I've got some dust under my desires screen i know this is a problem on some htc phones but thought htc had sorted it on the desire.
Has anyone else got the issue and if so is it covered on warranty? How long do htc take to repair as i go away in 2 weeks and need my phone for sat nav

Got the same issue and would be interested if someone knew a way to clean it up...
I had this and HTC did repair it under warranty. The took about 10 days from collection to delivery but it is a bit hit and miss.
i read since the beginning that some have this problem.
Thank god, i don't have it. And i don't use a case and have it most of the time in my dusty pockets. So, it seems that some phones just work right, no dust under screen, and some not. This should be fixed by the warranty, don't try to fix it yourself.
I had this 3 times with other phones (non HTC), and it always looked like it's not between the cover and the display, it looked like it's in the display. I got it fixed on one, they replaced the whole display ...
defo can be hit and miss. some people got the phone back with more dust in it since the repair guys tried to clean it in a non-clean room.
if its not very bad I would leave it. I have small bit of dust bit only visible in direct sunlight. thought about sending it back. they would not give me a new phone but said they would try and repair it. it would take 3 weeks. I decided to live with it.

I have a small particle of dust under my screen which is only visible when the phone is off or in standby mode.
It is probably worth bearing in mind that I have had three Desires and all suffered from this problem.
It's on visible if you really look for it, but once you know it is there it does become annoying.
You can send it away to be cleaned, but as others have mentioned, some have reported their phone being returned with even more dust. This is why I have refrained from sending mine away to be cleaned.
I think the dust gets under the screen during the manufacturing process as all three handsets I have had have suffered from dust under the screen upon removal from the box and none of them got any extra dust under the screen as time went on.

I notice a piece of lint under the glass on my desire. Not highly noticable, but still... I suppose its kind of impossible to make a screen thatsize and have it sealed with zero foreign objects undreneath? I read that this was a common problem with the nexus one. not sure if its common on Desire, or if the dust was there when I bought it, or got in in the last 3 days.
I wouldn't consider replacing it or anything, not over that. Maybe over a dead pixel, buit not some lint. anyone else notice anything under their glass?
yup got same, a tiny piece above the menu key, about 2 mil from the bottom edge of the screen. not enough for me to send it back though.

yeah I read quite a few threads on the matter. Theres a good chance you'd get the same in a replacement model so not worth it if its minor. Loving the phone though. some piece of kit
I didn't notice anything under the glass screen so far. I got mine on March 27th.

Well that's not true. I have had an HD2 for several months now and as we know it has an even bigger screen than the desire.
My point is that I have absolutely NO dust particles under my glass. I have looked and looked, under sunlight etc. NO dust. Why? Cus on the HD2, the LCD is glued to the glass/digitizer wich makes it impossible for dust to get in. On the Desire, I believe this is not the case wich means dust will eventually build up under there with time.

Alas you are right. I have more dust under my screen than I did when I got the phone 2 months ago. So... I guess it's not airtight. well, not that I expected it would be. maybe they could not glue the amoled screen to the digitiser/glass in the amoled screens. who knows.
solution
ive posted a reply about this on the phone restarting thread. essentially htc said that BOTH the dust and phone restarting are their problem so ive had the phone replaced within a week
This is a massive problem with the Topaz. Dust gets in by the top of the volume key. Thankfully it's only noticeable with the phone switched off, so it's not serious issue, just very prevalent.
HTC need to improve their sealing process between digitisers and their screens.
I had dust under the screen after 1 week on the left hand side. Pretty bad design fault from HTC if you ask me. On my old HTC Magic dust came in from the speaker grille and then fell down from the top of the screen.
Back on the desire though I got a case and screen protector from amazon and no more dust has appeared since then.

