Best GPS navigation software on Trinity?

Hi, All,
Can we share some experiences on the GPS navigation software used on our Trinity? I currently is using TomTom 6 originally came with the phone, but I really don't like it's graphical interface, nor the accuracies of the direction instructions. Sometimes it will tell me to turn right, then make a U-turn down the road in order to do a simple left turn. I the intersection where I'm supposed to make a left turn does allow left turn traffic. Even I updated the map, it is still giving me ambiguous directions.
What's your experience with the GPS navigation software you are using? Does anybody have the guts to claim one is superior to the others and why?

Navigon MobileNavigator 6 is one of the best, and has a very beautiful and easy to operate interface. You must have 20mb of ram free when you launch it.

I have Nav N Go iGO My way 8. I complete change this GPS software over my TomTom. It is very fast software, easy install, intuitive control, skins, 3D landmarks, 3D city maps. I seee flyover very good first time. I have all europ maps in the 2 GB card. Maps have current date feb. 2008.

Was running iGo 2006 Plus as it had better resolution maps and was smoother than TomTom 6.02.
iGo 8 is even better, but the Trinity doesn't have the grunt to navigate and do text-to-speech directions at the same time.

I thought Nav N Go 8 hadn't been released yet. It certainly doesn't look to have been on their website.

Hi,
was there not a problem with MN6.2 when driving in a tunnel.
I always had the problem that inside the tunnel MN6 said i've been arrived when the gps signal was lost.
Do you have a solution for that?
My favourite is also iGO8! Only disadvantage is that iGO has Teleatlas maps and no Navteq. But this is dipending on the region you live and only some streets are not actual. So it is not a big problem. With Tomtom in the past you have had both possibilities.

True... this does not happen with an external receiver, only with the gps receiver from the trinity itself. After a tunnel I just choose "Last destinations" and you're quickly on track again. That's about the only problem I have with this software, the routes are very good and the interface is very clean.

I am using Garmin Mobile XT on my WM6 Trinity.
The maps are City Navigator Europe 2008 NT (Maps dated oct 2007).
The interface is a little awkward, and the 3d view a little sluggish, also the spoken directions are a little too late for my taste. On the other hand I drive fast ;-)
The maps are very good (navteq), you can puzzle your own Europe map and load it on the MiniSD Card.
All in all its not bad, with better maps than Tomtom6

How do you get it to work? Do you change the sys.txt?
I get nothing but "out of memory" and "fatal error" once the interface has loaded.

Your location will determine the soft
Use the one with the latest maps
I've try ViaMichelin ( Horrible ), Route66 (average ), Garmin XT ( don't like the view ), TT6 ( Efficient most of time, lot of pois, poor view ), iGO 2006+ ( nice ) and now iGO8 ( Very good )

Got it partially working now, the interface is really fast...but oh so complicated. The difference with Navigon is day & night, Navigon worked together with Fraunhofer Institute to make the UI user-friendly and it shows.

Sounds like a lot people prefer iGo8, I'd like to give it a try. I travel a lot in North America including Canada. Does anyone have all iGo8 North America maps in one zip file? Thx.

When I start iGO 8 with 25mb free ram, it frequently fails to calculate a route of 130km. It uses a lot of memory... I'll give up now

I've always used, and never found better GPS software than TT6, untill now! Igo8 is fantastic, a memory hog but works smoothly. Only (Big) problem is I cannot pick up call whilst igo is running. I changed the page mem to 2mb, but either the call is lost or igo crashes.
Any suggestions??

In Australia, I use CoPilot 7, that came with my P3600i.
Doesn't use much memory, and looks great and runs pretty snappy.
In my opinion, TomTom looks horrible - I don't know why it's become so popular.
iGo is alright, but the interface is too cluttered and as some people have said, it is definitely a memory hog.

Well, I've read that iGo and Tom Tom are the best, but here I wanna see which one do people use... Even if it's not on of those two...

