Verizon Wireless Touch Pro2 to land September 11th, $199.99 - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Finally
Check this: http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009...ss-touch-pro2-to-land-september-11th-for-199/

Finally..verizon tp2 is not crippled

Engadget has a leaked internal memo confirming this as well.
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/09/04/htc-touch-pro2-graces-verizon-on-september-11/
This brings me back to the question, does anyone know if it will at all be possible to unlock this for use on US AT&T 3G?

So it will be $489.99 without contract right??

According to that leaked memo, yeah.
Anyone know if its possible to unlock for US AT&T 3G? I'd pay $500 in a heartbeat for no contract, an actual number row, green (I'm a green whore), for once not crippled by Verizon version...

nothing personally to any of you, but I've had Verizon, and i'd rather have a a GSM network that I can swap Sim's on, and switch phones when I like.
The Cdma network, has great coverage and clarity, but I'd rather have the freedom of what phone do I want today

Is there a phone better than the tp2? No then there is no need to swap!

I'm surprised more people haven't responded to this. As a long time Verizon customer, this announcement MADE MY DAY!

I called the Verizon 800-number and was told that it is indeed releasing on the 11th... can't wait! I'm going to use my NE2 $50 off and hopefully get some kind of retention discount since I'm out of contract... $149 after rebate minus whatever I can finangle , will be a nice upgrade from my XV6800/HTC Titan.
Does anyone think they will allow for preorders or will it be a grab for it on the day it launches?

Yep - the VZN TP2 is very much on my radar. I have been very happy with my current Moto A4500 (Q9 Napoleon) running WM 6.1 Standard, but looking forward to a touch screen interface. Actually, one of the nice things about VZN is that I can toggle between devices via the dial up "device programming app:" *228 option 3.

CDMA Touch Pro 2 also has SIM slot and should work on GSM networks so you can swap whatever SIM card you want in the CDMA TP2.

I don't think it'll work on domestic GSM networks though, just overseas. I have an Ozone with Verizon and it came with a Verizon/Vodaphone SIM installed, but when I try to access AT&T's network here it can't.
Edit-According to Phonescoop, it's not approved by the FCC to access domestic GSM, even though it can do 1900 and 850. I imagine the same will be true of the TP2.

I was told that the phone would be available for online ordering only on Sept 11th. I was so disappointed as I was planning to open up at the store to get the 1st one!
Has anyone else heard this?

and Its not even a matter of being better, sometimes, when I go to work and I know its gonna be a hands on day, I don't want the phone banging around, I'll switch to a older motorla

My question is...when will an unlocked version that will work on At&t's 3G networks be available.
Would an unlocked T-Mobile version work on At&t's 3G network?
t-mobile runs on a different highspeed 3g band than att so as the international version...att need 850 and 1900 highspeed 3g band...of course the tmobile and international version would work but edge be the max connection you would get
T-Mobile's 3G (AWS) runs on 1700mhz/2100mhz (up/down)
ATT's 3G is 850mhz/1900mhz (up/down)
EDGE is somewhat universal, will work on both networks
There are rumors of a version of TP2 that has all US 3G bands? (850mhz/1700mhz/1900mhz/2100mhz)
- highly unlikely....
im just guessing but, tmobile touchpro 2 coming out in july my prediction is ATT will have theirs anywhere between august to november...thing with ATT they dont announce or preview any their phones until the release...only big promotion i remember they did for a phone is iphone. i dont care if they change the keybord to FUZE style fn i just want the phone on ATT sooner than later. Highspeed internet is very important, cause people using these type of phone mainly use it more than just phone calls and sms....

My only AT&T contact says the scuttlebutt is that the Tilt2 (Touch Pro 2) would not be available until early December 2009 and it would be on Windows Mobile 6.5. He said the phone was initially expected in November but software issues with AT&T blowtware may have pushed it back a few weeks. I have a pre-order for this phone and I currently own the European version and even though it only functions on EDGE it is still the hands down best phone I have ever seen.

