Hi guys,
Please tell me where can i find igo with 480x800 support. I find 240x320 but it's small at this big screen thx
there is no igo for android which you can buy with a High Resolution, i also hope that there will come something, because i loved it on winmob, currently i use Navigon which runs very smooth and is good.
i like Copilot 8 better
having seen CoPilot on a friends device I'm thinking of converting to it, I'm a big iGo fan but CoPilot.......well its cool
Igo has maps update more often
but i like the Display of CoPilot better is more clean and natural
I used to be devoted to TomTom, but not anymore, after finding CoPilot
CoPilot has more maps updates than TomTom, but Igo beats them all in regards to frecuency of map updates.
I had Igo on my hd2, wasnt too keen on it. Didnt have my address listed in the maps. the house has been here since the 1950s. only a small gripe but it mattered to me. havent decided what to get for my galaxy yet.
Use Motonav. Looks pretty cool but slow menus. But has 80 % of the futures igo has. And uses the same maps as IGO.
Copilot has way to old maps.
Try out NDrive, it has the cleanest UI and is much faster than both Copilot and Mobile Maps.
Hey guys,
I have a problem with file data.gro on my Samsung Galaxy S. I have found the file that contains hi resolution for iGO. I run root explorer and want to copy data.gro to iGO folder.
I can delete the old one, but I can't copy/move the new one. Let us say I can, but the root explorer doesn't copy the file without any warning notification. I have root rights and folder data/data/com.navgo.igo.javaclient is in r/w mode.
any idea?
Thanks
So - which is the definitive GPS app for the i9000 ?
You mentioned like 4 or 5 apps
Thanks guys !
PS : I'm from Europe...

No need if you find motonav for NexusOne that has 800x480
SDCARD folder "Motonav" should be copied/installed in INTERNAL flash.
Maps are pretty small compared with TomTom or nDrive.

Google Maps Navigation. Search for Brut Mode, enables Navigation worldwide and you can also save maps in cache.
I used iGO 8 for windows mobile in my HTC Diamond. It was by far the best navigator I have used and I think I have tried them all.
iGO My Way for android which is only available for 480x320 is exactly the same product as Motonav. Same functionality,, small graphical differences. Unfortunately not even close to iGO 8 functionality. For me Navigon is the best one right now but after using iGO 8 everything is a disappointment...

Hi
How can I get igo9 for my desire as a navigator?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I think there will be soon iGO with higher resolution, just check thi video, its Dell Streak running iGO in 800x480 resolution.

If bought right now NDrive V10 with all Western Europe Maps for 20 Euros. Maybe it´s interesting for other people. Can be bought directly in the Ndrive app. Found this info in another german forum. Downloading now 2.6GB
Sygic maps 10 works perfectly with the sgs, althought several buttons could get bigger and startup is kinda slow.

Hey all,
I've been an avid user of TomTom from V5 upwards. I currently use V7.
I only have experience with TomTom and have always stuck to it as I've had no complaints. Easy to install, easy to customise etc..etc..
I'd like to ask you to vote which you use and why.
PLEASE CAN WE JUST GIVE REASONS AS TO WHY YOU USE WHICH AND NOT START ANY ARGUEMENTS WITH ANY OTHER POST!
Keep your reasons simple and to the point.
Many thanks
Wayne
edit: If anyone has any other nav software they use, I will amend the Poll accordingly.
I have tried Tomtom 7, Navigon and iGO8.
Quickly removed both Tomtom and Navigon when I got iGO8 running. Both of them had much more noticable lag.
Im using TomTom too.... but it does have lag, does igo8 have less?

