i say if you have a computer, its easier and faster..just let me know what steps you are stuck in..as to download the files ill show you what to download.

Xologist just posted a root for supernoobs in the dev section which basically runs all necessary commands from a batch file with little user intervention, try that.

[Q] Need help accessing system files Htc Evo

Hi Guys,
I am kinda new to Android and the Evo. I have OTA update 2.15.00.07.28 and have managed to sucessfully rooted my phone using Unvoked 3. I installed Baked Snack 1.7 Rom with Low Ridder theme. I have Rom manager 2.5.0.4 with ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.1. What I am having trouble doing is finding the system files! I searched the threads here / Google with no luck. I would like to be able to pull open all the system files from my Evo on my computer so I can better understand how Frayo 2.2 runs. When I boot into ClockworkMod Recovery and select mount sd card My files appear on my computer. However when I select mount system files nothing happens. I can't get a grasp of what mounting system files in the recovery does neither find a way to explore my Evo's system files. I saw a rooted app avaible for download in the app store that revieals system files on rooted phones but I would rather pull them up on my computer. I am using windows vista home 32bit OS. Thanks for any help in advanced.
Ok. For now, viewing your Android's true system files on your actual pc is impossible. However your can browse through them and make all the changes you need on your phone. First of all though. You need to be properly and fully rooted by using Toast's method part 1 and 2. This will properly root and unlock NAND protection on your phone to allow read/write access to /system. Unrevoked is **** for root as far as Im concerned. Although I would recommend using their S-off tool for further access. Search the XDA forums for toast's method for full root. But first, get comfortable with the mechanics of ADB. There are simple tutorials on XDA as well. After that make a small purchase and buy Root Explorer to browse everything you need! But be careful. Happy rooting XD

you can view any system file you want to view, on your computer. pull the file using adb, change it, push it back.
i'm not going to give a tutorial on adb though. there are plenty of threads about it.
If you just want to explore the system files and poke around, I would suggest downloading the ROM you are using and just unzipping to look at the files. If you want to go deeper you can download an android kitchen and decompile.

True. But consider the normal user, who in this case didn't even know how to properly root. I was suggesting the most problem free way for him.

Hey thanks for all the replys. I did not know evoked don't fully unlock the phone. I will look into toast tutorial. Was in kinda a hurry found the first thing on rooting and thought it worked because it allowed me to install roms. I have net seeing a lot on adb I think when I can find some time I will look into that as well.

ok so here is the instructions I followed and it worked fine, I was on 1.35 just like you. Make sure you have the rom you want to use saved on your root directory of the sd card along with the other files from the instructions

Just understand thr risks and the gains from rooting. Your responsible if the device gets bricked.

Also, once you root, to gain perma root, or S-OFF (for flashing custom splash1 and recoverys), use AlphaRev, its in the stickies!

[Q] Rooting my phone....

I just got my G2 phone not too long ago and I want to start doing this modding stuff. (I've never had a smart phone before, this is the first). And I'm not sure where to start... Can someone direct me into the right direction?
I used blackprince310's video to help me root my phone.
http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=/&gl=US#/watch?xl=xl_blazer&v=tU9zn_BEth4
Once rooting you can download other ROMS. Which are like differnt OS. Like g2 runs stock froyo let's call that windows xp. When you root it u have the capabilities to modifiy without problem. Now u can put like sense on your phone that's like windows 7 persay.
Three main apps u need from app store are ROM Manager, Titanium Backup, & Superuser. Other ones could be gscript, terminal. & in video u need Visonary.

Is there an alternate way? Because I had been doing some reading on ppls feedback on diff threads n the visionary way seems to be a way to brick your phone or an unsafe way to go.
can anyone please help?
Goto development and find the stickies on rooting without visionary, I did it that way. Simple and haggle free and nothing to worry about, first time g2 user

Just follow the simple wiki guides. Don't use Visionary to perm root.
Youtube the unlockr for htc vision. You use the VISIONary app to temproot, then you can gain permroot after finishing both tutorials. They're very clear and concise tutorials, I actually followed it a few months ago knowing absolutely nothing about root or adb.

Use rage.
Visionary used to be a one click root app. However, it caused problems for some users. The unlockr corrected the issue in the tutorial. You will first gain temproot through visionary, copy files and run some adb commands via desktop, then gain permroot and s-off again through visionary. Its really easy, all you have to do is copy him. I did it myself in november and my phone still runs flawlessly.

If you use Rage (the method I linked to earlier), you won't need to downgrade. Just type in the commands using ADB and Terminal Emulator and flash ClockworkMod Recovery through ROM Manager and you're good to go.
See I want to do it thatf way but I can't figure out ADB I'm stuck at one part at on that noob guide. :/ I can't figure out how to use the cd command to go to the file wwith adb on it which is on my desktop ....(using the fast method for windows xp). Then I tried the other way and I could never get the path part right.

If you haven't already figured out the adb problem, no, you don't have to downgrade to use the other method. But then, I don't know what would happen if you switch from one rooting method to another. Especially when you're right in the middle of it xP

[Q] Can't write to /system

I'm trying to root my friends mytouch 3g slide and I'm stuck. I've searched the forum for all related issues and have received no answers.
I'm at this step in the rooting process:
5.Issue the following command: adb push exploid /sqlite_stmt_journals. Note: It MUST be in that directory - NO exceptions.
At this step I keep getting failed to copy 'exploid' to '/sqlite_stmt_jurnals' : Read-only file system.
The phone is in charge only and debugging mode is on. Also the cmd is in admin mode. I'm not sure what else I could be doing wrong. Please let me know..the mt4g was not this difficult.
what guide are you following?
by any chance are you on the latest update for it too? the new RUU update that came out
I am on the newest update unfortunately. It's buggy as hell actually in my opinion. That's why my friends wants it rooted and on cyanogen 7.
I'm using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754020
Is there a better one in your opinion. I never had this issue rooting my G1, Nexus One, or my MT4G.
the newest ruu(froyo) hboot cant be rooted as far as i know you may have to downgrade, then use that guide
There's a thread in the development section that shows u how to root the slide if u upgraded to the new software. I agree it is buggy as hell an nothing worked right.

[Q] help rooting

hello,
my brother just got an evo 4g and he want me to root it. he says he cant do anything with all the bloatware and its driving him insane. i ve been doing some research here, but im highly confused. i rooted my zte merit, but all of the instructions for rooting the evo are way more complex and advanced, plus most ppl are flashing a custom rom when they do it. i don't want to flash any rom if its possible. with my zte merit i did a few things with the command prompt and then i pushed the su binary to the phone and it was all done. i was hoping somebody could either post the simplest method of rooting the evo 4g or maybe put up a link to a guide. thank you. i'm sorry if i seem a little uncomprehending but android phones are still new to me. ive always been more of a computer girl myself.
Follow this video guide. Let me know if you run into any issues.
