I was playing with my phone the other day and the home button and the search buttons suddenly stopped working. Totally out of the blue.
I have tried different ROMs, and they started working again for an hour or so and then stopped again. The keytest in recovery registers the key presses.
What do you think may be wrong?
It's probably hardware, there have been other reports of buttons that stop functioning, run a search and you'll find them.
Repair is the only solution I guess.
I doubt its hardware, I tried setting the volume up button to the hone function with an app, but that does nothing either.

I hope it's not hardware too but this kind of complaint isn't the first

Can you access the *#*#3424#*#* test menu. If you can run the button test.
Another think you may try, is booting in safe mode to check if they would work then.
If you cant get it working take a look at this.
Edit: This app has just been released on the market, search for 'button savior'.
The app was made for the HD2 but is working fully on my desire running cyanogenmod, haven't tried any other roms.
I hope you get it working and don't need it though

Some success, I installed CM 6.1 and had my home and search buttons back. THEN, I restored a bunch of apps with titanium backup, I soon restarted my phone and bam, buttons no longer function on the reboot.
My problems don't seem to be the same as the above links, keytest in recovery has no problems with the buttons, they have not been playing up over a long period of time, and they are not erratic. They either work or they do not.
I suppose I should uninstall apps till I find the culprit?
I can't think of a better fix than that, might take a while but at least you should be with a fully functioning phone in the end
Probably it's better to first install the quality apps that you know are not causing the issue, and then install one by one apps that are from not so renowned devs.

Welcome to the forums! Have a look around, try out the search button.
As WiredPirate mentioned, this has been discussed a few times.
The good news is that it's more of a "not officially condoned" as opposed to a "not going to work" type of support. Continue to use Wallet to your heart's content, just understand that there are certain risks on a rooted device - and Google won't be responsible if you run into problems.
Yea I can confirm that it still works. I only saw that message once... then never again. It just means that if you run a Rooted rom, you won't get support if something goes wrong or your money becomes missing.

This is not true. I spoke with Google CS about this and the man I spoke with assured me that the message meant if the app doesnt function in the way it should, ie. not transfering data via NFC or pressing a button doesnt work, that Google is not responsible to help you troubleshoot it. Not that you cannot cancel your card or retrieve your funds if you loose your phone. The phrase he used repetitively was "Your money is still your money", if for some reason your cash 'disappears' just call and they will straighten it out. But if the app is not transmitting or if it is spazzing out, do not expect them to help you troubleshoot it and get it working properly again, which I imagine they would initially try to do anyways or atleast give you suggestions on things to try but would eventually say "we are not responsible" if you are taking up too much of their time.
I hadn't planned on replying to this question since it has been covered several times but I had to clear up the misinformation.
Today was just the first time I ever noticed this warning in the app like that. I've been rooted forever, but I thought it might have been due to a recent update (and no topics showed up in the little "topic title search" thing).
Been like this for weeks. Its effectively a "user beware" notice.
Hello, I've got a weird error that I don't even know how to begin tracking down. Not sure if this is an ICS issue, an app issue, or a device (hardware) issue.
Several times now, I get a problem were, after a reboot, all the text on my home screen - names for apps and text within widgets is mangled somehow. Like pixels inverted, or boxed over, etc. (see screenshot)

The first couple of times this happened, a single reboot made it go away. However with my latest occurrence, I've rebooted several times without a fix.
EDIT: It seems like my data connection may also require examination? Since on the 3rd or 4th reboot I was in my office with a solid WiFi connection (versus previous reboots I was in my car en-route), the problem has now gone away again.
My initial reboot this morning was as a quick-fix attempt at an absent data connection. Guess I'm off to research these "radios" everyone keeps on about...
EDIT 2: Ok, perhaps ignore the above. After a reboot made this go away, it has now come back spontaneously (i.e. just noticed it sitting in the cradle with the error again - no reboot this time.) CRUUUUD.
Are you using a custom Kernel? Some 'Overclock' the GPU to 512MHz, while Stock is 384MHz. Some devices can't handle the increase and cause screen artifacts. Post your Kernel details and I'm sure someone will point you in the direction of another Kernel if this is the case.
Not that I know of - should be all stock, since I haven't rooted or unlocked anything yet (just got the phone a couple of weeks ago).
Thanks for the help.
Stock launcher? Or using nova/apex etc?

