How to switch WiFi on automatically...??? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

I flashed my TP2 with the new official HTC Europe WM 6.5 (Sense 2.5) ROM build 2.07.401.1
A few questions:
1. Is it possible to install a cab or a registry tweak in order to set the WiFi to be turned on automatically when a program (like Opera or Quick GPS) is trying to access the internet (I don't have a data plan). The last version of the HTC European 6.5 ROM (Sense 2.1) gave me the option for that...not this one. (I wanna avoid third party apps like AK WiFi Toggle, etc)
2. Is it possible to add more shortcuts than the standard nine to the home screen?
TIA

Yes and yes. Did you search?
1) Maybe WiFi locations will help.
2) There are cabs for 12, 16, 20 and maybe others. Look around grasshopper. Don't be lazy.

Now I present you with Version 0.20 of XDA Live!
Click here for Images of all the Themes I have collected. I've decided that instead of embedding them all, I will remove all but the default Crossbow Theme and add the Aero Theme. The Themes Page is being updated to allow you to click on the image to download the Theme.
I've received several requests for a PayPal link to donate in support of my efforts so I finally broke down and did it. If you go to the page with the themes (use the link above) at the bottom there is a PayPal Link. Thanks in advance to anyone who contributes and don't forget please send to XDA-Developers.com first.

Please let's keep this thread clean. This will aide in getting things fixed/added as quickly as possible.
If you just want to chatter go to one of the other threads for this Rom (see the end of the FAQ a few posts down). I will leave only one thread sticky but it will always contain links to all "Official" Threads for the Rom.

Official FAQ...
Q: How do I install it.
A: The self extracting archive will run the RUU after it extracts all files. I used The XDA RUU which was modified to push the Des Bootloader to your device. This Installer does not require your device to be SuperCID and should work with all bootloader versions. This installer only has a HTC Splash Screen and the OS, No radio or Ext_ROM.
Q: When I try to flash this Rom I get "Error 260: Update Error" why can't I flash this?
A: Remove you Security Pin,
Q: Will WMXL (Windows Mobile XDA Live) fix my corrupted radio bootloader or otherwise bricked Hermes?
A: If the other tools here can't do it then don't bet the farm on WMXL doing it. The Flashing tools are still the same, no magic pill here.
Q: If I upgrade to WMXL can I downgrade to an official Rom from my carrier?
A: Of course you can. WMXL DOES NOT HAVE A RADIO ROM so your Radio & Radio BootLoader are not touched. If you are not SuperCID you can use a Rom from your carrier to downgrade or you can use SSPL.
Q: What will happen to my Extended Rom when I flash WMXL?
A: Nothing. There is no Extended Rom included.
Q: Can you make it in German/French/Italian/Klingon for me?
A: The short answer is NO. I'm focusing on the OS, changing languages and localization are not something I want the delve into. Any replacement keyboard program for WM5 ought to work in WM6, best I can say is try what you're currently using the worst that will happen is you'll lose a few hours of time and maybe have to hard reset. For OS localization to a different language I'm sure some of the WM5 techniques will work but WM6 has different support for OS Language. Personally I'd either wait until MS releases Language Packs or someone takes an interest and figures this out so we can localize at hard reset.
Q: Kyphur you are such a Guru, how can I be like you?
A: Remember that my head is in the clouds on this one only because I'm standing on the shoulders' of giants. This project owes it's very existence to many other contributers here and they deserve as much if not more of the cudos than I do. The is a team effort, please support everyone who made this possible. (See my post here). I have been a member her for only 15 months give or take but I have spent more time reading than doing or posting.
Q: Can you release Cab file updates instead of cooking new Roms to flash?
A: I will do both. For example there were WMXL Update Cabs for Internet Calling and Windows Live! Mobile (for example). Some of these features will get embedded into the next release. I'm doing this to save you from having to flash you device as often as I am. Remember the Cab files will consume Program Memory whereas the new Rom releases will not.
Q: If you embed a program into the Rom how can I remove it (to save memory).
A: You can't remove files that are in the Rom. You can remove the Shortcuts to the programs. If you don't want the program simply ignore it and it will not harm you.
Q: Will you still release the scripts?
A: With the sudden release of several "Rom Kitchens" for the Hermes, my scripts are actually the hard way to do things. I will continue to use them as it allows me to easily switch from one Base ROm to another without much extra work. I would recommend that other wanting to cook Rom use one of the Rom Kitchens. Personally I will be experimenting with Olipro's as some of his earlier works have made WMXL possible. After WMXL v0.20 is released I will release a "Clean WM6 Rom" which will make a good base for other Rom Chefs. It will not include any of the additional progroms I embed but will have all of the core stuff (like Office Mobile).
Q: Will you still release a version based on the original Rom (from your unnamed source).
A: WMXL v0.20 uses my original Base Rom. Please note that the Vanilla Rom is derived from the same Base Rom as I have been using. The big difference is that I spent a lot of time sifting through the Rom files sorting what to delete whereas the Vanilla Rom, while good, has had a little too much trimmed off in some areas while junk has been left standing in others. Another difference is that I have changed a few files in WMXL v0.20 so that it can support Cingular's PTT.
Q: Why do my recent programs keep disappearing on every reset?
A: That is StartClean. If you don't want this then simply delete the shortcut from your Startup Folder.
Q: I have more questions...
A: This Thread is for misc duscussions.
...

