Difference between all the froyo roms? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Im new to the "rooted scene" and im just wondering how you can tell the difference between all the froyo roms that have been released?
As they all have camera , a2sd and video camera and the new ui.......
anyone care to explain or point out difference?
because to me they all look the same

Check the Changelog notes of each rom and then you will be able to differentiate between the various rom versions. All Froyo roms have pretty much the same features, it just depends on what you are looking for.

can somone who makes roms setup one that actually shows 1x

as the title says i hate when my phone is acting slow to have to goto the test menu to see if I am on 1x or EVDO.....
is it somehow possible to make it so that it does not just show 3g all the time in a custom rom???
Thanks for any answers in advance

(Rom)Ava-FroyoV1-Sense+2.2 Froyo
I am currently running this Rom and it does exactly that. (Tells you Evdo, 1x etc)
BEWARE! This is Android 2.2 (Froyo) which has a lot of bugs and things not working. (No Rear Camera, No MMS, 4G, Android Market is screwed up, etc.)
"Word on the street" is that soon, (next couple of days or maybe even tonight) there are going to be new Froyo ROMS that will fix many of these issues.
so by tonight it being released you mean this AVA rom should be updated or you mean in general some new code is being released on froyo????
I use my camera daily lol and it takes to long to NAND between rom's to snap a photo of the kiddo on the fly!!!

probably referring to CyanogenMod 6 it should top any of the froyo roms here IMO
There are a few Froyo ROMS out right now. Differences between them are that some concentrate on speed, user experience, etc. etc. some run Sense and some don't.
At the race right now:
Two different Developers, each has their own Froyo ROM:
Avalaunchmods - Ava (Sense)
Cyanogen - CM6 (AOSP... (no Sence) I believe?)
Both of them will be releasing their own ROM that allegedly fixes many of the Froyo issues we are currently experiencing. Cyanogen posted on Twitter that his CM6 might be going live tonight on the nightly builds for Evo..
Ava has also stated that he too will be releasing an update soon...

TV Out Question

Hi there,
I was wondering if any ROMs disable the TV out function from the usb port. I couldn't seem to find any threads on this but I heard somewhere that some might not support that.
Just wanted to make sure and sorry if there is a thread on this already.. I may fail as searching.
I don't think any roms support TV out except for some froyo sense roms.

Thanks for the quick reply! Would anyone happen to know which ones? It seems Warm Z does. I am super new to this and was hoping I could use a Sense port for the horizontal home screens.
I guess I could always just load one up and try it..
skyraider does. I think all the froyo sense roms do.
I'm hoping when the GB OTA comes out that the non-sense roms will support this as well as 720p camera.

I've been searching through *all* the Incredible Gingerbread ROM's and none of them have the TV out application. Since most are based upon leaked ROM's, it appears that none of the leaks include the apk's required.
If you want TV out, you have to stick with Froyo for now until the official RUU or OTA come out with the TV out app.

[Q] What ROM?

Hi,
I'm usually a LG Optimus Speed user but my friend got a HTC Desire. He's not that much into updating ROMs and stuff and atm he is on one of the latest official cm7 nightlys.
Now that he is here we want him to get a new ROM but as I can see there are so much of them out there and I just wanted to ask you if you could give me an advice in what ROM could be good for him. It shouldnt be a build with lots of bugs and stuff cause he can't update it etc. It should be stable and working fine without difficult tweaks etc.
Thanks for your help!
What does he want from a phone?
What does he want from a User Interface? (Does he want sense?)
What are his disappointments with the phone so far?
lol..Psychoanalysis?
Yes.
OP, ask your friend if a tree falls down in the forrest, will there be any sound? The answer to this will determine whether miui is worth trying or not.
He already had MIUI once a few month ago and he (same as me) diskliked it. Cause of the missing App Drawer and stuff.
He want a stable phone. A working camera, if it is possible smooth scrolling. I think a modern ICS rom or something like that should be fine. He is not that of a hardcore user with benchmarks and stuff.
Stable and ics don't mix together.
ok lemme try that, ics looking but I think thats gonna be no problem with go launcher etc. He is used to CM7, perhaps something like that out there?
forgive me, I was being facetious. I dont like miui either.
Well IMHO, we're looking at AOSP / Sense 2.0 (or lower) Gingerbread ROM. What do you think DZ?
Quite agree. If he doesn't want to play with dialers and launchers, get him a stock sense ROM. Else let him try Sense and Aosp Gingerbread and decide. You can flash each, take recovery images and demo them.
Yep.
Well he is on a CM7 nightly, so he probably has a reasonable idea of the aesthetics of AOSP.
If I wanted to recommend an AOSP ROM (with obvious exception of course) I wouldn't necessarily say CM7 was the best rom to use as an example for smoothness and performance. Oxygen is usually a good place to start with AOSP. Or maybe even Mildwild.
different Launchers etc are no problem. We are just looking for some easy update. Like I said, its the latest official CM7 nightly (from november I think).
What do you think about Runnydroid or MildWild?
Once again ive just had a look at the brilliant desire index: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
and the best 2.0 or lower sense ROM imho is actually SuperNova Extreme: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045824
or Cool IceCream Sense which is Gingerbread sense 2.0 but has an ICS feel to it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1279016
I dont see runnymede being particularly fast, smooth or bug free. We're looking at a rom thats for a much newer device than the desire. Its close to the boundaries of what the desire can do.
Mildwild (Oxygen based one) has reportedly good battery life and if the theme is liked, probably a good choice. Lots of script tweaks in there. Or simply Oxygen that it is based on.
I haven't tried MildWild though, but if I were to, it would be the oxy version.
OP, I would recommend the roms of the first two people who replied to you. Droidzone for Sense rom and rootSU for AOSP, take your pick.

