I'm trying to root my friends mytouch 3g slide and I'm stuck. I've searched the forum for all related issues and have received no answers.
I'm at this step in the rooting process:
5.Issue the following command: adb push exploid /sqlite_stmt_journals. Note: It MUST be in that directory - NO exceptions.
At this step I keep getting failed to copy 'exploid' to '/sqlite_stmt_jurnals' : Read-only file system.
The phone is in charge only and debugging mode is on. Also the cmd is in admin mode. I'm not sure what else I could be doing wrong. Please let me know..the mt4g was not this difficult.
what guide are you following?
by any chance are you on the latest update for it too? the new RUU update that came out
I am on the newest update unfortunately. It's buggy as hell actually in my opinion. That's why my friends wants it rooted and on cyanogen 7.
I'm using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754020
Is there a better one in your opinion. I never had this issue rooting my G1, Nexus One, or my MT4G.
the newest ruu(froyo) hboot cant be rooted as far as i know you may have to downgrade, then use that guide
There's a thread in the development section that shows u how to root the slide if u upgraded to the new software. I agree it is buggy as hell an nothing worked right.

I'll keep this short, but the two important steps that really help all of this is:
A: Download the Adroid SDK into ANY directory you want to.
B: In the Android SDK installation instructions page, it mentions a step to add the path to your ADB executable to your PATH environment variable on your computer. Do this so you can use ADB from any folder on your computer, and not have to worry about always running it from the folder you downloaded it to.
Thread moved to Q&A.
Im trying to root my wifes mt3gs, shes finally sick of espresso amd ready for cm!
I noticed theres about 3 differrent methods to root it..
If anyone has used these methods and can tell me which was more user friendly I would eternaly greatful, of course i prefer a "1-click-root" method but i dont think that exsists does it?
thanx in advance..
i have tried two methods, exploid was the most straight forward and easiest. cm6 does not yet support bluetooth.

Do you mean this thread?

One click method? Never seen that for the slide. I used Eugenes method to root which is in the slide Rom bible and so far I've been able to root all 3 slides Ive ended up with very easily. You will have to use command prompt on ur computer but if u watch the video its really not hard at all. This is my.first android phone and it was simple for me so try it out an let us know.

go with exploid
I agree with whgarner, I used the exploid method and that was fast and efficient
I used this method and strongly recommend it: HTC Slide root guide from cyanogenmod
The guide assumes that you have already setup Android SDK on your computer and that you have installed the correct drivers for your phone so if you have'nt done that already you will need to, as all the methods I have seen so far for the Slide require ADB. Lemme know if you got any questions.

Hey guys, I plan to root my 3G Slide with this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754669
However, I would like to know if it's possible to load Cynogenmod 5 or 6 on it before proceeding. Thanks
It seems so. The intructions say to have a ROM of your liking on the SDCard to flash. I've had root since the original method so I won't test. The article seem to answer you question though. I don't see the point in creating a new Topic

Regardless of how you root, you can load whatever ROM you want.

The only method I recommend for rooting is nbetcher's method, search the dev forum for it if you want. CM6 is the most current version for the Slide, why would you want CM5?
Also in the future questions should be posted in Q/A not development

I agree with cingall. I was one with problems getting the loop method to work consistantly, and the one you linked seems to be a chopped up version of nbethcers. I've rooted twice now using nbetchers method without issue and was originally running cyanogenmod.

Yeah I could never get the loop to work either it would never recognize my device in ADB. Luckily I stumbled across a post on Cyanogenmod's Slide forum that had an exploid root guide and that is how I finally rooted.
Nbetchers root method is definitely easier. In order to get the other method to work you have to unplug usb and loop then boot recovery but plug it back in before recovery pops up. It's really annoying. But to answer your question you should definitely load whatever rom you want onto the root of your SD card before rooting and then at the end you can flash it.
Ok so i really been trying to root my mytouch slide for the past 2 weeks. I haven't had any success, just been having all kinds of Errors. I'ved tried every rooting method out there for this device. Even the "ULTRA EASY ROOTER" method failed me. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and attempted to root the phone in 4 different computers and 3 different operating systems. I just don't get it. I know as of right now (5/10/2011) there isn't any root apk for the slide and its probably a little too much to ask for. But can someone please release a apk that can root the mytouch slide the latests ota? It'll really help and make people like me happy. Thanks in advanced.
If you have the latest OTA you are kind of screwed. It was posted many times not to update if you want to keep root. As of now, there is 1 and only 1 way to get root with the official OTA.
And how is that?

Thank you
Thank you so much !!!!!
I now have root
Glad I could help, welcome to the root community.
I can't root my replacement slide that I got today. I don't know if it's my software build but I've tired RootMeNow and MT3srooter which worked for me in the past. HELP PLEASE ANYONE!
Software # 2.15.531.3
Plenty of threads regarding different methods of getting it done. When i got my replacement a few months ago I had to try a few different ways than I had done originally. The No PC method is the one that did the trick.
No PC Method
I don't think that the software version, looks like the kernel version. You need to post the Android version, 2.1, 2.2 etc.
The No PC version does not work at least not for me it gets stuck at the AndRoot install and fails each time. Is it because my replacement is 2.2.1? Really want to root this phone!
First u have to A. Do the goldcard method...or be goto the general section of the slid form and. There will be titile new root method which is stard by me and thatw will give u root in 5 min. Link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108316
Hey go to the general forum on this phone and go to a post called "how to get the most out of your slide (root)" and at the bottom of the post there is a link to the only workin root method on the slide from what I tried hope this helps
