3 buttons not working correct, need a solution! - P3300, MDA Compact III ROM Development

Hey guys,
Recently I dropped my Artemis . No screen damage luckily only button damage, so the problem is that my left softwarekey, my green telephone key, and the navigation button won't respond everytime I push them. See beneith (red=broken):

I need to click like 20 times fast and then suddenly the three buttons work again, but as you can imagine that's quite annoying. I don't feel like taking the cover off because it's not that easy, I reflashed many roms to check if it was a software problem but it's definetely a hardware problem. I think the two metal connectors don't connect if i push one of those three buttons, only after 20 times or so. Do you guys have any idea's on how to fix this?
And if not, is it possible to make a shortcut on the Today screen that directs me to the dialer screen because I can't access it with my broken Green Phone button?
Thanks already

You have 2 solutions:
This adds a new icon in your Home plugin
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\HTCHomeplug\4]
"iconindex"=dword:00000000
"ResPath"="\Windows\cprog.lnk"
"LaunchApPath"="\Windows\cprog.lnk"
This changes "contacts" to "phone" (112 for Calendar) softkey, just use touch screen
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113]
@="Phone"
"Open"="\Windows\cprog.lnk"

Thank you, that did the trick . It's a nice thing that the touch rom doesn't really need the buttons, you can manage and control almost everythin with HTC Home.

Now RollR is the problem
Suddenly all three buttons began to function normal again. But now my UP direction and MOUSE CLICK are not working anymore. The fact that my mouseclick is not working is really annoying because I use it a lot.
I think the problem is a software problem, because my mouse worked good before. I tried many different roms , official HTC, Premium, Touch. But still my mouse click and up direction are not working.
I don't feel like sending the phone in because that would be the third time to send it in for repair .
Can somebody help??
Thanks already

The third time??? Your Artemis is very unlucky!
I think it's an hardware problem, perhaps it's broken a contact in the board, or a littel piece of metal inerrupts some contact (first the three keys and now the mouse).
Try to open your Artemis...

If the problem persists after hard reset and after flashing other ROMs... it's definitely hardware problem. You must send it to service.

I THINK I BROKE MY ORBIT! Major Problem with my xda orbit (running b&b v4.0 touch)
Hey guys (especially Tom)!
I have been very very happy with the mentioned ROM for the best part of 3 Months. No faults, very speedy and it looks cool!
However, today my battery fell out (I've lost the back cover) whilst the device was on. After reinserting it and powering back on, the device seems to hang on the screen with the windows logo on. It has been like that for 2 hours and I don't know what to do. Whilst in this state, the power button does not respond and the only option is to take out the battery to actually turn off the device, or insert the stylus into the hole on the left of the orbit. Neither of these options actually do anything....it just boots and stops at the windows mobile screen.
Obviously, I wasn't prepared for this to happed and so I don't have anything backed up...which is why I really do not want to hard reset.
Is there anybody who can help me out there?
THANKS GUYS
P.S. I have attached a picture of the screen at that point which it hangs.

oh....Sorry.Just see your thread now.I have update new version rom v4.3
I think,maybe u try update v4.3 ???
For me it better v4.0
If have else problem . PM to me .
Cheers..!
I've got the same problem with B&B4.1
If we can get a green Activesync you can just turn on your pda holding the speaker button (get the boolander mode) and the run the upls and the new ROM, or if you cannot the only way is to run the original HTC ROM from the bolander modality.
Soory but i think you'll lose all your data
sorry
you can also try to hard reset your device (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Artemis_Resets)
important: hard resetting will erase all data on the device (not on storage card). it sets your device to the point right after you flashed the rom.
but i like tom's advice more...reflash to v4.3. it also erases data, but you get a nice new rom
well guys!
thanks for all the helpful comments. i had a gut feeling that i had really screwed up my phone hours before i posted on here. and i knew that i was going to loose my data. thankfully, most of my stuff is on storage card and i backed up my contacts before i upgraded to bb v4.0
so anyway, i took the plunge and thought ok...well since i was going to have to hard reset which would erase everything anways, i thought i might as well upgrade to tom's latest offering (not that there was any need to...i absolutely loved v4.0!!).
two words.... ITS QUICK!! seriously, i noticed immediately the speed increase from before (although i haven't had a chance to put on all of my progs just yet like tomtom, resco explorer etc). the camera is also very very quick compared to v4.0 (you had to wait 5 seconds after pressing the shoot button).the touch flo cube runs a lot smoother now and i like the nice fade in/out and also the fact that you swipe your finger from top to bottom to initiate it as opposed to having a hard button assigned...its a nice "touch"
i cannot thank tom enough for this amazing ROM.
tom, if you're reading this can you please answer the following questions?
>the earth background in the comms manager...anyway of changing this?
>what does black bars do?
>and rom setting
>why does HTC action screen go away so quickly?
Apart from that....i am very impressed.
THANKS AGAIN TOM...YOU ARE A F*CKING LEGEND

Smashed on/off button solution?

