Im trying to root my wifes mt3gs, shes finally sick of espresso amd ready for cm!
I noticed theres about 3 differrent methods to root it..
If anyone has used these methods and can tell me which was more user friendly I would eternaly greatful, of course i prefer a "1-click-root" method but i dont think that exsists does it?
thanx in advance..
i have tried two methods, exploid was the most straight forward and easiest. cm6 does not yet support bluetooth.

One click method? Never seen that for the slide. I used Eugenes method to root which is in the slide Rom bible and so far I've been able to root all 3 slides Ive ended up with very easily. You will have to use command prompt on ur computer but if u watch the video its really not hard at all. This is my.first android phone and it was simple for me so try it out an let us know.

go with exploid
I agree with whgarner, I used the exploid method and that was fast and efficient
I used this method and strongly recommend it: HTC Slide root guide from cyanogenmod
The guide assumes that you have already setup Android SDK on your computer and that you have installed the correct drivers for your phone so if you have'nt done that already you will need to, as all the methods I have seen so far for the Slide require ADB. Lemme know if you got any questions.

I'm new to rooting, heard its what to do on g2s, but where do I start? I been looking around and doing research but I don't know where to start. I'm not a phone guru and need to be schooled. Where can I find the visionary temp root? It was taken off the android market.

Well first off, you shouldn't be rooting unless you know what your doing. This isn't like an iPod or iPhone. The slightless thing you do can possibly brick your phone.
www.google.com can help you find the visionary application... it will link you back to this forum. or you can go check the development thread.

Ill try to help you out. Click on the "Rooted and Booted" hyperlink in my signature below this. It will take you to my post where I have VISIONary r11 and instructions for root. BUT READ THE ENTIRE 1st POST OF THE THREAD FIRST!!!!!! Its the now famous "Perma Root" thread. Start with page one and make sure you see some of the wrong turns others went through. Ginuinely it's not hard at all to do. But be sure you miss no details to get it right trouble free.
I'm trying to root my friends mytouch 3g slide and I'm stuck. I've searched the forum for all related issues and have received no answers.
I'm at this step in the rooting process:
5.Issue the following command: adb push exploid /sqlite_stmt_journals. Note: It MUST be in that directory - NO exceptions.
At this step I keep getting failed to copy 'exploid' to '/sqlite_stmt_jurnals' : Read-only file system.
The phone is in charge only and debugging mode is on. Also the cmd is in admin mode. I'm not sure what else I could be doing wrong. Please let me know..the mt4g was not this difficult.
what guide are you following?
by any chance are you on the latest update for it too? the new RUU update that came out
I am on the newest update unfortunately. It's buggy as hell actually in my opinion. That's why my friends wants it rooted and on cyanogen 7.
I'm using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754020
Is there a better one in your opinion. I never had this issue rooting my G1, Nexus One, or my MT4G.
the newest ruu(froyo) hboot cant be rooted as far as i know you may have to downgrade, then use that guide
There's a thread in the development section that shows u how to root the slide if u upgraded to the new software. I agree it is buggy as hell an nothing worked right.

I suppose you are referring to the link below..
How-To [Root] The myTouch 3GS if you updated to Offical 2.2.1 and lost root

I guess I'll have to give that a shot and see what I can do. Just seems a little riduculous.. Thanks for the help!
Yes thats the thread. Let me know if u need help an ill see what I can do. I've rooted like 3 diff slides cause I keep getting stuck with ones that have problems so I think I have it down. Lol. Good luck.

I've tried every method out there to root my G2 and none have stuck! Will someone please help me here!
How can anyone help when they don't know what you have and haven't done yet?? You have to be specific if you expect to get anywhere

^What he said. Have you tried the methods found on wiki? The usual rules apply: do your research, stay away from visionary for perm-rooting, etc. I used a very easy and safe method and can post it here if you like.
If you follow these directions to the "t", you should get somewhere. My wife rooted her G2 yesterday following this set of instructions.

I just recently bought a G2 and updated its software...But I'm clueless where to start/how to root the phone. I looked through some stickies, but I got lost right away. Can anyone help or show me something a lot easier to follow? Thanks
Word to the wise, if the rooting process seemed too hard to do do not do it and stay stock, lot less risk of your phone bricking.

What software did you upgrade? You may have to downgrade to root, pay attention to software versions.

I'm on 2.2
Build number 1.22.531
Kerner 2.6.32.17
Hboot-0.82
Just follow the steps on the wiki like a member said. I had no experience whatsoever but managed to learn a little adb and successfully rooted my phone. Use the rage gfree method. It is simple with the least chance of bricking

The Wiki guide is right here, if you haven't found it yet:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
Just read up as much as you can before you start, and follow the instruction very carefully, and you will be fine.
The Gingerbread (Android 2.3) OTA that is currenlty being deployed is not currently rootable (and requires downgrading first to root), but you should be okay since you are still on the T-Mobile 2.2 ROM still.
What about doing this on Macs?

It should work on a Mac. Just dual boot into a Linux distribution.
Could someone post the Windows USB Drivers for the Vision?
The link is dead, and i couldn't find anything after I searched for it.
Can somebody also post T-Mobile G2 and HTC Desire Z: recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-vision.img (md5sum cbc776e7941ebf030e9fa39473d5b6f1)
? The link won't load, I'l borrow my friends windows to do this. Thanks so much!

Will this method work after doing a temp root? It seems a lot easier
As far as the usb drivers go, I used pda.net from the market. If after you install pda.net it still sees your phone as usb mass storage only, then unplug your phone, remove the current driver and plug it back in. It should ask you if you want to set up your new hardware and show it as an android device

Just download HTC Sync, it comes with the drivers:

There is a similar post about the Clockworkmod download. Might just be down temporarily. Try again later.

NO. And yes. Confused? Here is a link to the method myself and many others have used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928160
This is an "easy" method using Visionary to temp root ONLY and then G-free for perm root. Do not be tempted to check "perm-root now" on Visionary since there is a high brick risk. Anyhow, this method runs scripts so much less chance for typo errors... just follow the simple directions to the letter and you will be rooted in no time. Works like a dream.
That was easy! hah, this was a lot easier than what the wiki told me to do. Thank you so much
edit:i restored to my back up (phew ), but why does the CM screen keep on repeating after I try installing 7.03?
i rooted everything fine, but after installing CM 7, the boot logo keeps on repeating, and the home screen won't pop up. is there a fix for this? :/
No prob.
Did you do a full wipe before flashing CM7? Even if you did, I'd recommend a "Superwipe". This is a zip you flash from recovery like anything else, and it really gets to everything on your phone's memory. I don't have the direct link but you can download it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991254
It's down the page a bit, in the "attached files". The one on the top called SuperWipeG2+. Also, the ROM on that page is a nice one if you're looking for stuff other than CM. (Though CM is a good place to start)
I didn't do a complete wipe, I just did something else instead. I figured it out before checking this up, but thank you a lot for the help. +Thanks
