email only working with wifi enabled? - HD Mini Themes and Apps

Hey Forum,
I have my HD mini for a few days now and I've set up two different IMAP email accounts. One is a Gmail account, the other is off a domain i own.
When I have WIFI enabled, then everything is fine.. I go to an Inbox and hit menu => send/recieve and the new mails arrive.
When I then disable the WIFI connection, then my phone doesn't do anything. It just states "Connecting" in the status bar and then pops out a message saying that it couldn't connect and I should check the settings.
Meanwhile, I can use the mobile internet off my contract without a problem in other apps. Say Opera, IE, Facebook and so on. So the Link is up, just the emails won't work.
What I tried:
- changing the ssigned connection to the mobile one in:
"Mail Inbox => menu => extras => options => choose mail accounts => edit settings, continued to mail-out server, there is an "advanced settings" link where I can set the assigned connction either to "internet" or to "contract name".
When Internet is chosen, I can fetch mails via WIFI.
Otherwise, when my provider (T-Mobile Internet) is chosen or WIFI is disabled, then nothing works.
What the hell is that? This can't be a feature, right? How can I fix this?
Thanks
€dit: Sorry, I didn't recognized that I was posting in the wrong Forum. SHould have gone to the "General" board.,..

try:
-windows button
- e-mail
- select your account
- edit account setup
-next, next, until outgoing (smtp) mail server
-you'l find advanced server setting on the bottom, click on it
-select your main internet connection (anything else than The Internet)
this should work

HI Radu,
sadly, this does not work with my IMAP accounts!
I just did a RESET on my phone because of this error and it still does nothing. everything else works... I can use web, some apps like facebook, peep, skype, pigeon IM and so on!
Side note: When I
- set any account to use "Internet" (not the 3g contract)
- then disable WLAN and my contract data connection
- head over to an inbox of a mail-acc
- press send/recieve from the menu
THEN: 3G connection is being connected, in status i can read:
- connecting ...
- logging in ...
then it aborts.
sometimes the phone says "synchronisation error" and sometimes it says I should check my account setup. But like I've mentioned the setup is fine. as soon as WIFI is enabled, all the accounts do work.
I have a mobile flat rate via "mobilcom debitel" which is in the german T-Mobile net.
I'm just a tip away from dumping that crap on the ground and stomping on it untill I arrive in australia.
Thanks for your time

OK. Solution found. The contract mobilcom debitel D1 aborts all connections to IMAP/POP because they want to sell their Push-Mail package.
****ing annoying.

Unable to browse to secure sites

I just receieved my TP2 yesterday from mobilephonesdirect (with a T-Mobile contract).
I've run into a problem with trying to browse to secure sites or access my hosted exchange and pop email accounts (both over secure connections).
Activesync returns the error "ActiveSync cannot reach the server. Check that the server address and proxy server settings are correct.". Trying to browse to a https://... address in opera mobile causes it to crash, and in IE I get a dialog saying it cannot find the url and "Make sure the path or Internet address is correct."
I did discover this thread over at expansys about the same problem with the Touch Pro (http://www.expansys-usa.com/ft.aspx?k=113037) but following the steps doesn't work for me, unticking the "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet" option just reticks it the next time I view the settings.
I can't find any settings different between my new TP2 and Vario3 so I'm stuck. Has anyone else had issues?
It's fixed now
I did a soft reset and then the unticking the proxy server setting actually worked. Not quite sure why the TP2 requires this to be unticked yet my Vario 5 is working with it ticked.
Doesn't work
I can untick the proxy but this doesn't solve my activesync/exchange problem. I can access POP3 email etc fine and access my exchange account over wifi or via USB, so I assume it's a T-mobile issue. Anybody any help? I have tried searching and the only other h suggestion was to change proxy server to end in .135 instead of .132, but this doesn't work either.
Now does work
Had to delete the T-mobile settgins that wereautomatically configured, restart, then do the automatic configuration again, then uncheck proxy box before making any connections, then restart and voila!

