Just bought a car...
Added a little Brodit powered cradle for the Universal + GPS device.
Now I want to have it talk sexily to me through the car speakers... how might I go about doing this?
I've not really seen a car kit for the Jaguar XJ6, but I suppose this would be a good bet?
Thanks!
Ferg.
Hey, I've got a '97 Jag XJ, I had to make my carkit from separate bits. Don't have the Universal but Imate Jam- principle is the same I guess
Check out my post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=36123&highlight=
Charges my device as well as outputting all sound to car speakers.
Nice one sh,
Mine's a 97 too. Bloody nice beast.
I'll check out your instructions, although am I right in thinking this doesn't have a microphone or anything? I'm new to car kits etc so excuse my ignorance, but does this not hinder the thing a bit?
What does this setup NOT allow you to do?
Thanks again,
Ferg.
Well because I was too tight to buy a full carkit- I made my own (yes I do own the Jag- matter of principle for me!)
Well I've haven't spoken much about the audio side of things in that post... but all I've got is a 3.5mm to RCA cable going into the back of my car stereo.
There is also a 2.5 to 3.5mm adapter to accept the connection on the JAM. Now, you can get these adapters with built-in mics:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-5mm-to-3-5m...714269100QQcategoryZ14419QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I don't need it because I have my personal bluetooth kit when in car. So thats the only thing 'missing' if you like- although I've setup it up so I can change this adapter for any type that has 3.5mm on one end.
Send me a link to the holder that you've got- I take it doesn't have an audio out on it?
i made up my own too for the charmer, dont own a jag and havent wired it into the stereo but have stashed a set of "ipod" type speakers under the dash instead.
not wanting to play audio but just wanting to have handsfree use of phone and amplified audio from sat nav.
not running it through the sterao also means the missus and kids are happy with the radio/cd playing and i still get to hear the satnav guidance.
i bought a couple of incar mics and soldered the whole lot up onto a butchered wired headset (the one that came with the charmer)
details http://www.modaco.com/hardwired-incar-handsfree-the-diy-way-t240297.html
although i still havent got round to putting up pics yet
Any adaptors that will allow me to use proper 3.5 inch headphone jack in place of the mini USB ones ( i dont like the in ear phones) checked ebay and couldnt see anything?
you want get one of these http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=142090 - Mike
Ouch, that thing is both horribly badly designed and prohibitively expensive- it's going to stick out what looks like an inch by itself, most headphone plugs will add another inch on top of that- I need something that fits flush with the bottom of the phone (comes out at a right angle) AND supplies an input for the charger. One can only dream!
The orbit would make a great on-mains Wifi internet radio if such a gubbin existed- hook up some speakers, start TCPMP, sorted!
in which case if you don't like wires stop messing around and get a set of A2DP compatible headphones - the quality is very good, but far more costly than a cable addaptor - the choice is yours - Mike
Might have been worth while if I didn't use an iPod for all my portable audio needs- have you seen any A2DP compatible speakers around?
Looks like there are hacks out there, but no official products, the combination really would just turn the Orbit into an incredibly expensive Wifi radio! But where's the fun in just going out and buying a proper one!
Have a look at the products made by Parrot there are a few Bluetooth audio add on boxes, I fail to see the relevance to WiFi?? as the A2DP profile is Bluetooth - it even works on the T-Mobile MDA-CIII which has no WiFi - Mike
I say wifi radio because I listen to internet radio stations around the house using the Orbit, and the ol' tinternet comes via the wifi doohickey!
A2DP is, of course, a bluetooth profile and would be the method over which I get decent sounding audio from the Orbit to some speakers whilst still having the Orbit plugged into mains so the battery doesn't get sucked dry... that said I think the Orbit will last a good few hours streaming internet radio, although I have yet to put that to the test.
My other solution would be, as mentioned above, an adaptor that allows both the charger AND headset to be plugged in- I can't see this as being technically impossible.
With a brief cursory investigation I have discovered, I think, that the headset uses a proprietary 6-pin connection on the opposite side of the mini-usb connector. The headphones do not use the 4-pin standard mini-usb connector on the other side, but a connector that uses both should be reasonably simple to produce. Ergo it should be childs play for a third party to produce an Artemis dock that contains not only a connection to USB but a standard 3.5mm amplified microphone socket alongside a standard 3.5mm amplified stero audio jack... not to mention a button on the front of the dock for picking up calls and a volume slider if you really wanted them.
Call me crazy, but I want one of those!
You could try this

