i have GPS PNA with WIN CE 4.2...... - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

i wont upgrade to WIN CE 5 \ WM 5,6,6.5...
how i do that please help me....

any one??
pleaseeeee =\\\

you should seek for a special Navigation-Devices forum. (just google.)
As PNA's only have the Kernel of WinCEX.XX, the System is dependent on the Software you use. (ie Navigon, iGo, Tomtom, NavGear, Destinator, etc) In most cases, you can upgrade a pre-installed Softare to a newer Version. (which mostly brings new features or support for more recent maps)
There may be some rare occasions where (due to hardware-restrictions) you can not upgrade your PNA and have to live with old maps as newer maps need the newer software.
i once had this problem at an old Compasseo running Destinator 6. it was not able to upgrade the software to version 7 as V7 used higher requirements like screen-res and ram.
There are some german forums, where you can get more information :
http://forum.pocketnavigation.de/index.html
or even a link to a forum that offers maps, upgrades and some hacks (where you sometimes can use another Navigation software on a certain device)
http://www.digital-eliteboard.com/forumdisplay.php?f=189
both links are german, but from that point you may find information, you need.

New thoughts about P3300 : WM6 / GPS Maps 4 travelling / New soft & hardware

Hi P3300 owners,
After having my P3300 for about 7 months i'm still satisfied, it's more compact than my previous Eten G500 and is exactly the size of a phone.
I use it mainly as a phone, to take quick notes, calculator, gps. First I planned to use it as mp3 player also, but not too much at a time, to save some battery
I saw there is a P3350 allready with added 3G function, but don't need it for the moment. Glad to see this summer WM6 Crossbow will be available for our device (after it wasn't the case firstly) but our P3300 is award-winning, so it deserves the 'vista' for our pocketpc
Now i'd like to discuss some thoughts about new software / hardware :
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. ROM
I still have the orginal rom 1.12.0.0 and GSM 02.67.90
is it worth upgrading, what is the best rom at the moment + advantages ?
In past I upgraded roms for my xda2i but now i don't seem to bother
2. GPS
I work with tomtom, satisfied, but could be better.
Free TMC instead of paid tomtom plus gprs services + more maps (Greece,Turkey,Thailand) for travelling is what i want.
I tested route 66 & destinator 6 in past but still looking...
Tried to install IGO 2006 and ViaMichelin but both said 'not a valid win 32 application'. I guess it's because I work with Vista 64, but same error on pc of collegue (XP 32bit).
The new Igo8 looks great in 3D : http://www.i-go.com/en/news/index.php?aid=110
What is your favorite GPS program? Your TMC works fine over radio without issues?
4. FREE GPS PROGRAMS
I guess this won't be as nice like paid programs.
Do you know any free gps tools with maps for travelling countries like greece, turkey, thailand for example ? Tried googlemaps and some other but did't get any images.
5. UNMISSABLE SOFTWARE
What are your favorite toolz at the moment ?
For me it's :
- SPB Pocketplus & SPB Backup
- Hitchhiker (still the old 2006 beta, no updates comming
- SkypeLowCpuBeta (free calls when travelling)
In past i tried mobimate world (nice for flight hours updating), Weatherstuff, and RSS News feeds.
6. EXTRA HARDWARE / ACCESSORIES
Checked Ebay for some very cheap usefull accessoires and I found :
- A silicone case + screen protectors
- A Motorola H300 bluetooth headset with 30 hours talktime + 30 days standby due to 1 AAA battery, that's a lot without recharging
- A dual sim adaptor (have 2 simcards, one with free sms after 16hrs+weekend, the other free talktime after 16hrs+weekend talk is cheap
So if you have tips / remarks on these topics, share your thoughts!
Ciao!

