Evo and Unlimited International Data Roaming $40 - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone confirmed that this package can be added to the EVO? I have heard that it cannot be added, however it show as an option in my account. I will be traveling to Canada in a month and would like to know.

Will not work. On my evo so don't feel like searching and finding the thread but I spike to numerous sprint reps and their supervisors because they told me it would with before coming to korea, but they they left me numerous voice mails saying they are sorry for the misunderstanding and the evo is not a world phone.

International Data Plan through Sprint *not* compatible with EVO

I talked to a Sprint rep via *2 to add the "Worldwide Data Plan" to my account. She asked me a few security questions and afterwards told me that I'm set to go.
After arriving in Korea, I checked my Sprint account online, and saw that the Worldwide Data plan was still under "services you can add" instead of "services you have."
After talking to a few more sprint reps over the phone, they concluded that the "World Wide Data" plan is NOT compatible with the EVO.
This is a huge blow to me as a Sprint store employee telling me that "of course, you can add the international data plan to the Evo" was the final selling point in jumping services to get what seemed like the best phone available to me - I am a frequent traveler.
Does anyone have any workarounds to this issue? "Tricking" Sprint to think that I own something else besides an Evo? If not, I'll have to return this phone that I love very much
A huge shame as I have NEVER experienced any of the screen separation/wifi/grounding/battery issues that others seem to be having.
Any comments are appreciated.
HTC Evo doesn't have the bands to be a world phone. It is not as if Sprint is refusing to sell you the service plans.
One of the reps told me that she added the plan and I was good to go before I hopped on the plane, and then they called me back AFTER I landed in Korea to tell me this.. haha. Thanks.
Before coming to Mexico I added the $40.00 Unlimited Data roaming plan, last night I checked online and I was being charged for data roaming so I called sprint and I was told the same thing that the plan was not compatible and I would be liable for 50 percent of the charges.

Sprint Airave question

I received a free Airave from Sprint but I had some questions. I wanted to know if I have the most recent model. On their website they show it's made by Samsung but the one I received is made by Airvana. On the website it says the Samsung model only handles voice but the one they set me handles voice and data.
Just wanted to know if they sent me an unreleased model.

There was rumor of a 3g model coming out but I have not heard anything latley. Sorry no help. I have the second Gen Samsung.
This has been out for over two months. I have had mine for that long at least. There are many threads here about it.

the one you have hasnt been available in the system for a couple of months the airvana is the new airave its under the principal of a "femtocell" and is not in the system for order yet, the airvana does full 3g and six phones at the same time but i hear it pulls a bit of bandwidth something to keep in mind
So I have a new one then awesome. I went in their site and I only saw Samsung. I haven't hooked it up yet but lets see how out goes. Mines doesn't have an antennae like the Samsung models.

No it is not in the system yet but that is the one that everyone is getting. I think they have been giving them out for free but it is sprints property so don't think it is yours. Lol they sent me a letter about a month after I had mine and said it was theirs and blah blah blah.

On a whim, after reading this, I called sprint, due to a signal problem in my area. Seems one of the towers has been having major issues lately. When I am at home, or near my house, I don't get text messages till I make a call, incoming callers have complained about an insane amount of rings till I answer, even if I answer immediately, outgoing calls take longer to connect, etc.... Once I get about a mile from home, everything works right.
It was the least painful call I ever made to Sprint. They are sending out an airave (most likely airvana from what I have been reading everywhere) for only 99 cents, and waving the monthy fee, as I have been a customer for 6+ years. The total length of the call was about 5 minutes.
99 cents? Weird.

WTF!? I've been calling for weeks and shopping stores and you got one today?
they promised me one free and free monthly service but they keep telling me they dont have any available, what department did you talk to?
Talk with retentions tell them what's the point of having service if you can't use it and you are gonna close your account.

Here, I'll straighten everything out:
Samsung Airave:
Only does voice and 1X data.
Airvana Airave:
Does voice and 3G data.
Is currently being sold in stores, and given by Sprint to people with poor service, or who complain loud enough.
Got an airave on tuesday. I am a new customer in my 30 days and complained of the service, I was sent one at no cost, and no monthly fee. I put it up in the attic, and have had 5 bars service in my house since. I never even switch the phone to wifi anymore as the 3g with airvana is plenty fast.
Speak to retentions department. I'm happy that this new airrave handles voice and data. I got mines free with waived monthly service. Can't wait to try it out.
I had multiple calls and my drop call radio in my house was displayed on their side. Everything I complained about was backed up in notes.

