It has been a long wait but two of these adapters have popped up on ebay..
The question is to trust or not to trust

Seems pretty awesome huh!
This seller has no feedback!!
http://cgi.ebay.com/Angled-adapter-...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e5cf99471
For a little more you can get it from a slightly more reliable seller.
Even has a picture of it being used with the evo
http://cgi.ebay.com/XT800-HTC-EVO-M...ultDomain_0&hash=item2eae668ca4#ht_3238wt_822
The thing is both adapters look exactly the same!
Has anyone found a better source??
Here's another one, that isn't angled.
I actually think this one is better, wish I had held out now =(
http://cgi.ebay.com/Micro-HDMI-Type...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f01a85dd0
Turns out they're from Amzer..
funny that I can't find it on their website though.
http://www.amzer.com/HTC/HTC-EVO-4G-accessories.htm
Its also avl. Drom telesales(sprint)
*This was posted from my Evo 4G*
Kinda pricey.
Since I already have a micro HDMI to standard HDMI male, I went with a pass thru standard female HDMI to standard female HDMI for $1.50 shipped.
nice find! i'll bite from the seller with no feedback, eBay protection has us covered anyway
don't forget 8% off with bing cashback if you pay with paypal. take advantage of it while you can, it ends at the end of the month.
Great find! Def going to grab one!

I signed up for bing, got the cheaper one and saved 55 cents
Let's hope this goes well.
At least were in it together
I'm in for one as well, altho I ordered from the seller that had some feedback (40-something), so if I don't get it soon I'll be back ASAP to find out if you guys got yours. I'll let ya know how it goes either way, I hadn't even seen the thread when I jumped on it, I saw the link on one of the older threads about HDMI cables.
I really wanted this for traveling, even tho chances are I won't use it much, at 'least I'll have the option of using the EVO's HDMI-out without having to carry another HDMI cable. I already carry a standard HDMI cable that I can use for my laptop and for my camera (with an adapter as well). I don't mind the 90 degree angle as much as the size, looks pretty big, we'll see.
Does the Evo have a micro hdmi or a mini hdmi connector........never mind
Micro HDMI, otherwise known as Type D (mini is Type C)... Hence why we need this, and why finding the proper cable was such a pain initially (unless you wanted to pay 3-4x what it's worth at the Sprint store or Best Buy).
There was a third seller with these adapters at some point on Ebay btw, the link in the thread I alluded to before pointed to that seller... Apparently he's out, and the seller I got it from has sold at 'least one of 'em (it's in his feedback), so there's already a few people out there that has tried it out, heh. FWIW
Hard to tell from that pic, but think that we'll be able to use the micro-usb to charge the phone at the same time? That device looks bulky to me
^^^^
Exactly what I was thinking.
It definitely looks like it.. I messaged the seller
We'll see.
The new one I added to the OP isn't angled.
It looks like it would definitely work alongside USB.
Damnit! Why couldn't I wait a few days..
I would get the cable. That bulky thing will probably snap off your HDMI port.
is there enuff room to plug in the power cable too? cuz u will need it fo sho!
I got the angled one today, have you guys gotten yours? I think we ordered from different sellers... I'm surprised I got it this quick, must've made it from HK to Puerto Rico in just over a week! I briefly tested it this afternoon, the pics in the gallery and videos shot with the phone itself displayed perfectly on my Vizio HDTV using some cheap HDMI cable I had lying around.
It seemed like it wasn't gonna work when I first got into the gallery, but once you click on slideshow or playback the output comes up on the TV and you get some controls on the EVO. A notification also shows up on your EVO's notification shade when you hook up the cable btw, and an HDMI icon stays up there until the cable's unplugged.
I forgot to test it with YouTube, I'll get to it later and report...
I can hook up the angled HDMI adapter at the same time as a retractable USB cable that has a pretty slim plug btw, but the fit is really really snug, I wouldn't wanna use it like that all the time, YMMV. I actually went ahead and ordered the non-angled one you posted too, I figure I'll toss that one on my travel bag and I'll leave the other one at home.