1. ROM
I have the same ROM. It s stable though so no upgrade needed (unless crossbow of course)
2. GPS
I use MioMap. I had the problem of 'not a valid win 32 application' when running the setup.exe from my pc... then, as suprising as it is, i understood that in fact i had to run the setup.exe from the PPC ! Maybe you should try that too...
3. ???
no 3
4. FREE GPS SOFTWARE
hmm nope i don't have any free one
5. UNMISSABLE SOFTWARES
- SPb Diary
-Spb Mobile Shell
-Citytime (as usefull as worldmate, but lighter and faster.
-Spb Brain Evolution (when i'm bored, it s good to train the brain
-Resco Explorer 2006 (it's a MUST. Comes with Resco Registry)
-MioMap 3.2 - GPS software, imho better than tomtom route66 or any other soft. Not sure what are the exact difference between IGo and MioMap, i just know they are almost identical and same manufacturer, but MioMap is stable on my p3300, Igo wasn't...
- PocketStars : If you like watching stars and want to have all the details of what u r looking at... it's the best. (includes gps function to give your exact realtime sky chart at your position!).
-Metro : all bus & metro of thousands of cities in your p3300 good for travellers.
- SKTools : to optimize the P3300 (free back the ram, deletes invalid notifications queues, etc...).
6. EXTRA HARDWARE / ACCESSORIES
no idea yet, just got my HTC for 2 weeks now, but that dual card sim holder u talk about interest me...
--------------------------------------------------------
5. UNMISSABLE SOFTWARE
What are your favorite toolz at the moment ?
For me it's :
- SPB Pocketplus & SPB Backup
- Hitchhiker (still the old 2006 beta, no updates comming
- SkypeLowCpuBeta (free calls when travelling)
--------------------------------------------------------
Hi, glad to hear that u are satisfied with the P3300. I would like to ask you about skype. I use also the low cpu version (which hasn't been updated for some time now). The problem is that audio is terrible, i can't hear anything useful only a low pitch sound (although sometimes and for a second or two the voice is ok). Text chatting works very well. I believe that maybe is the slow CPU of the P3300 (and there was no improvement with Overclocking)
Have you noticed similar issues while using skype for voice calls?
Thx

There is no way that TMC will ever be possible on the Artemis, for free that is. Yes, I know that some users disagree, after all, when the radio can handle RDS, why cannot it handle TMC?
According to HTC however it is just not possible and I think they should know best.
Having said that, I do think TMC is not that great. It isn't where I live anyway, with lots of delays. TMC will inform me that there is a traffic jam on the A28, as if I didn't know allready, looking at the 300+ cars in front of me.
Thanks for the heads up on Igo 8, that looks pretty cool. Wonder how well it actually functions in practice. Anyone know if it's released to the public yet?

[Q]TomTom version

Hi,
Recently I've read a few posts online about different versions of tomtom. My question is what is the main difference between the most current version released which is aparently 6.035 and the version I have on my phone...6.010?
Does anybody know? Are there more options in the 6.035 version or is it just a random release to fix bugs people have had cause really.. I havnt had any bugs what so ever with my version and dont plan on upgrading unless I have to... or unless this other version has something that mine doesnt.
Thanks in Advance!
Hi,
tomtom never released this version. youre using stolen software!
I'm running Tomtom 6.01. That is a legal version. I'm not aware of the legality of 6.035 so I wouldn't know if its a hack or not. I was just wondering if it was any different then my version that's all
My experience with TomTom on various Windows Mobile devices is that version 6.00 is somehow slow and bugged on certain hardware, and that's why 6.010 exists. But it had a short life and was soon upgraded as well.
Most common on the field are 6.020 and 6.030, which are basically the same good piece of software. 6.030 is just 6.020 with some compatibility enhancements for certain devices (see TomTom site for details).
Most recent version I know of is 6.032 (another compatibility update based on 6.020). Therefore if you have 6.020 there's no real need to upgrade. 6.035, if not a fake, is likely a leaked build and I'd stay away from that.
so basically... Dont upgrade unless I am having issues... which I am not. 6.010 seems to be working fine so if there arent any additional features added why switch right?
And where can I download those official releases ?
I've recently bought their 50% discounted maps, after the lady on the phone support line (TomTom) told me it would come with software needed to use it. Later, I understood she gave me false information.
I tried downloading one from the internet (I'm afraid it's a hacked version), and didn't need any piracy stuff, as the codes that came with my map perfectly work to legally activate and use the software
But I'd like to donwload it from a trustful source, without needing to buy a whole navigator 6 package with the non discounted map (which I already have)... :s
help!
Thanks
anyone...?
Anyone know when next release will come??
DL-Link
Hi,
anyone can legally download 6.030 from www.tomtom.com/updates
Bye
Andi
i m running 6.032 it starts up faster and caculates routes faster than 6.030
What about new tomtom's version??
Will it ever come??

