stupid question: phone lock on call, totaly locked - Desire General

Greetings,
I just bought an htc desire. I do however have BIG problem.
As soon as i call someone, the screen goes dark (read it is normal) but, i CANNOT get out of the dark screen, i cannot hang up or unlock the phone, the unlock key does nothing, nor does any other key.
Whats happening?

maybe youre holding one of your fingers over the proximity sensor left to the phone output, or your proximity sensor may suffer hardware faults

the second option really does not sound too good, for a NEW phone

is there no way to disable the sleep option on call???

I don't think there is, that is a needed function. Otherwise, you would do many things with your face over the screen.
Still, my sensor works normal. If I cover it (hand, ear or whatever at the earphone), the display goes off and locks, if I uncover it the display is on and active. And I can do this many times.

i installed "show sensors" and for the proximiti sensor (cm3602) it says reading 0.0 and accuracy high, the number NEVER changes :/

I don't think that anyone from the forums can help you, it's obviously hardware problem. Why you don't just take it to HTC for repairment/replacement?
Btw, show sensors for my proximity sensor say 1.0 when I don't touch it, and 0.0 when I place a finger on the earphone. It's too obvious that your proximity sensor is off.

looks like i have no choise, im gonna have to bring it back in and wait it comes back from support, gonna be without phone for a while :'(

Do you have a case or an "invisible" shield covering the sensor?
Regards,
Dave

sadly, no, its out of the box. i dont even know where is the sensor tough

It's on the left side of the earphone
Aproximate position, not sure about the exact position.

It should read 1.0 unless the sensor is covered (moving an object over the sensor changes its value to 0), so it appears that you have a faulty device

is the support of htc any good? will i have to wait long to get my baby back? anyone knows?

I called HTC belgium this morning. They made a ticket and said ill receive an email that i have to print and give to the delivery guy tomorow with the phone, between 8 and 12 am.
Now the funny part is, I STILL DID NOT RECEIVE THE DAMN EMAIL.
I called 3 or 4 times, send 4 messages via their ticket system, gave 3 different email adresses to be sure. And i STILL DO NOT HAVE IT, its been like SEVEN damn hours...
They are one hour out of closing, and there is no way ill get it tomorow before the delivery guy comes.
I'm about to go berserk right now, is it always like that with them?

Hey,
i had the same problem that i noticed after root... have you rooted or installed different rom?? Also i send it to repair what they did was updated the rom to the newest one and and restored contacts of the sensor.... but it might be only the rom if you had flashed it. If not then you have to send it to repair or exchange it.

i did not flash it nor root it

Then its a hardware problem, maybe loose connection from the sensor, in that case either repair or exchange
I feel sorry for you... I was without the phone for about 2 weeks for exactly same issue

3 buttons not working correct, need a solution!

Hey guys,
Recently I dropped my Artemis . No screen damage luckily only button damage, so the problem is that my left softwarekey, my green telephone key, and the navigation button won't respond everytime I push them. See beneith (red=broken):

I need to click like 20 times fast and then suddenly the three buttons work again, but as you can imagine that's quite annoying. I don't feel like taking the cover off because it's not that easy, I reflashed many roms to check if it was a software problem but it's definetely a hardware problem. I think the two metal connectors don't connect if i push one of those three buttons, only after 20 times or so. Do you guys have any idea's on how to fix this?
And if not, is it possible to make a shortcut on the Today screen that directs me to the dialer screen because I can't access it with my broken Green Phone button?
Thanks already

You have 2 solutions:
This adds a new icon in your Home plugin
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\HTCHomeplug\4]
"iconindex"=dword:00000000
"ResPath"="\Windows\cprog.lnk"
"LaunchApPath"="\Windows\cprog.lnk"
This changes "contacts" to "phone" (112 for Calendar) softkey, just use touch screen
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113]
@="Phone"
"Open"="\Windows\cprog.lnk"
Thank you, that did the trick . It's a nice thing that the touch rom doesn't really need the buttons, you can manage and control almost everythin with HTC Home.
Now RollR is the problem
Suddenly all three buttons began to function normal again. But now my UP direction and MOUSE CLICK are not working anymore. The fact that my mouseclick is not working is really annoying because I use it a lot.
I think the problem is a software problem, because my mouse worked good before. I tried many different roms , official HTC, Premium, Touch. But still my mouse click and up direction are not working.
I don't feel like sending the phone in because that would be the third time to send it in for repair .
Can somebody help??
Thanks already

The third time??? Your Artemis is very unlucky!
I think it's an hardware problem, perhaps it's broken a contact in the board, or a littel piece of metal inerrupts some contact (first the three keys and now the mouse).
Try to open your Artemis...
If the problem persists after hard reset and after flashing other ROMs... it's definitely hardware problem. You must send it to service.

[Q] Anyway to recalibrate the proximity sensor?

