Does anyone know how to convert a android Sprint evo ( HD2 ) to windows 6.5?
Has it been done?
All my software is windows based and I want to upgrade to HD2.
If someone can give me some direction and it has been done that would be nice. I have changed roms on my phone before but never PLATFORMS....
Can it be done?
Or do i need to buy a HD2 windows from Tmobile and unlock it?
Thanks for all the help
Chris
Step 1. Go to the Q&A board.
Step 2. Get a T-Mobile HD2.
You now have Windows Mobile 6.5!
First off.. WHY? for the love of Christ, WHY?
There is a reason why we love the Android OS, and having you come in here like that is like sitting in the wrong bleachers at a football came.. make sure you were a helmet and some pads, cuz its gonna be a beating. hehe
Im not be harsh.. I was trying to be funny..
hasnt been highly doubt it will be done
tmobile hd2 wont work on sprint

I understand that
But I have sprint and TMOBILE SUCKS in my area
First....winmo 6.5 is dead
Second....if anything like this were to ever be done, it would be win phone 7, not winmo 6.5
third....HD2 is GSM (sim card)based and will never work on Sprints CDMA (non sim card) network
seriously, give Android a try.......I guarantee you wont be sorry
What software issues are you having? There is basically an Android version out of anything you could find on WinMo, and quite honestly it probably works better in Android.
WinMo 6 is how many years old now? You should definitely give Android a shot, as long as you download the right apps, you shouldn't have a compatibility issue.
Hopefully windows Phone 7 will be ported over to the Evo that would be sweet. I'm an Ex windows phone guy myself and will probably be going back once a device with nice specs catches me eye. So a port to play with will enjoying some android would be nice

No, GSM definitely wont work on Sprint. Your TP2 only has a sim card for roaming purposes only. The HD2 has no CDMA (Sprint) compatibility.

No... The HD2 will NOT work on Sprint! There will NEVER be a port of Windows 6.5 on the EVO; there would be Windows Phone 7 if anything. If you have AT&T coverage in your area you can always get an UNLOCKED HD2 and use it on AT&T. I did this for a short time and it worked great. If you want 3G coverage on AT&T's 850mhz band you can get a TELSTRA version of the HD2 off ebay that will work on 3G ("i did this").
hd2 will not work on sprint how many times ppl gota say that for u to understand only reason touchpro2 had sim was to use outside country sprint is not a gsm network

My question is...when will an unlocked version that will work on At&t's 3G networks be available.
Would an unlocked T-Mobile version work on At&t's 3G network?
t-mobile runs on a different highspeed 3g band than att so as the international version...att need 850 and 1900 highspeed 3g band...of course the tmobile and international version would work but edge be the max connection you would get
T-Mobile's 3G (AWS) runs on 1700mhz/2100mhz (up/down)
ATT's 3G is 850mhz/1900mhz (up/down)
EDGE is somewhat universal, will work on both networks
There are rumors of a version of TP2 that has all US 3G bands? (850mhz/1700mhz/1900mhz/2100mhz)
- highly unlikely....
im just guessing but, tmobile touchpro 2 coming out in july my prediction is ATT will have theirs anywhere between august to november...thing with ATT they dont announce or preview any their phones until the release...only big promotion i remember they did for a phone is iphone. i dont care if they change the keybord to FUZE style fn i just want the phone on ATT sooner than later. Highspeed internet is very important, cause people using these type of phone mainly use it more than just phone calls and sms....

My only AT&T contact says the scuttlebutt is that the Tilt2 (Touch Pro 2) would not be available until early December 2009 and it would be on Windows Mobile 6.5. He said the phone was initially expected in November but software issues with AT&T blowtware may have pushed it back a few weeks. I have a pre-order for this phone and I currently own the European version and even though it only functions on EDGE it is still the hands down best phone I have ever seen.