They offered to take it in for repair (as opposed to replacement). Ah well. I'll hold onto it as its minor. I heard of some guy on here sending it off for repair only to get it back with more dust in it than originally.
I think the best thing is to examine the unit on the first day of purchase with a fine tooth comb. If anything is wrong then send it back to clove or hantec or whoever for a direct swap replacement. Next time... When Desires future heir is born I will do that.
I noticed that over the last year or two, I have noticed there seems to be a small hole or something at the bottom of the glass where dust is appearing. Brother has the same phone as me and he doensn't have it, and it's coming from between the back button and the search button. Has anyone noticed this on their Desire? Is it hard to clean? it's starting to become annoying, I do love the clean looks of the screen.
Yup, I've got dust coming in from the bottom right corner of the screen.
Yeah, thats what i'm getting. Is it particularily difficult to remove it and clean it? I remember doing this to an old Nokia ages ago, but it never sealed the same and kept getting dust in it...
Don't have any dust in / on / under my Desire.
Had the same problem about a year ago. I send it to the support and got a new one, no problem until now.

IIRC, you'd need to dismantle the entire device to get to the screen, so tbh I wouldn't risk it. Perhaps you could contact HTC and ask them whether it's covered under warranty.

My device is way out of warranty now, and plus it's too good to do without . Guess i'm going to have to live with it until I HAVE to take it apart.

You sure? HTC warranty is 2 years you know.. at least in Europe
Sent it off for repair because it had screen fitment problems out of the box (screen was loose but didn't ripple, no yellow spots), the casing was perfect and not damaged. When I got the device back from repair, screen was replaced and tightened, but it now ripples on normal touch, has 1 dead pixel, light bleed around the bezel (can be seen in the video, top part of the screen, also around capacitive touch buttons), yellow spot in lower right corner when the phone gets warm AND the casing was damaged in several places.
I'm sending this video to HTC and will demand either my money back or a new device, it is unlocked, but this cannot be caused by software, so they should accept the warranty. Video:
Did they tell you which repair center they sent it to?

In my opinion this is the repair shop faults.
Either way this is unacceptable. Very sloppy work.
I am very curious how HTC will resolve this.
My last resort is to send my HOX or any other future devices back to their so called repair or service centers. Your major problems will be resolved but additional cosmetic problems will surface such as this gentleman's screen. My first and only experience is purchasing an EVO 3D gsm version from a local yahoo auctions seller in HK. I didnt want to nitpick but the screen had leaks of light when viewing in datkness and it wasnt aligned properly. So i thought what the heck..send it in for repair or servicing...got it back in a week with less light bleed but some of my capacitive lights werent lighting up completely. As if they never checked after other problems were resolved. I ended up selling it for a good 150 dollar loss since i am extremely picky with these screens. Just last week i got the HOX and the darn thing seems to be perfect from the factory but guess what..that small yellow spot pops up when the phone heys to 36 or 37 degrees... Much more annoying than a single dead pixel. I am having an EXCHANGE for another unit but i doubt they will be perfect. For some people stating they have no problems at all...they arent looking hard enough. There is always something imperfect with all the htc phones i have bought. Since the hd2. But whatever...their outter appearance are simply the best looking and i just couldnt pass it up.

@Tw1tchy I just know it was serviced by HTC Germany.
I think I'll get this one replaced, and when I get the replacement, I will just going to sell it and be done with this One X story, too much risk and I don't want to send my phone 1000 km from Croatia to Germany every time I find a problem.

or i'm just waiting JB to send it to repair again
Seriosly guys...what do you think they do with those opened ones? I guess they just sell it to those other not as picky as us customers eh? since they arent factory sealed like the Samsungs. I personally would never accept one that was opened up and fiddled around with. Just bad!

So, long story short.
I received my device which had screen flex and PUSHED the sevice senter to replace the LCD.
Got back the device today. The LCD Module (LCM) has been changed. But, they made some pinch on side of polycarbonate body, while replacing the LCD.
Also, the screen is more flexible in both left and right edges with loosely fixed screen on left center. Hope it becomes hard after some use and heat.
Just for information, i have replaced 3 devices and sent the fourth one to service center three times till now.
I have given up now & keeping the device. After owning HTC from HTC Hermes times, this is the first device i have seen this much quality control issues.
Earlier, I was confident enough to order HD2 and EVO3D from UK (Iam living in Dubai) when they release those.
Now, i lost that confidence with HTC. I still didn't unlock the device for the same reason. My first time with any HTC device without modding the ROM. HTC should be proud of themselves
I have light bleeding on my one x as well. Its quite annoying but you have to get used to it. I'm not risking sending my one away after I have already been without it for a month