I too am hoping for October. I can't wait for December ^^
I finally sold my Tilt on ebay because I couldn't stand it anymore. In the beginning it was a great phone but over time of course the signal went to crap (at least where I am at). I posted an honest auction and it sold quickly. Now I have a Samsung Eternity as a backup phone until the Tilt 2 comes out. I soooooooooo miss Windows, GPS, Voice Command..etc...so if I have to wait anything more than the first two weeks of October I am going to scold AT&T and hold a grudge.
Who the hell cares about their stupid bloatware...don't add it. I don't need teaser trials of stupid games and apps. If I want them I can install them myself.
I saw a writeup of the Verizon TP2 that said it supported GSM.
From their Website...
EV–DO, 1X RTT capable (Rev. A capable); GSM Quad Band (GSM/GPRS/EDGE); UMTS/WCDMA/HSDPA/HSUPA
Does that mean you can drop in a ATT sim and you are off and running?

I am tired of AT&T, all the other big guys has release it, and them keep the silence...
I am going to verify if the sprint one (wich has a Sim card) can be unlock... any one here knows that???
the new ATT rebate form is gonna be online 09-20 so lets see if the tilt 2 gonna be on that list...if so we are ready to hit that order button. but i agree i would but very piss if its a december release.
I considered a T-Mobile TP2, but I don't want that awful keymap where I'd have to shift constantly for every bit of punctuation. Waiting for the Tilt 2.

both sprint and verizon have a sim slot for international use if you travel...it can be unlock but most u can get it edge for ATT im not sure about tmobile.
im not sure how the flashing and installing custom rom will work on spring and verizon eventhough its clear they run on cdma but it also has sim slot running on gsm so i dunno if HARD SPL will work on it...ill just wait for ATT

TP2: Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, ... where to turn?

Wow - looks like everyone is about to come out with their version of the TP2. The question for me now is - who to sign up with? What are the pros & cons of CDMA vs GSM versions? I've read about bad customer support with Sprint. Who's got the better (stable, coverage, speed) network? Any incentive to go unlocked?
Thank you!
I'll be getting one w/ tmobile usa because of the plan prices, great support, and GSM any where in the world!!
im going with Verizon,, im a sales man, and i need a reliable network.. if i dont get any signal i will lose clients. so im going with the best network in the US. you want the best you have to pay for it.

Personally I never lose reception in the U.S but I guess it all depends, so that is a good reason to go with Verizon, but I am gonna get it for T-mobile cause of an existing contract, otehr wise I think I would want to get it for [email protected]
If you want a weakened and crippled phone with horrible customer service then Verizon is definitly the way to go.
If you want a Touch Pro2 that works worldwide, that can be unlocked to any network, then go with AT&T or T-Mobile. Personally, I would go with AT&T as they have a larger 3G coverage throughout the US.

I tend to agree, I am an ex- verizon guy and had to deal with the slow phone deliveries, dumb down hardware issues(Thank God for XDA) as well as the CDMA not in use with the majority of the rest of the world.
If you need world wide connectivity and the best US 3G, Att is your best bet, but to be honest who deploys first tends to win. I guess the race is on.
Price, world-wide connectivity, un-crippled phone features, and customer support all point to Sprint as the best choice for someone about to choose a carrier for the first time and wanting the TP2.
The reports you've read about Sprint's CS are BS. I've been with them for 3 years and have had many opportunities to work with customer support and have walked away from the experience satisfied and better off every time. They clearly have been and continue to work hard to turn around a bad customer service department, and it's paying off.
Also, in all that time I've not had a single dropped call, save for one area between me and my office that is a "dead zone" that no carrier apparently covers (I car pool and we all use different carriers. We all drop at the same place).
I vote for Sprint. Better data network than ATT and T-Mo combined plus i read that Sprint's version is going to be dual mode (CDMA/GSM 900/1800?).
So you get good CDMA coverage in the States and when abroad, pop in a SIM and use a local GSM network. Works for me that way.
First of all, the Sprint and Verizon versions ARE global. They are CDMA and GSM. Get it straight people.
I have been with Verizon since before they were Verizon, and I have had absolutely ZERO issues with customer service, billing, phone replacement, coverage, dropped calls, etc. That is also having lived in 2 different regions of the country in that time.
I agree, they're sometimes slow to release phones, and hopefully the TP2 crippling isn't reminiscent of the TP1, but we'll have to wait and see. It all comes down to the best network in your area. In mine, Verizon is hands down the best, followed by AT&T second, a tin can with a string 3rd, and Sprint 4th.