This Rom really is a group effort.
Without pof & team unlocking I never would have even gone looking for the base Rom.
aChef by aklok_hk is doing the heavy lifting.
Sleuth255, ShogunMark, Faria ViJay555, Bepe, Maimach have all been instrumental either directly or indirectly in this project.
Des and the SSPL was another step that got me to this point.
Olipro's RUU Workshop was used to make the installer package.
Of course there are all of the guys who have been doing this before I bought my first PPC Phone, they blazed the trail I simply walk behind them.
baudy2 for the OS version edit, wpbear for the Stand-alone Cyberon Voice Dialer CAB, coeptum for the regedit to fix the E/G indicator, schriss for pointing out that WM6 used an older Video Driver, shafez for providing the MSN Files.
Of course there is my team of beta testers.
Finally, I can't forget my unnamed source. They took a big change passing this along to me. Even though this relase is built on the Vanilla Rom, without that trust I wouldn't have been able to spend that previous week cooking with a WM6 Rom Image.
If I missed someone I apologize, just PM me and I'll update the list.

Thanks Kyphur and the TEAM for this great release,
As I asked before, Is there a need for a direct mirror link?
So far so good, except GPRS....
Breaks every 3-4 min and can reconnect only after soft reset.
Thanks a lot again.

Any mirrors are welcome...
I've have GPRS connected since my last flash (about 90 minutes) without dropping the connection. I use HTweakC to Enable CPRS/G3 Auto Attach" and "Set Connection AlwaysOn".
Are you installing any Cingular Cabs?
Are you enabling HSDPA?

BBConnect
Thanks also for this release guys.
Installed this looking forward to the BBConnect fix, but hitting an issue. I run v 2.1.2.52 and whilst I can install and run the software, it isn't pulling down email. I notice that the wireless synch box is never ticked when installed, yet despite clicking this - and attempting to force a synch it doesn't work.
Any suggestions??
Thanks in advance....

Only BBConnect v 2.1.2.31 works under this version.
Please be more specific, are you receiving an error? Explain exactly the behavior you are observing.
Also, everyone please post which point version your are running (.0 = no PDF, .1= Adobe Acrobat PDF) when reporting an issue.

Noob questions (so many of us)