I've tried both and use tomtom as it is better at route planning.
Igo looks nicer though.

i'll gonna install IGO to see how its works.
Sygic looks better then TOMTOM, but TOMTOM is more reliable on the arrival time. (excuse me for my poor English)

3. What are you going to run it on? Touch HD?

Here is my experiance with both...
1. iGO is skinnable, and allows many changes by the user. If you are not into it, than TomTom is more likely to be the one for you. Simple, and to the point.
2. If you tarvel to exotic locations you will soon find out TomTom does not cover the globe as good as iGO. If you travel in urban areas in EU or USA, it makes no difference what you choose.
3. iGO is a memory hog. Even with 100MB free RAm you may ancounter 'out of memory' situations with iGO. TomTom is lean on memory.
4. TTS may not work on touch HD if you try the Leo Manila 2.5 as they collide somehow. Not sure why, but I had to disable T3FD on some roms in order to make TTS work.
So, as you see, it depends what are the needs. Personally I like iGO better because it can become a real 3D navigation tool, with terrain , buildings, etc.. and it is beautiful. I did not find any major difference navigating with TomTom and iGO as far as navigation results, as both get to run the same maps from the same houses.. So I vote iGO because I like it, not because it is better. Answer yourself the questions, and you will get an idea. Both are good options, and not the only ones you can have..

i`m 50/50 on this subject because i can use 1000`s of custom generated poi`s in tomtom that i use for work & igo seems to have a limit unless i put them into seperate catagoreies which is time consuming.
Igo coupled with hypergps (TMC) works well for me but have not manged to work out how to get this working on tomtom, (might not be possible.
so if i had to choose it would be tomtom as it`s faster & not as hungry on system stuff.

I can recommend copilot 8, this is the market leader for smartphone navigation anyway and so far has chosen better routes than tomtom 7 used to for me and has a better display as well as being much cheaper as the latest version is a third the price of the previous version or tomtom. Works fine on L26 windows 6.5 rom with manilla 2.5 on the HD too.

HTC will be preinstalling copilot on the new HTC Leo (HD2)..

Hi,same thing , since i use copilot v8 , tomtom and others are long forgotten ...

I use NDrive, simple, very fast, flexible.

My 4 experiences:
Tomtom:
+: It's the best for routing. Good POIs. I used it in 4 countries in Europe without ANY problem.
-: It's outdated and very simple.
IGO
+ Very beautifull, shows lots of information, skinable.
- Unestable, needs lots of memory, bad routing, bad POIs.
Sigyc Drive
+ Like tomtom but more updated.
- worse routing than Tomtom.
Ndrive
+ Simple and very clear interface on navitation. Moves VERY soft.
- VERY simple. Shows very little information.
(Sorry for my english)

Unstable? in what way? I've never had any issues, even after modding the **** out of it and I aint no real pro dev..

By far the best navigation software I've ever used! properly because of the open system, lot of internet sources for speedcamera's and POI's and modifications.
Its does use a lot of memory, especially when using NASA demographic files, buildings and so on..
P.S. I do NOT work for iGo

I tried to do a search, but it came up unavailable.
I'm looking for the best GPS software available. I don't care if it's free or costs a couple hundred bucks! I'd like my X1 to be able to do everything the top of the line GPS system can do such as Garmin, Tom Tom, etc.
Please tell me which one you think is the best and why. Thank you.

I have tried CoPilot and hum Google Maps but for me, TomTom's Navigator 7.915 is the one that works best on the X1! (I haven't tried Garmin though...)

Yeah, I have used both Garmin and iGO8. I used to keep both of them on my phone, just in case, but now I only use iGO and got rid of Garmin complete after a bad experience I had with it. iGO is smoother, looks nicer, and hasn't let me down. However this is all personal preference and opinion

I use Route66 Mobile 8 and am quite happy with it.

I'd vote for Copilot. For me, it just works and it's always solid. I only wish it attempted to say street names but it's way better than Wayfinder. It performs better too since you can load the entire map on your device. Works well in combination with Google Maps.

Can any of these do 3d mapping? And Ive read that some can even distinguish exactly which lane of travel you're in...is this possible also?

I'm using autopmapa, and just used it to great success on a tour all around europe by car!
Its FAR FAR FAR better than my "proper" tomtom!!! google it

Tomtom because:
1. uses teleatlas maps
2. best interface with customization options
3. best online software support

Copilot:
- you can download it now for only $35
- very solid GPS with all sorts of sweet options

I use Garmin, iGO and Sygic.
Garmin is simple and user-friendly (in my opinion) but doesn't have many options. A lot of detailed maps are available and this is the primary reason to keep it.
iGO is nice and capable software which has the best 2d/3d visualization so far. Unfortunately my maps doesn't have a that much details as Garmin's. There is a noticeable cons - the loading process is unpleasantly slow.
Sygic Haven't used this program for a long period so keep this in mind.
Seems that Sygic use iGO maps - the interface is rather good and easy to manipulate. Again, I have some problems with the map details.
TomTom is also a popular choice although I haven't tried it yet.