Yes, Sprint is CDMA, and the Touch Pro2 for Sprint and Verizon will be dual mode (CDMA/GSM).
im an existing tmo customer (very happy with their service) and am craving to get tp2, but willing to switch to at&t since my contract with tmo has expired and i might get a better price at at&t as a new customer
sprint .. eh .. not sure, maybe
would be great if someone could do an in depth side-by-side comparison of these companies, like prices, features, extras ..
for example, i found out that at at&t and sprint you get to listen to pandora for free, but not on tmo, also engadget figured that at&t has better 3G than others, stuff like that
in general, question stands - tmo, att or sprint?
well, the CDMA phones cannot use voice and Data at the same time. so that's a big deal.
coverage and network speed vary largely depending on area. and nobody knows what the phone will cost yet through any of the carriers.
good, something new, kinda rules out sprint

tmo hands down.... check billshrink.com to compare all four carriers (its not endorsed by any carriers by the way)
Hope this isn't a thread hijack.. what's the scoop on ROM support for CDMA versions of HTC phones? (I see the posts about TP2 being CDMA+GSM)
I've been here flashing ROMs for 8125/8525/8925, but always had a GSM version... and have really NOT noticed ROMs for the CDMA flavors of those phones..
Sprint appears to offer me the best price for a family plan with 2 data phones + messaging (~$130 vs. $170/month if I've got my info correctly), so I'm thinking heavily about dropping ATT after ~8 years... but wanted to be sure I wouldn't lose access to all the fantastic ROMs from XDA.

[Q] 4G, Prepaid?

So I had a Droid 3 on Verizon on a prepaid line ($95 for 450 talk, unlimited text, and unlimited data) but that was 3G.
With the gNexi coming out, I was wondering if I would even be able to use it's 4g capabilities on my prepaid line? I'm obviously going to buy it at full-retail price but will the 4G even work or will I be stuck on 3G all the time?
I can't do contracts...
Should I wait for T-Mobile to get it and use their 4G prepaid instead?
I'm unsure if VZW has a LTE prepay service. That's something you have to look into separately. My guess is they don't. Unless they explicitly say that your prepay covers LTE I would expect to only get 3G.
As far as switching to a different carrier no one can tell you which is better. Its all about where you will use the phone and its your call.
I just did an online chat with a VZW rep, here it is:
Please hold for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your patience.
You are now chatting with 'Kiara'
Kiara: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
You: I was wondering if 4G phones like the Droid Bionic are eligible for the Prepaid Smartphone plans???
Kiara: I do apologize for the inconvenience, although the Bionic is not able to be pre paid
You: Are their any 4G phones available for the Prepaid plans?
You: And/or can you tell me if there are any plans to offer any???
Kiara: I do apologize although at this time there are not
You: Ok, thank you for your help
So, looks like you can't, at this time, use a 4G phone on their prepaid plans.
I currently have a Nexus S on T-mobile's $30 month prepaid plan (100 mins, unl. text, unl. data*throttled after 5GB), and I love it but I don't use my phone much for calls... I plan on getting the Galaxy Nexus and using it on this plan once it's available.
Yeah it looks like I'll have to wait for the galaxy nexus to drop on TMobile
WoW this sucksss.... It probably won't even come out until late December...
Maybe I should just import? No idea how it works but I want my nexus asap

Look on the bright side... t-mo plans are cheaper than Verizon. So you'll save money if you switch. But then again tmo reception around your area would play a big role too.

If you have T-mo service in the area then its sooo much better. Just wait, don't import. You'll probably have to buy it unlocked (probably best buy, just like Nexus S) but you'll be better off for it. You don't want to sign a 2year for a Nexus on VZW and get blocked tethering and crap on it.

its all up in the air. As I said above ^, they might not "get it" officially at all. Might have to buy unlocked from Google/Best Buy.
But the winner is that the T-mo plans can be as low as 1/2 the price of VZW.

