Sprint question - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have a hero on a line under my gf......i went today to get a new line for myself and got the evo.....im gonna end up using this line as a work phone thing is i dont wanna get my new evo messed up at work i wanna use my old hero thing is i dont wanna have to give everyone my new number if im still gonna have that number anyway........how do i switch phone numbers?

Call *2 on your phone. Sprint employs support staff with access to assign phone numbers.

Once you get the EVO, call Sprint Customer Service and tell them you want to switch the phones between the two numbers. I did the same thing when I bought my EVO using my daughters upgrade.

I would have to say it is for emergency use only since cloning an ESN is highly ILLEGAL.
2 examples of this kind of emergency:
You are a Sprint customer and you have an older device, say a 6700 or Mogul, and you want to buy a Touch but do not want to extend your contract so you buy a new Touch on eBay only to find out that the ESN is bad or black listed or something like that. You are now royally PI$$ED because your new investment turns out to be a waste of your money and an expensive paperweight.
Another example of this coming into use: You already have a Touch with Sprint but you, like me, have the worst luck in existence and dropped your very expensive investment in the toilet while relieving yourself. You try as hard as you can to get it to work again but like I said, your luck sucks and the device just won't power back on. You buy a new Touch on eBay only to find out the ESN is bad and you got royally fu**ed by whoever sold you the phone because now you can't get a hold of this person and eBay won't do anything.
This is when this comes in handy. Now you can clone your 6700, Mogul, or Touch's ESN to your new phone with the bad ESN so that now it has a good clean ESN. Be careful with this though. If Sprint ever found out you did this you could be prosecuted and lose your right to own a wireless phone for a long time, regardless of carrier.

The main reason anyone is going to want to do this is to steal other customer's ESNs and their phone number, and thus.... FREE CELL PHONE USAGE!!!
The other thing that happens, if you steal another person's ESN and phone number, you can receive all of the calls that are placed to their cell phone.
This isn't the 90's
If you clone a phone as soon as both phones register in the HLR with two different locations they will be flagged as fraud.
The main thing this is good for is replacing hardware on the sly.
ok so if i say want to use my mogul instead of my touch when i go camping as a router for my psp Then I just have to make sure the touch is off before booting the mogul correct ??
Another reason...
You are looking for that replacement phone (after you dropped yours and it hit the ground perfectly to snap the main board). You find a decent price on a Touch on eBay. After getting it, you realize how big an idot you were (buying a Sprint CDMA phone when your network is GSM). You figure, I'll give it to my wife who is on VZW. You go to the web page and enter the ESN...no luck. Call, no luck. Have them do the DMD thing...no luck here either. So then you figure it is your only option. Oh well, I can't bring myself to clone the ESN anyway. Guess I'll put it back on eBay and see if anyone else wants it.

I clone phones all the time with full legal permission. The myth that the phone will be flagged is false. I clone phones that belong to wanted fugitives, so I can monitor inbound phone calls and text messages. All I need is min , mdn, and esn. 9 out 10 times the mdn is the min.
Try making outgoing calls on one of those cloned phones and see what happens.
was anyone able to do this? I tried this on my touch and it doesn't work. after using the command rtask c, then when opening up cdma workshop, i can't connect to the phone using any com port. i tried connecting with all 25 port, none of them worked. can anyone help here?
I cloned a touch to my moguls esn about a month ago and everything worked fine untill today. I only had one phone powered on at one time, never had both of them on at same time. today my data won't worked on my cloned touch but will work on my mogul. They both have the same settings. Any ideas whats going on?
Cloned ESN
Can this method be used to purchase a Sprint Diamond, change the ESN to a Verizon Wireless Touch, and activate the superior Sprint Diamond on Verizon Wireless? I really want a Diamond but I'm on VZW and dont want the watered down version they're getting
I have a question about this.
I recently bought a HTC Sprint Touch Diamond, and so now I have a vogue sitting around. My g/f has MetroPCS (CDMA) and has a really beat phone, and I want to give her the Vogue.
The problem is MetroPCS will not open its network to PDA / PocketPC / Smartphones apparently. So if I cloned the ESN off her phone, and put that ESN on my old Vogue, would it work, or do I need the carrier configuration files (which there are none for MetroPCS).
Thanks guys!
Edit: got it mostly working, no net yet but getting closer...
I can't get cdma to read my phone. It connects but won't read.