I researched about causes of phone unable to turn on after a call and saw a DHD thread about it. I tried reflashing the ftf file but after a call, the screen was unable to turn back on, therefore i think it is the proximity sensor's problem. Is there an app like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951858 to calibrate proximity sensor? o_o
Any help? After every call i have to pull out my battery and on my phone ..
I'm going through the same problem with my xperia play but I realized that if you place the unit directly in the sunlight it works, I tried a lot about some application to adjust it but it only works in some unit (not xperia) he asks for one kernel file that we do not possess even in custom kernel like DOOMkernel.
I saw this information on the sony page:
(i cannot post links, just look in google for "Sensor HAL for Xperia™ phones available as open source")
I located the file Sharp_gp2.c that has the attributes that I want to change, I imagine that if I change some values like "power" or "resolution" I have some positive results but I do not know where to put this file in xperia play, I think that i can make a zip file and do a fastboot but not sure what the correct path.
If someone Knows, please tell us.
(Obs: I bought the proximity sensor part on ebay and i'll change it by my self, it costs 9 dollars and will arrive in 30 days, if this solve the problem i'll post the result here)
Hey dude, i solved my problem with proximity sensor, the piece that i order still not arrived but i disassembled my xperia play and i removed the piece (proximity sensor) an put it again and is ok now.

You can see how to disassembly your phone on Youtube, i think the problem was a kind of Conductivity failure on the big conector as in the image.

4.1.B.0.431 Arc S Experience

Hey there ppl, has anyone tested 4.1.B.0.431 enough to say that the video cam, the sound, the smoothness and battery life are any better?
What is this version? The unreleased version of ics that Sony is working on ? Or just a Rom tweak?
Sent from my LT18i using Tapatalk 2
it is an unreleased branded version of 4.0.4. It is branded to 3UK however, zdzihu has removed the 3UK bloat and made it available for our Arcs.
which means that Sony will test this version, 4.0.4, and release it for the rest of the us soon right?
I bought the Arc S in India 2 days ago with ICS out of the box. I found some minor and one major problem. The minor problems include laggy and sometimes unresponsive software, the phone app takes a lot of time to launch, and once or twice the screen froze with an incoming call, and I couldn't pick it up. I guess a firmware update would fix these. But the major problem I am facing is with the camera. It takes fine pics when all settings are in AUTO mode. But, whenever I change it from AUTO to NORMAL, I see a green tinged circle at the center of the picture, even while it is being taken (i.e. on screen), and circular tinges on the 4 corners. On more investigation, I found it to be a problem with the White Balance setting. Whatever I set for White Balance, I face this problem. However, everything is fine if White Balance is set to AUTO. I don't know whether this is a hardware problem with my unit, as if it were, the AUTO mode would also show the same tinge. Anybody else have this problem? I'm a little apprehensive of taking this down to the service center, as SE service is horrible, and they will totally wreck the phone cosmetically. Any ideas? Please help.
I'm attaching a couple of pics to demonstrate the problem. The upper one is in AUTO mode, the lower one in NORMAL Mode, with sunny day white balance setting.

[Q] How to fix gyroscope in google camera ?

I don't know if enyone encountered this but I thing there is a bug with either with gyroscope calibration / accuracy or new google camera
I recently tried the photosphere and panorama on cm11 and I noticed that direction is changing kinda random so when I took a shot it isn't aligned correctly with others and all ends up in a mess .
If google camera works well for you then how can I reset the gyroscope / compass ?

Most likely something it's wrong with gyroscope indeed . I tried other apps and like teeter or lane spliter and it's not very precise .
I hope it's not hardware fault so does anyone know a software solution to correct this ?
Any idea appreciated !
This is probably not anything to go after, but:
When I first installed the Google Camera app and tried it out, it worked as you would expect. Wasn't perfect, but definitly didn't "drift away" by itself while capturing a panorama/sphere. When I tried watching a sphere, the app prompted me to download "google services" from play store, which then let me watch the sphere.
But now I have the same problem with "drifting away" gyro, as you have.
So maybe the google services is messing with the gyro when using photo sphere/panorama.
I have the same issue. The gyro world's fine for a few seconds then it starts drifting away. I've always had this issue.
Sent from my One X using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I have this problem too on S2 Plus. Trying to take a panoramic picture but the image drifts by itself to the left.
I have the same issue on my 2 years old htc one m7. Also same issue appeared on 1 month old LG G4 !!!
I take the first frame in photospere mode, and then blue dot drifts left or right.

Today I noticed interesting thing: in pthotosphere mode I took first frame and passing bus hit the shot. After that, orientation started sliding to the side where bus was going, although phone was still. So I believe its software issue of application itself. Seems that it is trying to syncronize video flow to compass and somehow fails in it...
Thats what i got

GPS/Compass showing wrong direction

In Google Maps, the blue dot is tilted 90 degrees. When I use navigation, it looks like I'm walking sideways. I tried to recalibrate the compass in the app, but the accuracy shown is high. Anyone else is experiencing similar issue? Any ideas?
Yes, my gps is really acting up. Just reroutes all the time. Just goes haywire at times.

Yup, it's enabled all right.
Funny thing. It's OK when driving, it seems to recalibrate even if the arrow is shown in the wrong direction at first. But not when walking.
This is a know issue since the Note 8 at least (for me), said to be fixed but not really.

Really? Kinda sucks in a $1100 smartphone. So disappointing.
I've been dealing with this issue to. My compass has been all over the place on google maps. I've tried multiple times recalibrating the compass and will be set to high but then a couple hours later the accuracy is low. I did the *#0*# navigated to sensors and under magnetic sensor it gives me a blue line which is supposdly accurate. I try again hours later and it's back to red and has low accuracy on maps. Could this be a hardware issue?

Sorry, I don't know what the problem is then. But it's not universal, and some of us have had it but only temporarily, so there must be a way to fix it somehow.