The angled one plugs in securely and it doesn't feel like it's gonna damage the port at all unless you yank on it like a savage, but the angle w/the cable coming at you is pretty awkward, if it was angled in the opposite direction it'd be more natural... You could hold the EVO parallel to the ground and have the cable go straight down. I guess if you were gonna lay it down on it's screen this would be fine but then you have no access to playback controls.
Oh and I can plug in the angled adapter with a TPU case just fine, the TPU cases have a pretty minor edge/lip around the ports tho. I can try it later w/the Sprint silicon gel if anyone's interested, or I can post a pic of the small plug on my retractable USB cable. I'm pretty sure the OEM cable wouldn't fit alongside it, since it has a much wider edge around the plug.
Alright, here's some of the retractable USB cable I mentioned that I was able to plug in a the same time as the adapter... If you want to see a pic of both of 'em plugged into my EVO simultaneously lemme know and I'll get my camera and take one later (I took these w/the EVO itself).
The original EBay listings have been updated w/more pics of the angled adapter than what they had when I originally ordered it, but at this point I'd just go w/the straight one, even tho I don't think it has any less of an edge than the angled one.
They both look pretty thick, if you're gonna be playing full length movies off your EVO you might just wanna charge it beforehand.
I received it today!
I must say I am definitely pleased..
First of all it works. No problems with youtube, gallery, or anything else (yet)
Also, I thought i would hate the strange angle but I learned not only to like it but love it.
How could that possibly be, you ask? (one handed control! lol. If anythings gonna break the port it's this)
Also the standard usb fits in the port comfortably for me.
Overall it's sturdy, well made, and i've had 0 problems so far.
That said, i'd still go with the non-angled if i had the choice.
Sorry about the big pictures, they were taken in all their 8MP glory using a second evo. I did a little resizing.
P.S. This works exactly like any other hdmi cord/adapter. You can view pictures in gallery using slideshow, videos on youtube work (although I think htc needs to work on nailing down the 720p concept ), and videos work great.
If anyone is looking to sell their angled one to replace with a straight one, shoot me a PM .
Yikes, I'd be scared to hold it like that! I'll have to try the OEM cord at some point, maybe I had the wrong impression and it's actually got less of a border than the retractable one I was testing with. Just bought an extra 6-ft red HDMI cable off MonoPrice for like $5 shipped, cheapest I could find it locally was $20, can't believe they still sell for that much, sigh.

I bought a couple of these USB cables from Monoprice. They work just fine. I also bought the micro HDMI adapter from them for the EVO. Works great too! Shipping is also very cheap. If you live in California they have overnight shipment for less than $5.
Great online store.....

I've bought a few things from them. No problems at all.
A) How the hell have you not heard about Monoprice before?
B) MetalHead is a moron. Their cables are awesome.
C) I never buy a single cable from anywhere else, and I have wired my entire house - long network cables, long coax cables, long HDMI cables - and have never had a single bad cable from there.

Wow... a moron? Really? I was simply commenting on the fact that gold plated connectors mean absolutely nothing as far as the quality of a cable is concerned.
Thanks for being a jerk.

Your post insinuated that the monoprice cable was a "pile of dog ****." That is absolutely wrong.
Actually, I insinuated that just because it is gold plated does not make it good quality. Made no comment on the quality of those specific cables. Sorry if there was any confusion.

My dog is quite proud of his ****. As a matter if fact, he ****s in my room whenever possible just to show me how terrific it is. Unfortunately, he isn't the goose that laid the golden turd ;-)
Seriously guys, its obvious you just have a misunderstanding of intent. No reason for a flame war over it. I can see what Metal was trying to say and I also see why the other guy misread it.
I agree that gold plated wire connectors are more marketing gimmick than anything else. The gold they use is probably about a molecule thick or they would have to charge $1000 for the cable. Even though the gold is on the surface, the signal still has to travel through regular old wire the rest of the way. Its just a way for them to spend 5 cents and charge you $5 for it.

