Can I switch a rooted EVO to a different number on my Sprint account? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to move the EVO to my main cell phone number on my account and switch my old Pre to the number the EVO currently has. My concern is if I root and then take my phone to Sprint to have them do the switch on my account will I have an issue with a Rooted EVO?

You should be able to switch them over the phone. No need to go in.

all you need to do is call sprint and have them do it without walking into the sprint store..all they need is the serial number of the phone and the hex number, and that should be allowing you to activate to a different line.

I had a rooted samsung moment, and wanted the evo but didnt necessarily want to pay full price for it. A friend of mine (who really liked my phone) was getting a new contract with sprint, so i told him to get the evo, and then I would trade him my Moment for the evo, plus give him some cash. He liked the idea, so we went to sprint and set everything up, basically switching my phone number to the evo, and his old number to my samsung moment.
No problems at all, although the sprint rep gave me a funny look when he saw my custom boot animation. I'm glad they didnt get a good look at my sd card lol

Yes, we've done it many times switching our flashed TP, rooted HERO, and now rooted EVO around on our 3 lines. Just make sure to use the DEFAULT dialer when they want you to run the ##3282# code. That's the only 1 I can get to work with the codes.

you can even do it online through sprint.com... it may not be as easy if you are using a custom rom though.. sometimes you need to press stuff like *533534# and stuff like that and if using a custom rom that wont always work.. but if rooted is all youve done you should be good

I was able to swap my rooted hero's line with my stock evo's line. I did it over the phone.

Sprint question

i have a hero on a line under my gf......i went today to get a new line for myself and got the evo.....im gonna end up using this line as a work phone thing is i dont wanna get my new evo messed up at work i wanna use my old hero thing is i dont wanna have to give everyone my new number if im still gonna have that number anyway........how do i switch phone numbers?
Call *2 on your phone. Sprint employs support staff with access to assign phone numbers.
Once you get the EVO, call Sprint Customer Service and tell them you want to switch the phones between the two numbers. I did the same thing when I bought my EVO using my daughters upgrade.
Moved top Q&A as question.

[Q] Passing my rooted DINC down question

Hi All,
I have rooted DINC with Skyraider 4.3. My son dropped his Eris and broke the screen. I am thinking of moving to the TBolt as an early upgrade. Question is, when I move his number to my DINC (*228) will it reprogram or do I need to return to complete stock?
it will not reprogram. calling in and giving them the MEID to the phone to associate to your son's number and then doing the *228 should be enough to activate and you'll still have skyraider 4.3.
SWEET!!! Thanks, I was sweating it.

You don't even need to call in anymore to do an ESN swap. If he upgrades to the Tbolt, that will leave the DINC "empty" of service. So he can just dial *228 on the DINC, choose option 1, and input his son's phone number (and the password to the account I believe), and it will switch over and program to his phone.
I actually got a Verizon rep to activate a very obviously rooted dInc for my girlfriend. He just couldn't figure out why it didn't have that Verizon backup assistant to transfer the phone book. It was running a Sprint derived ROM at the time.
When I activated my incredible I didn't have time to flash back to stock, but since I told the rep I bought it off ebay he told me that they had installed "off brand" software on it, and i played dumb.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Yeah i did that too and it worked. More like bending the truth
Woot! Was gonna say. All I did was Call and found out I can do it all over the internet for Verizon.
When I had mine transferred I told the guy up front it was rooted. He switched it, no questions asked. He even showed it to the manager who wanted to see how well it worked. When I got my Tbolt I told him I intended to have it rooted before the day was done. The manager wanted me to bring it back to see how that worked out. I've had really positive experiences with Verizon and my rooted devices.

[Q] gift EVO 4g rooted...but ESN transfer via SPrint issues....

Hello Gentlemen and Ladies.
I was recently given a rooted Sprint HTC EVO 4G.
I bowed down and kissed the ground in thanks.
We, my benefactor, and I went post haste to the Sprint Store to get my number transferred over on to my miraclulous new device.
This went fine. We got the number swapped to the new phone, BUT
driving home we realized that it actually did not work.
So we called sprint tech support and after a long difficult conversation we realized they could not assist us.
Im asking you Kings and Queens of the Evo 4G.....is there a way I can get a rom that will allow Sprint tech support to assist me in getting my phone set up properly?
and WHICH of the 9jillion roms should i flash to?
Thank you in advance from a sparkly new noob who is worthy of nothing but contempt.
For ease of use for them activating it, just flash a stock rom, preferrably the latest one. Then once it's fully activated, you can flash another rom you like. Technically you should be able to activate it with any sense rom, but again, to make it easy for you and sprint just flash a stock one.
I agree, I would flash a stock rom that does not unroot your phone:

Clone Samsung Juke using HTC Incredible

I'm new, but I have scoured the site and can't find what I'm looking for.
I have a Samsung Juke with a Verizon Wireless plan. I have a spare HTC Incredible that I want to replace the Juke with. Unfortunately when I talked to Verizon they said that if I switch to the Android, I have to purchase the data plan. I'm cheap, and I don't want the data plan as I have WiFi wherever I would need data.
I have already rooted and ROMed the phone using ClockworkMod 5.02, and Stock+.
Is it possible to configure the Incredible to clone the Juke, and just turn Cell data off?
If so, how?

