Sense version of Android 2.2 to be released H2 2010 - Desire General

I can't say this comes as a surprise...
http://www.androidcentral.com/most-2010-htc-android-phones-will-get-froyo-2010

It is almost H2... actually that could be in two weeks, or in 5 months, so... pretty useless statement.

It means 11:59PM on december 31st

Not really.
If they optimistic about the launch being soon they would have said Q3 2010 not H2 2010.
They are more than likely going to release it around september (Going by the hero that may actually end up being September 2011 )
Thank god for custom roms.

H2 2010 could be as early as 1st July or as late as 31st December so a pretty vaque date.
Im counting on the mod community for 2.2 on my Desire, actually prefer the nexus GUI anyway.

Well rumours going round ( I now, already)
the next release of android , named gingerbread, is
due q4 2010, so would be nice for us to get it 2.2 before the start
of q.4

sweet fancy moses I hope this doesn't go the same way as the Hero...

Looks that way to me

Who cares? We'll have it soon enough

That's the SDK build, someone had it running on the Hero as well. I'm sure it can be installed on the Desire but it isn't usable for day to day use. It's lacking a lot like the Market e.t.c.

In the next few weeks according to some sites.

Tweet from Google I/O (the official account) :
"Froyo will be made available to OEMs and the open source community in the coming weeks. #io2010"
Ball is in HTC's court now I guess.

seems like it, another HTC promise that will be delayed as usual.
gave up my HTC Hero and got Desire few weeks back.

I think Google would provide HTC with the new interface in the next few weeks. How long HTC takes to incorporate it into its Sense UI is anybody's guess.

IT corps don't give a range as wide as 6 months after the OEM product is announced unless they are not yet anywhere near release stage and not optimistic to release until the back-half of the time period mentioned. Standardized protocol by now; not good news at all

- Sent via my HTC Desire -

Hi all,
See below responsed I received today from HTC.
Thank you for contacting HTC.
We are dedicated to providing you with the best quality service and promptly responding to all your questions and concerns.
Here are some Frequently asked question regarding FROYO.
1.Why doesn't my HTC Desire have the Froyo version of Android?
We have been working on these phones for some time before Froyo was announced. In order to make these phones available to you as soon as possible, we had to launch them with the previous version of Android. However your phone will most likely get an update to the new Froyo version.
2.Will you upgrade my phone to Froyo?
If your phone was launched this year, we will most likely offer an upgrade for it to the Froyo version. This includes popular models like the Desire and Droid Incredible as well as hotly anticipated phones like the Evo 4G, MyTouch slide and upcoming models. We will announce a full list of phones and dates once we are closer to launching the upgrades.
3.When will my phone get an upgrade?
We are working closely with Google and our other partners to ensure we have the earliest access to everything we need to provide a complete and solid Sense experience on Froyo. We expect to release all updates in the second half of this year but can't be more specific yet.
4.It took much longer than you claimed to release the Éclair update for the Hero and Droid Eris, how do we know the Froyo won't be delayed too?
We have learned much from our first software upgrade experience and have taken all that into account when providing this estimate. While we are fairly sure this timeframe is accurate, we cannot guarantee it 100%. We won't rush to release an upgrade that is not ready for you to use without fear of problems, but we will do our best to hit our target.
5.How come my hero or droid Eris isn't getting an update to Froyo?
We feel that the Eclair update we are currently launching for these phones offers similar functionality and works much better in the smaller memory size of these phones. Why can't you just release a Google experience version of Froyo for the hero or Eris? We believe our users have grown to depend on many of the features of Sense not offered by Google's user experience. We believe Sacrificing those features would be more of a loss than users would gain in the changes from 2.1 to 2.2.
6.Will your Froyo update include wifi tethering? will carriers charge extra for it?
This decision will be a collaborative one between HTC and our carrier partners. It will likely differ between models and between carriers.

HTC Desire will get FroYo in
- 1 month = magic / mission impossible
- 2 months = We will love HTC a lot more
- 3 months = It is about the right time
- >3 months = That's late
- >6 months = most likely

well we should stop guessing and start anticaping once the exact dates are out which shouldn't be far from now, i personally can't wait because i have the stock ROM, and 120mb to apps in isn't very convenient, moving them to my 32GB memory card is.

WP7s on HD2 - Is it possible?