I brought a Micro HDMI cable from them. Came to be a bad one. The connection was really loose and had to be held at an angle for my phone and tv would see it. Emailed them and they offered to replace it. Just haven't have the time to do it yet
Most monoprice stuff is very good. I have three of these cables and they work very well.
Bought a usb cigratte lighter charger and 4 micro usb cables from them under $10. Great site

thanks for the replies yea i just recently found it when doing a little googling for phone accessories.

Depending on who you ask, some say that gold doesn't oxidize the way other metals do so you will get lower resistance and maintain max speeds, and it's supposed to last longer because gold doesn't tarnish. I realize that the latency on those 6 foot babys are not going to show any difference, but the connection is important to me. Being in the tech field for years, my own experiences tell me that I will get longer life from these. Thanks to all that spoke up about the experiences with the site.

What? Have you ever bought anything from them?
I've bought all my cables from Monoprice for years and the cables and prices are great. All my cables are from Monoprice and they are no different than the $100+ Monsters, or whatever other crap Best Buy or whoever, try and sell you.
P.S. Since you've just heard of Monoprice, this is another good site for random stuff including cables
http://www.meritline.com/
Monoprice had excellent stuff. I bought 4 of those cables and a few hdmi cables, all top notch.
Believe it or not there is a difference between $1 cables and $100 cables. I do agree that monster is a ripoff but there are benefits to investing more than just a couple dollars into your cables. Obviously $100 is excessive for almost any basic cable, but buying a $45 HDMI cable versus a $1 is not unreasonable. I work in the A/V and home automation industry and I can tell you first hand that there are noticeable performance gains from using higher end cables, especially HDMI. Aside from that, cables with better build quality just last longer and give you less problems. I'm not saying monoprice cables are bad, because I just don't know. I've never used them. My original comment was only directed at the "gold plated" comment in the OP. I was high as hell when I posted that and seriously the only thing I even remembered about the OP after reading it was that comment. My comment is a common saying in my industry and was the first thing that popped into my head. What it means is if a cable is made with sub par materials, overly thin conductors and bad build quality, gold plated connectors won't do a damn bit of good. It is still a crappy cable. Anyways, I'm deleting that comment because this is the end of it.
Looks pretty good and has room to charge another battery while your phone is docked and charging.

Yeah looks like the TB will have to be naked to fit in this dock. Please post your review as soon as you get it.
If you wait a bit, I'm certain you'll be able to find it cheaper on ebay. You should start seeing other chineese companies selling them for much less, but shipped from China (slower to get here though).
I have the Incredible dock that is similar, and hacked it up to hold the phone with a case on it (doesn't look pretty, but it DOES work).
yep i bought one from amazon...listed that its for the merge but it fits....its tight but it fits...also it has to be naked..which sucks, but the for the price its a good deal

I had that problem on my charger for the DInc, and it ended up the actual USB plug housing had split apart, and the plug was sliding back into the housing. I ended up fixing it (mine came from china, so no recourse there), and it still works fine. Just curious if that was the problem with your unit or not.
Also looks like you can get it cheaper on ebay now. As with anything from China, you take a gamble on quality... I might pick one up and see if it works with my pop case, although the USB header might be a tad too short to reach and some plastic will definitely have to be shaved off to get it to fit the back.
Anyone find a charger without the big extra battery back?

Yes, it has to be naked in order to fit into the dock.
I have 23 of these in stock... tested one and it works great.
Any questions let me know.
I ordered one too - figured not too big of a risk for that $$ and my TB will be staying naked anyway. $25 shipped on Ebay vs $60(!) for the official one.
Edit:
Funny, as soon as I posted this, the dock arrived - FAST shipping! The dock is not bad, works fine. The only complaint I have is that the phone is held almost completely vertical, no angle at all really. So that makes it a little awkward for watching video but not too bad. Charges fine, USB works fine, insertion and removal is easy. As stated before, you cannot use a case with this dock, it is a snug fit. Slot on the back for charging a second battery.
Time will tell with the durability, but it serves my needs well - easy place to plug in and charge at my office desk. Recommended especially considering the price. If the HTC dock has HDMI (I doubt it) then maybe it will be worth $60. In the meantime this is shipping and shipping fast!
I'd buy one of these if the extended battery would fit on the dock :/

