[Q] One V Death Grip Prob - HTC One V

Hi...Anyone noted signal drop in wifi and radio signal when holding the in normal position?

Oh yes, I'm happy because I have an iPhone 4 feature :-(

Yes even i feel the signal drops when u hold it in a certain way. Not very sure where though.

I'm not losing signal (yet) but it definitely is dropping 1-2 bars.
Will a case help like it did for the iPhone deathgrip?
edit: fail, somehow i was in the V instead of X forum. but sounds like the same problem for all of them from what I'm reading/experiencing.

I think you were out of your element (somebody had to say it!)

mine too. when I put it on the table I got 4-5 bars. but when I pick up the phone to reply a message, my signal drops a.k.a. No Service... ****. it's supposed to be a great budget phone, isn't it? if this death grip is one of their feature, this feature is definately uncool.
if this problem can be fixed, they better fix it soon..

Just use the one V for a short period of time but did not encounter this problem.

Same here..

My One V absolutely does not have this problem. Neither did the unit reviewed by gsmarena.com:
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_v-review-750p7.php
We tested the phone for death-grip and we didn't find any problems - Wi-Fi signal drops if you completely cover the top plastic panel on the back, but the reception still remains quite strong. Cell signal didn't budge.

I also have this problem. My One V always drop 2 bar when I pick up the phone. While other mobile with the same network, the signal is full.
I contacted Call center once. He told me it's because of my network operator. I should try other operator but I don't want to change my number.
So, I still hope new firmware will solve this issue.

I don't know why my V is probably the most faultless phone I have ever bought only seconded with the Desire..

2nd rate TURD!

Geeessss I've just had a 8 week argument with vodafone with b1tch slapping letters about my HTC Desire dropping calls... the recipients phone rings and cuts off.. then the Desire bleeps.. thats it... sent it back with a snotty letter saying the hardware was faulty which they wouldn’t replace..
Bought my own Desire SIM free.... put my own sim (different SIM) in it.. same problem...
The Desire is a FLAWED phone... sorry! its a piece of junk!
EBAY... this phone is a turd compared to my HD! Gess I have had enough of HTC!
This cant just be me!!!
Bye bye then
was the other sim the same network?
Not had this problem myself. But I used to be with vodafone when I had a Diamond and I had the same problem. Not had it with o2 or orange though.

Vodafone and TalkMobile... guess its the same network,,, Geess this phone is driving me mad!
Just tied it agian! same thing...... even my mates that I call are asking why I keep hanging up!
In just over 3 months with my Desire on T-Mobile, not once have I had a dropped call. Even though I have a pretty consistant 2 bar signal in my house, I'd say that is pretty good.

Appreciate the construtive reply... but tried this.. moved from Vodafone to Talkmobile in the UK... sorta the same company...ish, same thing try and call phone just bleeps... we have a thing here with mates ringing your phone and hanging up.. wanting a call back.. sorta like being a tight ass.... I'm fast getting that reputation! by no means of my own!
Different hardware.. same problem.
Actually had mine drop a call 20 minutes into it tonight, noticed that facebook had sync'd at roughly the same time so guess that for some reason the phone prioritised the data connection over the call?

You know there is something called warranty right??
I have a lot of problems calling out. I'll dial and my Desire will wait a few seconds before bleeping and aborting.
I also have a lot of problems with sending text messages.
I live near the top of a hill and always have 4 bars!
I'm with Vodafone.

Thank you! this is exactly what I have! I have a heap of signal! I can walk out into the field next to my house and its exactly the same!.... I put the SIM out of interest in a 9 year old Sharp GX30 which hardly holds a charge... not ONE bleep of a dropped call! same sim!
I was with Vodafone but now talkmobile (technically same people) but its strange that my 9 year old GX that I only charged up a few nights back has no problem makin the same call...
Sounds like a Vodafone problem to me.

I never had a problem with my old Nokia before upgrading to the Desire.
I was hoping the last OTA update would fix the problem - as it fixed the re-connecting to the network problem, but nope.
I was wondering if was caused by a busy network? It's like trying to call someone at midnight on New Year's Eve! I'm not sure how to test this theory.