Actually they have a $30 Prepaid plan with 100talk/unlimited text/ and unlimited data (5gb of 4G) -- available only on new line activation.
Btw can you clarify the "unlocked from google/best buy" part? Would I still have to use a sim card if Tmobile wont officially sell it

Well if you want my opinion I think they'll end up just selling it exactly like they did with the Nexus S. They sold it online, and they offered it via Best Buy unlocked. You'd buy the phone, then buy your service and get a SIM card from AT&T or T-mobile (or Simple Mobile, or whatever) separately and plug it in. The GN is pentaband HSPA+ and will work with pretty much any SIM in the world.

Speaking from personal experience, the problem with T-Mobile in NYC is that as soon as you are a few feet below ground level, you lose signal. When you can get 5 bars, it's great, T-Mobile probably has the least congested network of anyone, and you enjoy superb 3/4G speeds. But you will be frustrated by how spotty the coverage is. Go 20 miles North to Westchester or 20 miles east to LI and you'll often find yourself exiting buildings to get a signal.

Lol that's alright I don't leave the city anyways. What I am wondering is what happens when you deplete your limited use of the 4g data (I'll get 5gb). Someone told me that you get bumped down to EDGE(2G) speeds, but I thought you only go down to 3G.

As I (and many others) explained in the other thread about T-mobile:
- You get 5GB of data, that's 4g/3g/2g.
- Once you use all 5GB in a month, you get throttled.
- Throttled speeds are in the range of what EDGE is, even though your phone still says "3G" up in the status bar.
- Once your billing period ends, you get a new 5GB batch of data.
There's no discerning between 4G and 3G by T-mobile. HSPA+ is just a fast version of T-mobile's 3G network. Its not separate.
Just curious has any one looked into metroPCS they say they allow any cdma phone on their network and they have lte. There speeds may not be the greatest and not the best coverage but the price is spot on and unlimited!

Don't think it'll work. You'd have to unlock it somehow, and even then I think theres going to be inconsistencies with the LTE frequencies they use, etc.

It won't be unlocked from the factory because 1) its CDMA/LTE with VZW specific bands, and 2) its being made to order for Verizon to subsidize it (which means they will SURELY dictate that its locked).
The Nexus devices have historically been sold full price without a carrier subsidy (and therefore are unlocked) because google wants them to be used anywhere in the world with any SIM card. This is different because there are carriers involved from the start (and the device is CDMA).
Also, I'm pretty sure the LTE won't be interoperable between the two carriers. Verizon will have their own proprietary network stack for use with their LTE service, and it uses slightly different frequencies from other carriers for LTE, specifically so that their devices won't be interoperable with other networks. They want you to buy a VZW phone and stay on VZW (dirty play, but that's how they roll).
Hope that clarifies things a little bit. Now no one knows for sure how much of the issues can be fixed with new firmware flashes, so I guess we'll see when it comes out. For example I know a lot of people use Sprint and Verizon phones with different custom firmware to run on networks like Virgin, Boost, and Cricket in order to cut down the monthly bill.

Well, you won't be able to put the SIM in the Nexus because the Charge uses a full sized SIM and the Galaxy Nexus uses a micro SIM. However, it would work if you cut your SIM down.

I disagree, at least from what the man at the VZW store told me.. The SIM is for LTE only, this I know to be true. I was informed that I would have to call VZW to switch between phones. I specifically asked this question because I had always used GSM phones before where you could swap SIMs freely.

Imnuts is correct. I switch devices all the time by moving my sim around. If it was LTE only, you could take it out and have at least voice service.

Huh. So this is only true for LTE phones? If I buy another LTE VZW phone I can just swap the SIMs freely and I will have service just like with GSM phones? So that means the SIM is NOT for LTE only like I was informed at VZW?

Correct. As long as the sims are the same size, its a matter of drop it in and power up.
If not, you have to cut down your sim or use a micro to full adapter.

Okay thanks. I know the people at the VZW store dont know everything but **** you would think they would know a simple thing like that. Hmm, just yesterday I was reading in a thread about data dropouts where the guy said it worked fine chen set to CDMA only but LTE cause dropouts, he said the solution was to get a new SIM and it has been working fine ever since. So the SIM has to do with CDMA and LTE. I am thinking about testing this with my buddies Droid2 Global.. Thanks again to both of you for correcting my misconception, I am pretty sure it is a widespread misconception too.
the LTE sim authenticates your phone to the network and registers it.
a coworker has a LTE ipad and he takes his SIM out of his phone and pops it into his ipad all the time and has internet access.

