So I lost my phone last night, think it may have been in the taxi and have been in touch with the company so will hopefully hear back but I am doubtful, seriously gutted. Lesson being, turn on the GPS and find my phone crap, as much as you may think it drains battery etc DO IT. Wish I had done now, tons of pics of my 2.5 year old twins gone now. Next phone I get will definitely have all that crap turned on 24/7.
Plan B by Lookout
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb
Hit the install button which should push it to your phone.
The app will auto start and send location details to your Google account email address.
(further instructions in the link)
Leaving GPS on in the background uses little battery power as long as you don't have apps accessing your location every few minutes as it only uses power when it needs to update the location.
Regarding your photos. I would recommend using a feature built in to both Dropbox and GooglePlus which uploads your photos and videos to the cloud. I have mine set to do this when on charge and connected via wifi so that it syncs every night and doesn't waste data and power during the day.
Good luck
+1 to drhunter's suggestions. PlanB for now, install something like Lookout (or one of the many others) once you've got it back (or replaced).
Also, as drhunter said, having GPS on drains no battery unless the GPS is used (unlike Bluetooth or Wifi) - that it is thought to do so is nothing but a myth.

That's the thing to do and as far as I'm aware, having GPS enabled doesn't drain the battery until an app makes use of the GPS.
I use Seekdroid on my phone and Tab, I haven't needed to use it yet, but it's reassuring to know that it's installed .... just in case!
I hope your phone gets returned ASAP. Good luck.

IMIE blocks are done by the operator not the handset manufacturer, And are operator independent, so block it at att&t and till still be usable in version (i assume these are your primary American networks)

Funny thing is... his phone was s-off and was running the 2.15 TEST ROM.
HTC Test roms have location enabled all the time, you cannot disable it, even with root.

Actually had mine drop a call 20 minutes into it tonight, noticed that facebook had sync'd at roughly the same time so guess that for some reason the phone prioritised the data connection over the call?

I never had a problem with my old Nokia before upgrading to the Desire.
I was hoping the last OTA update would fix the problem - as it fixed the re-connecting to the network problem, but nope.
I was wondering if was caused by a busy network? It's like trying to call someone at midnight on New Year's Eve! I'm not sure how to test this theory.

Na, can't be i'm on Virgin UK, and i get exactly the same.
But not that often thankfully,
Sometimes when i call out, i get "beep" dead, Re-call.....
And i constantly have the sms not sent problem, somethimes even with 2 bars.
I have a feeling it more to do with the radio, I know for a fact i have one of those original HTC Desire's, Also have the dust under the screen problem....
But with all its faults, Geeba cannot say its second rate turd, its still an excellent phone, hes just had a bad personal experiance with it.
The phone fills all my needs and more and Yea with most devices their are a few niliging problems but their to be expected, as well all know HTC like to release without FULLY testing as they know the user will call and complain if its not working
But i did see a thread the other day where some guy siad he flashed the latest radio which seemed to elevate all these exact problems (apart from the dust under the screen
Anyway Geeba chin up, just try flashing a radio and see how you get on, I'm personally waiting for official Froyo as its bound to have a radio in it
Hello all!
I have a problem with the galaxy Gio of my wife. I discussed this issue on a dutch android forum but we didn't find the solution, so I want to try it on xda.
The problem:
The phone is extremely slow after unlocking (not all the time but randomly). It costs about 30(?) seconds to call someone, when typing a message the letters from the first word appear when she is typing the 4th word etc.
When I wait for a while then everything works fine. Its only the first minute (?) after unlocking.
The phone:
Everything is original (launcher, Rom etc) except the simlock, that is removed. Android version is 2.2.6, phone is 3months old.
What did I already tried:
Factory reset
Place all apps (there are just a few apps, I think 10) on internal memory
Formatted sdcard
Install fast reboot to reboot on every unlock, but that was really bad.
Kill all tasks every half hour by advanced taskkiller
Now before using the phone my wife clicks on "kill al apps" from "advanced task killer" and then it works fine.
I have a Gio myself also and works much faster then my wife's Gio. But I rooted, have no space left on internal memory , have a costum launcher and also simlock removed. So it would be more logical when my Gio is slower...
Who can help us please? Cause my wife wants to throw the phone through the window
It exists always, but not as long. All you can do is overclock wife's phone and change rom. Then it should exist shorter and rarely
I don't think overclocking will help.that much. If I overclock the cpu with 10% (that will be the maximum I think) then will it take 27seconds to call someone instead of 30seconds.... If you need the emergency number it will be far to late
I have never had that problem on my Gio, it's much faster then my wife's.
It is absolute not normal, is there something I can check?
You should try and take it to service. They might fix it for free.