Touch Pro 2 and gmail

I have had my TP2 for a few days now and i love it, except for the fact that I cannot send or receive email from my gmail account
I can access the internet fine, and use the youtube app fine, but whenever i try to send an email or hit send/receive i get this error message
"CANNOT CONNECT WITH CURRENT CONNECTIONS SETTINGS. TO CHANGE YOUR SETTINGS, TAP SETTINGS"
When i set up the email the only things i was required to supply were my email address and password....so i am assuming the problem lies with the way my handset is trying to access the gmail account, ie. trying to use wifi or something? (i dont have wifi, so i will only be using the "unlimited" interent provided with my t-mobile UK tariff)
has anyone else had this problem or do they know how to get around it as i have finally got myself a decent handset where i can (allegedly!) check my email on the move, but yet i somehow cant get it working?!!
Ihave tried both hard and soft resets to get this sorted but it just wont work and i feel like pulling my hair out!
n
I know it's not much consolation but it just worked for me...
I have a SIM free TP2 and UK T-Mobile Web'n'Walk.
Incoming mail server is imap.gmail.com
Account type is IMAP4
Username is my full gmail username
Outgoing mail server is smtp.gmail.com
outgoing server requires authentication is ticked
All this was set via automatic configuration.
Hope this helps,
Richard
This is what i have done to recieve and send Gmail trueout the standard email client on my Pro II.
First of all you have to enable imap at your gmail account which you can find under settings.
Then on your phone do the following settings.
- make an new account in your email client
- fill in your gmail adress
- fill in your name
- fill at incomming mail "imap.gmail" and account type "imap"
- fill in your account name (gmail adress) and password
- fill at outgoing mail server smtp.gmail.com
and those two checkboxes must be checked
- auto recieve and send is up to you
hope this will help you
ther's a known bug in windows mobile poutlook...
sometimes the autoconf for gmail doesn't work...(i had the same issue on my omnia)
you only need to enter the account details by hand..
to do that, in the first screen where your address is asked, enter [email protected]
leave it without the final m.
after that fill in manually all the account details, then when finished edit the account and put that m in the domain...
that should work...at least in my omnia was the only way to get gmail working...
I used this guide en it works perfectly

hi, thanks or all the replies, most appreciated.
however, i have now established that i can get my gmail account working - but only over wifi!?!? when the wireless router is turned off i get the same message as before, so there must be a setting or something that is telling my TP2 to look for a wireless connection when performing a send/receive, rather than using the "internet" (if thats the right term) that is included in my contract..AAAARGH...
i have had a look but cannot find any settings for this so i must be going mad?
can anyone shed any light on this for me before i go mad??!!

Disable proxyserver, don't have the place where you can find this. I have a dutch rom
I have a gmail imap connection on my HTC Touch that was working great but has failed to connect for the past two hours or so.
I found that to change from Download 30 Days to 7 days and it worked fine.
Oddly I returned my TP2, and switched back to my VarioV, same problem (had worked fine until then). New TP2 is now here, so will start with 7 days and try expanding to 30 days later.

does anyone know how to do this? i cannot find this option anywhere?
is there any way i can see how my tp2 is trying to receive data from my gmail account, ie. if it is trying to use internet or wifi?!?
also, does anyone have any details for the settings that their tp2 (on t-mobile UK) is using when trying to retrieve email (not by wifi)??!
i'm also assuming that t-mobile wont be able to help me as i got my phone/contract via a third party and t-mobile themselves dont seem to stock the phone themselves....
I had this problem, it drove me nuts until I worked out what it was, if i was already connected it would work but it would not establish its own new connection.
To fix it go into the email settings for the account, then select:
Edit Account Setup
Next
Next
Next
Next (Outgoing (SMTP) mail server screen)
Click the “Advanced Server Settings” Link
In the “Network connections” it defaults to “The Internet” but if you have gone through the “Connection Setup Wizard” when you first installed your SIM it renames the connection, in my case to “T-Mobile Internet”.
Change “Network Connections” to the correct one i.e. “T-Mobile Internet”
hey presto, you can now get your emails
hope this helps everyone

if the connection has a proxy in the setup, than you can use that connection only if selected like above...
if you leave "The internet" the proxy settings are ignored...you have to select the exact connection..but this will prevent the gmail to connect with wifi

Leave Email On Server

How do I set up my email so that it leaves a copy on the server so when I get to my laptop the message can be downloaded? I do my email on my laptop but need to be able to receive / send email from my HTC as well. Thanks!
By using POP account setup. I have POP on my TP2 and on my home computer... On my home computer I have set on the account settings that when I remove the email in my Outlook it will remove it from the server...

So ... what is the setting on your TP2 that specifies, "do not remove from server"?
There is a setting on the edvanced settings menu when you setup the account, or go to edit the account settings.

use imap instead of pop. pop downloads messages and wont mark them as read on the server or delete them after a month or whenever you set it, and some pop clients delete the email from the server after its pulled. imap is much more advanced and if you can get imap-idle you get push email support.
Leave Email on Server, and other Advanced Settings
I have been frustrated with this issue also. I use my phone for POP email when I am away from my computer. It is almost always business, and I need to keep records of communications in one place. Using Outlook, I archive all old emails to a network server. Since installing my current ROM, I have been unable to find access to the email size, signature and delete handling options. As a result, emails that I delete from the phone also get deleted from the server before I download them to my PC. This is a big problem since I sometimes delete messages from my phone without taking action - planning to deal with them the next day from the office. Dealing with multiple email accounts and up to 50 messages per day makes the phone very cluttered unless I regularly clear them out.
I just discovered the "back door" into the old WinMo style advanced email settings using a tip from another thread regarding email signatures.
I am using the Energy ROM (08-Sep-10, which I love). Here is how to get to the advanced email settings:
1) From any email Inbox (not the Sense screen) tap Menu/Tools/Options to get to the Messaging settings page.
2) Tap an email account on the list.
3) Tap "Send/Receive Schedule".
4) Tap "Advanced Settings" at the bottom of the screen.
5) Choose your option under "When deleting messages:"
Other advanced options are also available this way, including email signatures for each account, as well as download size and scheduling.
I'm happy again!
Tim
Thank you for resurrecting this 9 month old thread.
I too thank you for posting this. I needed to change this on one of my accounts but had forgotten where the change needed to be made. You saved me lots of time searching.
Again, thanks much for the direction.