For GPS software instead of just car-navigatin software, I'd have to give NoniGPSPlot a big thumbs up. Hideously full of features and extremely capable, but with the tiny downsides that it looks the littlest bit dated, and to get full use, a donation is required (ten euros, not much). Worth it though, and stunning software that seems to be able to do...anything.

you can personalize it with famous voices....xD kinda funny when the route is told you by bruce willis or someone else

I use both iGo8.3 and Copilot Live 7 (waiting for Australian maps to be released before updating to CPL8). Of the two, iGO8.3 has the better UI (3D graphics, TTS). However, having said that, iGO8 is an absolute hog on the X1's resources (CPU, memory etc) that when it's in use it pretty much precludes the use of any other app. I can get Coreplayer to run concurrently but app switching between the two is woefully slow as is switching to the phone app. Also our iGo8.3 Oz version doesn't support addressbook lookup which is a pain. I've gone back to CPL7. I agree with the earlier post, its fast, rock solid and just works. I'm rather concerned however that CPL8 will be resource intensive just like iGO8 because a lot of it features are now included in the latest release. A lot of developers overlook how much more memory etc a WVGA device uses. My 2 cents for what its worth ...

take a look at igo8 i use this for months now and perfect working even with tmc - take a llok at google für some full wm versions... even here at the forum you should find some useful links i can't belive that you can't find anything for your needs - just a tipp @google type + download or +full download behind the name of the desired app...

Try TrekBuddy. It's not too accurate but you can calibrate it and make your own maps and waypoint. It's java by the way: http://www.trekbuddy.net/forum/

TomTom 7 seriously.

I started using TomTom since version 5 and I'm fond of it, but I should admit it's mainly matter of personal liking.
I also tried iGO8, pre-installed on a standalone navigator I bought, it's not so bad, but the user interface is more chaotic in my opinion.
As far as I know, iGO interface is more customizable then TT.
Talking about algorithms, specially for route recalculation, I think they are equivalent.

Navigon
Navigon Navigator is the best! I used to use TomTom.
Navigon is very grafical and has lots of options.
On the highway you get a visual representation of the exit you should or should not take.
It even shows 3d buildings on the map if you are in a city.
Performance is also good!

Garmin
Garmin mobile xt r the best gps software for me...
since i used garmin,i never been lost on the road anymore...
if u want the software n map,u can try search at MFM forum...

I tried almost all GPS software. (TT, Garmin mobile 4 & 5, iGo8, ... etc).
Garmin is by far the WORST. Ugly, outdated and confused GUI. And it's slow as hell. But it's excellent with POI searching especially with Google integration. And it's flight schedule and traffic info over internet is handy too.
Tom Tom is not bad, but not good as well in every aspect.
iGo8 is the most powerfully and configurable. TTS (very rare on WM), TMC (even rare), good looking (with customize skin) and smooth. The only problem is require a lot of memory and takes longer to start (30sec - 1min)

what he said, some of the POI's have been a little off, and the recalculating could be a little better, but it is great overall
search google for it, i used words like TT7 and xperia, and so forth...works great

Automapa
Best of the best is Polish program called Automapa (www.automapa.com).
You can change language to english and load europe map/

Igo 8.3-the best.

I have used Garmin, Navigon, Igo, TomTom and Sygic.
Garmin was't really userfriendly in my opinion and I stopped testing it very quickly.
Igo is really nice navigation program, It is customizable, it has tmc, roadassistance. Programs starts not fast but when it starts it works fluently. There were two reasons I stopped using Igo: 1. Speech is really a chaos. Its not accurate, it replays a lot and the beep tone before the speech is really annoying. 2. GPS wasnt very accurate.
Sygic is almost like TomTom, but sometimes the calculating of the roads wasnt really logical for me, but its really nice alternative.
Navigon is the most extencive navigation program for PDA. It has visual road assistance for example. But it doesnt work very properly yet. I cant search for POI´s and its really heavy program. Speech is very good, pitty that it doesnt have querty keyboard.
I have used TomTom for a long time and looked every time to another, because it doest have any extras (it doesnt have road line assistance for example), but because its light, stable, userfriendly and everything works like it has to, I always went back to TomTom and now it is the only navigation program I use.