Haha. Neither of us have recommended our own roms. We try to be impartial
ok
I just installed the MildWild and its working fine so far! Just another question. Do we have to install a new kernel or adjust ril/bb settings somehow?
RIL and Kernel packaged in the rom should be fine. Shouldnt be any need to change. Infact its a _thalamus kernel. I dont think there is any better for oxygen (Assuming you went for the oxygen version?)
What is BB?

I'm not sure that kernel can be replaced there because of the camera.
SwiftKeyed from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk.
Yep, AOSP driver. I would expect the kernel by gen_Sheiskopff would work, but not sure how its been developed recently. Dont see him around the desire forums much anymore

[Q] List of Android 4.0 ICS ROM's for Evo 4G?

Hello,
Just wondering if there's a list of ics roms for the evo 4g? I saw there was one listed on the wiki - and looks like there's one more that i noticed on the rom development forum. Don't suppose there's a list which would list install steps/requirements and what's working/not working for however many ICS roms there are?
thanks
just gotta lol at this...umm some ofthe roms working and not working can change daily sooooo i'll chime in on the ones ive used
things that arent working across the board is 4g and front facing camera (ffc)
Gummyworms 4.0.3 ics version. camera is shifty works with a fix camcorder and panoramic dont work and no hardware acceleration (hwa).
Aokp based off of 4.0.4hwa does work. seems to have a something that is buggy that keeps it rebooting but to be honest isnt happening to everyone. camera works with a fix and camcorder and panoramic dont work (i cant remember that exactly but im pretty sure they dont)
and currently im on jamies first release of kwiq ics which has hwa, based of 4.0.4, camera works with a fix but camera and camcorder are not working. buuttt i have had no reboots yet which imo means its suppper stable.
rope made a comment that was really good to explain a difference but i dont remember it soooooo aokp/gummy are awesome if you want to have built in customizations and have a lot of bugs worked through but they have been through some releases. kwiq is really stable as i said but not as much to customize out of the box. which is a trade off but i have to say this is also first release of kwiq so i think there is room to grow there
I was just about to try evervol's rom based on 4.0.3 since it seems like that one ismore stable then the newest one based on 4.0.4
Http://Evo4g.roms-DB.com
Not limited to ics but it does provide ask the basic info of the ROM then a link to the xda thread
sent from my evol supersonic

[Q] What advantages to moving to either ICS or JB?

I have been running CM7 for a while and I am fairly happy with it. I seem to like the basic function over what I have see on other people's phones with either ICS or JB. So I want to ask what advantages or better functions would make me want to upgrade? Maybe better device support? I do notice that my wifi drops off a lot but I also have friend's with the SIII stock and they have the same issue.

ICS
>BETTER APP SUPPORT
>Face unlock
>Easier Folder management
>Better widget/app drawer
>Pinch-to-zoom functionality in the calendar
>Integrated screenshot capture
>Better voice integration and continuous, real-time speech to text dictation
>Better Contacts app
>Chrome syncing
>Built-in photo editor
>ANDROID BEAM!
>others....plus these are stock features. A custom rom will further improve things.
JB
>EVEN BETTER APP SUPPORT!!!
>BUTTERY SMOOTHNESS
>GOOGLE Now
>Expandable notifications
>Photosphere
>Gesture keyboard
>Lock screen widgets
These are just the main bullet points IMO there is no reason to stick with an old outdated OS. I used CM7 until ICS came out officially for our device. CM7 is based off GB which first came out in 2010! If you're wary of custom roms at least update officially and enjoy the most of android.
If your into flashing roms there are many stable ones running Google Now on ICS 4.0.4 if you are just looking for updated google apps. JB isn't officially out for out phones yet so the devs have done a good job of porting roms so we can use JB if you want to. I would check the threads on JB roms and decide which is best for you.
Thanks for help
Thanks for the insight. I am still on the fence but it is not like I can't revert after playing a bit, isn't that was a nand backup is for?

yeah. just make a backup and play around. If you are on cm7 i recommend upgrading to cm10.1, it only gets better.