WiFi on + radio off = Browser but no E-mail? WTF?

I had this problem on my BlackBerry, too, and I figured it was some stupid RIM thing. But now I'm having it on my Touch Pro 2.
I want to run on WiFi but with the radio off -- like when I'm roaming someplace expensive, but in a hotel where there's WiFi. When I do this, I can browse just fine, but the Inbox (standard WM mail program) says it can't make a connection. When I turn the radio back on, the mail comes through... but I don't know which connection it's using.
Anybody know how to fix this? Or at least, what's going on?
I dont know exactly what the problem is here, but i've always had this problem, I actually havent even tried just wifi in a while. I would say just use the http version of your email when you turn the radio off to save the frustration
I found the answer.
The connection that the Inbox uses to contact the server is set in the server settings -- so you can have a different approach for each server, I guess. Anyway, it's:
Tools > Options
Then tap the name of the server you want to change. On the next screen, tap Edit Account Setup. Then it's Next, Next, Next, Next, (4 of them) until you get to the screen that says Outgoing (SMTP) mail server: and lets you set up an outgoing server. At the bottom is a link that says Advanced Server Settings. Tap that, and look at the pull-down for Network Connection. There should be one called The Internet, which does NOT exist in Start > Settings > Connections. As far as I can tell, that's the WiFi. If you choose that, then tap Next until you tap Finished, Inbox will retreive E-mail via WiFi even if the radio is turned off.

Thanks!!! That works well on every pop-email-account for me!
But how can I choose the connection for my hotmail-account in the inbox? I found no way to prevent using the GSM-connection without switching the radio off, when I try to update my hotmail-account.
Anybody knows how to fix this?

[SOLVED] How to fix missing email account [after battery died]

PRetty much says it all. I was running titanium, Energy rom. Battery went dead, and now I can't access my email. In titanium it still shows my email account, but if I click on it, nothing happens. If I turn on Max Sense, I can read all of my old emails on the email screen, but I can't view any of them. If I click the mail link through the start menu, it only offers to setup a new account. If I do, and enter the same account name, it says the account name already exists.
Anyone know how to reconnect the email box? I am guessing it is something in the registry?

The easiest thing to do (if you turn on MaxSense) is to go to the Mail Tab, press Menu > Account Settings > Delete the e-mail account. Then you can recreate the account.
This has happened to me and several others in the past. Although, this hasn't happened to me for a few months now, and I don't know what causes it.
Thanks! You led me right to the solution:
If you go to the mail tab, press Menu, got to account settings, then instead of deleting the account, click edit.
Amazing! There is no incoming or outgoing server info in there!!! Weird! I replaced it, also had to replace my password, though username was ok. And Voila! Got my email box back.
Thanks again.
Still no idea why this happened. At the same time my 3G stopped working. I had to resetup my ATT connection, and also had to go into communication manager and turn on data connection. Super weird. Anyone have any ideas?

Hmm...When I tried to do that when this happened to me, it didn't even recognize the accounts! All I could do was delete them. You got lucky! Glad you got it working, though!
Maybe you could try reflashing your radio (since your 3G stopped working -- unless, of course, AT&T's towers are down in your location). Or you could try forcing your phone into 3G in Comm Manager (tap the 3G bar > Network Type: WCDMA > Done) then go to Start > Settings > Connections > Connection Setup. The latter method sometimes helps me reconfigure my data.
Thanks for this idea, it fixed my identical email problem too. I think somehow the 3g connection setup wizard is erasing the email server settings. It might also be resetting the credentials in the registry. I had to reenter my activesync server password which still worked besides that.
I rebooted my phone and couldn't get the 3g to start. It wouldn't even try. I've manually fixed the auth fail type of errors before, where it starts to connect, drops, and retries. But this wasn't even starting to connect, so I reran the setup wizard.
The really strange part about being able to restore the server settings via sense is that the mailbox doesn't even show up in the normal windows mobile email settings program. If it wasn't for sense I wouldn't have been able to fix or delete this mailbox.
