Backlighting - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Android Development

This might be a silly question, but i was playing around with froyo and i do realize that you have to run it off the sd card, and i have the backlighting down, but i was wondering if there is a rom out there that i can just turn off the back lighting because even tho the screen goes black well we all know that the screen is still lit up.Anyway thanks a ton for all the hard work and advice for everything, peace Ping33tx.

black screen phone still works - Help?

Ok..i searched the forums and didnt see the problem i have ran into so any help is appreciated.
I get a black screen but the phone starts up and runs fine..i can fiddle with it and make calls etc..the screen is responsive to touches..just black entirely. But...on occasion it will decide to show the start up Touch Pro screen and stay there..and on occasion i can get the hspl screen to show up..but its very infrequently and seems random.
I have reinsalled the hardspl..i have reinstalled the ROM several times..i have task29ed it..still its working but the screen is black.
Im assuming there is nothing wrong with the screen as it does work fine on occasion (just never gets past the opening screen)..so any suggestions?? Please help.
Let's try this
Did you try to go back to the original ROM, or a factory rest - check the manual for that.
Also, try the shortcut in the manual to get to the boot screen.
Good luck...
Black Screen
It is your light sensor, either it is malfunctioning or it has driver corruption problems, probably the light sensor. I posted a fix a couple of days ago that cured my tilt 2 of essentially same problem. You must remove all reference to polling light sensor, ie, backlight automatic, keyboard backlight and phone backlight off on calls. Review my earlier post for details

glad to be able to offer a solution that is proven to work in some similar cases. Hope it fixes his problem.

Compass calibration

Under settings, Locations & privacy - 'Rotate the phone back and forth in all three axes until the compass image turns green.'
IT. NEVER. EVER. ***** TURNS. GREEN.
HOW LONG AM I SUPPOSED TO BE SAT HERE ****** ****** ROTATING MY PHONE?
I've tried the figure eight technique as well, doesn't make a squat bit of difference.
MOD EDIT: That kind of language isn't tolerated on xda...I'll be leniant with you this time since I've just started modding this forum and I'm a good mood
Same here. It took me like five times until it turned green. Hold it straight up and down, and press calibrate, and slowly flip it around from top to bottom, and then rotate it side to side. You don't actually have to flip it all the way around in a circle. Just about 3/4 the way back and forth. If you go too fast it will turn red. The trick is to go slow and smooth (like when you are with your girl!)

Go on, admit it, you didn't press the button to start the calibration process and were just looking at the demo animation.
It's ok, I did exactly the same thing
Had the same that happen and felt pretty stupid sitting that flipping and rotating a phone for...*ahem*...to long. It seems that once it turns red, there is no going back. Exit, restart, and try again more slowly.
My experience with it is that if it doesn't turn green in the 1st 10 seconds...it ain't gonna.

Muuuuuuaaaahhhhaa... same here, the first time it somehow worked, but the second time I turned and turned and turned... I really became angry, suddenly I saw the button :/
Crazy idea to show an animation and add an button

Ahhh.. The dumb thing says to turn it 'slowly' so I figured I had to be patient with the damn thing. Turns out that what's needed is to flick it around like a spastic for a second or two. Couldn't they SAY SO then instead of lying? <-edit..
And to the rest, while the animation confused me at first I had actually gotten past that stage when I made this thread.
edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sP3d00Hr14o this worked a couple of times earlier today - however, refuses to work now. nothing. i give up on this - I am now etching 'compass' away from the feature list of the phone. It might as well say 'utterly pointless, useless magnet'.

Guilty as charged. I felt very stupid
Yep I was dope as well took me about 10 minutes before I figured it out.
Still pissing me off. I'm just glad the phone is rugged and waterproof.. Not gonna say anything more...
Well, I never had the green icon but my compass is really, really accurate.
Yesterday it thought north was west, today north was south.
I've given up too, always turns red!
Whether i go slow, or fast, i am still unable to get this to show up in green... maybe someone could post movie with working calibration?
Mine went first red and when I just continued it turned to green. So no need to restart when the sign goes red.
Mine has never turned green, but its still pretty accurate.
i just calibrated the compass of my defy and it works now. red means one axis done, two to go. yellow the second axis and when all is done, it turms green. It took ca 45 seconds.

