I just tried to check for updates for my desire (unrooted) and I saw that I can update to 1.21.405.2.
UPDATE:
It seems that the update is only available for the EU unbranded roms.
Changes reported:
- Updates bootloader to 0.80
- New radio image
- New youtube app with HQ option (1.6.20E).
- Fixed htc's weather widget (integrated into clock&weather widget) not knowing where you are (1.15.xxx just said the name of the country in some countries).
- SMS issue (from non-numerical senders) is resolved.
- fixed random contact showing when receiving operator SMS.
- fixes the voicemail bug for the French carrier SFR (short voicemail number used to call 911/emergency).
- Messages app now shows a count on the number of messages in the SMS inbox.
- calendar/contacts bug - unable to store contact's birthday - has been fixed.
- Long click on the menu button when in home screen now doesnt pop up the keyboard, like it uselessly did before.
- SMS reader does not show the little smiley androids any more - just the mere types.
- Exchange Company Address Book is now properly working. Was unable to use before the update.
- They have disabled the snooze function on the Optical trackpad for calendar events. This means that it is now possible to have the phone in your pocket without accidentally snoozing the alarms.
Known issues:
- OTA update on debranded/rooted roms resolves in wifi not working - debranded may be specific for orange.
- Doesnt fully charge for the first couple of times, probably a calibiration thing, it's ok after 3-5 charges.
OOO thats new I checked this morning and it wasn't there.
this is an up date for HTC Applications, well thats what it says.
27.2 mb can't be a big deal.
I'm on it now, seems fine...the MCR custom ROMs are based on it but I got bored of them so went stock
Updating to 1.21.405.2 changes your bootloader to 0.80 and currently it is unavailable to downgrade back to 0.75.
This means that if you ever want to run an RUU to revert back to stock you won't be able to since that requires a 0.75 bootloader.
You can get the stock 1.21.405.2 ROM from my sig so you can go back whenever needed...you just cant go back to 1.15.405.4
well atleast this shows progress at the HTC camp. Real question is whether this is it, or is it work around the 2.2 update?
Where can i find what differneces are on this update.
Can i still root my desire if i want to after this update?

This rom has been out for quite some time now. Small little patches are hardly anything compared to moving up an entire OS revision.

Yes but you'll need to use the 0.80 method.

How long is that? If this is how long it takes HTC to port their UI onto a new build of the SAME OS it's not looking good.
It was posted in ROM Dev about 3 weeks ago now, maybe longer...
EDIT: 19th May
Wonder if O2 users will get an update.. I'm feeling left out
Im on o2, too. Hope they will get this update soon.
Not that its a big thing... but it would make me feel optimistic for future updates (2.2?) if theyd get this done quickly...
the O2 Desire is pretty much brand new so won't have an update yet - it's going to be HTC bringing the other units up to speed...
so what is this update???? Anyone

Minor fixes. New radio image. New youtube app with HQ option (with a widget that doesn't work if you're logged in to your account). New bootloader. Fixed Facebook/unknown contact issue (haven't verified this personally).
I flashed the rom from the dev forum a couple of days ago, but haven't noticed any other changes yet.
The news widget still doesn't update automatically.

edit: i think speaker is also louder ... though it may just be me

Ah well...that will teach me to be fast.
Updated via 3G at work. Got home and just realised my Wifi no longer works. Refuses to start after the update. Tried several reboots...nothing.
It doesn't even TRY to start, as soon as you select the check box to enable Wifi it instantly says "Unable to start Wi-Fi"
This sucks.
Re: updating to 1.21.405.2, should I?
Just updated, and I can now see Google earth in the market place, perhaps just simple coincidence

Hi,
I am experiencing sleep of death with the new HTC official ROM (3 in maybe 4 days of use....).
Here is what I have installed:
-Hard SPL
-Resco Explorer
-Resco Registry addin
-Efficasoft GPRS Traffic monitor
-LockDevice 1.6
I installed very few apps on purpose as stability is very important for me.
The top suspect so far is LockDevice 1.6, as it is the only application run in the background; I removed it yesterday and will see if it works better that way.
Am I the only one having this issue? Any other sweet way to have the phone automaticely locked?
Thank you,
uninstall lockdevice it should fix your issues. I suggest s2u2 for a locker.
Hi,
I had the same problem, seems to be a bug in the ROM. I didn't installed other apps or anything. I reverted back to the stock 6.1 rom :S
Grtz,
FeareX
I have the same issue. Thought it was just me.
How the hell can HTC release a rom with such an obvious bug. I'll try a few more days and if it keeps crashing I'll also rollback to a previous version.
Thanks for your infos

