TV Out Question - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I was wondering if any ROMs disable the TV out function from the usb port. I couldn't seem to find any threads on this but I heard somewhere that some might not support that.
Just wanted to make sure and sorry if there is a thread on this already.. I may fail as searching.

I don't think any roms support TV out except for some froyo sense roms.

Thanks for the quick reply! Would anyone happen to know which ones? It seems Warm Z does. I am super new to this and was hoping I could use a Sense port for the horizontal home screens.
I guess I could always just load one up and try it..

skyraider does. I think all the froyo sense roms do.
I'm hoping when the GB OTA comes out that the non-sense roms will support this as well as 720p camera.

I've been searching through *all* the Incredible Gingerbread ROM's and none of them have the TV out application. Since most are based upon leaked ROM's, it appears that none of the leaks include the apk's required.
If you want TV out, you have to stick with Froyo for now until the official RUU or OTA come out with the TV out app.

You can run it on 2.1, but there's no 2.2 ROM that we can port sense from...
I know its personal preference, but I can't imagine why anyone would want to. The 2.1 version that ran Sense was dog slow and very buggy. IMO, even at it's best, Sense will slow down any system.

Bingo. I think acl is trying to get a ROM from the Desire ported with 2.2/senseui... but I'm sure it'll be slow as heck.
If Android was consistently smooth & quick, then maybe more attention would be given to this cause, but if on a basic level there are still issues... you can't expect something as advanced (and proprietary!) as SenseUI to work well or at all.
But you make a good point. If you want sense, run the rosie 2.1 builds

in my opinion the best thing for our phone should be 1.6+sense (1.6 is blazin fast) or 2.2+sense,eclair is slower
Anyone want to attempt to port "goapk froyo sense 2.2.1" from HTC HERO? I have somewhat successfully ported a HERO rom from CM FRF91 to HTC Fuze but I'm trying to work on 2.1 Espresso port to ext2 right now.
Might try goapk froyo again later.

I would definitely help you if I knew how to port
Or you could try to port from EVO's 2.2 (tried my friends yesterday, and it's definately Android 2.2 (verified in software info.)

Evo hardware isn't even close to ours... As stated previously, the Hero would probably be the best bet.

He's talking about the 2.1 build. It was still sqshfs, he's talking about converting the sqsh file to ext2...
I don't see any mention of 2.2...
I don't think it would matter. All the reading's i've done say Sense based xdandroid build's are a fair bit slower. I've personally used 1.6 android with sense, well before i started using 2.2, and i agree it was much more laggy (like a second's or more when selecting something, and also when flipping through different screen's, and sense tabs.
I wouldn't bother. Granted i LOVE sense on my touch pro, i would recommend to use the one's HTC makes (they might not SAY they did, but undeniably look identical) offered on the Market, and are pretty cheap actually. I was thinking about buying a couple, but saw some free ones that aren't THAT much difference in looks for free.
I would like to see Sense added to 2.2 if it's not hurting speed and lag though for SURE, but the 1.6 i tried for a week i stopped right away cause it was unbearable to use anymore.
The problem is that including HTC sense widgets would be illegal and infringing on htc's copyright on those widgets/design..
Well, it's no different then the available Android 1.6 w/ Sense that's been around for a while here. Not that i am agreeing on it being right or wrong of course. Course that's kind of why i was mentioning about the FREE alternatives, to avoid that debate.

If it counts, I actually converted mine (converted the sqshfs to ext2; used an app jesusfreak mentioned when I first got on irc) but I'm not 100% sure it works
To be honest, I'm not looking for any specific aside from the launcher ( maybe ) or the theme. It ( not talking about the converted sqshfs ) was working or so I thought. I'll have to break out my 4GB microSD and extract what I had working to tell you for sure what I have working and what-not.
I have the link saved on my laptop and will be happy to share this when I get back on my computer, I'm at work currently.

[Q] OTA Update by carrier or phone manufacturer?

