Copy / Paste? Froyo - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering, I rooted my Desire and have uploaded a Froyo ROM (DeFrost 2.0b)
But copy and paste functionality doesn't seem to work anywhere anymore, just wondering if there is a reason for this or if I'm missing something?

The copy/paste functionality came from the HTC Sense. There is a somewhat worse implementation of it on the stock Froyo roms. This is available in both the browser and email. You can use it by being in the relevant application, hitting the menu button, then 'More' then 'Select Text'. You'll notice it is nowhere are intuitive as the Sense UI copy/paste but it passes.

New WM UI by PointUI

An interesting development going on at PointUI for a new WM experience. Found it at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354855
thanks for the heads up, looks pretty good
The PoinUI web page is located at: http://www.pointui.com/. According to their posting, the interface will be available shortly.
Just been released and works a treat.
Don't forget to turn off FTouchflo first.
Deva
It is available now and is very smooth! And it works fine with TouchFlo.
Using it now. Probably spend some time today learning to navigate the interface. Initial impression is very good!
I can't do .exe from my work computer. Does anyone have the .cab by chance?

Greg
its brilliant, tried most things, perfect so far
greg beat me to it....
I like what I see so far, I may just drop the HTC look!
nice fresh UI.. only drawback when running this UI, few of your hardware buttons namely Messaging, IE button, Windows & OK buttons will not work ..it needs some manual re-mapping for hermes I believed.
..other hardware buttons works though..
nonetheless, it is a great program overall
Just the time to be used to and... you cannot imagine working without. Nice tool. I just hope that it will be possible to use all buttons
Very cool interface. I do find the HTC home more efficient, but this is a very fun interface to play with. No problems with operation.
I agree. HTC Home is more efficient. I like the HTC Home tabs. Use them all the time.
Trying to find anything that resembles a configuration page for PointUI. Probably go back to HTC Home.
Experiment is over; went back to HTC Home. Initial impressions were very good. However, when I tried to use it, as I would on a daily basis, it was difficult to get to the things I use.
Probably will monitor the development of this interface to see if it improves below the surface. BTW, it doesn't remove easily. I had to do a restore (Sprite Backup) to get back. I guess there is a benefit in doing a backup before trying new software.
I love the look and feel, if they could fix the button mapping and add a browser with the speed of safari this could definitely squash the iphone. Would be nice to have some other backgrounds too. HTC Home may be more efficient but this way cooler... I'm sticking with it.
Things it needs:
customizable launcher so far that's my only complaint
Comment:
removal was very simple using the update manager program navigate to Home v1.o and select uninstall, very neat and clean.
For some reason the cab didn't work for me, using stock Cingular ROM. Regular installer worked fine tho
I've installed it on 2 devices using different service providers, installation worked ok, very slick navigation. I like it although having used HTC Home and HTC Plus! I would say it does take a little longer to get to specific apps as its not configurable yet.
Here are some observations
1. Would be better if you could select the items on the home page, I don't need weather, I can look out of the window and see what its like today and can look on line for a more accurate forecast if I need it.
2. I have a couple of ICONS in applications and games that error with shellres.dll the error complains about not being signed or a missing component
3. Notifications appear but dissapear and then cannot be re-located, this is a pain with Voicemail if you don't already have SMS alert set.
4. Would like the option to choose a different theme.
5. Why 2 clocks, configuration should allow for either type either analogue or digital.

Email attachments and tilt 2keyboard remap

Two things.
1. I ran the tilt keyboard fix cab and nothing changed. What am I doing wrong
2. When I go to open an email attachment like .png .pdf .doc it says it can't be opened
Is this normal and if not how can I fix it. I can't believe that android lacks this functionality
Apart from these quirks I am very impressed. As soon as sound and power management get fixed I will move to using android full time
Well, I can answer one of your questions. If the Tilt2 Keyboard fix you're talking about is the one I'm thinking of, it's for Windows Mobile, not for Android. To enable proper keymapping for the Tilt2 with Android, you must use the rootfs.img made by AdamWill, found here.
or just download the tilt2 specific build here

[ROM] 2-18-10 Egzthunder1's 25005 (MetroPCS) - Clean Version

Thank you all for being patient. I don't have as much time to cook as before but due to a bunch of requests (particularly due to different tastes for boot splash images), I decided to cook a new rom altogether rather than fixing the old one. This one has more features too! So, if anything, you are all getting something better (and so am I )
*Increased pagepool size to 18 MB!
*New Build 25005 (no clue about which COM branch it belongs to, so please don't ask )
*Added Bing
*Added Mega Dialer (scroll bar is still an issue, but it doesn't look that bad)
*MSN Widgets are Back
*Removed Opera since there is a newer version out there (with Flash support!). I haven't gotten the cab, so I will let you all install it and let me know
*Internet Sharing Added
*FaceBook Mobile is Back!
*Showcase Task Manager
*Added QuickGPS (for faster lockons... or so I hear)
*Dialer Lag is gone!!!
*The only extra that I don't like (and I did not put in) was haptic feedback when touching the start menu. If anyone knows how to get rid of this... please.
Here is the Link
Installation Notes:
Drop the XDA_UC folder located in the rar file onto the root of your SD card. Flash and soft reset. The UC process will start upon second boot. You can add/remove any cabs that you want to (or not want) so that the system will install them automatically.
CDMA Weather Fix:
Select the weather in your city in the Manila tab prior to installing this fix. Once it is selected, install and soft reset.