Hi,
Another thread...:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646985
Nothing related to GPU overclock...just about this possibility...
Looking in different threads in Q&A/General.
If you are using the stock launcher...I think I saw a topic with this weird issue with the stock launcher...but I can not find it anymore
In any case clear data/cache of your current launcher, reboot and see...If you're on another launcher than stock,reinstall...
I speak only for the launcher issue.
Yep, stock launcher. Thanks for the other thread.
Seems to be at bay now. Will keep an eye on it.
I've been using my One X for several weeks now (I think the hboot date is around early June so it's not one of the early batches) and so far didn't have any problem except for the following:
Twice, first a few weeks ago and the second time last night I saw some "artifacts". I'm not quite sure but I think different parts of the screen were affected each time. What happens is that everything is shown how it's supposed to be except for a 30%-40% area which looks a little like a computer screen right after a software/driver crash can look like. Without doing anything, it disappeared each time after less than a second.
I wasn't able to take a screenshot but the following photo shows how it roughly looked like. In my case, there were only lines and cubes in black, white and bright green instead of the more "fuzzy" parts shown in the photo.

Is this a driver issue? A lose connection? A display fault? I was close to unlocking my phone but with this having happened twice so far I wonder whether I should wait a little longer...
PS: It's probably unrelated, but like a minute later I encountered some "keypad ghosting" via swiftkey, i.e. I was pressing some keys on the keyboard and it was inserting several different ones each time. I do suppose that it's a software glitch, though, as I tried the stock keyboard another minute later and this worked fine.
If you can still swap your device with your retailer I would do that, just to be on the save side...
did u update to latest already?
if yes,
was it there before u updated..??
it doesn't look like a hardware issue
Did it act like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIY0_Hy2_mA ?

No, everything was where it was supposed to be and the artifacts faded away after probably less than a second.
I still have the latest stock Rom, haven't updated yet. I do think it's been more of a software glitch but I couldn't find information on here or anywhere else which would state a similar problem. Which is good?

Hello,
My N7100's a little too sensitive to rotation on the right. This just started happening 2 days ago, out of the blue. For the left side, I have to rotate my phone properly into landscape mode but to the right, even if it is tilted 1/8th of an inch e.g. while picking phone up, switching hands or left handed operation, it will suddenly rotate to landscape.
I have tried calibrating the gyroscope some 10 times but to no avail.
Any solution to this?
Thanks!
SOLVED: Read post #8
No one?
It's a bug in samsung touchwiz (4.1.2)..I have it too only solution I got was to use ultimate rotation control it will help or else if you can wait for samsung to fix it in 4.2.2
Here's the app link I hope it helps

@mufaddalezzi Thank you for your reply. However, my problem has not been solved by the app since it doesnt adjust the sensor.
My problem:
Phone thinks its tilted to the right while it is only 5-6 degrees to the right. I cant play games that require motion sensing such as Temple run because the character is running to the right with the phone being perfectly straight.
XDA, i need your help!
P.s: i tried restoring to an older nandroid backup from TWRP but to no avail
Tried. Calibration from the service menu at *#0*# under Sensors and again, no help. This wathe post that fixedit for someone else

Maybe it's a hardware failure(accelerometer or gyroscope)..that means you might need to change/replace it

Sure? I am not covered by warranty and would hate to sell my phone the gyro works fine its just that the calibration of it is wrong, the phone thinks it is tilted slightly to the right
I figured it out. For anyone else with this problem:
1) Boot phone into safe mode (Turn phone off and turn it back on. As soon as animation starts press and hold volume down button - It should say SAFE MODE in the lower left corner of the screen when turned on)
2) Reboot phone
Voila!
Mystery solved. Case closed.
I recently bought a bluetooth keyboard to type faster. Initially it wouldn't detect some keys like Shift or Ctrl, so I had no way to capitalize letters. At some point, after installing the Google keyboard (gboard), these keys worked. I could press simultaenously the "Shift + a" and then I got an "A". Yes, pretty basice. The thing is that after a day, it went back to not detecting these keys anymore. That means that I can't choose the special characters above the numbers (like brackets, @, etc).
I tried to root and use a "Bluetooth keyboard fix" app from the market. Unfortunately, nothing works.
I'm lost and I desperately need a solution. I tried to connect the keyboard to my phone (Huawei P9 Lite) and I get the same result: no Shift, no Ctrl.
Anyone knows how to solve it? Thanks!
Sounds to me like the might be a hardware defect? Which ROM are you on? I've had trouble with Bluetooth keyboards sometimes, but usually not something as basic as the shift key. Occasionally stuff may go wrong with the keyboard switching to a wrong mode, but that would normally affect the letter buttons for me, not shift.
Generally on any android version from lollipop upwards I haven't had to use an external keyboard app for anything on my various Bluetooth keyboards.
I'm in stock ROM, the latest that Samsung put at our disposal: 5.1.1.
Sounds like a software glitch but can't make sure!
Given you describe that the same issue occurs on another device, I'm afraid it sounds to me like a problem with the keyboard. Switching off these buttons would seem like a strange software feature -though I can't say for sure, of course.
Thanks, I have written to the seller.
I had nothing to lose, so I've decided to open the keyboard. It had several clips around the plastic "grid". There is a flat cable connector; I reassured it and... bang! I'm posting the picture to help others (though I think I was the only one with this weird problem).