MUCH less.
I'm using tomtom, well that is to say I have it on my phone as I have in car satnav, but I use it to scroll through maps etc and find the place I'm looking for prior to getting in the car.
As such I'm not really worried about the lag issue (in fact I don't think I've even used it as satnav since I've had my HD).
I did try IGO8 but I immediately installed the tomtom skin as it's what I'm used to and I like the layout of tomtom.
i' using garmin.i think it better that tomtom.way more options, but guess they all do the same at the send.
TT, even if the last version is not working perfectly on HD 'cause it wasn't designed for it, anyway it's the best and it remain the only one
sat nav
I have the Garmin in my car but atm haven’t got on my phone but I would like to put it on. Can anyone tell me if I can use the software from my car one and if so how do you put it on. Alternatively where do you get the satnav software from and is it special one just for phones.
strange no one mentions about mapking... i'm using mapking though i prefer the background of garmin. but garmin searching can be a real headache
Like the OP, TomTom. I have used several versions over several years. Very easy to use.
There is a lot of scope for personalization and custom of map colour schemes and system menu screens etc.
The supported .ov2 POI files are common and easy to install. Voice alerts area easy to create and install for all POIs including safety cameras.
Having said the above, iGo8 for example has a more comprehensive map set and impressed me when visiting the UAE. I found the display and interface unfamiliar, but I would consider prolonged use with a TomTom skin.
TomTom here as well.
Mainly so I can use my Speed Camera Database.
How poor is that.....ONLY 25.6% (roughly a quarter) of those who voted shared a comment.
If it helps I use Route 66, so I didn't even get to vote
igo is the way to go
i have a Touch HD with both TomTom and Igo8 on, i was trying to use TomTom but found it lagged and was unreliable in getting a fix( a big prob with the HD) but when i put Igo on it worked first time and every time since, and i must admit it looks much better with the topography in 3d mode, its very nice, so i WAS a TomTom fan, but now im a Igo 8 convert.
I use SYGIC (Mc Guider) 7.6 because it´s easy to handle and it works in landscape perfekt.
Ive tried CoPilot, TomTom and iGo8, and I've stuck with iGo. It seems to update the quickest, the instructions are very clear and the display is excellent.
TomTom for me.
My wife bought me a full retail TomTom package a couple of years ago including the software + their GPS device at a total cost of GBP200 (~EUR180). When I (inevitably) upgraded my phone five months later I was unable to transfer the licence to the new machine because I'd gone up a version in WM and my TomTom software wouldn't install. All of that money we'd spent on the retail version was immediately wasted, which was very annoying.
I was forced to find and use a cracked version instead of my legal and perfectly good version simply because TomTom designed their software for one specific operating system and wouldn't do anything to help me.
I have bought lots of legal software for my PC and for my PDAs (and have donated to this site) and fully support the anti-warez policy on XDA-Dev, but out of principle now I will always use a cracked version of TomTom in revenge for TomTom's policy. TomTom will never get another penny from me.
BTW, this is a useful site for downloading free POIs for most software, thought it may be useful!

CoPilot is now listed as compatible with HD:

Tried Navigon MN 7, iGo 8 and Tomtom 7...
I'm using Navigon MN7, just because it has the nicest look (maps...) when you drive...
iGo 8 is also very nice to use, unfortunately the Tele Atlas maps are not so accurate, compared to the much better NavteQ maps used by Navigon !
And Tomtom, for me, has the World ugliest display when you drive, AND the not so accurate Tele Atlas maps ! IMHO, definitely the worst navigating software you can use... ;-(
So I have always used TT6 on all my htc devices but I wont work on my touch hd. Tried to buy TT7 from tomtom.com and they told me it's not for sale in the US. I am looking for something that has directions and live traffic update that works here in the US. Any input would be great.

Thanks for the link. Alot of those users are outside of US. It sucks to have to pay another $100 for another gps software.
I really like the Garmin software. It integrates with Google Maps so you can search for POI's within Garmin (using updated POI information from Google Maps) and it pulls them into the Garmin software. I used TT6/TT7 for years until I got this.
I don't know how is is in the US, but if you want TMC, I recommend Igo8. With this navigator you can use live traffic information with TMC. (If you want more information look for TMC in this forum).
But like I said I don't know how it is in the US (I don't know if you use TMC there)
I like that. Will look for this software.

Are you referring to Garmin Mobile XT? I was put off that since you can't transfer it to a larger memory card. You're stuck with the one it comes on which is a tad inconvenient.
I've tried TT7, IGO8 and NDrive, of these 3, IGO8 is a hands down performer. Not only does it look nice with its 3D scenery, but the refresh rate of IGO8 graphics is way way way better than TT7.
NDrive has a good refresh rate, but unfortunately it makes navigation mistakes and offers little customization, therefore I don't feel it is really ready for prime time yet.
Garmin might be good, I haven't tried it.
But IGO 8 lags so much on the Touch HD.. especially with the 3d buildings turned on...

I'd say, iGO is THE best choice for the touch HD. Integrates just perfectly with WVGA, allows portrait/landscape use modes and various sysfile modifications, delievers very nice graphical performance and great design - with carbon background it looks like a very expensive stand alone GPS device There are different skins for the app, too.
And it works very well with the TMC solution in this forum. It just works. A device like HD, equipped with the powerful GPS hardware deserves powerful software like iGO8.
My choice:
TT7: Very easy to use.
Garmin: Better maps (at least in Lithuania) but GUI is not good.
iGO: This software is usable. I like the way iGO draws pictures. GUI is also convinient.
So I use TT7 for day2day navigation and Garmin - if I travel to places I have never been. Because TT7 might not have the latest maps of that Area.
All of them are tested and works on my Touch HD. Unfortunately I tested not legal versions and can't tell if the legal ones works well.