Please enjoy and if you like it and feel like buying me coffee... by all means
Bugs
*Graphics on the radio buttons and scroll bars look weird. I think that the zoom on them is screwed up. Looking for a solution...
*Strange behavior of the bottom bar. Touching either left-most or right-most corners will make the device vibrate. Touching the center will make it make a sound. I have absolutely no clue why this is happening. I have never come across this on any rom... suggestions are welcome. FIXED! See Next Post on How to do it
*I accidentally forgot to cook in the MMS composer, but you can get it from a lot of different threads in this site. You will need to obtain a cab and install it (sorry about this).
Everything else is working so far
Misc and Fixes
*Vibrating Bottom Bar: This is due to Showcase Task Manager, which I had no idea it had this "annoying" feature on it. To disable, open Regedit (cooked in the rom) and look for the following entries
HKCU\Software\e-Natives Technology\Showcase
Look for the following 2 keys and change the values to 0
SuiteVibrate_Tap
SuiteVibrate_Hold
One more for the road
egz, which opera has flash support. I didn't think any of the opera browsers supported flash yet.

I read somewhere in the Dev ad Hacking that a new version of Opera had emerged with flash support... I will see if I can find it.
BTW,
I am about to release a new rom (I am currently uploading). I think I have tackled all the small issues present in this one. I'm sure all of you will be happy with it
Opera Mobile 10 u3 has the flash support. Its off by default, you just need to enable it in settings.
BTW, there have been ways to get flash working on opera for pretty much every 9.X version as well, it just required some fiddling (and ran like crap, buts thats besides the point, it did work).

Yes, I am aware of that. Ever since the cabs for Flash lite 3 surfaced about a year and a half ago. And I do agree too... it was very much crappy

Loss of WM 6.1 features :-(

I just upgraded my Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 to WM 6.5 and have the following questions:
1) With WM 6.1 there used to be a pulldown button in the top right corner of the screen that would allow you to see what applications where running and to close anything that were no longer needed. This is no longer available in WM 6.5, can anyone tell me how to see what applications are currently running on my phone with WM 6.5?
2) With WM 6.1 when selecting my Favorite Contacts I was given an option to Call, email, text the person. Now with 6.5 it immediately calls the individual without giving any other options. Since I text most of the time this feature is really missed.
I'm sure these can be solved by changing some option in my phone, if anyone could help me out it would be appreciated.
unfortunately thats not fixable. the new sense 2.5 is designed that way (poorly imo). I switched back to tf3d and 6.1 for various reasons; this being one of them.
I have the T-Mobile version.
1) The item is still there, just with a different style. (This could be T-Mobile only).
2) Click on the icon on the far right side of the item.
well two things that can be fixed
1 . little drop down was the task manager so just install this program and itll be back
2 . when you click to add the contact to favorites select view contact card and that will give you the options every time you click on that person .
tseidel you are The Man!
I was just about to ask cirrob how to go back to 6.1 (not at all relishing reinstalling all my apps). cirrob bummer on you having to reinstall 6.1.
So tseidel does the cab just change a registry entry?
The Favorite fix isn't quite as slick as 6.1 but infinitely better than nothing.
Thanks again!
no actually it adds the old task manager thats y if you go to programs task manger it looks dif but its serves the same purpose
6.5 has many quirky issues. Of all the cooked ROMs I've tried, the official T-Mobile 6.1 was the fastest, most stable, most memory, and most functional of them all. I'm currently using T-Mobile 6.5 as it gets better battery life, location based weather (which I like) and is very stable, but has less RAM and ugly backgrounds.
But I also miss the option for two numbers available on each favorite, the old default keyboard (you had to use a stylus with), and the recently opened programs in the start menu. Now I have to scroll through a million icons if I can't fit the program on my prog tab.
1- Install "Dutty's Task Manager" and you have back old button for task
huh.....
Im running 6.5 and i have the task manager in top right....
go to settings->system->task manager->then one of the tabs. cant remember and phones battery dead so cant be bothered to find out.
its in the somewhere though

This is unnecessarily complicated, since it forces you to choose the contact method every single time.
The correct solution is to do it exactly as in 6.1 and select the preferred contact method for each favorite. When you want to use a different method, tap on the grey name area below the contact picture instead of on the contact picture itself. That will pop up the contact card and allow you pick from among all available contact methods.

I'd be pretty surprised if you're running the official Sprint WM 6.5 ROM, from which this has, in fact, been removed.
It's not hard to install a replacement, but doing so is required in order to get the Task Manager back on this ROM.
THX
to tseidel also... I tried all the 'higher' numbered ones and none worked (on Rho SEA WM6.5 update) but this one!!
I use wk task manager which i found here on xda. it is great I am surprised nobody uses it. I covers the top bar and has little icons of all the programs running. you can click on it to open the program. or you can touch and hold and have a bunch of options. it will take a little playing around to figure out all the options. it also comes with a program launcher that you swipe the screen to bring up. I dont use that feature because I use spb mobile shell which has a great launcer that is completely customizable.

Modifying Browser UAString in Froyo

Hey all,
As some of you who use Desires with Telstra know, if you use a Custom ROM, Telstra will no logner allow you to use any of their online content (Telstra Appstore, Mobile Foxtel, etc), and will meter you for browsing their "unmetered" pages.
I tracked this problem down to the fact that the carrier uses a specific UAstring check for the Browser, and Created a "TelstraMod" for Paul's MCR 2.1 Desire ROM, by changing the various settings in /system/customize to fix the problem (and also setting some things like Australian site default bookmarks, changing the Language settings to en_AU, etc).
I was excited when the first Froyo ROMS such as DeFroST arrived, and went in to take a look to make a TelstraMod for Aussie Telstra users on Froyo.
Alas, the /system/customize folder has dissapeared!
So I have two Questions:
1: Why was the /system/customize folder removed in 2.2?
2: What options are there now to modify the Browser's UAString at the ROM level? The about:debug method doesn't work, since the UAstring has to be specific.
If anyone can shed some light onto this particular issue, it would be fantastic.