Pretty much covered all that but I am standing in a corp store as I type this and it is not available, it is possible that they could be available by region but I'm doubtful, I'll let every one know when we see them

yeah, im an X sprint employee and a couple of my buddys are managers at sprint corporate stores, none available in the area, and they cant be direct shipped from the warehouse yet either.
but what im angry about is that people are getting them and they are telling me they arent available, It all went over pretty easily because they said sure we'll get you one ( i didnt even ask) just called and said i had terrible service, but yet no one can get ahold of one.
Very frustrating for every one right now besides the lucky few who got them if customer service says there in stores ask them to verify with the store while your still on the line. I'm Just trying to reduce headaches for every one

OK.... so I have an airvana.... everything is up and running just fine... I'm a little confused.... since its possible to make voip calls through it does it mean that I can take it anywhere in the world.. hook it up to the internet and make calls free to the USA without signing up for any Sprint voip plan?
I know that it won't find any mobile signal but it should have the Broadband and gps lights as constant green if I hook it up elsewhere to the internet outside USA.
Thanks in advance.

I think you have to sign up for the sprint plan.

Sorry, I haven't checked back to this thread in a while... I called Sprint at 1-877-775-4886
The call was quick, under 5 minutes, and I had the Airvana in a couple days. They said they would take off the $99 and only charge me 99 cents, but I didn't see that charge in my bill either. I did see that the monthly $4.99 charge had been waived though, so I know it was on this billing cycle.

[Q] Sprint SWAC and Evo

I bought an Evo early from the Google IO conference, and I was able to activate it about a week after the Evo went on general sale. I am also on a SWAC account through an employee friend of my brother. I was open and up front with every Sprint employee i interacted with and up until a few days ago i had no problems. The employee friend was told at an area meeting, by the area manager on down that there can be no Evo's on any employee account and I had to get mine off with 24 hours or he was fired.
This comes many months later and when I re-activated my Hero, the tech on the phone claimed there were numerous Evo's on employee accounts the way i did it. And between him, some other techs on the phone and in stores, as well as my best web searches, I seem to be the only one that had to back out. I am told there is an estimated end of October date for employees, and by extension those on their accounts, to buy an Evo at discount and use them. I am now stuck waiting to activate mine again and once again know the sweetness of a real phone. My Hero is just so slow and small now.
Is there anyone with more definite news that the rumors I have been able to dig up? And I am not going to push this any harder on Sprint's end because I really do enjoy the discount, but there is only so much time I am willing to wait before I get a consumer account again.
Well, I am now under the impression that I may just be the only one this has happened to. Either my brother's friend is yanking my chain or he has other issues at work that led to this on his account. Either way I am unable to use my real phone and having to make do with what I was already unhappy with four months ago. If anyone has any input, I am open to new ideas.
Hopefully the leaked date of the 24th or 25th is accurate for Sprint employees and their associated friends getting an Evo. I just want to put mine back on my account.
Nope, still waiting. Evo, Epic, any 4G phone seems to be at the whims of area or district managers. When I talk to phone support, they have heard nothing of having to remove 4G phones from eployee accounts. But, I read in several places where SWAC account holders can't activate an Evo even if they pay full price, while others have like I did and have no repurcussions. Looks like different areas, different rules.

Sprint Account Cloned - Calls to Cuba...

My sprint account has international LD charges to CUBA.....lol
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/09/01/sprint_phone_cloning_scam/
Has this been discussed before?
i haven't seen any discussion on this. but im interested in seeing what comes up.
my family calls Cuba and i'd be worried they get dragged into a scam like that
Had some people call me claiming from Sprint technical dept about a month ago.
They asked me to repeat the code that I had just been texted so they could confirm data coverage in my area....
That code, was the pin reset sent by automatic "forgot my pin" link on the website.
I led them on for a bit telling them I hadn't received anything. Eventually they hung up.
They had spoofed the sprint customer care 800 number so when I called back I got the automatic attendant. I eventually got connected to the fraud department and talked with someone there. We joked around after confirming my account was safe. He said that this has been ongoing and there is a large group of people making these calls to unsuspecting sprint customers.
TLDR, don't ever give out codes/pins to unsolicited calls
wow...how do they think of things like that?

Service plans after Sprint?

My contract ends in July and im on my parents family plan still. Upon moving out and all that good stuff, they wont let me stay on their plan.
So now I would be in the search of what to do when the time comes.
What do you guys suggest? The cheaper the better as a college student, supporting girlfriend and I on one income- makes it tougher. (currently paying $55 on my parents plan, split up amongst family members).
Advice would be appreciated.
Edit: One idea I thought up of, is get a month to month plan with unlimited text and get a simple phone.. and let the GF use the evo (that has no service) and use with google voice to text each other. As shes around places with wifi, except in the car.
my first idea would be to see if your employer offers any discounts, cell phone service discount. They usually range from 15 to 20% by my experience. Otherwise call sprint up talk to a saleman maybe you can get info on a promotion they got going.
I'm all for sprint as you can tell. Just never cared to try others by myself since I tried them with my friends phones. Cricket sucks in my experience. I don't think it would do your evo any just to switch to them, would have to get their crap phones from them.
Will check into that, thanks
You can flash your evo to Boost and pay about the same as you are paying now for unlimited service, no 4g. You will have to do some internet searching to learn how to do it, but it is another option.
Not sure but would I be able to use any ROM if I am on boost?