Hi guys, I am not sure if it's the place I should post this, if not mods plz move my thread to the appropriated message board.
Recently my phone fell off my desk head on. Right on the top of the phone. Now the button on/off is not functioning. I can still use the phone but as soon as it close the screen I can't light it up again. In the options I manage the let the screen open at all time but...
Bell is asking for a couple hundred bucks for repair or couple hundred to cancel my contract.
I was wondering if it was possible to some how make the camera button the on/off fonction.
I haven't open the phone yet (screws) to check the damage internally, I may be able to fix it but I doubt it.
I'll post pictures later tomorrow.
Do you guys have any ideas?
yes, check out AE button plus, you can't set it to power on the phone however you can set it to power the screen on and off. However to turn the screen on with a button other then the power button you must change the settings in key lock under settings/system/key lock you must set it do not lock buttons, otherwise no button will function, the only thing is that your call end buttons work as well.
get AE button plus
set whatever button to power on/off the backlight
disable key lock on screen power off
good luck
wow jeez thx.
I had a very hard time to find it for free so here's the cab

Same thing happened to me. This is what I did and I fixed it.
1. Take the battery cover off
2. Look at where the power button is, if you look closely you will the the button "hinges on the right side"

My touchscreen suddenly stopped working, and I have a lock code on my phone. Is there any way to unlock it with only the keyboard??

Try Pulling Your Stylus Out Or Slide The Keyboard Open 1 Of These Should Work!!!

What happens when you slide out your keyboard? It should unlock the phone.
I have a password, sliding out the keyboard only rotates that screen to horizontal, I still have to slide it. I lost my stylus a long time ago, is there any way to trick the sensor?

I don't use a password on mine; sliding out the keyboard brings it out of lock.
Try putting in the password via the keyboard after you slide it open.
BTW replacement stylus are really cheap on ebay or amazon.
Try using MyMobiler - you can then connect to your PC and operate your mob from a PC window.
just throwing this out there
I just had this happen to one of the phones at my office. I could not get past this lock screen (btw this phone is crap). Unfortunately for me and the guy we had to completely wipe the phone to make it work.
Remove the battery hold down the "send" and the "end" buttons and when you are sure that they are sufficiently held down press and hold the power button and get ready with the volume up button just in case the phone decides it doesn't want you to reset it (I did this about 8 times before I could get it to wipe). Once this is done go through the initial setup and enjoydelay banging your head against the desk for a few weeks.
The only downside to this is that everything is gone, the upside . . . you can now use your phone.
that's all I got
Oh yea put the battery back in after you remove it otherwise no dice.
there is also a really good desktop program called mDesktop that interfaces beautifully with the phone and lets you see and interact with the screen using your mouse.. It is also a very lightweight program only exe, no install necessary.

[Q] Broken Home Button

I was playing with my phone the other day and the home button and the search buttons suddenly stopped working. Totally out of the blue.
I have tried different ROMs, and they started working again for an hour or so and then stopped again. The keytest in recovery registers the key presses.
What do you think may be wrong?
It's probably hardware, there have been other reports of buttons that stop functioning, run a search and you'll find them.
Repair is the only solution I guess.
I doubt its hardware, I tried setting the volume up button to the hone function with an app, but that does nothing either.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I hope it's not hardware too but this kind of complaint isn't the first

...and others.
Can you access the *#*#3424#*#* test menu. If you can run the button test.
Another think you may try, is booting in safe mode to check if they would work then.
If you cant get it working take a look at this.
Edit: This app has just been released on the market, search for 'button savior'.
The app was made for the HD2 but is working fully on my desire running cyanogenmod, haven't tried any other roms.
I hope you get it working and don't need it though

Some success, I installed CM 6.1 and had my home and search buttons back. THEN, I restored a bunch of apps with titanium backup, I soon restarted my phone and bam, buttons no longer function on the reboot.
My problems don't seem to be the same as the above links, keytest in recovery has no problems with the buttons, they have not been playing up over a long period of time, and they are not erratic. They either work or they do not.
I suppose I should uninstall apps till I find the culprit?
I can't think of a better fix than that, might take a while but at least you should be with a fully functioning phone in the end
Probably it's better to first install the quality apps that you know are not causing the issue, and then install one by one apps that are from not so renowned devs.

Frustrated trying to enable Shift and Ctrl keys in bluetooth keyboard

I recently bought a bluetooth keyboard to type faster. Initially it wouldn't detect some keys like Shift or Ctrl, so I had no way to capitalize letters. At some point, after installing the Google keyboard (gboard), these keys worked. I could press simultaenously the "Shift + a" and then I got an "A". Yes, pretty basice. The thing is that after a day, it went back to not detecting these keys anymore. That means that I can't choose the special characters above the numbers (like brackets, @, etc).
I tried to root and use a "Bluetooth keyboard fix" app from the market. Unfortunately, nothing works.
I'm lost and I desperately need a solution. I tried to connect the keyboard to my phone (Huawei P9 Lite) and I get the same result: no Shift, no Ctrl.
Anyone knows how to solve it? Thanks!
Sounds to me like the might be a hardware defect? Which ROM are you on? I've had trouble with Bluetooth keyboards sometimes, but usually not something as basic as the shift key. Occasionally stuff may go wrong with the keyboard switching to a wrong mode, but that would normally affect the letter buttons for me, not shift.
Generally on any android version from lollipop upwards I haven't had to use an external keyboard app for anything on my various Bluetooth keyboards.
I'm in stock ROM, the latest that Samsung put at our disposal: 5.1.1.
Sounds like a software glitch but can't make sure!
Given you describe that the same issue occurs on another device, I'm afraid it sounds to me like a problem with the keyboard. Switching off these buttons would seem like a strange software feature -though I can't say for sure, of course.
Thanks, I have written to the seller.
I had nothing to lose, so I've decided to open the keyboard. It had several clips around the plastic "grid". There is a flat cable connector; I reassured it and... bang! I'm posting the picture to help others (though I think I was the only one with this weird problem).