Na, can't be i'm on Virgin UK, and i get exactly the same.
But not that often thankfully,
Sometimes when i call out, i get "beep" dead, Re-call.....
And i constantly have the sms not sent problem, somethimes even with 2 bars.
I have a feeling it more to do with the radio, I know for a fact i have one of those original HTC Desire's, Also have the dust under the screen problem....
But with all its faults, Geeba cannot say its second rate turd, its still an excellent phone, hes just had a bad personal experiance with it.
The phone fills all my needs and more and Yea with most devices their are a few niliging problems but their to be expected, as well all know HTC like to release without FULLY testing as they know the user will call and complain if its not working
But i did see a thread the other day where some guy siad he flashed the latest radio which seemed to elevate all these exact problems (apart from the dust under the screen
Anyway Geeba chin up, just try flashing a radio and see how you get on, I'm personally waiting for official Froyo as its bound to have a radio in it

Any issues with new hardware?

Has anyone who recently bought a one x (SH25) had any hardware problems with them? Not screen flicker but flex and gaps etc. I have heard about this wifi issue but are there any others? I had to return my previous handset because of faults and I now have a sgs3 which I dislike :/. I would really like to get a one x again but I'm scared ill end up getting a dodgy one and going through this whole process again.
Or HT25? I want to try and pick one up today and I hope its good
I had to return my firste One X because I had a yellow spot in one corner.
The new one works but still could not realy satisfy me. The Signal strengt of WiFi and 3G could be realy better and also had some problems while pairing it to my BT Audio System.
What was the batch number of those?
HTC One XL in Hong Kong that I just purchased has really really bad battery life and really bad rear speaker. Zoom in on images after to see how fuzzy and blurry they get. On Facebook uploads you will easily see this.
Anyone from the UK with a new one x?
I'm in the UK, I started with a sim free black/grey hox, I took it back after 5 days with poor WiFi signal. They swapped it straight away for a new one. This one is a white one. Everything is perfect with it. The only complaint I would have is that the white casing is slowly starting to get grubby. it is fully updated to the latest 1.29.11 update, the battery life is as expected, I manage to get two days life out of it unless I use it constantly all day.
No screen flicker. No auto brightness issues.

I just noticed my wifi problem is well this evening. I found that as long as I am near the wifi router my wifi reception was perfect but the minute I stepped away I got no connection and finally dropped refusing to reconnect so basically if you are in a hotel and they have the wifi router in the hallway between the rooms so that most people can pick up wifi you are going to be screwed as your wifi on the HTC One XL won't be picking this signal up.
Yeah my WiFi was really bad, even standing next to the router I would only get 2 bars signal as soon as I went into the next room it would drop down to 1 bar, and then going upstairs was a definite no no. Since it was replaced with a new one I can now go all over the house getting full signal and fast download speeds (before I couldn't even watch a YouTube clip, not even on standard definition) and even go out in the garden and get a decent signal. You should maybe think about getting yours replaced/repaired if you can.

and you should have read what the wifi fault is all about. wifi gets BETTER when you push the spot on the back. so its a hardware fault and no user fault.
Sorry buddy if u feel it's crowded but I really see the need to create a new thread.... Thanks for your awesome reply I am sure your answer is creating a confusion I clearly asked has one sent the fone to workshop and did not ask or an option on how to hold the phone and ignore a factory fault in the device.... So good luck holding your device and not pressing and be happy with your hox
Thanks for your time and reply

Don't live in India, but have a HOX intended to be sold there. WiFi fluctuates at times, but the three times I've tried the squeeze test my signal actually dropped (good thing). Just give HTC a ring rather than going into the store

Since there is a Indian owners thread, it would have made sense posting there.
As for your issue, its reverse death grip like N3m3515 mentioned. If your wifi improves on squeezing the region between volume and camera, you have the issue.
And for HTC Service center in India, just put a sofware like wifi analyzer on your phone to prove you're facing the reverse death grip and argue with them about it being a hardware issue and not software issue. I haven't dealt with them, I myself am facing this issue but my warranty is in the UAE and trying to get it fixed here(India) is chargeable by $35(cost of sending it to an international htc service center -_-)
So I have to wait till I go back to the UAE and hope they don't catch my phone having been unlocked by HTC Dev.
Hello, I am from india and looking for buying a new phone. Can you please tell me what are the problems and disadvantages of HTC ONE X.

