flash the generic HTC ROM. The link below contains the HTC WWE 1.32.405.6 RUU:
http://www.xdafil.es/DesireHD/RUU/R....140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed.exe
Once you flash the above HTC RUU, you will lose root but you will still have Radio S-OFF which means you can still flash any ROM you like.
You can also flash a custom ROM instead of the generic HTC RUU after you have Radio S-OFF

Got it sorted with S-OFF thingie.......thanks for helping me.
Just a few more questions as you seem like quite knowledgeable.
1) I am downloading generic file, would that complete wipe my phone and settings?
2) Would I be able to upgrade OTA if a future release comes from HTC?
3) Loosing root means I wont be able to use those applications which require root access....even with VISIONary?
4) How do I flash the rom? Do I need a goldcard for that? As mine is a branded orange handset.
Thanks a lot.

1) Yes, it is a generic HTC unbranded ROM. It will wipe your settings, as will any ROM you flash.
2) I think so, as long as you stick with the official generic HTC roms. If not, you can download the OTA update from here and apply it manually via ClockworkMod Recovery, which is safer as it will stop it overwriting the HBOOT and Custom Recovery (which is what the last update did)
3) Losing root access means you can't use applications that require root access. However, Visonary is used to get root from being in a state of no-root. Once you run Visonary, it will do its exploit and make the system root for you. This doesn't work on 1.72/1.75 ROMs, however the ROM link I have given you is a rootable ROM.
4) With S-OFF, you do not need a Goldcard. For the Official ROMs (like the link I gave you) follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841890
For custom ROMs, you will need to install ClockworkMod recovery and from there flash the ROMs. To get ClockworkMod recovery, first make sure your current ROM is rooted, then download 'ROM Manager' from the Android Market, then run the application and tap 'Flash ClockworkMod recovery'. To boot into clockworkmod recovery, take out the battery, replace it, go into bootloader, then choose 'Recovery'.
Also thought you would like to know how to get back to stock Orange UK ROM for warranty reasons.
1) Do Radio S-ON and restore your CID (using the same tool you used to get Radio S-OFF)
2) Download this Orange UK 1.40.61.2 ROM: http://www.xdafil.es/DesireHD/RUU/R....140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_157531_signed.exe
3) Install that ROM using the method described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841890

Hey, no problem
If you have Radio S-OFF, it will stay Radio S-OFF unless you manually turn it to Radio S-ON using the program.
Flashing anything will not affect it. So you are good to flash the HTC ROM
Just to let other guys know.....I have followed the steps as prank1 has suggested and now I have a stock HTC rom without any of the orange crap on it. All orange logos, icons and softwares have disappeared.
I have unlocked phone with S-OFF and I am sure now I can flash with custom roms as well which would be my next try.
Thanks once again.
HELP! i think i've bricked my phone. lemme first tell you guys what i've gone and done.
have a orange branded desire hd which i temp rooted with visionary. then i used titanium backup to force stop the preloaded apps which were slowing up my phone. i think i made a mistake and might have first deleted one of the pre installed apps...
neways.. got a notification for a sytem update and accidently installed it...
when the phone rebooted and was installed the update it stopped and now all i have is an image of the phone on the screen with a red triangle. it's been 10 minutes and it's not doing nething.
what have i done... and how do i undo it
PLEASE HELP
I did exactly the same thing and now it wont update, I reported it to HTC but theyve advised me that its 'with the developer' which to be honest suggests that I will never get a reply beyond the ticket number they gave me. Cant believe moving bloody Uno of my phone would cause such a hassle
Hi guys! I need your help to tell me if I understand correctly..
I would really appreciate..
I got Desire hd from orange and its branded. I would like to have stock htc phone.
Here`s some info about my phone:
Model version
HTC Desire HD A9191

Kernel version:
2.6.32.21-g46445e7

What are correct steps I need to follow?
1. Follow the instructions from this thread to Root + Radio S-OFF your device:

3. Install ClockworkMod Recovery 3.2.0.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003723
This will give me debranded htc phone.
What should I do after that to get root and install gingerbread rom on it?