Can't find any answers on forums so here goes...will a future 2.3 OTA update for DHD be by carrier or phone manufacturer i.e by HTC direct.
I got mine p&g on 3 network but don't use the 3 sim, I use an o2...so how wld any OTA update arrive, do I need to keep putting 3 sim back in the phone from time to time or when I check for updates will it come from HTC direct?...I take it that it wldn't come from o2...
Thanks
**Emailed HTC..they say they wont be releasing any OTA update, it will come from carrier, and for me to contact 3
***Just spoke to 3...didnt expect much from them, according to their c/s call centre assistant in Mumbai, the latest version of Android 3 network has is 2.1...dimwit, I bought the phone from 3 and had 2.2 already on it, which he disputes..obviously he knows better than me who bought the phone and uses it
Have a look at the software build. If it's x.x.405.x then any updates will come from HTC directly. Otherwise you'll have to wait for the carrier to modify it first.

We are all new to it at some point but the whole process is actually a lot easier than it first sounds. Just read the instructions and FAQs until it's clear what you need to do. See my reply in the thread linked below to save you searching and to save me typing it all again!:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920238&page=2
As for things not working in custom ROMs, well that was maybe the case when the DHD was first released but it's certainly not the case now. Lets take Android Revolution HD ROM as an example - Everything works as it should and the performance of it blows all stock ROMs away.
There are other 100% working / stable / every day use ROMs too, like LeeDroid ROM which also gets great feedback from the people who use it.

Many thanks...maybe I will have a try...getting bored with Froyo cos of all the 2.3 hype so wld like to see what the fuss is about...cant read anything on android forums without them banging on about gingerbread this, gingerbread that...and an OTA from 3 or HTC isnt worth holding breath for
Ah... now most fully working DHD ROMs are also Froyo, but don't let that put you off as they will all be like night and day compared to stock Froyo. You jsut have to have a quick look at the release notes and change logs to see the differences.
However if you really do want a slice of tasty Gingerbread look at the CM7 builds, but this is where you will find things not working or unstable etc as they're experimental.
Another option to relieve your Froyo boredom is to flash one of the custom Froyo ROMs and then start customising it with mods and themes etc. See post 2 in the Android Revolution HD thread for some really cool stuff, and also in the first few posts of the LeeDroid thread.

We'll have to wait for HTC to release the official update, or wait for another model HTC to get 2.3 and then be ported over to DHD.
It will happen, we just have to be patient... something I learned waiting for the 2.1 update for Hero!
In think custom 2.2 would be better than stock 2.3 anyway. On the other hand, custom ROMs based on 2.3 are something to get excited about

HTC! there's potentially a lot of work with the framework and API changes from Froyo to gingerbread and I wouldn't expect personally to see a GB sense ROM until HTC have ported it

[Q] Is there a viable Gingerbread 2.3 Rom for Desire HD yet?

I had an original Hero a while ago and was using Modaco roms but that was over a year ago now before jumping to Palm Pre for a bit.
So I am totally new on modern hacks and concerning the DHD.
I know I need to downgrade and something called S-OFF and Visionary. However what I need to know is if I use a 2.3 Rom presumably from a Cyanogen source will I have full functionality? All Google Apps? Can I still use HTC Sense widgets if I choose too? Will HTCSense.com still work?
Thanks

Depends where you get it from, but on here most are full of bugs currently, I would wait until they are ironed out. No HTCSense.com won't work without the HTC Sense homescreen, but I would only worry about this if you REALLY need the service. Google Apps will work, and if they arent supplied they can be downloaded from the Market

[Q] Will the HTC Sense 4.0 Camera work on an ICS ROM?

