I have just got the black HTC Desire from Orange a couple of days ago and have noticed on the forum that some people have a start up sound on their phones when they turn them on. When I turn my Desire on it is completely silent!! is this normal???
Jayne
My Orange phone didn't have it either if I remember correctly.
Yeah, Orange phones don't have it - probably due to replacing the HTC boot screen with their own. If you really want it - and I don't know why you would - flash your phone to a generic ROM.
My T-Mobile branded handset doesn't have a start-up sound either, dunno about the other networks.
thanks all! was just worried in case there was something wrong with the phone. not bothered really whether it sounds on start up or not.... even if I did I would not know how to flash it anyway!
My Orange branded ROM didn't have any startup sound, it came with its own (horrible) boot screen lol, but rooting to the... Stock rooted ROM gave me the original HTC boot screen with the sound, its nicer but the sounds not...
Donald-c I agree with you the orange start up screen is horrid! Just out of curiousity how would you root the phone... is it easy and is there any risk of breaking the phone?
You lucky bastards
I use Silent Boot to shut mine up... "Quietly Brilliant" HAH!

i talked to ppc geeks all yesterday about this without any real insite. maybe i am the only one having this issue.
the issue is that the htc touch pro 2 is caught up in a rebooting loop. and nothing seems to fix it. even though it cant boot it can however flash a new rom just fine. but then it still reboots as it trys to load windows.
i dont have the orignal power adapter any more its lost i cant find it. so i have been charging it via usb.
the most common thing people are "sugesting" is that i charge it via a wall charger because they dont think its getting enough juce. but i left it pluged into a usb device all night and what happens is when it gets Fully charged it turns its self on and trys booting again. making a buzzing sound evory 10 seconds as it reboots.
i would like information on where to obtain a way to flash the old locked ipl onto the device so it looks not modifyed. so i can take it into the store and have it looked at, or so i can mail it in to htc.
i had it only over a month by just a little bit its sad to see somthing like this happen. god this phone is a pile of junk.
Hardware failure
Hi トロワ
It sounds like you are a victim of some kind of hardware failure. Sorry to hear that. If I were you I would reflash the stock ROM, then the Stock SPL and finally Security Lock it if you have unlocked it, and then send it back to HTC under the warranty if it still does not work.
Cheers

You flashed a CDMA ROM, right? I've seen a lot of people flashing GSM ROMs on their CDMA devices by mistake, and the same symptoms are displayed. Try flashing any ROM from here, and see what happens.
hi,
i had a similar problem with my old touch pro. cause I didn't flash any other rom I took the device to the shop. As they couldn't repair it I am now a owner of the touch pro2 (plus 20€) but maybe you should try to use another battery, maybe that's the problem. otherwise try to flash the original rom and take it to the shop.

Hi all, desire arrived yesterday and is fab. Only problemso far is that I have a red dot/pixel on the screen which is to the right of the 8 when I have the keyboard up. Tried 2 apps from market place to get rid but one comment said it wouldn't work on led screens - and it hasn't.
Is there anything I can do?
Ok so having done a bit of research whilst watching the GP, it appears that not a lot can be done. It's so small, only seen on light coloured backgrounds, that I might leave it. Will see if T-mobile want to swop though just in case
ring t-mobile they should give send you a new one in replacement
Yep, you should phone T-Mobile and ask for a replacement!
Hello.... T-Mobile?
I have a duff HTC desire... stuck pixles, etc...
Oh... you don't have any? when will you be getting more... HOW LONG???!!!!??? :-(
Hey guys,
picked up my desire a few weeks back, only just started using it the other day (was researching best way to transfer PIM data from HD2).
anyway, i was playing around with some of the built in apps and junk last night...in a room with the light off, and noticed that when the screen was black (on/illuminated, but not colour - the desk clock screen).. there is a reasonable strong green tint down the right hand side of the display. i have done a little research and have read some people have complains of green/blue/pink hues to their entire display.. but my green stain is only on part of the screen.
anyone else have this problem?
i went back to the store i got it from, they said that HTCs exchange policy requires me to send my device back, they will look at it and either repair or replace. seeing as the reason i bought the desire is to desperately escape WINMO, i figure the slight bug of a green stain is less of an inconvenience than using my HD2 for a few more weeks.
cheers.
Could be down to having a SLCD screen as opposed to an AMOLED one
The blue tint to the amoled screen is there on purpose, blue led's die alot quicker than other ones, samsung make there screen to over display blue, as your device gets older this blue will slowly die to a yellowy colour! Maybe the green tint is related?