I've had search on the forums, but have questions i can find the answer to.
I'm a PC tweaker and overclocker. I fancy doing the same with my phone. more out of curiosity then any real need.
MDA Compact 3 (tmobile)
Most used app is tomtom.
I've found the how to bit, and understand the the getting "CID unlocked" then doing the rom flash.
My main questions are.
Once flashed, is there much needed to be done to get it back on the network? ( buggered about on a mobi a while ago and getting it back on the network took ages)
What are the main benefits of upgrading?
I've seen the touchflo demo on youtube and know you can get roms for my phone. what is the best one for my phone/network?
And what the most stable one?
what would be a good rom for some one who install/uninstall lots of app and generally like to poke around, but really only uses it as a phone and gps?
Cheers for any pointers/help
Hi Megabite,
What do you mean with network?
The Network of your telco of your home network?
The best rom for MDA Compact is B&B 4.0 with touch flo.
GPS is working fine
But 4.1 is coming with the latest OS.
And the camera is also fixed. So just wait until released.
The rom is in beta testing
Thanks for the reply.
I meant network as in my telco, as in t-mobile UK.
So just to clarify, touchflow is the user interface that "sits" on windows mobile version 6 (or wm v5) or is it a seperate user interface?
and any date for the realse of 4.1
No, no network problems, you'll just have to run the network wizard to auto configure the gprs internet stuff.
The touchflo cube is just a pretty app that sits on top of the OS - it's ok, but I find the fact that the touchflo driver allows you to scroll up/down in lists and docs a lot more useful.
As far as 4.1 coming out, it comes out when Tom and his testers think its ready - no ETA yet from what I've seen
The Touchflo cube is an interface for accessing some commonly used programs, contacts etc, Touchflo also allows you to scroll using finger movements in other apps, eg internet explorer.
If you do upgrade to a WM6 rom the benefits are a more stable OS & HTML email amongst other things. Tmobile have stated that they will not be releasing a WM6 ROM for the MDA C3 so if you do want to upgrade you will have to use another carriers rom or a cooked rom. There are 2 official roms available, O2 UK and Dopod SEA, both are WWE (English). I use Tom's B&B v4.0 rom as it looks and feels the best and doesn't have any operator rubbish in it. In order to upgrade your rom to WM6 you will first need to CID (Carrier ID) unlock it as you have already discovered.
It is very easy to put the tmobile uk settings back in, there are plenty of cab files in this forum or the settings can be found on the web. If you really can't find them I have a cab file somewhere I can send you.
Regarding a release date for Toms B&B v4.1, Tom produces these roms as a hobby not a job, therefore you won't get a release date, just the rom when it is ready!

Phantom Alarm Bug
There is a reported issue of multiple alarms going off even though the alarm is turned off in Settings. There is no known permanent fix at this point.
Phantom alarms can be cleaned up by following these instructions:
1. Load SKTools Smartphone Edition (Clean up and uninstaller utility)
2. Select View -> Maintenance -> Notifications Queue
3. Scroll to the bottom of the list and there should be multiple entries already checked for “Clock.exe”.
4. Select Action -> Delete marked
5. Do a soft reset (turn off then back on).Helpful Applications and Add-ons

Is it wise to upgrade?

I have an unbranded TP2 with an original dutch ROM. I use TouchFlo all the time and I'm pretty happy with it (responsiveness, speed, etc). Sometimes I use an alternative GUI, like SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 with Sense le Revolution. I never use the Windows UI by itself. I deactivated push internet so as to win RAM. My normal RAM usage is about 35% and therfore my TP2 reacts crispy. With all this saisand written, is it wise to upgrade to WinMo 6.5? What do I win when I upgrade? Advice most welcome,
regards, Kuzibri
I'm sorry I can't answer your question as I haven't upgraded but can you tell me how you disabled Push Internet? Thanks
First of all, before asking questions use the search function of this forum.
If you had done that, then you would have found this thread:

Thanks for the advice Kuzibri.
Actually, I only just discovered what a "forum" was a few days ago, this is all totally new to me. Most of it is Chinese and like learning hyrogliphics. I'm an old man now and it's all so new... so thanks for the advice. I'll try to learn how to use the Search function now.