Have you thought that HTC has NOT released this rom yet?
I don't know what's the connection between htcpedia and htc, but this rom is not downloadable from HTC's site yet, only the SEA version. So maybe these roms on htcpedia are just some kind of "beta" versions, and they're still testing/fixing them.
(Though my experiences from the past make this whole reasoning meaningless )
same here, i just flashed it 2 days ago and then restore my data with SPB Backup, now when it's sleep it never awake... i have to soft reset it. im going to perform a hard reset now.
Mine was fine before i put this rom on and now even with a different rom, it still does it. I'm going to flash a different radio and see if that helps.
I wonder if hardspl could be the problem, as far as I remember I've allready seen similar issue with a kaiser (or a touch pro) rom update and it was related to hardspl.
What version should the new SPL be?
it happened to me a couple of times, I think in my case it was the twitter auto update from sense 2.5, it hasn't happened since I disabled it
Bluetooth w/ Sleep of Death?
I am troubleshooting the SOD issue, and was wondering if anyone is / has been experiencing this problem when NOT using bluetooth (you get SOD when your bluetooth is turned off)?
In the meantime I am checking to see if auto updates set to "on" in Facebook / Twitter / or Weather could be the culprits.
I don't use bluetooth and it still happens. I do have twitter updates enabled though. I may have to disable them to see if it fixes it.
I do not use BT nor twitter, but I do have a constant sync with my exchange server
I once had the SOD with using bluetooth a while back (when paired with a rental car's BT stereo), but yesterday started getting it every time phone goes to standby (without using BT) - only soft reset/removing battery helps. I have made no changes to registry or even installed apps in the last couple of weeks so have no idea why it is happening. Continuing to search forums at the mo...
BTW: Stock 6.5 WWE ROM
Do you all have hardspl installed?

No, I don't and I believe my stock 6.5 WWE ROM (from HTC official site a couple of months ago) has Sense 2.1, not 2.5. Like I said, I had no problems until yesterday and most of that day, it was cradled to my work PC (like it is every couple of days).
so, today I can confirm that twitter and facebook update (from contacts tab) produces the sleep of death on my rhodium (rhod100 with official sea firmware)
I had no problems for several days with auto facebook updates and twitter tab disabled. today I manually updated facebook (contacts tabs-->all contacts-->updates & events) and let the phone do it's thing. after a couple of seconds the cpu usage went up to 100% (according to battclock) and stayed there until the screen turned off (I let the phone idle on purpose) then it SOD on me, had to soft reset. I had facebook updates off for more than a week, so maybe it hangs when there are over a certain number of updates and the refresh takes longer than X amount of seconds
after that soft reset I checked the updates & events in contacts, and the update seems to be succesful, apart from the sleep-of-death
then I enabled the twitter tab, again, after several days of having it disabled, hit refresh and watched the cpu usage go to 100%, after the screen went off it was SOD again, just like with facebook.
these tests were done over my data plan, wifi and bluetooth disabled and direct push enabled (gmail)
for now I check twitter via web with opera mini and post to twitter with pocketwit-quickpost, I don't use facebook on my phone and just have it enabled to sync my contact pictures when I do a hard reset. hopefully there will be a hot fix or a rom update that fixes this.
Just a heads up: The new official Sense 2.5 ROM is NOT official at all. Just got that confirmed from HTC themselves after sending them a bug report. They are still working on it.
So yeah, expect a few bugs.
That being said, I also use LockDevice 1.6 and I don't have any sleeps of death. Other than that I am using what you are using except for Hard SPL - no idea what that is even :>
EDIT: I have no problems with Facebook updating either. If you have, I recommend you use RAMclean every now and then to keep it below 75% or so. Mine is around there and working ok.

so the rom in the official website for my phone, that downloads correctly after I put the serial number in the box is not official?
http://www.htc.com/sea/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=877&news_id=533
P.S: my device is the SEA version, so my serial number works fine on that page
I would write customer support, but since my device works fine without twitter and facebook updates I can live with it.