Might do the trick even if it is a bit long
Rich
Dear lord! You've made my day! Hmmm, a little jiggery pokery and I might even be able to incorporate that into a dock but it'll be fantastic for charging and listening to net radio at work- takes that little extra load off my desktop PC.
Cheers!
Glad I could help

Hi,
Does anyone know if the above would work with a set of mini stereo speakers with a 3.5mm headphone jack (like the walkman speakers i used to have, back in the day...) to listen to the FM radio while charging the phone from mains? Or would you still need the headphones plugged into get any FM reception?
Daft question maybe, but I wondered whether the device would just use the speaker wires as an antenna instead of the headphone wires?
It will work fine, I am going to use mine to connect my orbit to my home stereo and charge it at the same time.

2.5mm 3 pole jack plug
Hi,
Anybody know of an Artemis mini usb to 2.5mm 3 pole jack plug adapter which allows the connection to deliver audio and microphone capability ?
I would like to connet my Artemis/Orbit to the Autocom intercom system on my motorcycle . This uses a lead with a 2.5mm jack plug at the phone end and a 3.5mm jack at the Autocom system end. Both are 3 pole.
Thanks
P.S. hope you don't mind me jumping in your postings

Is this so you can listen to music from the Orbit? I've had difficulty on my bike with this...music cuts out and wont restart after phone call is over. In the end, I bought the Autocom bluetooth dongle and now bluetooth the Orbit to the bike. I get phone calls and GPS just fine, but I use a wired iPod for music.

Does this support the Artemis? It isn't in the list....
There was a posting for the mini USB PinOut some Time ago. Look in the wiki Section to find it. Here is what they showed up with.
Maybe This will Help someone to build their own Adapter or whatsoever.
Greetings
Jabami
so what was the general concensus with using Autocom? Did the 2.5mm jack work?
I want to avoid using the bluetooth option on autocom, since I might just as well go for a Scala bluetooth headset instead if the jack doesnt work...

$80 is WAY too much for this. You can accomplish the same thing with a $20 BT3030 adapter, or any headphone adapter.
Here's a tip:
Grab one of these and one of these, and you'll never know the difference.
i just bought one on these and i'm liking it. Maybe it can be done cheaper but I know this works well.

It will let you stream to anything with an audio input.
EDIT: I'll have a full blown write up on this method in a few weeks hopefully. I'm waiting on a bunch of parts to come in and I'm hooking mine and my father's car up.
That doesn't look like it charges and outputs at the same time. The scosche appears to do this.