I'm assuming so if it was only purchased a few weeks ago, could be wrong
yeah guys... i got the SLCD version.
i dont think its a natural screen 'quirk'.. as it only appears on a small portion of the screen.
cheers for the replies though ey.
I have the same problem on both my desires. One of them has a finish tint in the middle of the screen and this one has like a brighter spot on the top right of the screen. I have the SLCD screens. I bought the phones in Wisconsin.
Off topic
I feel so alone on this forum because everyone talks about the GSM version. Is there any news about froyo update for this phone on US Cellular? I love the phone but getting tired of waiting all the time. I just heard there's 3.0 coming out on the 11th of November. But not for Desire. I'm sure it will be there when my contract is over. Lol.

Solution to you brick
Past details of HTC bravo
Android 2.3
Hboot 1.02.001
I tried to unlock the bootloader by
1- HTC dev method
I started by the same procedure given on the
website. But the procedure didn't work for me,
when I commanded adb devices it never
showed my phone then when I commanded '
get oem identifier token ' I got another error. I
got frustrated
2- Then I went on to the mini_adb method by
using shell, Su commands
It neither worked
3- After that I came across the downgrade and
boot method, it resulted into a brick
But no worries my pals !!
Unbricked successfully !!
basically it was an Indian phone so some strong
securities
first installed this to my phone which had 2.3
android and hboot 1.02.001
RUU_Bravo_hTC_Asia_India_1.21.720.4_Radio_32.36.00 .28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127705_signed.exe
then my phone got bricked due to downgrade.
the led screen blackout happened and a vibrate
was at the startup and can navigate volume
buttons only*
then i got worried after that i installed this thing
to unbrick back
RUU_Bravo_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.19.707.7_Radio_32.36.00.2
8U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126179_signed.exe
then to no help after that this one
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.
05.00.11_release_122704.exe
and wahhoo!! unbicked my phone to 2.2
android, dont worry the phone will popup an
update notifier after you start your phone
I haven't used my Desire for 6 months or so and left it in the box with battery inside. (I must admit, I bought an iPhone ) Now, my wife wanted to have the desire and I thought I should set it up for her. However, after a bit of a charge, I started it but it is stuck on the HTC Logo screen and doesn't go any further. Taken battery out then in, taken sim and SD card out. also tried hard reset through volume button and wiped storage, but it still doesn't go beyond the boot screen. I had original Orange shipped rom. I did not do any rom upgrade or any unlocking/debranding etc. What I don't understand is that without any software update, howcome I have bricked the phone? Is it somehting to do with the battery, can dead battery behave like this.? What can go wrong while phone was in the box uncharged for six months???
As I cannot make a goldcard now as unable to start the desire beyond HTC logo, I cannot root this phone. I guess only option I have is to re-flash the phone through SD card. But this requires an image of Orange stock original rom in .zip format. Can someone help? point me towards a link where I can download original Orange UK Rom? I have tried everywhere, cant find anything. Anyone has dumped his original orange rom image before rooting and installing custom rom? can you forward the original rom image to me please??
Edit...
Can't you return it to Orange / HTC if its conpletely stock?

Yeah, as it was stock rom and nothing changed, less than 12 months old, therefore contacted Orange today. They said as there is no Orange Care plan taken on this phone, Orange covers only first six months of warranty. However, the manufacturer should cover whole 12 months. So the Orange CS contacted HTC and asked me to speak to them. HTC has arranged to collect my phone tomorrow and they will either fix it or replace it.
Orange CS was saying that if I start an orange care plan on this account today then they can arrange a replacement in 24 hours. But I thought I would try with the HTC first and get it fixed/ replaced without any cost.
Fingers crossed.
My rooted desire has been working fine since I have had it, today it was very laggy and i took the battery out and put it back in.
Now the phone does not boot up or into bootloader or Hboot. All that happens is that the led flashing green and orange continously.
Does anyone know how to fix? Im very worried about this.
well.. if it doesn't turn on at all.. it just sounds like your phone's dead.. there's nothing you CAN do but call HTC and tell them to fix it or give you a new one.. lol thought anyone could figure that one out
It was actually a faulty battery, got a new one and all works fine now.
And thanks for the really unhelpful advice.

you're absolutely welcome for the "really unhelpful" advice, considering exactly the same thing happened to me and turned out my phone was dead, preaching from experience.