It's software problem. They would just change the rom from stock to stock... In my opinion, change her rom to CM7 for expample, and overclock CPU. It might help
I don't think they will repair it for free, because I removed the simlock. And it will costs weeks before I receive the phone back
Why is it a softwareproblem when I go back to factorysettings? When everthing is original everyone should have the problem I think?
No...
Believe me, you cant fix this yourself

Oké, thanks remco. I bought it online @kijkshop so I need to figure out how to give it for service. Direct to Samsung or to kijkshop.
Has anyone experience what time they need to repair? (because my wife needs her phone)
Hmm..
You can go to the "kijkshop" but they arent really specialists on this, so they might even give your bricked phone back without sending it to samsung..
But its the shop were you bought it, so...

I would agree that this is a hardware issue and the phone needs to be replaced or serviced.
did you buy the phone outright, or was it with a phone plan?
if bought with a phone plan (never heard of the shop your talking about) then it should be replaced no problem...
just don't mention the sim unlock....will most likely not ever be noticed.
If indeed you have a 2.2.x. You might want to update.
Install the PC software Kies and update to the latest
Do not lose your warranty
I bought the phone without a plan.
Kijkshop is a dutch company of stores and can be translated as "lookshop". All products in the store are behind windows. You can look at the products and write down the productnumber on a card and give it to the man behind the desk. He will pick it up from behind the store. They sell almost everything you want. But there are working only 1or 2 people behind the desk (but don't ask them for product information )
The phone is updated by kies.
Now my wife don't wants to bring it back to service because she can't mis her phone (or exactly facebook on her phone )

Hi,
I'm genuinely sorry if this is an often repeated thread, but I couldn't find anyone here suffering from exactly the same symptons as me.
I've had my One X for a couple of months, it's completely unrooted and has nothing on it you can't get from Google's app market. I'm with Orange, in the UK, so the phone's running all their default stuff.
My phone's been running quite hot ever since I got it, but, today, I had it in my pocket while I drove to work (20) minutes, and it must have overheated and turned itself off.
I couldn't turn it on, and, in my panic, I held the power button for ten seconds, and saw the buttons at the bottom flash. Since then, nothing at all, no charging light (from USB or mains). I've tried all combinations of power/volume button presses and absolutely nothing has happened at all. Nothing at all since the first button flashes on the first long power button press (10 seconds). Now, it's been like that for about 8 hours and has been on and off charge all day, to no avail. (no LED at all, at any point, red nor green).
I've just got back from holiday and have a tonne of pictures and vids I have probably lost, but want to try to recover. I'd be really, really grateful for the assistance of the experienced people here. I'm, as you may have picked up, a hopeless newb.
When I connect via laptop to USB, the computer (Windows 7) detects an APX device, whatever that is, but the automated driver installation fails. Nothing shows up in Windows explorer.
Is there anything I/You/We can do?
My last resort is to send it back to Orange, and ask if they can retrieve data, but I expect they'll just send a new phone and wipe/refurbish my old one for someone else.
Is it possible to send phones back to HTC for repair, without losing data?
And finally, although I've not seen anything on the screen at all, no bootloaders, no recovery screen, nothing, might some combinatin of my button-mashing have already wiped the phone?
On a scale of One to OH DEAR...how screwed am I?
Please help me, XDA!
Edit: Ah, I can see it as a device, actually. Shows up as an "APX Device", but I can't do anything with it.

