2nd rate TURD! - Desire General

Geeessss I've just had a 8 week argument with vodafone with b1tch slapping letters about my HTC Desire dropping calls... the recipients phone rings and cuts off.. then the Desire bleeps.. thats it... sent it back with a snotty letter saying the hardware was faulty which they wouldn’t replace..
Bought my own Desire SIM free.... put my own sim (different SIM) in it.. same problem...
The Desire is a FLAWED phone... sorry! its a piece of junk!
EBAY... this phone is a turd compared to my HD! Gess I have had enough of HTC!
This cant just be me!!!

Bye bye then

was the other sim the same network?

Not had this problem myself. But I used to be with vodafone when I had a Diamond and I had the same problem. Not had it with o2 or orange though.

Vodafone and TalkMobile... guess its the same network,,, Geess this phone is driving me mad!
Just tied it agian! same thing...... even my mates that I call are asking why I keep hanging up!

In just over 3 months with my Desire on T-Mobile, not once have I had a dropped call. Even though I have a pretty consistant 2 bar signal in my house, I'd say that is pretty good.

Appreciate the construtive reply... but tried this.. moved from Vodafone to Talkmobile in the UK... sorta the same company...ish, same thing try and call phone just bleeps... we have a thing here with mates ringing your phone and hanging up.. wanting a call back.. sorta like being a tight ass.... I'm fast getting that reputation! by no means of my own!
Different hardware.. same problem.

Actually had mine drop a call 20 minutes into it tonight, noticed that facebook had sync'd at roughly the same time so guess that for some reason the phone prioritised the data connection over the call?

You know there is something called warranty right??

I have a lot of problems calling out. I'll dial and my Desire will wait a few seconds before bleeping and aborting.
I also have a lot of problems with sending text messages.
I live near the top of a hill and always have 4 bars!
I'm with Vodafone.

Thank you! this is exactly what I have! I have a heap of signal! I can walk out into the field next to my house and its exactly the same!.... I put the SIM out of interest in a 9 year old Sharp GX30 which hardly holds a charge... not ONE bleep of a dropped call! same sim!
I was with Vodafone but now talkmobile (technically same people) but its strange that my 9 year old GX that I only charged up a few nights back has no problem makin the same call...

Sounds like a Vodafone problem to me.

I never had a problem with my old Nokia before upgrading to the Desire.
I was hoping the last OTA update would fix the problem - as it fixed the re-connecting to the network problem, but nope.
I was wondering if was caused by a busy network? It's like trying to call someone at midnight on New Year's Eve! I'm not sure how to test this theory.

Na, can't be i'm on Virgin UK, and i get exactly the same.
But not that often thankfully,
Sometimes when i call out, i get "beep" dead, Re-call.....
And i constantly have the sms not sent problem, somethimes even with 2 bars.
I have a feeling it more to do with the radio, I know for a fact i have one of those original HTC Desire's, Also have the dust under the screen problem....
But with all its faults, Geeba cannot say its second rate turd, its still an excellent phone, hes just had a bad personal experiance with it.
The phone fills all my needs and more and Yea with most devices their are a few niliging problems but their to be expected, as well all know HTC like to release without FULLY testing as they know the user will call and complain if its not working
But i did see a thread the other day where some guy siad he flashed the latest radio which seemed to elevate all these exact problems (apart from the dust under the screen
Anyway Geeba chin up, just try flashing a radio and see how you get on, I'm personally waiting for official Froyo as its bound to have a radio in it

Desire is a piece of crap

I came to this conclusion 20 minutes ago, when my Desire went to hell again after 3 f*****g days from return from repair!!!
It froze during absolutely normal usage. After pulling out battery, it stuck in bootloop. Bootloader stopped working after connecting to laptop, fastboot failed to connect to laptop and bootloader won't start at all anymore. Hard reset didn't work.
As I said: Piece of crap.
Murphy's law: "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong"
Well, i'm sorry for that, if i was u, I'd take the opportunity to take a new phone
Not sure if I can do that.
I quite like my Desire to be honest.
Although I must say I played with a Metro UI theme today, and I liked the UI a lot.
I also finally got round to adding a custom ROM last night. Tried a few, and now settled on one.
The limited memory issue isn't one if you know what you're doing.
And I was lucky enough to get an OLED screen.
I would cry though if I had to send it in and they returned one with a SLCD.
So I can feel your pain, a little.
Question: Is it normal that Desire gets warm below battery? Because, it gets seriously warm after few seconds. Perhaps an overheating issue?
Maybe you experienced the dreaded overheat problem...
After a few seconds..?
Even on idle..?
IMHO it's not normal...
Search for the Desire reboot / overheat thread...
See if you have the same symptoms...
ok I love a piece of crap...
I think you should send it to repair again

A groundbreaking phone when it was released and gave Apple a shake-up they are still yet to recover from.
Sorry to hear your device is having issues, but to suggest this phone is a POS, based purely on one bad experience, is seriously missing the forest for the trees.
Best phone I ever owned and will have it for a long time to come. So glad I bought this and not anything else.

It's either an overheating issue, or you are doing a lot of network intensive work. Because the radio is located below the battery. I also suspect that the processor is also located there.

Totally agree with what you said. I have used my desire for a long time now and It's still one of the best phone I've ever encountered. So much that I've decided against getting sgs2 or even sensation. I will wait for quad core phones. LOL.