I upgraded to WM 6.5 when the HTC Official ROM (WWE version) became available. There are already several threads on the forum talking about people's experiences. For me personally the main gains were fixes to do with Microsoft Exchange-enforced security. I'll just quickly summarise my own experiences:
Positives:
1. Fixed the behaviour with going to Home Tab (when the Simple PIN security was active) every time the phone was turned on, and also when taking the phone away from your head to use the dialpad when in the middle of a call.
2. Fixed the wifi settings being lost on a weak signal.
3. Added cool-looking lock screen (which I actually like)
4. New "HTC Sense" version of TouchFLO - it's still Manila 2.1 but with added animated weather wallpaper, and location services (detects where you are and updates weather accordingly).
5. FM Radio is bundled as standard and it works. On WM 6.1 the FM Radio app that you could manually add in would get 'stuck' on a particular radio station. This does not happen on the WM 6.5 version.
Interesting:
1. New Hexagonal Start screen: Trying to get used to this still. The grid-style Start Menu for the WM 6.1 ROM is in a tab called 'Programs' now.
2. New behaviour with wifi: When set to 'on' in HTC's Communications manager, Wifi switches off in standby and connects again only when an app tries to access data. This can cause problems in Opera when it gets tired of waiting for wifi to connect and just times out, requiring a page refresh. See this thread on the new behaviour: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=571993
3. Windows Marketplace: I haven't used this enough to make a comment.
4. Microsoft My Phone: Installed but checks for an updated version and downloads that. You can do this on WM6.1 manually anyway.
Negatives
1. Memory usage is higher with the official WM 6.5 ROM, so deactivating Push Internet is a very good idea.
2. Apps seem to get 'killed' more easily and booted from running in the background than on the WM 6.1 Stock ROM even if there is fair amount of RAM left. See this Tilt2 thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=575663
3. Last Full Charge information does not work very well. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=571606
EDIT: Forgot some more points:
4. The WM6.5 ROM disables control over the which alerts flash the LED. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572054
5. Owner information requires a bit of fiddling around to get to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=571198
So basically, the WM 6.5 upgrade is not perfect, but it did fix a lot of things that I found very annoying with the original ROM. My advice is that if you're happy with your current set-up, there's no rush to upgrade. For me, the fixes were worth it.
Hi monomer888,
thank you very much for your elaborate answer.
regards, Kuzibri
Nice! Thank you so much for the detailed answer!
I have been waiting for Tmo to release their official 6.5 upgrade for sometime. I used WM6.5 on tmo wing in the past and honestly wasn't that impressed (and it was earlier builds too, and locks up all the time). The one advantage of the "official rom" by tmo is that it's stable. For the past 2 months I had my TP2 I may have soft reset twice due to the phone hanging in the middle of the day and that's it. No missing important phone calls in that nature. It's just stable.
Of course wm6.5 always have something to be desired, which is the new windows button and close button, but I'll wait till it fully matures.

Well, if I had more time to devote to my phone, I'd probably try a custom ROM on it. As it stands my phone functions well day-to-day and even with its faults, I love how the TP2 works.

NOTE : THIS IS NOT A TECHNICAL THREAD - THE REASON FOR THIS THREAD IS - TO REQUEST THE COOKS
Hi everybody,
Im a Diamond Lover and searching for its ROM's which is best suited to it. In my opinion WM 6.1 is the best one for Diamond. So far I tested nearly 40 ROMs (Wm 6.1 & Wm 6.5) and finally i sticked to MEMO Rom.

What are all the things do U need in a ROM
I start the list with my wish list.
1. Bug free
2. Faster
3. Graphic enhanced
4. More free memory (65% usage is ok)
5. CHT Enabled
6. Facebook TAB
7. Tweeter TAB
software should cooked with ROM are
1. GPS Cycle Computer
2. Google Maps
3. Clean ROM 2.2
4. PIM Backup
5. Nitrogen Player

As well as you can suggest the other users to test the ROMs u r using.

Classic Menu
I Like the Classic Menu in Sense 2.5 (Which is available in MEMO ROM) a nice one
transparent taskbar and softkey bar
Colored Notification icons
What about MAXSENSE - any opinions?
U asked
No GPS lag. Come on build a rom with radio if it fixes this issue. I have had no lag on a rom before but can't remember when or what it was. I had an acurate fix though.
Core player ( I know some cooks add this to their roms)
All images optimised (ALL of them even manilla/sense) Save a few meg for Apps
Cookies Home Tab (Awesome)

YES! Core Player & Cookies HT are some of the best i've ever seen
21 Votes and 13 in favour of WM 6.5. But i totally not agree with WM 6.5
The reasons are
1. WM 6.5 is not for Diamond
2. All WM 6.5 Rom-s are not error free
3. Absent of classic menu
but 13+ mmm
Is there any ROM with MAXSENSE?
(Memo ROM's next version may be?)

There's Energy Rom and another rom that i don't remember but was wm 6.1
65% of ram usage with sense 2.5 and CHT enabled..you had a nice dream this night
btw imho things like facebook app, google maps,fim,etc.. should not be cooked in,so everyone can install the latest version via CAB after flashing the rom.
Quick GPS
Total Commander
Opera mini
JAVA
MaxSense is nice but too much memory consuming
As far as I am concerned
- Bug Free
- Memory left (at least 30%, so I will be able to install TT)
- Tweeter & FaceBook tabs
- Weather and My Location working
- FRA or WWE
- SENSE 2.5
It should be smooth and efficient
I also like
- Phone Keypad, on SMS Writing.
- Fast Camera, taking photos.
It's very important!