1. After you do rtask c, make sure to install the drivers.
2. Make sure you are on the correct COM settings. (see device manager if you are not sure which com)

ya this what I want to do, different carriers, but same idea, use my touch esn info and put it on a diamond, would like a how to on this.
Please correct me if I am wrong. Could this be used to make a phone call from my own phone, but have it show up as coming from a different phone?
A friend of mine has the iphone and found a program to do this and is convinced that only the iphone is capable of this feat. I would like to show him that this isn't true. Perhaps my reasoning is somewhat immature, but what the heck!
okay, so lets say I get this working and decide that I might want to get rid of the phone that I just cloned. How can I delete the cloned esn so its clean again? And will this method work for ANY phone, or only the touch?

Can I switch a rooted EVO to a different number on my Sprint account?

I want to move the EVO to my main cell phone number on my account and switch my old Pre to the number the EVO currently has. My concern is if I root and then take my phone to Sprint to have them do the switch on my account will I have an issue with a Rooted EVO?
You should be able to switch them over the phone. No need to go in.

all you need to do is call sprint and have them do it without walking into the sprint store..all they need is the serial number of the phone and the hex number, and that should be allowing you to activate to a different line.
I had a rooted samsung moment, and wanted the evo but didnt necessarily want to pay full price for it. A friend of mine (who really liked my phone) was getting a new contract with sprint, so i told him to get the evo, and then I would trade him my Moment for the evo, plus give him some cash. He liked the idea, so we went to sprint and set everything up, basically switching my phone number to the evo, and his old number to my samsung moment.
No problems at all, although the sprint rep gave me a funny look when he saw my custom boot animation. I'm glad they didnt get a good look at my sd card lol
Yes, we've done it many times switching our flashed TP, rooted HERO, and now rooted EVO around on our 3 lines. Just make sure to use the DEFAULT dialer when they want you to run the ##3282# code. That's the only 1 I can get to work with the codes.
you can even do it online through sprint.com... it may not be as easy if you are using a custom rom though.. sometimes you need to press stuff like *533534# and stuff like that and if using a custom rom that wont always work.. but if rooted is all youve done you should be good
I was able to swap my rooted hero's line with my stock evo's line. I did it over the phone.

[Q] Inc - Can't use Page Plus...

Good morning,
I have a Droid Incredible, along with quite a few other Android phones. I previously used this phone on Page Plus. About a year ago I moved it's phone number to an Eris to give it to my Dad and it's been in a drawer ever since. I decided last week to reactivate on Page Plus and can't get it reactivated. It only sends and receives TXT, impossible to place a phone call.
To determine if this was a phone issue, I tried to activate two other phones (Moto and LG feature phones) and they do the exact thing. I think it is a problem in this market. I even tried to activate a Seattle number. Every time I attempt to make a call, it rings in short rings then goes "beep, beep, beep" and hangs up. I have spent countless hours talking to Page Plus and they just end the conversation that "this is an unsupported phone". So Page Plus appears to not work for me.
Sooooo....... I am also on i-Wireless Home (a Sprint MVNO) with a Hero. Good phone, slow but it gets the job done. I would like to replace it with the Inc. Possible? I did some searches and found some old threads (like 6) people asking about running on Sprint. They are over a year old. Has anyone got any thoughts on what is going on with Page Plus, or suggestions of another Verizon MVNO I can use to get the Incredible operational? Right now, it's just a feature rich PDA. Would like to be able to at least make a phone call on it.
I bring this question here only because the PP community has no idea what's wrong.
Cheers,
thom
Being an ex-PPC rep I can tell you from experience that the reps hands truly are tied in these situations. I'd recommend ensuring the device's NAM is programmed correctly (MDN, MIN, AND SID). does dialing *22890 change any of those values to something incorrect? Are you hearing any authentication issues? Did the rep contact WTS (known now as ODTS)? Although PPC specifically may not support the device other MVNOs may meaning wholesale support may be able to look into it further. Try submitting a support ticket or speaking to a tier one rep