So I requested pick up for repair. Fourth in three months....
In Germany you can request an new phone after 3 repair attempts ...
Dont know if its also in Slovakia but try it
I take I should ask new phone from HTC, right? Or from repair center?
Yes, you should definitely try that!

Seems logically to the repair center for me..ask they
This applies to Slovakia also:
If they do not manage to repair within 30 days, you can request your money back.
If your phone gets broken 3 times (not sure if it should be the same problem) you can get your money back.
So found it, sorry for posting in slovak language:
V prípade, že má vec súčasne najmenej tri rôzne odstrániteľné chyby, pričom každá z nich bráni v riadnom užívaní, má spotrebiteľ právo rozhodnúť sa, či uplatní právo na výmenu tovaru alebo na vrátenie peňazí. To isté právo má aj vtedy, ak sa rovnaká chyba, aká bola najmenej dvakrát opravovaná, vyskytne tretíkrát v záručnej dobe.
So it has to be the same fault.
Anyway I would still try to get my money back, or a replacement phone.

I had a few similar situations like yours. All of them happen when I was using a 3rd party battery. Maybe you want to ask the repair center to check the battery?
Is just a piece of hardware which will brake down.
Unfortunately you are unlucky and it happens often then to others (I'v send mine once for repair in 13 months).
If I was in your position, I would ask for new phone (as it broke so many times).
When you get a new one sell it on eBay, add couple hundreds $ and you have an upgrade .
Easy
Or if you really don't like it. Sell it and buy an iPhone ;-P

[Q] One V Death Grip Prob

Hi...Anyone noted signal drop in wifi and radio signal when holding the in normal position?
Oh yes, I'm happy because I have an iPhone 4 feature :-(
Yes even i feel the signal drops when u hold it in a certain way. Not very sure where though.
I'm not losing signal (yet) but it definitely is dropping 1-2 bars.
Will a case help like it did for the iPhone deathgrip?
edit: fail, somehow i was in the V instead of X forum. but sounds like the same problem for all of them from what I'm reading/experiencing.

I think you were out of your element (somebody had to say it!)
mine too. when I put it on the table I got 4-5 bars. but when I pick up the phone to reply a message, my signal drops a.k.a. No Service... ****. it's supposed to be a great budget phone, isn't it? if this death grip is one of their feature, this feature is definately uncool.
if this problem can be fixed, they better fix it soon..
Just use the one V for a short period of time but did not encounter this problem.

Same here..
My One V absolutely does not have this problem. Neither did the unit reviewed by gsmarena.com:
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_v-review-750p7.php
We tested the phone for death-grip and we didn't find any problems - Wi-Fi signal drops if you completely cover the top plastic panel on the back, but the reception still remains quite strong. Cell signal didn't budge.

I also have this problem. My One V always drop 2 bar when I pick up the phone. While other mobile with the same network, the signal is full.
I contacted Call center once. He told me it's because of my network operator. I should try other operator but I don't want to change my number.
So, I still hope new firmware will solve this issue.

Lost Phone

So I lost my phone last night, think it may have been in the taxi and have been in touch with the company so will hopefully hear back but I am doubtful, seriously gutted. Lesson being, turn on the GPS and find my phone crap, as much as you may think it drains battery etc DO IT. Wish I had done now, tons of pics of my 2.5 year old twins gone now. Next phone I get will definitely have all that crap turned on 24/7.
Plan B by Lookout
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb
Hit the install button which should push it to your phone.
The app will auto start and send location details to your Google account email address.
(further instructions in the link)
Leaving GPS on in the background uses little battery power as long as you don't have apps accessing your location every few minutes as it only uses power when it needs to update the location.
Regarding your photos. I would recommend using a feature built in to both Dropbox and GooglePlus which uploads your photos and videos to the cloud. I have mine set to do this when on charge and connected via wifi so that it syncs every night and doesn't waste data and power during the day.
Good luck
+1 to drhunter's suggestions. PlanB for now, install something like Lookout (or one of the many others) once you've got it back (or replaced).
Also, as drhunter said, having GPS on drains no battery unless the GPS is used (unlike Bluetooth or Wifi) - that it is thought to do so is nothing but a myth.

That's the thing to do and as far as I'm aware, having GPS enabled doesn't drain the battery until an app makes use of the GPS.
I use Seekdroid on my phone and Tab, I haven't needed to use it yet, but it's reassuring to know that it's installed .... just in case!
I hope your phone gets returned ASAP. Good luck.

IMIE blocks are done by the operator not the handset manufacturer, And are operator independent, so block it at att&t and till still be usable in version (i assume these are your primary American networks)

[Q] Need help in fixing a phone/signal problem

Good day guys!
I need help in fixing my Sony Xperia SL. Most of the time my friends keep telling me that they are unable to call me. They keep getting the "subscriber cannot be reached" message despite the fact that I have good signal reception.
I transferred my sim to a different phone and the problem is gone. I try a different sim in my xperia SL and the same problem, no calls get through.
I really need help guys as my phone is barely a week old and is not rooted.
I can send/receive texts. I can make calls though sometimes I get the busy tone as soon as I dial the number.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem???
THANKS!!!
Try re flashing firmware, a lot of U owners had problems with updates and just a re flash sorted em

Turns out that build 4.0.4 of android has this problem and that it affected a lot of galaxy nexus owners. I know that I have a Sony but I am guessing that, unluckily I may have been affected by this bug as well :'-(...

If you have even flashed a RUU, then it may be a hardware problem. Try with another sim card. Same thing happening?

But you could give it a try, just make sure to ask for the price. Sometimes it's better to buy a new one