So I'm wondering what the concensus is. Are we going to see this or not?
The official word is obviously that there will be no upgrade for the HD2, but people seem to have hope in the community here. I'm not much of a dev/hacker to know for sure, so I'm wondering what you guys think...
The issues I'm hearing are:
Hardware buttons
GPU
On-board storage
Upscalling
The hardware buttons are obviously a non-issue. And from what MS is saying, despite not being able to swap out memory cards, SD storage can be used by OEMs to supplement on-board storage. But I dont know about the GPU and upscaling. Are these built in to the HD2 already? Is the upscaling a hardware or software issue? Are these things a deal breaker??
This would be most excellent if so,I just picked up a HD2 last night and even though I am back to edge speed ( which is not a real issue for me,lots of wifi around.) I LOVE THIS PHONE !!!
Man this thing is making me giggle like a school girl.....
I don't see anyone NOT putting it on there, especially when it hits America (If it hasn't already that is)
HOWEVER, i highly doubt you will want to use it. THey are going the iphone route. NO more File explorer and open source and multi tasking. All the things that made WinMO popular are apparently disappearing.
Disappoints me really. I jumped on the Android train. My first PDA was a dell X50

that's what im doing, 4 more days! cannot wait to get my hands on this beast!
All because of $$ !!
M$ want more developer to developes more app and game for WP7S, in order to do that, u need to convince developer that they can make $$ for the app. Currently it is to easy to get craXXk app for WinMo.
M$ learnt the good idea for iPhone by locked down the system so u can only purchase from App Store. By doing these, M$ will stand good chances to complete will iPhone (Gen 4) in the future.
My only wish is : Hopefully M$ don't be hash on XDA, cos i believe XDA will make something interesting from WP7S for HD2 ... i believe.
Althought I'm glad others are showing interest, I was hoping to make this a technical discussion around the facts of whether it can or cannot happen. And maybe at this point the answer is "we dont know." But hopefully we'll get more answers in time...
I think the question is not whether or not the HD2 will receive the upgrade to 7. Officially or unofficially, I think its just a matter of time. May not be as soon as youd like, but I't will get there. Its more a question of how relevant the HD2 will be be the time win7 is made available to it. Also, will there be able to be some kind of dual boot option available. The way 7 is shaping up, I'm not too enthused about only having 7. I would use 7 for gaming, social use, and winMo 6.5 when I'm looking to get my hands dirty.
Is it a Tomtom icon we can see? is the old version or is tomtom already developpe a new one in Sylverlight?
AFAIK that image is simply a skin over the top of WM6.5 rather than WM7s, so it is a current tomtom app

No, that image was published on winmo.nl during the Barcelona unveiling of WP7, long before any WP7 skins were created.
Right now it looks like it was either fake (just an HD2 showing a WP7 picture on its screen) or an early development version of the OS, not destined to ever be released on the HD2.
Winmo.nl claimed the TomTom app worked fine on WP7, possibly because 'tomtom was already preparing their software for WP7'.

It'll probably be iPhone 5g before WP7 will be any threat. iPhone 4g is probably coming out in June/July, a few months before WP7 is even out.
Though the HD2 is a fantastic device and loved by anyone (incl myself) who lays their hands on it, you can't help but feel somewhat bitter that a device of such magnitude is just going to be ANOTHER HTC phone almost solely kept alive by xda-developers.
You can see MS's reasoning. You can love the sheer beauty of the HD2. But Jesus - think of the potential going to waste and how it comes across to consumers who hear 'hey, your device is outdated already'. Consumers that haven't even got the device available in their country yet.
One word - Flash. THAT'S reason enough to be at least a little pissed off as an HD2 user.
A joke, it is - but in XDA I trust.
unfortunately, HD2 doen't support WM 7, WM7 only support 3 solid buttons, no more, no less....
HD2 has 5 solid buttons, so...give up to upgrade to WM 7
If the HD2 has a WP7 test build running on it somewhere at HTC and it gets leaked the HD2 should easily get an unofficial upgrade but if that doesn't happen it won't be easy.

You're clearly new to this part of town...
camera hardware button is also a requirement...
an interesting key i found on my T-Mobile HD2 HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\WM7KeybdLayout.
Very strange indeed
I'm pretty sure hardware keys would be irrellivant to getting this on the phone.
My understanding of the key requirements are based upon the chassis version been used with WP7. I think these are basically stipulated purely for the user experience Microsoft are trying to give and not software limitations.

Don't know if it's, as some people posted after flashing jph, good news.
since JPH is still buggy, they'd better work harder and give it some time

6 Days To supposedly release
http://www.timeanddate.com/counters...&month=09&day=23&hour=12&min=00&sec=00&p0=195
It wouldn't surprise me.. Software development is never a definitive process. It's impossible to determine how long something will take. Sometimes it takes quicker than expected, sometimes longer.
as i said elsewhere, if they cancel release and work on it further before releasing it's a good thing for us.
if they release the current version they will prolly stop working on fixing the important stuff
if they dont and delay further it means they have realized the "important stuff" REQUIRES fixing before release
in a nutshell:
- RFS performance (replacement would be neat but they are too proud of their own FS or smth.. weird)
- GPS accuracy ( /pray ?)
- Reported critical software bugs (exchange, etc)
Luckily they read XDA
Just a question - how is this question for development section?