I just used that as an example as how cheap you can go. Personally, I'm making a cable that does both.
If you want one that charges and plays at the same time out of the box, try this for 20 bucks:
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Jabra-BT303...uetooth_Wireless_Products&hash=item4aa3833d38
It's the Jabra BT3030. One end is the audio output (which plugs into your audio input) and the mini USB port is on the other for charging.
Looks awesome but quality of sound is probably ****...
How is bluetooth sound quality now adays. I listen to flac, which is lossless audio, so if it isn't really good - great sound quality wise I will just keep using a 3.5mm cable.
I'm not an audio expert (nor is my ear sensitive enough to pick up subtle differences), but I definitely wouldn't call bluetooth audio ****. I can't tell the difference between the bluetooth connection and wired connection. I've heard accounts saying flac sounds beautiful through bluetooth, but then again audio is something that has always been subjective.
Thanks for your opinion, i appreciate you taking the time to respond
I got a motorocker or something like that yesterday at walmart. It was like 90 bucks regularly on clearance for 60, but i got an extra good deal on it.
When i get my evo back I'll post my opinion on it. I have audiophilistic ears lol. It also fm modulates, so i know frequency is going to limited on the upper end to 16kish. But much over 16k doesn't contain much musical content depending on what you are listening to anyways.
Not that great over FM, glad i didn't pay much for it. I am sure the device you listed would sound very good though as it goes through a regular aux port instead of fm modulation. There didn't appear to be any bluetooth related noise, just fm garbage.
I bought a new Sony desk (BT2800) with Bluetooth built-in, and the quality is near flawless. It seems like I actually have less distortion than when it was physically plugged in. There was a ground short or something when I had it plugged in to charge and to the aux input ( but you only could notice if u turn the volume up with nothing playing). I don't know if that's with all cars or just my older car.
scl23enn4m3, you don't know what you are talking about. I hope people don't follow your ****ty advice.
First of all, that BT thing you linked to on ebay does not charge and stream at the same time. It has been covered in the comments section on dealextreme.
Second, I have yet to find any bluetooth reciever that I can add to my stock stereo system that will auto-pair. Auto pairing is a huge deal. If you have to screw around with the bluetooth settings on your phone every time you turn your car on, you might as well plug in the damn aux cable.
I am excited to check this product out.
so mine came in i couldnt get out of my car lol
i think im going to buy one for my home surround sound so i can stream music from laying in bed from my phone (my best tunes are always on my phone even though i have a 2tb and home server running boxee setup on my tv)
But seriously this motormouth btaxs is amazign (for you cheapskates out there stick to your long wires or jerryrigged stuff and leave this toy for those who want it all done right without soldeign and running wires all over)
Yes it charges while in use (I have mine plugged in all the time now and i have it setup so once i put my evo in my dock it auto ons my bluetooth and connects automatically to it)
call quality is good i just tested in loud car on speakerphone and no reverb and works flawless with one button touch then speak the name u want to call
love the damn thing i cant wait to go to work i use my phone all day while driving around and havign to plug in two wires everytime i get in and out was askign too much
now only need one wire and thats if my battery is dead ill add pics in a bit

Too bad my '07 Porsche 911 doesn't have a Aux/MP3 input jack.
Woo-Hoo!
Ordered mine from Hawk Electronics on Wednesday night - showed up on the front doorstep today (it helps that their warehouse is here in DFW).
This thing is amazing. Sound quality for music over BT far surpasses what I was getting via 3.5mm jack, and there's no 25% sound reduction just because you docked. In combination with my Sprint car dock, this is just exactly what I've been waiting for. Cool thing about car dock mode: it turns on BT, GPS, and 4G when you dock. It paired without issue, and it fires up the second I dock it in the car.
I used the extension thingy for the microphone, because my AUX port is over on the passenger side in my Element.
Road trip tomorrow.
Here'sa pic comes with charging cable too with car adapter

Ok so my gf just got the GSII and she is having a problem. She uses an aux cord in her car to plug in her phone so that it goes through the speakers. When she plugs this phone in and makes a phone call, the person on the other end cannot hear her, but she can hear the other end.
Has anyone seen this before and do you have any fixes????
THANKS!
yeah i have this problem too in my car, but when im in my friend's car its fine

hmm that is not what I wanted to hear lol
That really doesnt make any sense at all, it should be the same as its just an aux port. I had her try it with computer speakers and it was the same.
It could be that you had used a bad designed audio cable. If you look at the original headphone that came with the phone, the plug has 3 parts to it (Ground, Sound, and Mic). So it could be that the no good audio cable is taking in the Mic side as well, therefore the other party is not hearing her.
If you really want this mixed 100% without worrying about the type of cable. I suggest you buy a cable with a mic on it with aux in. I am sure you can find one on monoprice.com/amazon/ebay.
Good Luck
On my WFS jack connector jumps out about 1mm... it is big problem because it stop playing music. WHY? Does somebody have same problem?
Sent from my Wildfire S (root, cwm..)
i used to get this ALOT if i just use my standard headphones directly into the socket. even if it doesn't "pop out", the slightest movement of the headphone jack would cause it to "disconnect" and stop playing music.....VERY annoying.
I managed to "fix" it by simply buying, a cheap as chips headset adapter on amazon. I have no idea why this works, as the plug on the end looks identicle to the one on my headphones, but for some reason, if i use my headphones i get disconnects.....if i use the wired headset adapter then plug my headphones into that it works. no more disconnects.
like i said, no idea WHY this is the case, but it worked for me. i juse bought the cheapest one i could find, i think it was around £2 on amazon.