Hi, I was wondering if it was possible to install the HTC Sense 4.0 Camera APK and use it as a default for my current ICS ROM.. I'm using Ice Cream Jibwich 2.0, so far it seems to be the smoothest ICS ROM that works on my Desire Z and does have a working camera.. I just like some of the functionality of the Sense 4.0 camera, and I was wondering if I could get it on my ICS ROM.. Is there anything I need to know about? Is it just as simple as replacing the camera apk or will there be issues with framework? etc.
Thanks

^What he said.
the Sense-style blobs, drivers, etc is designed specifically for that sense kernel it won't work outside of that.
On a Funny Note: There used to be a ton of these types of threads, except it was how to get ICS cameras working on Sense (since before infinity, Sense didn't have a working camera for 3.6 onward).

[Q] Working Stock ICS or Jellybean ROMs?

I have spent the last few hours searching all over, just like I do every few months, trying to find a stable ICS or Jellybean ROM with everything actually working. Finally decided to just post and ask for some help. I don't care about beats audio or any other stuff people add in, just plain stock is preferable, but I need wifi, 4g, youtube, and all the camera stuff to work. *sigh*
There's so much I want to say. But instead, I will say this:
This device is only officially supported through Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread). Any Android versions past that do not have official drivers, so they would have to be built from scratch, for a device that has been EOL for quite a while. Thus, your statement "where everything works the way it should" doesn't make sense, as the device doesn't officially support running ICS or JB.
That being said, all of the ICS/JB ROMs suffer at the very least the same list of things not working - FFC, 4G, HDMI out, Netflix. Videocam can also be an issue on some. So, based on your criteria, you'll be sticking to Sprint-based Gingerbread Sense ROMs .

Not sure why all the sighing and such but thanks for the info. It's hard to tell because it's not always clear what people base a ROM on and it seems like only about half the people posting ROMs list what doesn't work. I was hoping there might be a cynagenmod 9 or 10 for it at some point but it doesn't seem likely.

CM9 and CM10 both exist for the supersonic, but development has been discontinued on them. But that doesn't matter anyway; those features I already mentioned still don't work, so they're disqualified from your consideration.

To me finished means things work. I mean what makes it finished? Just that you are able to install it on the phone? If that were the case there was a finished version more than a year ago. Obviously cyanogen doesn't think it's finished either otherwise they would make it official.

That's not what makes a CM build official or not. But I'm not going to bore you with facts you can find via Google. And yes, everything that can/should work work. But there are updates to drivers that can make things work better, or tweaks here and there that can be done. Besides the fact that Google releases updates/patches that need to be included.
Since I answered your original question, I will now digress.
Lol how many times a week are people going to ask about ics and jb builds with everything working, or official HTC releases without looking for themselves first before realizing they don't and wont ever exist. Yes they are finished, they boot, make calls, get data, the only things that dont work on em are 4g and FCC. Just unroot your phone and forget about it, you aren't cut out for this business son.

You need to assess just how important some features are to you. If you only have an Evo, and somehow don't have an upgrade on your plan, then you have 2 options.
1: Keep it stock, everything works. No hassle, just poor battery life. Maybe get Superuser and remove the adware/junk if you feel like it.
2: Use a custom ROM which will not have working 4g, FFC, and other features that you won't know they don't work until you go to use them.
Weigh the pros and cons and make a choice, but everyone here so far is correct. The device is EOL and there will most likely never be a working ICS/JB build that has all features working. That would require too much work, for an EOL device.

If you must have all radios and hardware of the EVO 4G fully functional, you should stick with a gingerbread ROM v 2.3.5 or later. MikG 3.11 is a Sense based ROM that is well integrated and fully supports all EVO 4G operations. You can download MikG 3.11 at http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?10338-MikG-v3-11-3-9-2012.
As others have indicated, no ICS or Jellybean ROM supports 4G or the FFC. Sadly the necessary work for the hardware drivers is not likely to happen. If you do not require working 4G or FFC, there are a number of fully functional Android 4.0.4 (ICS) or 4.1.2 (Jellybean) ROMs available. I happen to like HALO Series II Nova http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903469&page=33 and AlienMOD Solar Flare Series V http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086163 with the caveat that I am experiencing some tint issues with camera applications in these ROMs.