I have mine activated with pageplus. Same network (prepaid coverage) and way cheaper
If I understand it correctly, you should be able to switch phones without getting a data plan, as long as you don't buy a subsidized phone (2 yr contract). Go to a store and tell them u just wanna switch phones, and don't have any need for data. This may have changed with their new data rules. If they FORCE you to use a data plan to get mobile access on a phone you own, that's a scam and you should switch to something like what funone46, pageplus
I appreciate the thought to switch to another carrier/plan, however I am situated with a 2 year contract that is up in October this year. Then I'll switch the Incredible to Boost and all will be well. In the meantime, I'd like to swap the Incredible in for the Juke, but I need to know if I can situate the Incredible to receive the calls and texts that would normally hit the Juke.
I know I can do this with the Incredible in place of a Samsung Incognito on Boost, but can I do this with the Incredible in place of a Samsung Juke on Verizon?

It is probably possible, but im not very familiar with it. You would have to use qpst to grab the esn and settings from the juke, and then use qpst to put the esn and settings on the incredible. I think i know how to do it in theory, but have never actually done so and am not positive if it would even work.
As I said before, I'm new. So I'm not familiar with QPST. I've already downloaded the installation files, but the screen shots look a bit complicated and I wanted to consult before I ventured that far. If I had someone giving me key assistance, I'm game to try it out. As I've said before, the Incredible is an extra phone, so I don't care about screwing it up.
I would be very grateful if you could give me a step by step, even in theory, but if you aren't comfortable, is there someone that you recommend?

They deflashed my flashed BoostMobile EVO4G

Ok so I know I did the ultimate no-no with a flashed phone. BoostMobile tech support tried to update my profile. I know I shouldn't have done this. I called both Sprint and BoostMobile tech support for help. My Sprint EVO 4G, flashed to Boost, was being blocked by my boyfriend's Sprint Airave. This is the 2nd EVO4G I have had flashed to boost. The first one (lost forever!) was flashed for over a year, we had the airave then too with no conflict issues. Lost phone. Bought new one (sprint) had it flashed. Now it tries to use the airave.
Differences:: New phone is rooted with Synergy RLS1. Old one was not rooted and had stock ROM on it.
New issues:: CONSTANT notifications about voice mail update. (never had that before). Attempting any kind of call results in error from Airave. I understand WHY! I just want to Stop the BOOST-SPRINT communication and make calls like I did before.
Anyway, I told them the AIRAVE problem, and told them I had custom ROM, ROOT and FLASHED phone they said "No Problem! We know what to do". they screwed the phone up and then accidentally dropped the call. So here I am after days of searching, reading, contemplating, still without phone service. Booting the phone results in loop of ATTEMPTING HANDS FREE ACTIVATION. and many times while on. Under settings, System Updates if I click on update profile it says.....Previous DM session is working now please try again later.
Will I have to go through the whole flash process again? Since I just did this 3-4 weeks ago there isn't much I need to save on the phone. I have all the versions and settings numbers from the phone but just didn't know which ones to post.
Frustrated, Aggravated and Completely out of touch with the world!!!
I would have never gotten to days. After a few hours of no success, I would have just started over

yes I do appreciate the advice. And in moving forward that is the best choice.
Also in moving forward I am hoping that some of the senior members might have comments as to why the almost identical phone was now being blocked by the sprint Airave and getting the constant Sprint notifications of updated voice mail. Surely there is a way to shield the phone from the airave. Other than calling Sprint (no results) or calling Boost ( wrong results) someone has to have figured out a way to stop this.
Any speculations, suggestions, or comments?
What kind of donor phone did you use to flash the Evo?

That I do not know. I have not been able to reach the person who flashed the phone. I will ask that when I reach them. btw I have the original boost phone that was associated with my account before I flashed the first time. That was the donor then, I think. And I was thinking that I should re-register that phone before I flash back again with this 2nd phone. Is that thinking a valid thought?

I found the type of phone. I logged in under my account and it says the current phone is Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito. I can use the account to change the the phone back to my original handset that I used for years and was the handset I used to fllash to the first EVO I had.

Yeah, I was gonna say, anytime you need to know what donor phone was used to flash your phone..just log into your Boost account and click on "Update Handset" this will tell you exactly what phone is on your account aka used as your donor phone. It will almost always be either the Incognito or Rant. ((But anyone thinking of flashing a phone, should never have this problem because you should always have physical possession of the donor used on your account..there is not one single reason why the person flashing your phone would need to hold on to your donor. Period. So always make sure that you ask for , and receive the donor phone used to activate your Sprint phone)))
That being said...Unfortunately, your phone is going to need reflashed again, and you definitely did not need to activate the previous donor on to your Boost account. You just needed to contact the person who flashed your phone and (hopefully) he still has your donor phone and will be able to pull your passwords (profile info ) out of it again and write it to your Sprint phone. (Like you already seem to be aware of) when your profile was reset, that meant that it did not match what was on your flashed Sprint phone. You'll need to (first activate the donor that was on your account before you just switched it to your previous one) and then update the profile (on that donor) and then put it on your Evo and you'll be good as new...OR just reflash your phone all together with the donor that you just activated on the account.
As far as the Voicemail Update issue...I have noticed this being pushed constantly to the Sprint phones also(including my Evo LTE on Boost) , I honestly don't believe there is a way to stop it. It doesn't really bother me anymore it just sits in the notification tray all the time. I imagine that eventually Sprint will stop pushing it to their phones. If I do ever come up with a fix for it though I will be sure to try and look this thread up or pm you with it. Good luck with getting your Evo back online...and word to the wise..never call Boost for anything if you have a flashed phone on your account...First off they will trouble shoot it as if its the donor phone..Second, their standard protocol is to Update the profile, and/or Factory reset the phone, either of which will interrupt the service on your flashed Sprint phone.