Hi
I have a problem with a Desire Z. Alot of times when I try to send a message (SMS) it takes forever (5min) before it gets sent. If I hit the home-button while watching/waiting for the message to be sent, it's put in drafts instead of keep trying to send.
It's also slow at recivieving messages. Tested with a couple of other phones and compared.
Does anyone else have a simular issue? The sim-card has been used for years with other phones without troubles.
Try using a different messaging app (i.e. handcent)

Same problem for me. Hoping the new OTA solve this problem.
Tap on "send", put the phone away, look at the phone after an hour, somethimes the sms is still "sending" !
I only get this if I have no or very bad signal, i.e. it will wait till it's got a signal to send it.
I wonder if it's worthwhile for you guys to do a factory reset or re-flash the ROM ?
Only thing I can think of is using the "delete old messages" function after deleting all your messages. other than that, I'd try wiping cache and dalvik cache (assuming you are rooted). Re-flashing the ROM should be a last resort (assuming that you even have a custom ROM installed).

So it's possible it's so slow at sending since it has alot of messages in the inbox? It might be the case, but even so it's lame if that's the reason, it's far more powerfull than just handling some textfiles

Haha I agree with you on that, mine has messages in it from weeks and weeks ago. the only reason i said that is because when I was with sprint, I had a HERO (i know, they arent even close to the same spec-wise) and it acted the same way your G2 is acting now. I fixed it by doing what I recommended. worth a try
A little nomenclature for you...
OTA - Over The Air update. It's an update that HTC or your service provider pushes to your phone when it does a check-in, if it is more current than the version your phone is running. Basically it's a software patch for the system software located in your phone.
Seeing that you don't know what an OTA is yet, I can deduce that a rooted phone definitely isn't your problem. I think you should check your phone for updates (Settings -> About phone -> System updates -> Check for updates) and see if anything pops up after you hit okay.
If you find an OTA and the problem still persists, you may find a new SIM card would be an ideal option. Let me explain myself here:
When Cingular made the switch to AT&T I was still using a Cingular labeled SIM card. It worked fine until AT&T switched to 3G. When I got a 3G phone, I found that I couldn't get 3G no matter what I tried, because for some reason the SIM spec didn't support 3G. So I had to switch my SIM to get 3G. I've found that with each new spec that comes out, often times the best way to go is just to switch the SIM out each time you get a new phone. Might take a few minutes longer getting your contract up, but new SIMs seem to be sent out to our store (which is a AT&T/T-Mobile vendor) every time a new network spec is introduced by the carriers. I'm not entirely convinced that this is just a strange "coincidence".

Hehe thank you, but I do indeed know what rooting is etc., but the phone we're talking about isn't rooted so it's not the problem.
Just because I haven't bumped into the word OTA doesn't mean I don't know how the updatesystem from HTC works
And yes, it's the latest version, just got a update ticking in, dunno if it fixed the problem yet.

The recent update solved the problem (for my Desire z),
it was an HTC bug
Sorry for the late answer, but one day the mobile just decided to empty it's inbox for whatever unknown reason, and well, that solved the problem.
But thanks for all the answers, once again
the htc sense messaging app is horrible. the dates and times are wrong and it is like a pig. openeing, sending, reading are all slow.
install the vanilla android messaging app as shown here then you dont have to install third party

