[Q] How to fix gyroscope in google camera ? - HTC One X

I don't know if enyone encountered this but I thing there is a bug with either with gyroscope calibration / accuracy or new google camera
I recently tried the photosphere and panorama on cm11 and I noticed that direction is changing kinda random so when I took a shot it isn't aligned correctly with others and all ends up in a mess .
If google camera works well for you then how can I reset the gyroscope / compass ?

Most likely something it's wrong with gyroscope indeed . I tried other apps and like teeter or lane spliter and it's not very precise .
I hope it's not hardware fault so does anyone know a software solution to correct this ?
Any idea appreciated !

This is probably not anything to go after, but:
When I first installed the Google Camera app and tried it out, it worked as you would expect. Wasn't perfect, but definitly didn't "drift away" by itself while capturing a panorama/sphere. When I tried watching a sphere, the app prompted me to download "google services" from play store, which then let me watch the sphere.
But now I have the same problem with "drifting away" gyro, as you have.
So maybe the google services is messing with the gyro when using photo sphere/panorama.

I have the same issue. The gyro world's fine for a few seconds then it starts drifting away. I've always had this issue.

I have this problem too on S2 Plus. Trying to take a panoramic picture but the image drifts by itself to the left.

I have the same issue on my 2 years old htc one m7. Also same issue appeared on 1 month old LG G4 !!!
I take the first frame in photospere mode, and then blue dot drifts left or right.

Today I noticed interesting thing: in pthotosphere mode I took first frame and passing bus hit the shot. After that, orientation started sliding to the side where bus was going, although phone was still. So I believe its software issue of application itself. Seems that it is trying to syncronize video flow to compass and somehow fails in it...
Thats what i got

[Q] Calibrate Gyrometer?

I just picked up the GNex Friday and have noticed sometimes the screen doesn't rotate properly. I thought nothing of it until this morning when I had to shake it a few times to come out of portrait mode. I then went on to play some Raging Thunder (car racing game), and my car just makes hard lefts and crashes.
So I'm thinking there is something up with my gyrometer. I downloaded "Gyro 2D Visualizer" and can can confirm that the phone is off quite a bit.
Here is a picture of it on a flat surface, you can see how much it's off:

Anyone else have this issue? Is this bad hardware or is there a fix?
Thanks!
After your post I went to take a look with GPS Status and you were right. It's a bit off. I calibrated it right away and should be correct now.
Weird they did not add a calibrator in ICS.
Would you mind sharing how you calibrated? I have GPS Status, but I'm not sure what it wants me to do when it says "rotate your device 1-2 times around each of its 3 axes".
Also can you verify that your calibration remains after a reboot?
What you're talking about is the compass caibration. Do the following
end over end (flip); hold it with the screen up and flip it away from you making a full rotation
side over side (roll); hold it with the screen up and move it from left to right so the screen rotates left, down, up right
screen-up rotation (spin); put it on a table and spin it around
Taken from: http://androidforums.com/143593-post3.html
The 2nd one is putting your phone on the table and the pressing calibration.
Hope this helps
Ah ok, sorry for the confusion. I found the other option for "pitch and roll".
Unfortunately, loading the game yielded the same results. I tried to play Doodle Jump and I had to tilt the phone to the left to get him to bounce straight up and down.
I downloaded the gps status app and mine seemed right on, however does anyone know if this app also shows you what the barometer is reading?

Yeah I got that too. Annoying as f**k.
Screwed up my ppl picture when I was in sphere mode. All upside down.
Anyways it's not final yet so yeah. But still I hate it.

If I have helped you.... hit that sexy thanks button. ^_^
Same problem, using the final Takju OTA - I never get a single lock-on; the point keeps drifting and at best I get one of the three lock light flashing. Given that even the help pages focus on the new Nexus 4, 7 and 10, I'm guessing we'd have to wait for the next point release to get this working.
People have been reporting success with Galaxy S 3, but not the Samsung I9000, so it's probably hardware-related, or at the very least driver-related
I have the gyroscope drifting off a bit on the first shot, subsequent shots are fine though.
Interestingly, I did a factory reset before 4.2 and it fixed the gyro issue! I can't seem to recreate the fix though. :/
Factory reset didn't help me... Seems my gyro is not only drifting, but its slow too. Hopefully Google fixes this =\
Factory reset didn't help me either -- I actually did a full reinstall from the Takju 4.1.2 factory image, because I didn't want to wait until the Yakju update, and then immediately updated to 4.2 via OTA before doing anything else beyond the initial setup.
A similar problem reported against CyanogenMod suggests that it might be due to the specific gyroscope make (the bug was not for the SGN, though). Installing Phone Tools now so I can check my gyroscope there.
No problem out here