if your using the original headset, i would do as stated above or:
go back to the shop and ask a refund or repair.
if your using your own headphones:
try using your headphones in other devices (pc, mp3 player) and see if it does the same, if not contact the company where you bought your wfs if you still have warrenty, i would not accept this kind of hardware failure.
good luck with your headphones
GLORIS:
Well, i have Razer Electra headphones... it have support for HTC (mic on wire, 4-pin jack)
JACK ON BOTH, ELECTRA AND ORIGINAL HTC EARPHONES ARE SAME SIZE!!!
my theory: magnetic??? your jack from amazon is magnetic, check this now please
VitanyLTD:
phone is ok, original earphones from HTC connect perfect but others not.
YEP! HTC earphone JACK CONNECTOR IS MAGNETIC, SO WE NEED MAGNETIC 4-pin JACK CONNECTORS!!!!
best will be reduction JACK MALE 4pin to JACK FEMALE 4pin
AFTER THIS I HATE HTC FOR HARDWARE SUPPORT!
Looks my orginal htc headset is not orginal or something cus same thing happening to me.
that's a negative on the magnetism front :s
as I sayd... and headset adapter is magnetic?
no, neither the headset nor the headphones are magnetic. I can genuinely see absolutely no difference between the two plugs, but one works, one doesn't :s
then i don't know.
I to have problems with 3.5mm in car its loose any slight movement will turn off music. i will find an adapter to.
I need JACK 3.5mm 4pin reduction for my headphones.. On cable I have mic...
can somebody find it JACK 3.5mm 4pin male to JACK 3.5mm 4pin female? I can't find anything...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110760294384
just ordered this. according to the listing there are 3 in the pack, and that's only around £2.70. So if it works out well, and anyone in the uk wants one I should have 2 spare when they arrive, just let me know if you want one and you can have it. I'll try it out first when they get here though. From the description, it sounds like it takes the 3.5mm 4 pin (with headset) and converts it to 3.5mm 3 pin (normal headphones). So it should be perfect if you don't want use of a mic/headset.
My headset cable adapter works well to be fair, but the extra cable does make thigns a bit unmanageable, so hopefully this adapter will work out a bit better
I had the same problem. After trying different headphones, I decided to take a small slotted screw driver.
Just stick it into the slot and turn it a few times without too heavy pressure and now everything works nice!

Haha...yeah, that's how I deal with my problems xD
No seriously, I was really worried before I did it but it worked out fine!
those plugs for headphones 'felt' cheap the first time i plugged my headphones... they rly have little something that stops you from plugging propperly so you just roll it few times, i did it with my hp-s...just roll and push a bit... and i smiled just how u did it with screwdriver xD
but the main thing is, that it works... you guys decide: screwdriver or headphones jack xD
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
I personally would go for a screwdriver and a hammer...
EDIT: I had that problem with a pair of Creative EP630 in-ear headphones (cheap eBay copy).
Since I bought my Sony MDREX-50LP (guaranteed original) never had that issue.
The sound with Poweramp is absolutely FANTASTIC.
Was so Angry when I first found this problam, I listen to a lot of music. I twisted the Headphone jack a couple of times and Voila!
Thank you Wfbml + b02!
Now I can enjoy my SteelSeries Siberia V2's as well as my Hi-Fi on my WFS!
Yes, I do have the Beats "Mod" Installed.
YES!!!
Sorry for digging up an old topic but I just had to say thank you so much for the screw driver fix : it worked like a charm and I can finally make use of my music again!
