Modifying Browser UAString in Froyo - Desire General

Hey all,
As some of you who use Desires with Telstra know, if you use a Custom ROM, Telstra will no logner allow you to use any of their online content (Telstra Appstore, Mobile Foxtel, etc), and will meter you for browsing their "unmetered" pages.
I tracked this problem down to the fact that the carrier uses a specific UAstring check for the Browser, and Created a "TelstraMod" for Paul's MCR 2.1 Desire ROM, by changing the various settings in /system/customize to fix the problem (and also setting some things like Australian site default bookmarks, changing the Language settings to en_AU, etc).
I was excited when the first Froyo ROMS such as DeFroST arrived, and went in to take a look to make a TelstraMod for Aussie Telstra users on Froyo.
Alas, the /system/customize folder has dissapeared!
So I have two Questions:
1: Why was the /system/customize folder removed in 2.2?
2: What options are there now to modify the Browser's UAString at the ROM level? The about:debug method doesn't work, since the UAstring has to be specific.
If anyone can shed some light onto this particular issue, it would be fantastic.

Multiple Programs tab for M2D

Hi,
I'm greatly enjoying my recently upgraded to M2D(NFSFAN ROM) Sprint Touch. All this time I have been using iFonz and was quite happy with it but there were way too many soft resets due to Microsoft error messages.
Anyway, my question is: Is it possible to have multiple pages of "Programs" tab in M2D? In iFonz I could choose how many pages to display plus the number of icons in each page.
Also, it seems the "Programs" tab only allows programs that are in Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder. I'd like to be able to create shortcuts to some programs that don't appear in this folder. Maybe all I need is create a .lnk file and copy it to this folder, but then I probably won't get a nice icon to go with it.
I searched XDA with different keywords to get answers, but the results were not what I wanted.
There is an extra tab available in M2D called the Operator tab. Originally this was meant for operators such as Bell, Telus, Sprint etc to be able to add their own "operator" programs on an M2D tab. (Bell music, sprint tv etc).
This was unused in North America because most carriers stopped offering the Touch family in favour of the diamond. As such the M2D styled touch's (Viva, 3G, opal etc) never made it to market here.
Developers at XDA came up with a program to modify the operator tab with whatever links you want, as well as to rename it. It can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=451623
To add programs not found in your start menu, With NFSFAN's ROM, (6.1 or 6.5) right clicking the file will give you the option "send to program menu". This makes it much easier when flashing alot.

Hello jmitr,67
thanks for the suggestions. I tried running the program that you provided the link for but it gave me a null exception error. In the thread many other guys were also having problems. My NFSFAN ROM(Sprint 1.1.2) is the one I got from this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432487. Not sure if this is the latest, but since I like all its features I'm hesitant to reflash the phone with a newer version.

NFSFAN removed support for the operator tab in the last few 6.1 versions. I have an edited homesettings.xml file from him to solve that. It's on my laptop though, when I get the chance i'll edit this post with a link to it.

How to switch WiFi on automatically...???

I flashed my TP2 with the new official HTC Europe WM 6.5 (Sense 2.5) ROM build 2.07.401.1
A few questions:
1. Is it possible to install a cab or a registry tweak in order to set the WiFi to be turned on automatically when a program (like Opera or Quick GPS) is trying to access the internet (I don't have a data plan). The last version of the HTC European 6.5 ROM (Sense 2.1) gave me the option for that...not this one. (I wanna avoid third party apps like AK WiFi Toggle, etc)
2. Is it possible to add more shortcuts than the standard nine to the home screen?
TIA
Yes and yes. Did you search?
1) Maybe WiFi locations will help.
2) There are cabs for 12, 16, 20 and maybe others. Look around grasshopper. Don't be lazy.

Copy / Paste? Froyo

Just wondering, I rooted my Desire and have uploaded a Froyo ROM (DeFrost 2.0b)
But copy and paste functionality doesn't seem to work anywhere anymore, just wondering if there is a reason for this or if I'm missing something?
The copy/paste functionality came from the HTC Sense. There is a somewhat worse implementation of it on the stock Froyo roms. This is available in both the browser and email. You can use it by being in the relevant application, hitting the menu button, then 'More' then 'Select Text'. You'll notice it is nowhere are intuitive as the Sense UI copy/paste but it passes.

[Q] Accessing Telstra content from a stock (non-sense) ROM

As Telstra users may be aware, there's a ROM out there called T-Mod (www.t-mod.org) which is a modified LeeDrOiD release to include the Telstra user agent strings in the HTC browser. This allows access to Telstra services like mobile foxtel, whereis, my data usage, etc. Normally Telstra locks these services so that they can only be accessed by the correct user agent.
The HTC browser is great in that its user agent string can be modified in a human-readable XML file. Unfortunately, in virtually all other regards, it's fairly horrid to use compared to the stock Android browser. The problem being, the stock android browser has the user agent strings compiled into it.
I've managed to compile a new version of the cyanogenmod browser, with an option to change the useragent to the Telstra string, and it identifies itself correctly as: "Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.2; en-au; HTC_Desire_A8183 V1.16.841.1 Build/FRF91) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1" which, as far as I can tell, is the string reported by the Telstra HTC browser. I'm using the exact same APN configuration as a working telstra rom.
Yet, it still won't access the content. Are there any knowledgable users/devs here that can possibly shed some light on how else the Telstra mobile site might be identifying users?
I know this is probably an obvious question, but are you using WiFi or 3G to access the Telstra content?
You can only access a majority of the Telstra content via 3G with the correct Telstra proxy.
I'm curious to find out which UAStrings and settings need to be changed too.
I like T-Mod, but I would prefer a build based on a stock HTC rom, which I'm researching on right now
how did you go with this im also keen to use a different rom?
cheers

[Q] Global Proxy on Pays-ROM Defy v6.0 Froyo

Hey ppl,
Is there a way to setup global proxy on Pays-ROM Defy v6.0 Froyo?
When I say 'global' I mean that not only Gmail and stock Browser can go through it but Opera, Dropbox, IMs and other things can too.
I tried with ProxyDroid, and it did work, but only for one day. When I reboot my phone the other day it couldn't use proxy in Opera Mobile anymore, nor any other custom apps
Any suggestions?
OK, so I found the solution for Opera browser.
Just type in URL opera:config
Then u can set proxy and some other stuff too...
But, that's not what I was lookin for, cause, other apps still won't work