I have been experiencing weird glitches with my desire z and just wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing the same issues.....ill try be as descriptive as possible and apologies if they are covered elsewhere (i have searched but cant find much)
First off its a uk sim free purchased from play.com for £420 by my misses to me as a christmas present, its also stock with the 1.72 update.....but its made in china? previous threads dont really say much about this and it doesnt strike me as being unusual for such a large company to produce there? could be wrong? either way i havent checked the IMEI with HTC yet....anyway quirks are as follows
1. Screen jumps up and down when keyboard is out in landscape and texting....by that i mean text display window drops out of view thus stopping me typing until i manually scroll the screen down to make the text entry box visible again and this happens multiple times per message
2. Wifi indicator intermitantly drops off even though wifi appears connected (via power control widget)
3. In low light conditions the keyboard backlight displays flicks on and off? Im guessing this is 'normal' though as waving hand in front of the display sensor also affects this....again still annoying
4. Message notifications dont drop of the notifiction bar unless manually cleared even if the message is read ?....cant remeber if thats normal behaviour...annoying either way
5. Swype doesnt always work post 1.72 even after re installed (as per advice)
6. Gameloft games refuse to work again post 1.72....can start new game but not continue exisiting....just exits to homescreen
Apologies for the war and peace but trying to work out if anyone else is experienceing similar......am pretty bugged with it since i took the update and am trying to establish if my issues are the result of the update or not
Oh and err if its any consolation the hinge is solid......!!!
cheers peeps
On point 2, the power controls does not indicate that WiFi is connected, only that it's enabled.
Sorry I'm not sure with the rest of your issues because I have not experienced those or don't use those apps.

I'm experiencing most of these issues (1,2,3,4) but don't use swype and have only started using gameloft games recently. And i'm using the virtuous ROM which is still on Sense just because i like the interface. they are all annoying problems, especially the screen jumping one; Don't know any way of fixing them though, oh and btw I too am in the UK and am on Orange.

A new temp-root method for Desire Zs with the 1.72 update has been found and is posted in the development section. Lots of people seem to be having success with it judging by the feedback. For full root and s-off, you'll have to temp-root with psneuter, downgrade the OTA, then use gfree.

I have a bad journey with my Schubert today...
I hate the crappy image displayed in 16-bit banding screen on mango 2 beta, so i tried to reload it back to 7004 from ANSAR rom.
But, strange, i found the 16-bit color banding right after i flashed my Schubert back to 7004.
I read a few articles about banding issue and tried to unlock my phone in normal way.
But not this time, Chevron Unlock didn't give a thing to me.
With the .cer installed, Zune Opened, Phone Unlocked the lock screen, no https running, it still showed me the messege that i should restart Zune or reconnect the phone. No luck.
Update to 7008 Pre-Nodo, problem still exits, and still can't unlock the phone in Chevron Way. (disabled Antivirus program but no luck)
I ran out of hope, and thought i would lose the unlock with mango beta anyway, so i tried to fix the 16-bit color banding issue by updating to 7392, which Zune claimed "HTC Update for Windows Phone" . I thought a new firmware will help solving the banding problem.
I was wrong.
Update 7392, no unlock, i tried my luck with Provision.exe to update to Mango Beta, but... guess what?
"Trying to unlock your phone in 55s.... can't unlock your phone...."
I was mad, almost threw my HD7 away. But i remember my first back up before i went to Mango for the first time (No-Do 7392, Unlocked, fully loaded with apps and videos/music = 10GB), i tried to restore and it took so long that i could't imagine. Accidently, i touched the cable and the phone lost connection to the PC and rebooted itself.
I tried the provision.exe again, and this time, it allowed me to provision my phone. Updating to Mango Beta 2 right now... And anyone who can provide me a way to solve the 16-bit banding problem in Mango, that would be sweet, or anyone can answer me why Chevron didn't do me a favor to unlock my phone in 7004... (i did it 4 times in the past with the same device.)
What version of Zune are you using? 4.8 beta wont work. I had a huge problem with installing Chevron after I re-locked and tried going back. I uninstalled Zune and in the thread " [Tutorial] Unlock your phone; prevent relock & prepare for updates!" I used the link in step 2 to download an older version of Zune and it worked just fine.
Thanks for the info. I will check it out later.
Now i am having a huge problem with Facebook Intergrated System.
I have Facebook Add-in for my Live Account, and now i can't add it on my phone.
It always say that My facebook account need attention. I type in my password, and then it opened up m.facebook.com for me, which is stupid.