I too am hoping for October. I can't wait for December ^^
I finally sold my Tilt on ebay because I couldn't stand it anymore. In the beginning it was a great phone but over time of course the signal went to crap (at least where I am at). I posted an honest auction and it sold quickly. Now I have a Samsung Eternity as a backup phone until the Tilt 2 comes out. I soooooooooo miss Windows, GPS, Voice Command..etc...so if I have to wait anything more than the first two weeks of October I am going to scold AT&T and hold a grudge.
Who the hell cares about their stupid bloatware...don't add it. I don't need teaser trials of stupid games and apps. If I want them I can install them myself.
I saw a writeup of the Verizon TP2 that said it supported GSM.
From their Website...
EV–DO, 1X RTT capable (Rev. A capable); GSM Quad Band (GSM/GPRS/EDGE); UMTS/WCDMA/HSDPA/HSUPA
Does that mean you can drop in a ATT sim and you are off and running?

I am tired of AT&T, all the other big guys has release it, and them keep the silence...
I am going to verify if the sprint one (wich has a Sim card) can be unlock... any one here knows that???
the new ATT rebate form is gonna be online 09-20 so lets see if the tilt 2 gonna be on that list...if so we are ready to hit that order button. but i agree i would but very piss if its a december release.
I considered a T-Mobile TP2, but I don't want that awful keymap where I'd have to shift constantly for every bit of punctuation. Waiting for the Tilt 2.

both sprint and verizon have a sim slot for international use if you travel...it can be unlock but most u can get it edge for ATT im not sure about tmobile.
im not sure how the flashing and installing custom rom will work on spring and verizon eventhough its clear they run on cdma but it also has sim slot running on gsm so i dunno if HARD SPL will work on it...ill just wait for ATT
Changed every setting I can find on my new Touch Pro 2 but no HSPDA...
Think my phone is defective?
Any post appreciated
um... first of all, if you own a TP2, then you own a version that doesn't support US 3g.
Second.... wel no thats pretty much it.. sorry man.. If you want 3g speeds, you have to wait for AT&T to release their version of the TP2 (called the Fortress). As it is now, any TP2 that is unlocked is limited to Edge speeds. Sucks i know, but thats how it is Unless AT&T is in Europe and uses different bands for 3g over there that im not aware of.
Darn it. I know you're right it's just disappointing.
Thanks for laying it all out there for me.
Still a super cool phone tho! I hope it's not worn out before 3G makes it to me...
Was a very good replacement for my Sedna
My available WCDMA bands are:
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(900+2100)
GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
UMTS(2100+800)
Which is kinda funny because my Sedna will do 3G on the GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850) and this Touch Pro 2 will not.

tha tis because its radio doesnt actually have those available. it may list them but they are not available. you cant always trust the interface. this has been the case with the TP1,Diamond 1, TP2 and the HD
TP2 supports 900/2100 UMTS band and missing the 1900 (Reason why I didn't get TD2 or TP2). I have an Xperia X1i which supports the 1900 band and it works with ATT 3G flawlessly

No the bands just arent there. I've been a helper monkey for testing the US 3g capabilities of TP1 and helping with hacking attempts on it and trust me its not happening and I'll bet same on TP2
Finally
Check this: http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009...ss-touch-pro2-to-land-september-11th-for-199/
Finally..verizon tp2 is not crippled
Engadget has a leaked internal memo confirming this as well.

So it will be $489.99 without contract right??

Anyone know if its possible to unlock for US AT&T 3G? I'd pay $500 in a heartbeat for no contract, an actual number row, green (I'm a green whore), for once not crippled by Verizon version...
nothing personally to any of you, but I've had Verizon, and i'd rather have a a GSM network that I can swap Sim's on, and switch phones when I like.
The Cdma network, has great coverage and clarity, but I'd rather have the freedom of what phone do I want today

Is there a phone better than the tp2? No then there is no need to swap!
I'm surprised more people haven't responded to this. As a long time Verizon customer, this announcement MADE MY DAY!
I called the Verizon 800-number and was told that it is indeed releasing on the 11th... can't wait! I'm going to use my NE2 $50 off and hopefully get some kind of retention discount since I'm out of contract... $149 after rebate minus whatever I can finangle , will be a nice upgrade from my XV6800/HTC Titan.
Does anyone think they will allow for preorders or will it be a grab for it on the day it launches?
Yep - the VZN TP2 is very much on my radar. I have been very happy with my current Moto A4500 (Q9 Napoleon) running WM 6.1 Standard, but looking forward to a touch screen interface. Actually, one of the nice things about VZN is that I can toggle between devices via the dial up "device programming app:" *228 option 3.