Jerahmeel Zacky Chua So Galaxy S was first released in SG... Are we the first to get Froyo too?
Wednesday at 5:09pm · Flag
2 people like this.
Samsung Mobile Singapore Hi Jerahmeel, unfortunately not. Europe will be getting it first. SG should still be getting at end of Sep.
Samsung UK mobile on twitter are still giving out the "end of September " answer on Twitter so...... who knows. I'd say samsung but I'm starting to doubt that!
We'll just have to wait and see right?
I prefer they another week or 2 to really finalize it and fix all the bugs before releasing instead of rushing for a release which only disappoints.
cheers man, I am personally not offended but some people might be a bit more PC
ontopic: i wouldn't mind upgrading to froyo knowing it had bugs, but at the same time knowing it would get updated within a reasonable time frame. the problem we have with samsung (apart from having to put up with their developing "skills") is that they are very quiet. you only find out about stuff per semi-dodgy twitter or facebook accounts.
very likely samsung is rushing froyo to pre-empt the Desire HD which ships with froyo. (and early previews seems to indicate a very mature froyo at that) and latest reports says the Desire HD may even ship a week earlier...so our buddy Mr Sam Sung is in a bit of a bind here....lol.
rushed the 2.1 to pre-empt the iphone4 and now trying to rush 2.2 to pre-empt the HD....tough being mr sam.
And then they'll rush their new gingerbread phone to market and forget all about their galaxy s customers..... :/

Well if they forget about their Galaxy S customers with regard to Gingerbread, they wont be doing themselves any favours with a phone that's been on the market a less than a year.
I know new Android phones are constantly being released but Samsung will not announce a new phone as soon as Gingerbread is released.
The Galaxy S will still be a flagship product and companies will need to take a leaf out of Nokia's book.
Look how many people stuck with the likes of Nokia for many years.
Companies like Samsung producing Android phones need to start getting their act together with the OS, otherwise it'll end up as a one horse race and the likes of HTC will end up with the largest slice of the market.
I don't expect to see any proper froyo for SSGS in the near future.
However Samsung should at least release the official GPS fix within this September since this problem is already a know issue for a long time and they can have separate development between this and the froyo one.
the galaxy s line is selling very well, so i'd guess that they can not afford to let us standing in the rain when comparable htc/motorola devices get gingerbread. as to the froyo update: i hope they take their time to improve speed and fix the remaining bugs. at least for us 'power-users' (flashers) it would be preferable that they release an official froyo firmware (INCLUDING the SOURCE -> voodoo fix) but improve it further over the next month or 2...

From what I remember, Microsoft has reported atleast 3 different times stating that there will be no release of WP7 on the HD2. While the HD2 has been considered a test device to build WP7, it is not worth their time to build a fully funtional build on what they might call an old device. There is also the fact that Microsoft has certain restrictions on what devices will support WP7, and the HD2 does not qualify under these restrictions. Since it is Microsoft that designated these restricitons, HTC would be unable to release an official build of WP7 even if they wanted to.
The HTC HD7 is almost identical to the HD2 in terms of hardware. If anything, I would think the best unofficial build would come from this device.
I also don't doubt that there will be a build of WP7 for the HD2 in the very near future

If it supports your phone, it will be an over the air update when its released sometime next month.

You can buy at a stand
But Desire won't get any updates, only custom ROM (hopefully).
You probably own an HTC Desire since you posted this question here... then you'll have to wait just like the rest of us for our awesome developers to port the ROM over.
We are not gonna get any over the air update since HTC ended their support for our device already.

Well it released Feb last year, but I agree that HTC really messed up with the Gingerbread update, Desire owners deserved that one done properly.
As for ICS, can't really expect HTC to support the Desire that far... it'd be the third major update.

Because it wasn't released as a normal, OTA update. Instead, HTC released a very late, buggy version via their website, and so your average desire owner probably doesn't even know a GB update exists.
That's because with OTA they couldn't delete content from system. And it ain't more buggy than FroYo, in fact it's less buggy than FroYo.

Sure, it's less buggy than froyo, but you would expect that, really. Some of the bugs that I really thought would be addressed were still present.
And you can't deny that when a manufacturer releases an update that has warnings and disclaimers on it, it hasn't been done quite as smoothly as Samsung/Apple.
Because of memory constraints (duh!).
No chance of ics on HTC desire unless ported thru custom Rom
If HTC will remove gapps, then it will be easily possible, even if with old Sense.
Rooted and get an custom ROM will give you ice cream earlier. Forget HTC.
Doubt very much if we will see ICS on Desire...
ICS is optimised for dual-core and also features virtual keys. There is already speculation on the Sensation boards whether they will see the update, due that device using soft keys.
I imagine HTC will tweak ICS to run on Sensation, but can't see them adapting to Desire. Too many deficiencies to be addressed.
Hoping our awesome devs will be able to at least port various bits and pieces from Android 4.0 for us to enjoy, though!!