New TomTom maps v825: Newer not always better

Just to let you know that for a number of regions new Tomtom v825 maps are available for our HD. The map with the endings v825.2158 and 2159 work on the HD and PDAs, the 2157 are for PNA.
However, some users i.e. for the 2157-version of the new DE map report that street changes that were included in the previous v815 are now again gone in v825. But 2157 does not run on the HD anyway, so hopefully upcoming PDA-version is better.
TomTom Map United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland v825.2159
TomTom Map Scandinavia v825.2159
TomTom Map Iberia v825.2159
TomTom Map Western Europe (1GB) v825.2159
TomTom Map Benelux v825.2159
Hi,you can't buy these maps because your device is not recognized by tomtom home for the download . Only devices mentionned by tomtom can download new maps .
Compatible Devices , Touch HD doesn't appear ...
Latest TT Home will recognise HD as valid device.
Latest is 2.5 ( 2.6 is beta version ) and if you buy a map you could not download it , even if your pda is recongnised , the device ID is not in Tomtom database . We do a try with a Diamond, and a Touch HD no listed in Tomtom, we could buy a new map,we saw it in Tomtom home but we've got the following red message : This device is not compatible with Tomtom navigator 7 and just an old V675 could be downloaded . Tomtom confirm that by phone ...
there is a workaround to get the new maps and get TThome to work with your HD, it isnt illegal although isnt official or supported.
its contained in the main TT thread if you want to go and look for it, search iberia
Sorry, but Tomtom doesn't tolerate this method ... ( modify or hacking to make compatible ) . You can contact support for more infos .... You can find this on the forums devoted to Tomtom ...
Tomtom has decided not to market Tomtom Navigator 7, which we regret, we are forced to conclude that its users have in their possession an unofficial version therefore pirated.
Tomtomax will not give technical support or equipment of any kind on this version . (See our rules) .
In addition, we give the right to remove Tomtom Navigator 7 profile or signature of the poster, and to suspend the Poster's Tomtomax account Tomtomax .

Don't assume that what has happened in France is equally applicable around the globe. In the UK, I've found Tomtom to be more forward thinking.
A month ago I loaded ttn7.910.9185 then installed Tomtom 2.5. This recognised my Touch HD (Dutty 1.7 ROM) and I was able to purchase and download West Eu map 815.2024. I have since purchased and used TT traffic. I am still able to get map share info when I connect to TT home 2.5.
I queried TT UK on another matter and they were interested on how I had got my Touch HD working. Their reply regarding TT7 Nav being pirated or not was:
"Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support
Navigator 7 has been released preinstalled on certain PDA's in just a few countries in Europe, including the Vodafone HTC Touch Diamond in the Netherlands.
This product has not been released in and is not supported in UK. Any PDA's or mobiles with this product preinstalled are either cracked versions or have been imported from abroad. As in your case - it was imported from abroad.
The screen size issue you mentioned is one of the examples why Navigator 7 is not yet compatible with the HTC Touch HD. Some people have experienced that the size of the navigation screen is way smaller than the actual size of your HTC screen. We thank you for offering in testing navigator 7 however we already have our R&D department working with compatibility".
I suspect the issue over an imported phone to the UK is actually the cooked ROM source that I am using.
I presume from their reply that If I had imported a Dutch THD for use in the UK then there would be no issues?

Thanks for your input, Marcdu81 just tries to be helpful and steer people away from using TT on their HD. Well, I, like thousands of other community members here, use it on our HD, in fullscreen, and TT knows that in some countries Navigator 7 was bundled with the HD and other HTC devices. As long as they can sell the maps they are happy, but dont expect support for a TT version on an imported device. TT support in my country will also let you port your maps purchased for another PDA device to the HD, given that they have been bought six months ago, under warranty.
Chance for you but in France using Tomtom 7 is not recommanded . They contact us to delete the cab application in our forum ... No problem we'll use an other navigation software ... Each country is different,i don't know why,I think Europe is not the same for everybody ...