[Q] HTC Desire button bug

Hi all,
I just received my desire back from repair, cause it constant reboot. And now i have it back and ive got a 'button bug'. The buttons will respond when the lights are off and yes it will hapen too when the charger is out. This is verry annoying and i'd like to know wether this is a ROM bug (tmobile rom) or a hardware bug.
The lights are turning off randomly in a position, well you probably dont understand my problem but i made a video for you so you can see your self and understand!
Please I dont want to return it to the repair service again!!
Link to the video i made:

Greetings,
Nick
Looks like they turn on based on light conditions. Have you tried doing the same in a completely dark room (they shouldn't turn off or maybe after 10 sec of inactivity) and in very bright conditions (they should turn on). Don't think it's hardware related, no idea if it's Sense or T-mobiel but there are ways to turn the lights off.
well, im did completely locked my room to darkness ghehe and looks like they stay on. i will try more to see
W00t looks like youre right, when i close my curtain it will go and light. when i do it open, the lights are going to turn off.. but i never had this before?
Maybe cause i got a new motherboard because i just receveided it back from repair?
Lol i just tried it in the bathroom with the light on and off and youre right ghost
but is there a way to turn this off?
Well i already scared m because i thought it was a hardware bug lol.
but now i know it isnt
Unrooted maybe by disabling auto brightens.
Rooted, see if this works or rom's like cyanogenmod or oxygen can do it in settings. Maybe some Sense rom's aswell.
i already disabled auto brightness
but nvm now.
i thought my desire was broken again so i was scared but now it doesnt bother me anymore
Thanks again!

You can go to menu/settings/advanced(CM) settings/display/ then check screen on animations. Not sure which of his roms you are talking about but if it's one of his AOSP roms this will help.

Hi thanks- ya there is no 'advanced settings' and the setting on animations is 'all animations' instead of no or some. I am just going to partition another card and get 'the express' rom which seems like the rom to have...

The Express is an awesome rom, you wont be disappointed.
Ya I tried to flash it last nite but my desktop is not recognizing any devices through usb which explains why I get an error that my printer is not connected when I try to use it... one thing after another

Thanks man- I just reread your advice on animations and I think you meant 'no' animations instead of 'on'. I just set it to no animations and the home screen seems to come back now out of the time out screen. I have to hit the power button a few times, the lit menu buttons go out and when they come back on I've got a screen.
Do you know if I can install a blank sd card into the phone?- to partition to install 'the express' once I can flash it from my computer which is the only way I know how.
Thanks again,
Tj

No need for a new card unless your upgrading. Either way, if it is your current or a new sd, BACK IT UP TO THE PC first. And yes I saw that your pc is not recognizing the device, sounds like you will need to install the proper drivers (to your pc) for it to work. I would suggest going to this guide -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386911 I believe HipKat has all the steps for what your wanting to do, laid out much better than I can chicken peck on this keyboard, lol.
Good luck!

Hey Jamie- I found since someone shut the pc down improperly that's what caused Windows to now recognize things- I actually just unplugged it and going to give it a few before plugging it back in. I should be good to go. The only other problem I am having since selecting no animTions is the display brightness is at the lowest setting. Trying to adjust/ autoi does nothing. Any advice on that one?- heading out for a late breakfast and going to flash the express when I get back but this phone is hard to.see till then for incoming calls- thanks god I have a tablet. Figuring how to.root that thing will be interesting.

Under settings/display de-select auto brightness. Should be a toggle in your power menu as well.

Hey thanks again Jamie- I had a new 8 gig micro sd card so I took my original out and put that in and partitioned as one tutorial had it laid out using Amon RA Recovery? The partitioning went well and I got the Express ROM on and installed nice except for a small issue the timeout or lock screen won't come out of lock screen unless I remove the the battery. I did what you told me to do on the Sinister ROM and switched the animations off and was able to come out of the idle or lock screen after about a dozen presses of the power button. Apparently it wasn't the Rom. Half the time I can't answer a call. I read a post on this site a last week on this same issue someone else had. The solution was some type of "pack" supposedly needed to be installed to the ext partition or something like that. I have tried to find that post ever since and cannot since. When I gohit 'search this forum' and the search field appears, the keyboard appears then disappears. Do youyou know anyone I maybe able to get into contact with that would be able to help me resolve this? So what type of devices do you have. I've also got the Samsung Galaxy 4G LTE 10.1 that I tether to which is nice.
I have been having a bit of a time finding solutions to certain things on here...

If you have your brightness set to the lowest, i've noticed that is what screws up unlocking for me. set your brightness higher as soon as you turn your phone on and see if that helps

led light is on when screen on when charging cm10.2

My busybox install got corrupted and a lot of things got screwed up. So I did a wipe and reflashed cm10.2. Something that got screwy was the led light when charging would stay on even when the screen was on. But after i reflashed it still does it. Of course this is no big deal, I can just turn off the battery led in cm, but I just wanted to know if anyone knew what the issue was. Thank you very much for the help.

Really? Wow I must be going crazy or I never used my phone while it's been plugged in with cm10.2. Is there a way to change it so that the charging led only comes on when the screen is off?
Why would it even work this way? You can clearly see it's charging when the screen is on in the status bar. Also, when you go and change the battery charging led color and you want to test it, it even asks you to turn the screen off. Are you sure?
bump for double check

I'm sure.
There is a setting to disable to charging light entirely. But not for disabling it only when the screen is on.
You'll just have to live with it. If it bothers you that much, make it a darker color that is less obnoxious to your eyes that is easy to see in a dark room with the screen off but not as 'in your face' when the screen is on.