Sorry, but no chance at all, the Htc service technician would directly replace a new board on your phone and discard the old one, meaning they wouldn't even bother try repairing the old board, and all you data would be on the old board.
and since the phone doesn't turn on, as i told u previously they wouldn't take the pain of repairing the old board and finding out if ur phone was rooted or not, they would directly replace the entire board. (at-least that's what they did to me, when i tried it  )

I'm not sure if your information is just from personal experience but the reason why any official repair center won't retrieve data is because of the action of doing so is tangled up in many privacy laws and it's not worth the hassle.
As far as I am aware HTC will repair anything that's within their skill set which is pretty much anything, but the cost of their labour is high and given the HTC One X is currently a £350 phone, it may not be worthwhile.
@OneX94 I can completely sympathise with you – such a ball ache to lose em after a holiday!
Can I ask about some of the more particular details of your phone? You said it was rooted – did you have a custom rom and CPU frequency adjustment apps etc?

Hello all,
Oh what fun I have had with this phone since I have had it. It now looks like I have this "Squeeze problem". I have verified against another one x and the BT range is literally 200% / 300% better than mine (running RC4 cyanogen).
I have suffered from horrific WIFI and BT since I got the phone, my nokia e5 has been my daily driver as it lets me use my sbh 20 headset without holding the phone next to my headset.
I have called HTC and they tell me they will take the phone but might charge me due to the fact that I unlocked my bootloader (which was done to improve my wifi and battery drain - hohum)
This was the last straw. After seeing that the new HTC one has already been S-Offed - and we still have nothing. I am really wondering why I bought this device.
But alas - I still want to use it to watch movies and surf at work - so I want to get the antenna sorted - but after watching the video I am not really thinking I want to do the procedure my self.
I CERTAINLY do not want to pay HTC money to repair their bad handy work.
Is there anyone on here that lives in London that would be willing to do the repair for me?
Of course I will pay. I cant even sell it like this as it just sucks to use it. Wifi drops every min etc.
Thanks all!
Lol I don't think anyone would want to be responsible for breaking your phone.
But really, just take your time while opening it gently, you might notice that the back is completely glued in (like mine). Just shove a guitar pick inside to scrap it all slowly off. I was extremely scared as well when I first opened it, but it becomes a piece of cake afterwards.

The same for my mate who also sent his back with a custom rom still on it. Unless they can prove that unlocking the bootloader caused the fault they have to accept the warranty.
The bottom line is the wifi issue is a known hardware design fault that cannot be affected by unlocking and flashing roms.

I was in Phones3u today and I nearly walked out with a GS4........Im glad i didn't.
Ok first of all i know that there are a lot of similar topics like i am making one right now. I've looked on each and every one of them but i still want to give it a try asking you guys for help. ( you guys may call me stupid after you read it)
So i was waiting for my bus after college, i had my headphones plugged in and phone(GALAXY GRAND DUOS) in my front pocket of my jeans, well the bus was kinda crowded so i hopped in, and i paused the music so i am not distracted at all. Well after i was able to find a place to stand and pushed my hand in my pocket, BAM!!. [/B]PHONE GONE!.. i asked people around to call my number but it was just ringing, I had put it in vibrator mode plus the battery was too low also.. So i got out of bus and tried to call my number borrowing phones from others.. It said its not reachable... AND THE BIGGEST BLUNDER I DID IS THAT I DIDN'T INSTALL ANY TRACKING APP ON MY PHONE..
is there any possible chance to track it via my imei number? I have pushed the app android lost on it but its still not registered, probably because my phone is still switched off or that guy has probably ****ed it up somehow. Or any other reason which you guys might know since u are more knowledgeable about the possibilities.
Please let me know if i can do something, report to the police? uhh.. i am messed up !!

i went to the police station today, they took my imei number and told me they will try tracking it, it may take 1 day,1 week or even a month, But can't assure that they'll get it back. :/ I guess its a goodbye to my phone.