Yes, when i updated to 7392, Zune noticed me the update was "HTC update for Windows Phone".
A new No-Do version, which changed the radio version and something else that i don't know.
A lot of people have seen the links on WPCentral and WMPowerUser for force updating to Tango using the cab sender method.
I've been posting in that thread since yesterday and I'm seeing countless people messing up their phones by (a) not using the cab sender tool to make a backup before sending the updates or (b) not installing the language packs with the update or not installing the correct language packs.
The other thing people should be aware of is that for some people the update is removing INTEROP unlock. If you have a very recent Samsung firmware there may be no way to unlock again.
Tango adds very few features. Location awareness icon is not there. Export to SIM only appears to be there for a select few. Unless MMS is something that your life depends on, wait until more work can be done by the developer community analyzing what effects the 8112 and 8773 updates have on all the different phones & variations (carrier/unbranded) thereof.
EDIT: One user with a Dell Venue Pro has most probably irreversibly bricked his phone by applying the update.
If you want to force the update, try it:

Worked for me. Needed two updates. The second one was 8773, then I received Nokia firmware.
i don't understand how those steps are able to work. if the wlan connection is killed while zune is searching for an update it returns a 'can't check for updates right now' error.
If you do it the right timing, it will stop the checking of the phone carrier etc. So thats something like
Connect to server > Check Atual Version > Check Last Version Available > Check if allowed to update > Update
When you kill the wlan, you are supposed to it exactly in the part that check if you are allowed to update. When it doesnt receive a response from server, it just update. Basically, you jump one step.
And it works perfectly. I've done this with Mango, now I done this with Tango too. Believe, it's not troll.
Another method is to count how much time it takes to answer you that your software is up to date. And then take 1-3 seconds off. That's when you have to disconnect. So you keep trying alternating the time you disconnect your pc.
thanks for the explanation of the sequencing.
i love wp7, and the lumia has been great...but i think it's a bit strange that updates are via zune software only, yet they stripped the marketplace accessibility functions from that same software making them ota only. sorry for the stray OT.

WP 8 is going to have OTA update. And a rumour that 7.8 too (I dont know what for. Will MS release updates after 7.8 to 1st and 2nd generation?). But I think the Kernel CE is the one to blame here. Its not a big problem for me. You will have like 2~3 updates in one year. That gives one update every 4 months or 6 months. I dont mind connecting my WP to computer.

on what carrier are you?
It worked for my carrier unlocked Samsung Focus.
At first I installed the OS updates (4), then I tried to install the 5 lenguages that my phone needed but an error prevented that, so after I tried to install only my main lenguage and it worked!
I agree, it's not really worth it, I use the MMS feature, but this cab update method it's not very stable in all phones.
I finally couldn't take the disappearing keyboard issue on my HTC HD7s. As far as I read, AT&Crap had no intention of providing that update, or Tango for that matter. I followed the steps for the cab loading updates and they worked fine. Haven't noticed any adverse effects for the past few days. Now I just bide my time until my contract ends so I can grab whatever decent WP8 phones that come out.
We've been doing force update thing from the Mango days. It's a easy process *IF* people follow the directions. It does work but, you must have the correct language packs/files to install with it.
It also could remove your Unlock.
If you READ THE DIRECTIONS and RE-READ THE DIRECTIONS, then FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS you should be fine.
It's people who are in a rush who brick or screw up their phone.

I read a few comments on wpcentral that AT&T people with devices such as the Focus Flash have received the update through regular means/disconnecting from network while updating method.

Anyone else experience this?
Tango on at&t Lumia 900???
So is there any confirmation that people are able to do the Tango update on the Lumia 900 on at&t via the disconnect internet trick? I've tried a couple of times and been unsuccessful. I don't want to waste my time continuing if it won't work.

Yep I only have pictures/video enabled, anyone knows how to enable voicenotes?
After several attempts finally got the prompt for update OS to 7.10.8112 however the update was unsuccessful!! Did it 2nd time but again the update was unsuccessful???
Not sure why it's doing this? If I cannot update to 7.10.8112 then I cannot update to Tango 7.10.8773.98
Has anyone else experienced this on unlocked European Titan? If it helps I'm currently on OS version 7.10.8107.79 and with Bootloader version 2.6
What is your free space on your:
a) PC?
b) phone?
Also it should say some error number.

Have enough space on my laptop more then 50g and have around 5.95gb of free space on my handset.
Yes there was a error code displayed but remember what it was? I'll try again tonight after work and post here with the error code.

I followed cab sender method, which seemed to work fine. However, I also do not have Voice Note, instead I have Ringtone.
Any ideas? How do we enable Voice MMS? Is it a Carrier-restricted aspect?