Saturday I went to Venice (Italy) and the photosphere was working fine there, now I'm back in Avellino (Italy) and is it not working again.. :/
That's weird..
It was working for me well the other day as well... Perhaps magnetic interference?
sent from my mini tractor
I ended up flashing directly to 4.2 with a full wipe, and I have had non of the problems you describe. (Or any of the other problems people have had with 4.2).
I have however experienced while doing a photo sphere that the gyroscope isn't completely accurate. Meaning that if I go back and fourth a double of times on the first pictures, the next dot will be way of and the final sphere will be missing a part at this point and have an overlap at the end.

Snapchat Issue

I am having this problem with Snapchat where the image gets shorten a hit from the bottom of the screen and is replaced by blured lines. I am attaching an image for your review. Is anybody else facing the same issue? How to fix it?

This is happening to me too and I think it's something to do with Snapchat and a software issue hence. It's perfectly fine when using the normal camera app. Also when I take a photo directly from a WhatsApp chat, it's quality is far poorer than when taken from the camera app/

Thank you for confirming the issue. I have emailed Snapchat about it. Lets hope they come up with a solution soon. As far as Whatsapp is concerned that has always been the case with me regardless of the phone.

The blurry line issue has not been solved yet.But I have found a way around the chat problem. You can personalise the navigation bar and add hide navigation bar from settings. To do this:
Settings -> Personalize -> Change Navigation Buttons -> Select Hide Navigation Bar

Hey, not an HTC 10 owner (galaxy s7 edge) but my google maps navigation just started doing the same thing today, it's a complete pain in the ass. Guess it's an app problem rather than your phone!
Maybe google play services has updated something and broken it!
Likewise on my LG Ultimate II, since yesterday.
I've found that the zoom-out issue only occurs when the phone is tilted (wide rather than tall), and only when "Tilt Map" is checked in the Navigation Settings. Unfortunately, that's precisely how I prefer to use it.
Hmm glad I'm not the only 1 then. Thought it was my new HTC10 being the problem.

I'm guessing it was some update which has screwed with it. Which is REALLY annoying!

I've already tried turning tilt off and on messing around with options doesn't make any difference. I always have my phone in landscape while driving. Haven't had chance to try in portrait.
I have noticed though if I'm on a long stretch of road it zooms right out then when I'm approaching hing a turning it does zoom in Abit more. But it's a stupid function.

Same here Sony Z3c, Send feedback to Google via the app, they obviously farked it up on the last update. I thought it was stuck in 2D mode, but its just zoomed out very far.
I note that as you get to junctions etc it does zoom in briefly, but then zooms out again afterwards.

Blurry pictures with camera

Hello, I've got an interesting problem with camera. Sometimes it takes brilliant sharp photos, and sometimes, unfortunately quite often, it shoots pictures which are blurry. It can be seen even without zoming, that it is blurry. I've tried manual mode (ISO, exposure, manual focus), using tripod, cleaning lens and laser, using different light conditions, etc... Nothing helps. It is like camera shoots according to its mood. I will post 2 pictures taken in succesion, one is sharp and one blurry. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks

Try V10 camera.

Set HDR option to auto or turn ot off, that might solve your issue.
Thank you both for answers, but neither seems to fix it. I am not sure If I am not doing something wrong, but it is the same with another camera apps too. And it usually occurs when taking photo of some objects far away. Android 6 v20d.

I have the same problem. I've only had the the phone a couple of days. Sometimes the pictures are wonderful other times it kind of stutters in and out of focus. I haven't been able to solve the problem so I'm sending it back for a replacement.

You can't do anything wrong with this camera, specially on auto mode.Sounds like hardware problem. Send it back.