The phone is almost vertical when docked.
I will not be using it.
In fact if anyone wants it, I'd sell it for 20 bucks shipped (US only).
FWIW Newegg has them for $28, but they are out of stock right now....
Dock
I didn't want to clog/hijack THIS THREAD but the pin info and idea was very helpful. After waiting and waiting and waiting for official word of a charging dock that utilizes the pogo pins on the side, I've given up hope. And lets face it if you kill the usb port on this thing "you're screwed". so I really wanted to reduce my usb port usage and utilize a feature that comes with the device.

My material list is 8 screws, 46 gauge guitar string, a strip of 1/2" playwood that happened to be ripped down to 2 1/2" in my garage, usb cable, piece of flat 1/8" thick plastic and a tiny bit of solder. The way that I screwed/bent the piece of guitar string gives the perfect amount of spring so that when the device is set both are compressed and make contact with the side of the device.
This was very spur of the moment and took me a half hour to build. And it works brilliantly. Yes I could have spent more time on design and material type and getting proper pogo pins. But I'm lazy and intent of this thread is spark ideas in other peoples heads. So now this masterpiece lives on my nightstand and I drop my galnex in at night and wake up to a full charge in the morning without having to use the usb port.
**edit** The pic of the lockscreen is in landscape using the Team Kang AOKP rom.
good day.

I love this, but I got some questions I'd like answered before attempting this.
1.For those of us without guitar string, would a paper clip bent into proper shape work well too?
2. What cable is that, that you were using just a power cord or was that usb?
3. You said it just sits on your night stand so does that mean you cant transfer data to your computer?
Also a video just going over it more or perhaps some more pics of the back there would be nice (at least for me) to see what is screwed around the screw.

1. no idea, sorry. Check out the pogo pins though.
2. Thats a power cable, a usb would have a wire for data.
3. the pins don't transfer any information (well... the middle one does, but not anything useful to a pc) so transferring stuff would be impossible. (but thats what wifi is for)
This is beautiful and ugly at the same time.
One thing I would recommend is cutting out an area at the bottom of the phone so that you COULD attach a USB, OTG, or MHL cable if need-be. Perhaps that side of the dock could be shaped like a B, or notched to also allow access to the headphone port.
I would also maybe split out the power connection to a microUSB port to power MHL or other accessories. Or maybe just wire up a fullsize female USB to power another unit such as a bluetooth headset or whatever. It just would be nice to have a powered USB port just in case.
To the guy above, sure it may not look perfect but a coat of paint would spruce it up very well.
Overall A+
I might try my hand at something like this. I'm a cheap ass when it comes to buying crap for phones (since I go through them often). I have all the materials already with the exception of spare guitar strings but the paperclip idea sounds great and can be bent to size. I have some Poplar wood in my basement that would even look good with a heavy clear coat.

I am thinking of attempting this as well. Except I dont have the wood to spare for this, so I am trying to look for a generic stand on ebay that would be possible to modify to fit at the least the pogo pins and at the most everything you mentioned. Because it would be a MHL adapter built in and ready to go.
Nice Job! Very creative use of guitar strings in lieu of pogo pins! I might have to try something like this...

I've spent the past day or so mulling over spending a pocketful of cash for a brand new phone these days, after so many years of grabbing up used hardware passed down by other people, I'm at a point where the current generation of phones (like the GS4A) are most certainly "powerful enough" to do some of the things that I'd like to do. My idea is this, as crazy as it might sound, is to build myself a nice desktop machine (which is on the planning board right now as well) but also get a brand new high end smartphone which I intend to use in manner like so:
- attach the high end smartphone to a dock (if one is available) that allows me to plug in a keyboard, mouse, and of course a high definition monitor (in this case with the GS4A, a 1920x1080 model to match the resolution, I don't need more than that
- when I'm at home I can simply put the phone on the dock and then it will become my "terminal" powering the desktop monitor, controlled by the keyboard and mouse, and running a terminal services/remote desktop application which then allows me to "remote in" to the desktop computer (which will be in another part of the room on the same network)
Yes, it does sound a bit crazy but it's what I have in mind. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has or owns the Samsung Galaxy Smart Dock Multimedia Hub as seen here:

I know that it's a bit expensive for what it is, but the capabilities it offers are perfect for my particular plans I have in mind. I've found it for a bit less on eBay and Amazon so, it's under strong consideration since I'd prefer to use such a dock instead of using an MHL adapter then that into a hub, etc - which would probably be an issue getting USB signals out at the same time as the HDMI for the monitor, and so on. A single dock doing all that (and offering 3 USB ports and audio output too) is far more realistic.
So, if anyone has such a dock could you comment on your experience(s) with it with the GS4A? I'm going over to the GS4 forum to look around for info - I'm just making an assumption that the dock works with the GS4A since it is a Galaxy device and that dock is supposed to be for all of them, more or less. The recessed USB port on the GS4A (because of the "rugged" casing design) might make it more difficult to attach, perhaps Samsung has one of those adapters to raise the microUSB plug on the adapter and make it flush. It's all part of my research now.
I wish I could get that "Flame Orange" version of the GS4A but I can't seem to locate a seller for it, I believe that's the International version of the GS4A and on eBay it's commanding prices in the $900 range and I simply cannot afford that much. I may even end up buying a GS4A used, who knows.
Already picked out my case, however, it's that Supcase Unicorn Beetle one in Yellow/Black, that thing is simply gorgeous.
Thanks for any input or information, it's appreciated.
Edit: I just checked and yes it appears to be compatible with the GS4A as noted on the "Supported Devices" support page, awesome.
I looked at that dock, and others as well, but have been waiting for someone else to check if it actually works with the Active or not... Maybe you
What I wonder is what happens to the rubber USB plug when the phone is in the dock. Does it just get crushed underneath, or is their a space for it? Maybe the plug will need to be removed completely, which is something I'm close to doing anyway since I didn't get this phone to use underwater anyway.
If you do decide to purchase, please post back and let us know...
If you look on the page you linked to, under compatible with, click "see all", and you'll note that the Active is listed on the second page - at least the AT&T model. In other words, it seems it would work!
I'd consider it myself if I had room for a third monitor on my desk.
Found this giant pic online. It looks like the piece in the middle can be taken out to help accommodate the rubber flap. I don't have one myself but it looks pretty solid.

Gotta love it when the ad says "SHIPS WORLDWIDE" but in this somewhat rare instance it can't/doesn't/won't ship to the US, go figure. Bleh.
Got a friend over in the UK, will ask her if she can order it for me, have it shipped to her then she'll send it my way.
I ended up getting an S4 Active in somewhat "horribad" cosmetic condition: was dropped by the previous owner < 2 weeks after purchase, the Dive Blue model from AT&T, and developed a typical "spider web" crack in the glass but the digitizer is still 100% functional and the LCD suffered no ill effects, missing the original battery cover/back plate and the original battery, but I got it for $100 so whatever, I'm a somewhat happy camper at this moment.
Working on getting an unlock code so I can use it with T-Mobile, was reading up on that AWS "unlock" as well to help with the data connection, will see how it all works out over the next few days/weeks I suppose.
It's damned fast, and even in spite of the crack and no back cover (I got a battery off craigslist for $30, not brand new but it works so that's a plus).
Still would like to get one of these docks so yes, I'd like to hear your experience when yours arrives, thanks.
Arrived the other day and i must say im impressed, it worked well with my phone and my wifes (S3), It came with an euro charger and an american charger but i just used my phone charger and it works, it shows in portrait but when the phone flips into landscape mode its fits the whole screen.
I had a chance to get one from Samsung at half price using that 50% coupon code they gave me for registering the phone to my account, but of course I forgot about it completely when I ordered a single battery the other day - DOH!!! Should have just put both of them in the cart and got both products for less than the regular price of just one of the docks.
But I'll live I guess. I had originally intended to use the dock as I said in the first post above: like it was a "computer" of sorts attached to a keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc; I realized that wasn't going to be a feasible situation for me so I've decided to go the opposite direction and do everything I can to be truly wireless meaning using a wireless charger and all data transfers to and from the phone using Wi-Fi, and maybe even using the Wi-Fi Direct or DLNA capability to send some "video" out from it as well, there are lots of possibilities.
Just bought a Jawbone JAMBOX for $50 on craigslist and for it's size it's quite amazing too, now paired with my GS4A and crankin' out some Rush.
We'll see what happens...
I know this smart dock works with the Note 3
Since we are talking about the Samsung multimedia smart dock, I tested this out and it works with the note 3 as well, if anyone is interested:

Has anyone tried one of these qi receiver tags that plugs into your Micro USB port?

I know they aren't optimal, but I figured if it works it would be a good hold over until good ones come out for the G3 specific.
I will let you know when my phone gets in, I have one left over from my LG G2. I don't see why it shouldn't work though.

Thanks. Any idea which one I should look at getting? Haven't seen a good enough shot of the micro USB port to make sure I get one facing the right direction. I've got Amazon Prime so I'll probably get one from there to test.

That one is on Amazon, Prime, and has 2 different models. Anyone seen a close enough photo to know which one we'd need? Port A or Port B?
I'm going to try to find one with a metal plug instead of this plastic one.
This one has tons of different options. Less than $11 on prime.

Sorry for the multiple posts, I thought it would collapse them.
From what I saw in pictures, it should be this one correct?

If so I'll pick one up today so its here for testing when my phone arrives.
Yes I got one and didn't work.
Didn't charge at all? Can you give us some specifics?
No didn't even register on the phone. It was only $7. I ended up ripping out the Quick Circle charging coil and putting it in my phone. Works a treat!
Thanks. Do you know exactly which one you used (perhaps a link to where you purchased) so those of us that want to test other ones skip it?

Im using this one; http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HI8JYFE/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
No problems after all. Working OK with my F400K
So now its working? Awesome! Buying 2 right now.
Mine works as well, I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IQ2GUFI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
BUT it only works if i have the receiver stuck on the back of the phone in between it and the phone case. If I have it on top of the battery the signal doesn't make it through.. perhaps because of the curved nature of the phone and the NFC receiver on the inside of the back cover.
I was always under the impression that NFC and wireless charging interfered with each other unless it was one integrated unit. That's probably why yours only works that way.
Well I got mine and tried it out, and while it does work, kind of, I'm sending them back. The cable ribbon is so thin it feels like it is going to rip, it would also need you to bend it at a bad angle to get it inside a case or inside the back. I can't get a GOOD charging connection with my TYLT VU chargers, so it is going back.

The cable ribbon is probably thin because you need to bend it at weird/sharp angles and it has to fit in the cracks of the back or case. As long as you're not constantly pulling on it, there's really no risk of tearing. Connections are fine with my $20 chargers, I can drop it on pretty much anywhere in the vicinity of the receiver and it'll charge.
Charge rate depends on which receiver you go with. Most, including the ones posted here, are 500mA which is kind of slow. I should be getting an 800mA one soon so hopefully that'll pick up the pace. IMO, these are still better than switching to PMA.
Its not so much the thin that bothers me, it is how flimsy it is. I mean it could have some reinforcement of some kind you'd think. And it leaves the pad really low on the phone, probably part of the reason it doesn't connect well even with a QI pad a good as the TYLT VU. Just removing the thing to root my device was scary, I thought the USB plug was going to tear off and stay in.
I just bought 2 battery covers with integrated Qi/NFC for $23 each on ebay (my wife got a G3 also) so that should fix the issues for me. Not sure what the VU charges at, but with my Nexus 5 it was always great, for a heavy user like me, I was satisfied (Qi dock in my car too).
What kind of qi car dock do you have? I love the wireless charging and have seen a few posts you put on XDA. I ordered that back plate from eBay, hopefully it works OK and I had ordered the sticker from China but it seems like a pain in the ass ripping off the old one.

Let me find a link for you. Been really happy with it. Glad my posts are helping folks!