Well we will probably, just that we won't see it from HTC as they dropped support for Desire.
Because ICS will essentially work with any phones that can run Gingerbread (not just dual-core). And apparently ICS checks if your device have hardware keys or not, if there is, they will not display the virtual keys. And i can't really see Google being so stupid to only restrict ICS to phones without hardware keys as there are essentially no other phones besides the galaxy nexus that do not have hardware keys.
Also, we already have a port of ICS SDK, here. Its not usable or perfect, but at least it proves that the Desire can run ICS.

Question No more OP 9 Pro updates?

Really?

The latest OTA is version 11.2.8.8.LE15AA, I think that one in the screenshot is the full version download preceding the latest OTA updates, but IDK for sure lol
Edit - my default kernel was built on Jul 8 2021, and android security date/level is 7/1/21 ... HTH
I read about OnePlus getting new people to make a team to work on Open Beta for 9/9Pro.
I like that!
New team is not something to like. It might be good but also be a disaster. Questions should be asked like WHY????? are they getting a new team? What happened to all the revenue they made and how are they using it? Who is controlling the company, One Plus or the Chinese government? Why the delay to begin with. I realized DP1 was developers preview and not beta but why not allow Google updates for DP 2 and three. Who cares that Oxygen was not on it yet. Now that stability been reached with Beta, let's us Early Adopters adopt. I refuse to buy a Google Pixel love my one plus but was so excited that it allowed BL to be unlocked but I feel let down by OP. Perhaps my expectations were unrealistic to begin with

This update is from June. (end of the month)
There's an update (11.2.8.8) from July. (end of month)
So, following this logic, this week OnePlus might release a new one.

I'd be more worried if the US government was running it like apple with the new back door.

People get married, have kids, no more time to spend on Android. Priorities change.

People get married, have kids, no more time to spend on Android. Priorities change. I also think not only priorities of people's lives but also Android itself and the huge slowdown of phone evolution. Actual since smartphone sales slowed companies like apple and Google created smart watches to help increase revenues. They first used the old nostalgic movies like knight rider or James bond to sell them even though Smart watches cannot do anything close to what the movies portrayed. You can make flippable phones but you won't see hologram s coming out of your phone. I know we love to always think of our technology being limitless but that dam law of physics keeps getting in the way. So now they will start with AR glasses with WebView capabilities. And when that fails, which it will because who wants a HUD I'm their line of sight. In 30 years we will events have implants and chips that will help the brain and technology link. Isn't it Neurolink that exists now. That technology is decades away. Because again we do not know how the body/brain will react and now I'm having flashback from the movie Black Mirror.

Ain't no updates that can save this POS.
the support update page is only updated from time to time, it does not repesent the actual stage of the software.
At this point 11.2.8.8 is up 2 date. OnePlus updates bi-monthly.

There's closed beta testing so maybe devs are focusing to it. Sad to see no fix for Gmail notification bug...

I think the gmail app just sux. I've experienced the late notifications across quite a few devices personally.
Oxygen sucks because of google. The more google on it the more bad Oxygen will be.
Also the King of Bloatware, samsung already gets Androis 12.
And OnePlus release 9R or something...
They are starting the ultimate consolidation of Oxygen OS into Color OS. How is OnePlus going to manage all these phones? Do they even have enough staff to manage all these phones?
Unfortunately they only update bi-monthly.
I saw a user suggest on their official forums basically say "hey guys, how about monthly updates like your competition?" in a friendly way, and a mod basically said **** off and closed the thread. I wasn't impressed.
This was my first OnePlus device, maybe my last.
That 12 Beta debacle was ridiculous.
After having the 7, 8, & 9 Pro, I will be leaving the building as well!
Is this a joke? About month last update and now ppl are think this is over. How do u even can survive this life?
I like how people actually think theres a decent alternative to oneplus these days. At least not in the US. Maybe google if the pixel 6 is actually premium/flagship this time. Otherwise theres no other brand with an unlockable bootloader, which is how they get away with so much bloat. Personally im fine of oneplus becomes a little more like the others as long as the hardware is premium and the bootloader is unlockable.
9 Pro is my first and last phone from OP if they can't get they BS sorted out. The phone has horrible battery life, scrolling issues, and it doesn't get better with next updates. Also, wtf is that BS with the bi-monthly update scheudle? A device like this should be fixed ASAP, the users are experiencing problems and neet to wait, the hell is that policy? Would they wait 2 months to release an update if someone would find a security bug too? So stupid. Get your **** together OnePlus.