Yes, that is the software. However, you can transfer it if you know how ... meaning "hacking" / cracking / unlocking it.
Maybe the new Version of nDrive (Release Date will bei 23rd May 09) makes a big step forward. Haven't seen any Screenshots yet but hopefully it#ll get even better than it is. Plus: It's the cheapest professional Navi-Software i know.
I use Navigon, until now it's the only one (that i have) that worked great and doesn't have a lag. Navigon works nice on the Touch HD!
Navigon doesn't even start up on my touch.. At least the official version, downloaded from the navigon website doesn't.
I use these; navigon,sygic,iGO8,tomtom7
all with latest western europe map
i like tomtom7 the most because i can hook it up to tomtomhome2 and use mapshare also iGO8 is handy with the tmc working now but i cant get it to work in portraitmode yet
My first android phone. Moving from an Iphone 3g can anyone point me to a good satnav app for android? Tomtom doesn't have an app for android...
Also is Google Navigation available for the UK now? and will it work on the handset?
Co-Pilot is probably the best option currently available - not badly priced either.
Co-pilot all the way - had it on my HTC HD2.. Was fantastic, the Android version is identical.
Someone has tried Igo MyWay ?
I was using Igo8 under winmo and I would like to know if it's approximatively the same?
Been using CoPilot on G1 since its release... Very good satnav and with the Desires processor the slight lag you can get with CoPilot should be a thing of the past...
I've always used TomTom. The only thing I've noticed about Co-Pilot is the lack of a qwerty keyboard option.
Co-pilot is not a standalone application, isn't it?

What do you mean by stand-alone application? You can buy it separately and install it on to mobile phone, just like TomTom and others.
I am currently using iGo MyWay on a PNA with WinMo CE.
I must say I think it is the best navigation software I've ever used. (I've used TomTom, and Garmin before)... but of course this is just my subjective opinion...

I would say the maps are on the phone and the app doesn't need data connection to work So yes, just like TomTom.
Sygic has a very TomTom like interface, great maps, and has an Android platform as well as WM6.5.
The very kind people at CoPilot sent me a download to allow me to switch my CoPilot 8 from WM6.5 to Android - for free. I thought what was great customer relations, so one up for CoPilot!
Sygic is also cross-platform so the version I was using on my HD2 should work on my new Desire. Supposed to be easy to reactivate as it will be used on the same MicroSD card.

Oh, thats a shame, ill try it on tuesday when I get mine
I am also torn between Co-Pilot vs Sygic ... Which one is better, though choice.
For me, price does not really matter. What I want:
- Reliability
- The fastest one to get satellite LOCK
- Updated maps quite often (not necessarily the latest one, but they did update the maps)
I think we can have Co-Pilot trial version ... but unfortunately there is no Sygic in the Market, and I am not sure if we can request trial version.
CoPilot... Now tried and tested on Desire
Just had a play with CoPilot on my Desire and it works like a dream (not as in G1 dream, as in well)... smooth, fast and found no bugs so far...

What version are you using?
Has any body used copilot from the market place on an HTC Desire?
The version I tried before on my hero was rubbish and so I was waiting for TomTom. Now although I would still rather have TomTom I need a satnav and so am happy to pay for a proper copy of copilot but thought I'd check it works on my new Desire but it doesn't. I don't want to waste money so can anybody confirm the copilot UK version on marketplace does work on the new HTC Desire (preferably T-Mobile version to be sure).
Also anybody tried SYGIC (UK version) on the HTC desire. Many Thanks.

Sygic works well, also Navigon, although the Navigon app is huuuge and not recommended if you have data on NAND
Navigon is pretty good.
Always been a big fan of trekbuddy, I know it has an android port now, it is a bit more work setting up maps and stuff, but depending on what you use it for, it's pretty good, especially offline, ( and off-road ).
Not sure I'd use it for sat nav, I prefer using it for biking/walking stuff, but it does do a lot of stuff that most gps software miss
I'm really surprised that no utility has been released that allows forced user selected cache'ing of google navigation maps so the app could be used offline- this would be a killer method!
Anyone heard of NDRIVE successfully running on KAISER? I've stumbled across some reviews which claim it is the fastest GPS app,
Also any comments on smallest app size - one that could install to NAND and 1GB SD card?
I am using NAVIGON, which is working very well.
Hi everyone,
I've used Navit for android, even if it's not complete as other software, it's opensource and for me it worked great.
Some poblems to find road names in small town, but it depends on Openstreatmap, not on navit. It's not on the market you have to download from navit web site (just type: navit android on google and you'll find it).