Achile's Youtube Online Version 3 second best rom after Dheewatara

Hi,
Achile's Youtube Online Version 3 is second best rom.
I hope Achile will start to make a 6.5 for some serious competition with Dheewatara!
Cheers,
Innovator
1> any other testers got stuck with Achille's decent rom version 3 like me
i bought xda yesterday , i dont know yet can you give me link for your rom ?
2> what's the most important difference between WM 6.5 & 6.1 ?
Finger scrolling menu in programs , settings/ nothing important, i dont know why but i don.t like 6.5
3> anyone tested the Igo Amigo or uses this instead of IGO Myway 2008 ?
Amigo have simple friendly interface (i like amigo, maps are small) its just cutted wersion of my way 08
4> any spectacular new roms upcomming (maybe Achilles has plans for a version 4 or something, or Tom Condon who is back?)
millions of them biliions of them , trillions of them
sorry for my english
2> what's the most important difference between WM 6.5 & 6.1 ?
new version of internet explorer
new homescreen (titanium)
new programs menu (honeycomb)
finger-friendly menus
new lock screen
it is only a .5 upgrade so ( just like from wm6 to wm6.1 ) there isn't too much to shout about, but as with the 6-6.1 jump i've found 6.5 to be faster and more stable than previous releases, and the finger-friendliness is much better. Plus i much prefer the newer version of IE
nice, concerning the Amigo : smaller maps, but are they still nice looking in 3D, what did they cut out of the maps of IGO8 then?
Concerning the finger friendliness : more on the today screen you mean ?
But i'd rather like the today screen in achile's rom (can't remember the name), maybe he or someone else can make a sequel with wm 6.5 with the same today
Or i just install that today screen, what was the name again?
Just gone back to my Artemis after living with an Elf for a year, but it went along with my job!
Anyhow, in rsponse to your questions...
1> any other testers got stuck with Achille's decent rom version 3 like me
not yet - but the 6.5 ROMs out there are too buggy at the moment. I just need a decent clean rom!
2> what's the most important difference between WM 6.5 & 6.1 ?
No programs and settings folders on screen, just icons direct from the strat button. Improved IE, but I don't use IE anyway - Operam Mini for me every time - if you haven't tried it, you must!
3> anyone tested the Igo Amigo or uses this instead of IGO Myway 2008 ?
Yes. I try every satnav software I can.... Amigo is not worth the hassle if you can get Igo8 running... Igo looks nicest, but is really probably over-complicated. I always end up back at TomTom - it's simplest, cleanest, fastest...
4> any spectacular new roms upcomming (maybe Achilles has plans for a version 4 or something, or Tom Condon who is back?)
Well, all I want is a clean ROM with office and Java on it - the most importnt thing is speed of response...

Very good rom but something is missing in : BT_SAP protocol.
I've found a cab for install it but it'is an older version and dont work properly.
Do you think it's possible to make a new version of this cab with the lastes version of htc sap protocol ?
achilles ROM V3
Achilles ROM V3 is best but it takes too much RAM. I request achilles to pl cook WM 6.5 with touch flo 2d keeping in mind maximum available of balance RAM.
Regards
DWatara's 6.5 with M2D is best (you can disable the M2D it if you have memory short but I like it, no memory problems (and working with IGO 8 also) )

Garmin for Froyo on kaiser?

I like Garmin so much!but after flash nand to froyo on my kaiser,no more Wm software support.hmm.anyone knws how to put Garmin on Kaiser Froyo?
Applications that are disgined and coded for a specific operating system (ie Windows) and will not be compatible with other operating system (ie Linux/Apple) its the same on the PC as well as mobiles. The Supplier or software developer has to code it to a specific system.
So its the responsibility of the software developer / company to 'port' their application for each system, Not for the Operating system to support the software.
A quick google, reveals that they don't make Garmin for Android 'yet' so for the time being you can not install Garmin for your chosen Operating System.
So you will have to contact Garmin and ask them (as it seems many have) to 'port' their application to Android. and for the time being you will either have to use Google Maps or buy CoPoliot (which I hear is good).
There are also a number of other satnav options, however as leona says, garmin has not yet commited themselves to Android yet, neither has tomtom. but with androids present performance in market share, it's only a matter of time before these 'big boys' bring their android game.
I'd have a good look at the alternatives in Market though, at least it's a good comparison