I have IGO8 on my HD2 and i could not ask for a better navigation, i simply LOVE it! tried IGO for Android on my Desire HD, and i almost fell off my chair. WTF is that? not even close to the Windows version

I'm afraid I don't know IGO8, so can't compare other apps to it. But when I got my DHD 3 months ago, I tried all the sat nav paid apps available on the market at the time. (This was back when you could try for 24 hours.) I also read all the online reviews I could find.
In the end, for me, the choice boiled down to CoPilot and Navigon MobileNavigator. I preferred Navigon - the display was cleaner and easier to read, and it seemed to calculate better routes. CoPilot had more options, but they were options I didn't really need. CoPilot was also cheaper.
However Navigon didn't work well with my BlueAnt S4 bluetooth handsfree car speakerhone. The voice came out of both the phone and the handsfree at the same time. I wrote to Navigon about it, but they said that they couldn't support all different bluetooth devices. So I went with CoPilot, and I've been reasonably happy with it.
However a few weeks later the developer of an app call CarUI fixed the Navigon bluetooth problem - if you used CarUI to start Navigon, the sound only came out of the handsfree speaker. Don't know why Navigon couldn't do the same thing (unless they have by now).
CoPilot is fine, and I only really use sat nav from time to time, so it's probably a good thing that I chose the cheaper option. But I really did like the look of Navigon, it's work checking out.

I know what you mean - the Adroid version of iGO is awful - jerky and those clunky sounds .
I've just been using HTC's Premium Navigator with downloaded maps. Although it said it would be a 30 day trial it's still going strong at twice that - looks like my licence is good until June!
For my needs, it's smooth and accurate enough.

Does that work okay for UK postcodes now? I tried it in November, but found the postcode search wasn't very good - it only had a partial list of postcodes - my own road wasn't in it.

Very interesting reading, thanks! I was relieved to see people saying similar things to my findings - Navigon comes out well for routes, and Contacts integration (I forgot to mention that above), but the interface could be improved (although I liked that it was clean and uncluttered). I really would have stuck with it if it wasn't for the BlueAnt handsfree problem.
CoPilot's interface is cluttered and it's routes aren't as good. I think they may have added Contacts integration now, I'll check next time I'm using it.
I don't think iGO was available when I was testing. I did try Sygic, but didn't get on well with it, I don't remember the details now. Of course testing for 24 hours isn't very easy, I think I only tested each one on the drive to work and back.
I only use sat nav occasionally, so CoPilot is good enough for me for now, but if Navigon ever fix the bluetooth issue I had with my handsfree, or if I had to rely on it on a daily basis, I'd possibly switch back.
I found TomTom on my iPhone was pretty good - better than my old Garmin satnav. It's a shame TomTom don't make an android app.

For the moment i'm using iGO and Navigon on my Desire HD

But is Q1.2010 the newest maps for navigon? its seems outdated as it not even showing a roundabout and a road that was build over a year ago where i live. my iGO maps, which are 2010.09 is showing this. i have seen Q4.2010 maps for navigon an another forum, but for MN V7.
why is 3.5.3 stuck with outdated maps?
EDIT: Navigon freshmap says Q3, but but my phone says Q1. it still misses that roundabout and that road.

Hi, i'm using Navigon 3.5, gives you traffic and alternative routes. Zip code and Poi's(also grapic) navigation.
As a former Tomtom user i'm quite happy.

CO-Pilot is working fine for me so far. Been around most of europe, never failed on me once. A good buy even though a little expensive.

Getting my DHD soon, but for now I have Co-Pilot on my Streak.
I have always had TomTom on my many Windows Mobile devices, and I loved it. On the move to Android however I had to leave TomTom behind for Co-Pilot which isn't at all as good unfortunately, but it does the job well.
The maps and program for Co-Pilot is widely available for free if you know where to look.

could i ask whats wrong with the google navigation thats free? not in a rude way just wondering the difference and why people dont use it

- no offline navigation
- unlimited dataplan useful
- no data connection with active phonecalls
- problems (of course) with lost data connection
- not very accurate when you got big crossings/streets with several lanes to take. Other software offer you some kind of assistance what lane to take

+ nice extras like sat pics
+ very good working with all google search results (POI always up to date/web)
+ traffic information always very accurate (at least in my area Frankfurt/Germany)
why do i use google?
- i got unlimited dataplan
- maps with actual versions are saved to some maps puffer. usually phone calls are not a problem
- coz its free and no matter what I search, I find it on google

My last phone was HTC HD2 with Tomtom it was just perfect!!
But Know i have the Desire Hd the things i need to know!! and i think i what to use the Copilot but is it also for Offline Use ??
And if i download it from internet do i have to look for a some kind of version!!
Same as by the HD2 ??
Ps. why does nobody have screenshort or a tut.movie that would be nice!!