I don't think it'll work on domestic GSM networks though, just overseas. I have an Ozone with Verizon and it came with a Verizon/Vodaphone SIM installed, but when I try to access AT&T's network here it can't.
Edit-According to Phonescoop, it's not approved by the FCC to access domestic GSM, even though it can do 1900 and 850. I imagine the same will be true of the TP2.
I was told that the phone would be available for online ordering only on Sept 11th. I was so disappointed as I was planning to open up at the store to get the 1st one!
Has anyone else heard this?

part of me wants the nexus, so updates are always out.. but there's always xda XD.
oh no! what if I buy an att desire for t-mobile, will I get 3g?
Oh please Heavenly Lord don't give such a beast to such a undeserving network! Let them stick with the iphone.
And to the above you will get 2G only!!!
Down with AT&T!!!!
This phone should come to T-Mobile since they need an exclusive phone (the nexus one doesn't count because of that lame arse plan you have to get) that is really good.
Stick with your iPhone AT&T. You need the fanboys going over to you and let the "real" carriers get the Android phones.
I thought Tmobile was getting this phone??
I don't see why everone is dogging AT&T? ya i'm not in love with the carrier or iphone. In fact i'm one the biggest iphone haters alive, but AT&T is the only service where I get 3g and it is FAST. T-MOBILE gets edge at best on the nations 3rd largest carrier. I know AT&T doesn't get good service in some big cities but the best option for me and my area within a 250 mile rdaius. You should be excited att id getting an droid phone, but of course att will some how screw with android with some yahoo android apps or something.
Desire!
This is most likely my next device. I am so glad to see that AT&T saw fit to get a real HTC with great specs. I have been anxiously awaiting which HTC device was coming my way. There is no way I was going to settle for the Backflip! They may also be getting the Sony Ericcson X10 which is also a nice device, but in my opinion nothing compared to the Desire. The confirmed Dell mini 3 is not even a consideration, but the mini 5 would definately have my attention. Cant wait to hear a release date, I know what I'm getting myself for my Bday in May if the release date works out.

Your carrier fanboyism aside, I don't want an iphone. I can't switch to T-mobile. Know why? Because there's no T-mobile 3G where I live.
Millions of americans are in the same predicament, and choices are usually limited 1 or 2 carriers. For east Orlando, that means VZW or AT&T. Hence, despite T-mobile's awesome prices and great phones (I wanted an N1, HD2 and an N900, guess whose network they only work with?), there's an important reason why they're still #4- they keep avoiding us. So piss off...
That said, I want an N1 or Desire... hurry up AT&T!!!

I don't think it'd make a whole lot of sense for TMo to get both the Nexus One (which they're rumored to get - subsidized on-contract, not the unlocked version) and the Desire; they're basically the same hardware...

Will the desire with its current specification run on at&t 3G network? I noticed the 850 band is only labeled GSM, while the 900/2100 is labeled HSDPA.
In this column, he mentions it will only run on 2G in the states.

No. Need to wait for a US version otherwise the best you'll get is edge.
Lol, I have AT&T and I'll stay with them only if I can't get this phone with Verizon.
Problem is, AT&T drops lots of my calls, somewhere in the neighborhood of 5% around town and as high as 20% where I live. They seem fine other wise. When i'm traveling to other areas, life is good with them. Their devices work internationally and I can talk and surf at the same time. When I'm near my home which isn't a rural area at all, drop drop drop.

Or find some way to get an unlocked one from Telstra Austrailia, they'll be rolling out the Desire next month. They run an 850Mhz 3G network and as with their 850Mhz Touch HD, their 850Mhz Desire should work on AT&T as well.
Is it possible to run a Sprint Touch Pro on Android, also having both the Windows Mobile and Android flashed to cricket? Considering getting one of these for my gf whose only option is Cricket... At the same time having epicness of a Touch Pro on Android.
I have a Touch Pro 2 on T Mobile running the Android, does this also use Haret?
Sorry for being a noob, just wanna make sure I can do this before I run out and buy a Sprint Touch Pro. It looks so much better than Verizon's.