Hi guys, MY HOX has recently been playing up in the centre of the screen it has no touch sensitivity, anything i try and press around that region does not work. However i installed a zagg last night and used the spray that came with it. Im wondering if that has effect my phone? I tryed to look for the water indicator in the sim slot to see if it got water inside their how ever i can not find it. im very worried because i used the zagg solution that when i try to take the phone back they will say it has been water damaged and will not replace/fix the issue.Any help would be great thanks.
You waited 24h after applying it didn't you?
You should wait it out.
There is no way you could've triggered the water indicators by only spraying on the screen.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Thanks for the snappy reply i took the protector off shortly when i noticed the sensitivity issue.
So you still have touch problems without the protector?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
yea, but i did not have this problem before the protector.
No worries, normal usage of the solution shouldn't have done any damage.
To be on the safe side, put it to a bag of rice for 24h, that should get rid of moisture if there's any.
Then send it for repair and hope for best.
Best of luck for you.

Looks like you have a defective screen. Dont worry about it. Mine started being unresponsive in the middle of the screen 2 weeks ago, so i called HTC and they booked UPS to pickup my phone on Monday morning and i got it back on thursday morning with a new screen and jelly bean installed(I had Coredroid ICS 5.1 installed). I also have two friends with One X's that had the same problem two months ago. Both screen replacement
Try wiping your phone. I had problems with my screen as well recently. Didn't know why, and seemed to come out if nowhere. I factory reset it and it was good after that.
Maybe you have a hardware issue, but this is at least one quick thing you can try before giving your phone to HTC.
Goodluck

its not the zagg
I have the zagg on my hox since 4-5 months... May be your device is having faulty screen.. get it replaced.
Never had problem like that.
Good day dear xda-developers community,
I have a very strange problem, searching the net did not bring any results so I thought I'd ask the guys here, perhaps somebody has had a similar problem as well.
A couple of months ago my video card broke, I could start up my phone but had a lot of artefacts so I brought it to the store I bought it at and they sent it out for repairs under warranty conditions. I got the phone back and I had no artefacts anymore so I was more than happy.
A couple of days after that I noticed a scratch on the screen, a small one but still quiet noticeable. The phone was never dropped and always carried in the pocket, so I thought to my self "ohh well, I guess this could happen".
Now though, a couple of weeks using the phone I have a strange feeling that the screen that was put on my phone after replacement isn't Gorilla Glass at all, it feels weird when you touch it, not as smooth and there is A LOT of grease that stays on the phone, never really noticed any in a whole year using the phone before, plus the proximity sensor doesn't always work, when I bring the phone to my ear I have to do it a couple of times before it goes out.
Now here's what I am wondering, is there any way to check whether the screen is Gorilla Glass or not, and that the company hasn't just put some cheap replacement glass on my phone to save up money?
Anybody got any idea what's up?
well the easiest thing to do it putting two HOX side by side and compare the two screens i guess
Go back to the shop and demand a detailed repair overview. Your entitled to one since its your phone !
Or let them take it in for another repair/research. Just dont take no for an answer.

I guess we were both duped and had some clone screen put into our phone instead of the original HOX screen, which really sucks, cause I don't even know how to prove that, also I noticed that I have 2 yellow spots on the left-top side of the screen, they are very well visible on the white background and they get even Yellower as the phone gets hotter.

Wauw thats what I had when I just got mine brand new..its a known issue with the One X
It has to do something with the glue..better get it replaced and ask for the old screen so you can check if its a clone.
Hope it will work out well for you bro, I took my loss as they will not give me a refund..

They won't give you a refund, but did you try getting it fixed? is it covered by the warranty? The problem is that I bought it in the netherlands and I was just there a couple of weeks ago, had the phone done and went back to Belarus, where we don't the HTC service centres. I will have to wait till I go to the netherlands again to give the phone back into repairs.
