Adb seems to work fine until I do the loop command and go into recovery. Then the device isn't recognized. Any ideas what could be causing this?? This is waaay more confusing than rooting the g1 lol. Thanks in advance guys
Edit : Nevermind saw the disclaimer in the howto thread

Hey guys, I plan to root my 3G Slide with this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754669
However, I would like to know if it's possible to load Cynogenmod 5 or 6 on it before proceeding. Thanks
It seems so. The intructions say to have a ROM of your liking on the SDCard to flash. I've had root since the original method so I won't test. The article seem to answer you question though. I don't see the point in creating a new Topic

Regardless of how you root, you can load whatever ROM you want.

The only method I recommend for rooting is nbetcher's method, search the dev forum for it if you want. CM6 is the most current version for the Slide, why would you want CM5?
Also in the future questions should be posted in Q/A not development

I agree with cingall. I was one with problems getting the loop method to work consistantly, and the one you linked seems to be a chopped up version of nbethcers. I've rooted twice now using nbetchers method without issue and was originally running cyanogenmod.

Yeah I could never get the loop to work either it would never recognize my device in ADB. Luckily I stumbled across a post on Cyanogenmod's Slide forum that had an exploid root guide and that is how I finally rooted.
Nbetchers root method is definitely easier. In order to get the other method to work you have to unplug usb and loop then boot recovery but plug it back in before recovery pops up. It's really annoying. But to answer your question you should definitely load whatever rom you want onto the root of your SD card before rooting and then at the end you can flash it.
Im considering rooting, have a few questions though:
Which is the easiest guide to follow for an OSX user?
At what stage of the process is bricking most likely?
joe
1. this belongs in the Q&A section
2. Read the rom bible
3. As of now there's only 1 valid root method afaik... look up nbetcher's root method. It's even stickied.
3.5. I don't think you can brick the espresso with normal root method (unless something goes seriously wrong)
4. welcome to xda
EDIT: please do #2. It contains valuable info.
I didnt use nbetcher's method and it worked just fine for me. I went to the unlockr and it worked like a charm. Simple to use and Had a video.
p.s. IT wont let me post the sites so if u want just pm me and Ill message u the site

I've tried the unlockr method with no luck. I kept getting stuck in the boot loop. I guess us osx users are left behind.

Alright hey guys im new here.
But i really want to put a different rom on my slide. So i know in order to do that i need to be rooted. I cant figure out how to permently root it. Ive tried a ton of ways including the one on here and unlocker. i cant get it to work. The only way i can is by using universal androot. But thats just a soft root so i cant put a dif rom on it.
So im hoping some one can help me out. Someone that has actually done it on there slide would be awesome. Could you guys please give me a step by step on how you did it? Im kinda of a noob when it comes to this. Thanks guys
Btw right now i have the stock 2:1 froyo.
Do you have the 1.35 ota update installed? think the root method will be slightly different if you do.

How do I figure of if I have it or not?
its been awhile since I had stock on my phone but I think if u look at about phone and chk software version u should see either 1.27 or 1.35

Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
Okay I have 1.35
ok so here is the instructions I followed and it worked fine, I was on 1.35 just like you. Make sure you have the rom you want to use saved on your root directory of the sd card along with the other files from the instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754669
Just understand thr risks and the gains from rooting. Your responsible if the device gets bricked.

Also, once you root, to gain perma root, or S-OFF (for flashing custom splash1 and recoverys), use AlphaRev, its in the stickies!

i say if you have a computer, its easier and faster..just let me know what steps you are stuck in..as to download the files ill show you what to download.
Xologist just posted a root for supernoobs in the dev section which basically runs all necessary commands from a batch file with little user intervention, try that.

I'm trying to root my friends mytouch 3g slide and I'm stuck. I've searched the forum for all related issues and have received no answers.
I'm at this step in the rooting process:
5.Issue the following command: adb push exploid /sqlite_stmt_journals. Note: It MUST be in that directory - NO exceptions.
At this step I keep getting failed to copy 'exploid' to '/sqlite_stmt_jurnals' : Read-only file system.
The phone is in charge only and debugging mode is on. Also the cmd is in admin mode. I'm not sure what else I could be doing wrong. Please let me know..the mt4g was not this difficult.
what guide are you following?
by any chance are you on the latest update for it too? the new RUU update that came out
I am on the newest update unfortunately. It's buggy as hell actually in my opinion. That's why my friends wants it rooted and on cyanogen 7.
I'm using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754020
Is there a better one in your opinion. I never had this issue rooting my G1, Nexus One, or my MT4G.
the newest ruu(froyo) hboot cant be rooted as far as i know you may have to downgrade, then use that guide
There's a thread in the development section that shows u how to root the slide if u upgraded to the new software. I agree it is buggy as hell an nothing worked right.