What navigation is the best for Desire HD?
I have IGO8 on my HD2 and i could not ask for a better navigation, i simply LOVE it! tried IGO for Android on my Desire HD, and i almost fell off my chair. WTF is that? not even close to the Windows version
So, what navi is most simular to IGO8 on Desire HD?
I use Sygic Aura
I have just downloaded Sygic Aura, and it looks very nice.
but where can i find the map version? and i dont see any speedcams on the map. is it using fresh maps?
Anyone else knows of a good navi, let me know
I'm afraid I don't know IGO8, so can't compare other apps to it. But when I got my DHD 3 months ago, I tried all the sat nav paid apps available on the market at the time. (This was back when you could try for 24 hours.) I also read all the online reviews I could find.
In the end, for me, the choice boiled down to CoPilot and Navigon MobileNavigator. I preferred Navigon - the display was cleaner and easier to read, and it seemed to calculate better routes. CoPilot had more options, but they were options I didn't really need. CoPilot was also cheaper.
However Navigon didn't work well with my BlueAnt S4 bluetooth handsfree car speakerhone. The voice came out of both the phone and the handsfree at the same time. I wrote to Navigon about it, but they said that they couldn't support all different bluetooth devices. So I went with CoPilot, and I've been reasonably happy with it.
However a few weeks later the developer of an app call CarUI fixed the Navigon bluetooth problem - if you used CarUI to start Navigon, the sound only came out of the handsfree speaker. Don't know why Navigon couldn't do the same thing (unless they have by now).
CoPilot is fine, and I only really use sat nav from time to time, so it's probably a good thing that I chose the cheaper option. But I really did like the look of Navigon, it's work checking out.
Hope that helps.

I know what you mean - the Adroid version of iGO is awful - jerky and those clunky sounds .
I've just been using HTC's Premium Navigator with downloaded maps. Although it said it would be a 30 day trial it's still going strong at twice that - looks like my licence is good until June!
For my needs, it's smooth and accurate enough.

Does that work okay for UK postcodes now? I tried it in November, but found the postcode search wasn't very good - it only had a partial list of postcodes - my own road wasn't in it.
i have:

IGO

Navigon
i thought i try all them out and i like Sygic 10 the best so far

Very interesting reading, thanks! I was relieved to see people saying similar things to my findings - Navigon comes out well for routes, and Contacts integration (I forgot to mention that above), but the interface could be improved (although I liked that it was clean and uncluttered). I really would have stuck with it if it wasn't for the BlueAnt handsfree problem.
CoPilot's interface is cluttered and it's routes aren't as good. I think they may have added Contacts integration now, I'll check next time I'm using it.
I don't think iGO was available when I was testing. I did try Sygic, but didn't get on well with it, I don't remember the details now. Of course testing for 24 hours isn't very easy, I think I only tested each one on the drive to work and back.
I only use sat nav occasionally, so CoPilot is good enough for me for now, but if Navigon ever fix the bluetooth issue I had with my handsfree, or if I had to rely on it on a daily basis, I'd possibly switch back.
I found TomTom on my iPhone was pretty good - better than my old Garmin satnav. It's a shame TomTom don't make an android app.
For the moment i'm using iGO and Navigon on my Desire HD
Navigon Mobile Navigator v3.5.3
But is Q1.2010 the newest maps for navigon? its seems outdated as it not even showing a roundabout and a road that was build over a year ago where i live. my iGO maps, which are 2010.09 is showing this. i have seen Q4.2010 maps for navigon an another forum, but for MN V7.
why is 3.5.3 stuck with outdated maps?
EDIT: Navigon freshmap says Q3, but but my phone says Q1. it still misses that roundabout and that road.
Navigation
Hi, i'm using Navigon 3.5, gives you traffic and alternative routes. Zip code and Poi's(also grapic) navigation.
As a former Tomtom user i'm quite happy.
Cheers,
Jim
CO-Pilot is working fine for me so far. Been around most of europe, never failed on me once. A good buy even though a little expensive.
Getting my DHD soon, but for now I have Co-Pilot on my Streak.
I have always had TomTom on my many Windows Mobile devices, and I loved it. On the move to Android however I had to leave TomTom behind for Co-Pilot which isn't at all as good unfortunately, but it does the job well.
The maps and program for Co-Pilot is widely available for free if you know where to look.

lets start with the bad things...
- no offline navigation
- unlimited dataplan useful
- no data connection with active phonecalls
- problems (of course) with lost data connection
- not very accurate when you got big crossings/streets with several lanes to take. Other software offer you some kind of assistance what lane to take
good things...
+ free! (except for data costs)
+ nice extras like sat pics
+ very good working with all google search results (POI always up to date/web)
+ traffic information always very accurate (at least in my area Frankfurt/Germany)
why do i use google?
- i got unlimited dataplan
- maps with actual versions are saved to some maps puffer. usually phone calls are not a problem
- coz its free and no matter what I search, I find it on google
My last phone was HTC HD2 with Tomtom it was just perfect!!
But Know i have the Desire Hd the things i need to know!! and i think i what to use the Copilot but is it also for Offline Use ??
And if i download it from internet do i have to look for a some kind of version!!
Same as by the HD2 ??
Ps. why does nobody have screenshort or a tut.movie that would be nice!!