I'm on PP+ with my D Inc and no problems at all. Go over to KittyWireless and shoot them an email and ask if they'd heard of this before and try to enlist their help.
(note: I am in no way affiliated with Kitty, I've been lurking for a few months now and registered last night to thank Jermaine with his Stock+ rom so that's why it's my first post )
I am SOOOO happy to report that my Incredible is finally on Page Plus. I have been working with Kitty, but they couldn't fix my problem.
Final solution was to call PPC for the 8th time and have them ESN swap to a device they had in house, activate, place the first call, then ESN swap back to me. I am now up and running, and couldn't be happier
Then again, I got upgraded with my company phone today to an AT&T Moto Atrix, so now I'm off to root that sucker

Glad you got it worked out and too bad Kitty couldn't figure it out.....I love them.

One phone to the other....

OK, long story short. My wife and I both have HTC Evo 4gs that we had flashed over to metro pcs. Yes, they were bad esn, owing sprint money still. Now I am going to be traveling extensively for work, and cannot rely on the extremely limited service MEtroPcs has to offer. I will be switching to Boost. Like wise, my wifes phone has been seriously bugging out, to no avail. My question, with both of the phones being flashed, is it possible to switch her account info and number over to my phone ?? Metro had told us at one point that they couldnt assign me a new number because of the flashing, but this isnt quite the same

[Q] Sprint to Cricket

Hi all:
first post here
I just got a Sprint S3 with cracked screen and bad esn for $95 and the screen still works
I had to spend $25 on gas to get it so i guess total = $120 but still not bad
Anyhow i see lots of tuts and videos on how to go from Sprint to Cricket but almost all of them say to use your cricket phone number.
I dont have cricket in my area but where my sister lives she does which is a couple states away from me.
Anyhow i not sure if im gonna make a deal with her or not but that is what originally got me looking in this direction as i usually use skype over wifi but mainly i switch to GV over wifi and it works really good with groove ip
ANYHOW
how do i go about following those tutorials on changing phone from sprint to cricket when i dont actually have any of that data to put in since i dont have a cricket phone with cricket service so if the next person that actually got the phone with cricket service could have it programmed for their area and have it work correctly?
thanks
What's the value if it has a cracked screen? FYI the screen on the s3 is about 300 to replace and you can get a new one on craigslist for that. Anyways see WWW.cricket users.com for instructions on flashing they have all the tutorials you need.

No if its only the screen and not the digitizer it can be replaced for $30 in 15 mins by the right person.

did anyone actually even read my the original post that started this thread (that replied in this thread)
people answered how to or not to fix my screen more then anything else
i have read and followed the tutorials on how to flash from sprint to cricket
that is not my Q
how do you do it when you dont have cricket service (cricket phone number)?
what would i enter as my cricket phone number (if i was going to send it to my sister in kansas) so it would be almost all ready for her to start using it without her telling me any of her info?
thanks
just want it to be ready to use like a normal person with cricket service who had bought this phone off ebay and wants to activate with cricket.
im not saying i want to sell it yet as i just got it but im sure some day within next 6months i might or i might make a deal with my sister so if anyone buys the phone and wants to activate with cricket i would like it to be painless as possible
see if i had cricket service i am sure i could cdma tool and enter everything i need to get it working but if it goes to someone new i am sure they will just want to activate like normal and without entering a (cricket) phone number in those tutorials with cdma tool would it make it hard for the next person to activate it on cricket?
would they be able to do it over the phone with cricket or could they take that newly flashed phone in to cricket and they would be able to get it done?
hope someone understands what im saying
if it was for me (and i currently had cricket) im sure that would be easy because i know the web and these tools
what happens when a person gets these phones and dont know any of that stuff?
is it treated just like a regular cricket phone when you take it in their shop?