I had the WiFi issue and I got the same reply when I called HTC support. Subsequently, I went to the service center and explained the issue in detail. I was issued a DOA immediately. If this does not help, you can write to [email protected] and [email protected] explaining your problem and demanding that your phone be fixed or replaced. Also, make sure you are actually facing the problem.. a lot of people (like LakshayX) don't understand the issue and few others are simply paranoid. The only way you can get your phone fixed is to keep following customer support and escalating the issue till you get a satisfactory reply. Hope that helps.

How to fix GPS on HTC ONE X , bouncing , and lock problems on satelits ( Tutorial )

For those who have problems with GPS on HTC ONE X i make a tutorial how to fix this.
This method work perfectly for me,and for other users.
If you are not scare to open your phone fallow this steps like in tutorial.
Method 1
1: open your phone to reveal what is inside
2: pull up those connectors shown in photo
3: close back
4: everifing is fix
Method 2
Instead of pulling up thouse pin ,use a soldering iron and put some soldering on the spot where pins touch the antena .
THIS WORKS BECOUSE AFTER THAT THE CONNECTOR APLY MORE PRESURE TO ANTENA AND NOW THE CIRCUIT IS COMPLETE
Hope this will fix all your problem with GPS, WIFI, Signal
PLEASE GIVE CREDIT IF THAT HELP YOU TWO!!

This method worked perfectely for me
Excellent - this is the only thing that actually fixes this hardware issue.
I follwed your tutorial. Bought a pack of 5 plectrums off EBay for 99p to open the HOX like you did in the video.
Best 99p ever spent.
A lot better than sending phone away for 2 weeks only to hope it may be fixed.
Took 5 minutes, did it myself and don't lose all your data like you do sending it to HTC.
As I mentioned in another post, I had given up hope on my GPS, but didn't want to send off my One X due to root, custom ROM and stories of long waits without the phone actually being fixed.
This fix worked perfectly for me.
If you are having GPS problems and have the nerve, I suggest you try this.

Didn't really notice a difference for me (HTC One X Intl) and on top of that, i broke a wifi pin and damaged a network pin....

You can try to soldering a wire from brocken pin to antena. If u can do that your problem will be fix. I know for sure becouse a friend happening the same like you and he fix with a wire
I dont have a soldering iron and i'm not gonna buy one just for a pin. I havent noticed any wifi problems, I still connect to 2.4GHz and 5Ghz and speed is still the same and with the network, its on 1 or 2 bars but i am inside and it usually is on that anyway and the GPS is not fixed, if anything, worse. But again, i am inside.

Soldering wires is not a good solution, they will act as antennae, which are a specific length tuned to the desired frequency.
Outside the gps was pretty good, the wifi is only one one pin and i notice no difference. GPS gets about 20 inside (used to be about 25-30) and outside i get about 35-40 (same).

OH GOD GUYS PLEASE STOP this is the same thing that I saw back in the Desire HD forums, and it ended poorly for pretty much everyone.
Do NOT try this unless you are out of warranty, the GPS antenna connectors are VERY thin and VERY weak, and it is VERY easy to SNAP them!

I have no warranty too!
I want to know if its a Hardware Problem or not?
And morover is there a solution for it? Has anyone faced it till now?

backup your data and try a factory reset, if again it don't work you may have hw issues :S
I think its hardware problem.. Just like the famous wifi antenna issue.
Your HOX's antenna pin must have bent down, and its not touching the case anymore. That's why you are having a poor signal reception..
Take apart your HOX and look for the bent pin. Refer this guide for more details:

I showed it to a service centre near by and he says this PROBLEM has no solution at all..
He says there's something wrong with the Amplifier Box on the mother board and it needs to be replaced to make network work and he says though after it is replaced it has only 50-50 chances of working or the motherboard getting doomed totally!