I wouldn't go for the Sprint TP or the Verizon TP as both are actually a separate CDMA model known as the Herman (as opposed to the Raphael). Apparently the Herman is noticeably worse than the Touch Pro; it overheats, is unresponsive at times and has poor call reception. On top of that you don't get a front-facing camera It is possible to run XDANDROID on the Herman, though.
As they are both CDMA, you'll have to get the other carrier (Cricket) to register the phone's serial number on its network before it will work. If your girlfriend has a Cricket SIM card it would be much easier to just use an unlocked Touch Pro GSM.
I suggest you go for an actual HTC Touch Pro instead, or at least a Fuze.
Yes, the Touch Pro2 uses Haret.

Wow....ok not to make fun and I know you are TRYING to help but, you have just given the worst advice ever. First off CRICKET is NOT a GSM carrier so NO SIM CARD!! The Sprint touch pro does NOT have any of the problems you just stated. It's a Raph800 but yes it IS known as the Herman. I have one. AND it's on Cricket...AND I'M RUNNING ANDROID. As well as WinMo 6.5.x AND sense 2.5. Disregard everything this guy just said.

Oops I knew I shouldn't have listened to them voices in my head-brain...
To be honest I hadn't ever heard of Cricket as I don't live in the US. I meant the 500 (Verizon model). Regardless, I would try to avoid the CDMA if it's at all possible - support on this site for it is much thinner than the GSM.
Problem is, just like Sprint & Verizon, Cricket is CDMA only... So his only option is a CDMA phone, no SIM card available in CDMA models.

I know, but if he really has his heart set on a Touch Pro then it might be worth getting a GSM contract instead.
OP, what is it specifically about the Touch Pro that you like so much? You can get qwerty Android phones and there's always the Touch Pro2... Is it to do with budget or functionality?
Cricket has no contracts, hence the reason it is a good option for those looking for a 'cheap' (relatively) cell carrier.
I don't know of any GSM carriers in the states that offer what Cricket does, short of the pay-per-minute ones.
I'd go with a TP2 or an Android-specific device as well. So why is your heart set on the TP?
It is possible to have the Sprint Touch Pro on Cricket; it is what I am currently running here in the Central California market. While Android may not be "flashed" onto the device, it can be run from the microSD card via HaRET. As of 6/14/2010 1400, I am able to make and receive calls and SMS, but the data connection isn't working and I haven't even tried MMS. It is all still a work in progress, and the guys behind this are making it happen fast. Everything I did to make Android work on my Touch Pro can be found here:

(just found out the hard way that I cannot post links; copy & paste the above line into your browser)
As a Cricket user I have to say, this has been one of the most beautiful devices to ever touch Cricket's network, Android OR Windows Mobile 6.x (I'm running 6.1; a tad bit snappier than 6.5).
Not really a Cricket device you have there... don't mean to rain on your parade
BUT to get the net working have you tried setting up the proxy needed for Cricket service? I'm honestly not sure how to do that in Android, but I'm sure it's possible.
have you tried setting up the proxy needed for Cricket service?
Went into the APN settings and entered wap.mycricket.com on port 8080 as the proxy with my username as [email protected] and ******* as the password - no luck. Found a page somewhere on ppcgeeks which stated you had to enter the username information into /etc/ppp/pap-secrets as well as /etc/ppp/options.smd1 (or something along those lines), but that didn't prove to be helpful - not only was it meant for U.S. Cellular (I adjusted what needed adjusting), the necessary information was already contained in said files. Toggled Airplane Mode on & off, no dice. Rebooted & ran HaRET again, nada. The only successful data connection I had was with WiFi. Using that, I was able to log on to the app market and download a file explorer (and an SNES emulator =), so at the very least I can browse files graphically (and the page I found on PPC geeks specified this app in particular).
But yeah, with these dudes making strides daily, it may soon become a non-issue.

No worries; there's no raining on this parade. I got a Touch Pro for cheap, real cheap, as an upgrade from a Mogul (Titan). Became so accustomed to its sluggishness that the raw speed of the Touch Pro caught my attention immediately. It's nice that Sprint and Cricket use the same technology. 8^D