Very widespread misconception. Verizon says you simply cannot do it. I've yet to meet a Verizon employee who has said otherwise, unless they are techno geeks.

Cool beans, makes me want another LTE phone, to swap around on diff days. I dont know why I said I was gonna try it with my friends D2G, its not LTE, duh! This is very good to know and makes me really happy.
I swap my SIM between my Nexus and Charge sometimes (rarely) and it works fine. I have an adapter that I cut from an old SIM to use so the microSIM sits in the correct location. AFAIK, the LTE SIM takes care of activating the CDMA portion on it's own, allowing you to swap around as much as you like.

Verizon Compatibility...

Darn, looks like this awesome phone doesn't support Band 13, is there any chance we can get this phone on Verizon's network?

From Razer's website.... Wish you luck though and curious to what you find out.
What mobile networks will the Razer Phone work with?
The Razer phone will work with GSM networks, like AT&T, T-Mobile, and their subsidiaries. It will NOT work on CDMA networks like Verizon and Sprint.

You get it yet? Any luck???
I am on a Grandfather Verizon plan, and I can swap my sim. I get 4G data, but no Cellular. But if you dont want calls to disturb you, this is perfect.
Cheers

Same here. Data and text work, but no voice. It's weird because the phone rings and then doesn't connect.

I will tell you. The answer is no. I'm in Korea KT is CDMA. The data side works, UMTS B1 & LTE B1 B2 & B8 but the voice calls do not work. In phone drops even LTE if/when I attempt to make a call. Calls over Wifi isn't an option either since my carrier doesn't support it. Over here everyone uses VOIP anyways. Im not bothered by the lack of calling I rarely even use my 'phone' anyways. Plus I'm hoping to get back to the states soon and I will be back on AT&T.

I purchased the Razer phone and am using Verizon with it. There is a work around that their tier 2 tech team can do. They add your line just on their LTE(GSM) network ( No band 13 CDMA is utilized). So if you are in an area that has good to great LTE signal then you can get the phone. Mine works great at work and outdoors. My only issue is at home. I always had one bar with all my other phones and now I have no service. I am waiting for a Samsung 4g LTE extender from Verizon so that I can correct that issue.
Rumor has it, Verizon will make the shift to just LTE by the end of 2018. If and when this happens, CDMA band and cellphones will no longer work with their network.
Hope I helped anyone who has the phone or wants to buy it. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays.
Ok I got mine working on LTE as well but there's no phone capabilities. Sure u can send text and surf the internet but u can't make phone calls.

You can. Verizon needs to configure it on their end. I made calls all day today.

How did u talk to tier 2? cause most reps don't know their head from a hole in the ground
And if that's the case any LTE phone should work on their Network right?

I used Verizon's live chat initially. Reason for this is I was able to save the conversation and use it as a reference when I had to call back and got another rep. Also, good way for the tier 2 tech team to catch up. It took some time and persistence to get it right. Once the chat rep exhausts all their troubleshoots, they will escalate it to tier 2. A threat about me leaving and going elsewhere was used on one occasion.
It did take time and patience but I think the phone is worth the trouble. My Razer works just as well as my GS 7 edge. Just a reminder. It is on LTE only, so if you hit an area without LTE you will not function.

I did my own questioning with this and simply stuck my SIM card from my Google phone into my Razer and for while it worked but I noticed it didn't stick.
So I called Verizon and they told me that because my sim card was registered to my Google phone I would need to go and get a new sim and stock it into the Razer and it would then work on LTE and would stick

I am going to say no and you should try live chat again. I had ported out when I first got this phone back around Thanksgiving and I couldn't stand it and wanted back in to Verizon. When I came back in, they activated a new sim using a pixel 2, popped it in my phone and did some configs on their end. You do not need a new sim if your current sim is on a phone that has LTE service with same OS and on Verizon already.
What do u have ur settings set to because where I was verison couldn't get it working
