Hi, can you confirm whether Desire supports Cell ID? The reason I'm asking is because I would like to write an app to use Cell IDs but I still don't have an Android phone. I have bitter experience with Windows Mobile which supports Cell ID only on a handful of handsets. So I have to decide which Android phone that supports Cell ID with 100% certainty to buy
Cheers!
Of course it supports cell id. Every GSM phone does.
Yes, it supports cell id

Technically yes, but on some phones you can't get it programatically because it's locked by the device driver. I have a LG KS20 running on WinMo and there's no way of getting the Cell ID. I spend like a month trying all possible ways to get it (like RIL, connecting to a COM port, even browsing the device's memory) and none of them worked. That's why I needed to know

good day all,
new to the WM arena and come seeking some knowledge.
i would like to know how i would know if my TP2 is
a gsm or a cdma phone.
also i been playing and would like to know how i
can "format" and reinstall WM but the factory version
and not one that is crippled by service providers.
now i seen words used like rom, radio, spl and do not have the
fogiest clue what that all means to me. this is a
step up from flashing normal java based phones
also how can i get rid of all my connections except the 1 used for internet and mms? there is a whole stack of them but not
lister under connections.
looking forward to some heavy duty learning and lots of reading.
thanx ahead ...

Not accurate. The CDMA phones for both Verizon & Sprint have SIM cards since they're world phones.
The easy way is just to tell us what carrier/country you have & we can tell you if your device is GSM or CDMA.

It is also wildly inaccurate because Japan and a few others don't use GSM and they have SIM cards. Technically they are RUIM cards, but they look the same.
As xnifex said, please state the carrier it was purchased from or the branding on the phone before we can ascertain the technology behind it.

how rude of me, sorry.
my SP is Vodacom(majority share held by vodafone)and my home country is South Africa. i think it would be safe to asume that my phone is GSM.
thanx for the replies.
Don't see it as rude. You were genuinely inquiring about information you didn't know. That isn't rude I don't think.
Since I just noticed we all glanced over some of the other info you were requesting I will go over it.
A rom is basically the "firmware" that is loaded. The "radio" is the hardware that allows you to connect to the network, but it is interchangeably also used to refer to the radio rom. The firmware that controls the radio. Different radios may perform better or worse. The SPL is the bootloader.
And welcome to the community!

ah, that makes sense.
a giant step up from flashing normal phones. i always flashed my
SE phones. tee hee.
now from what i figured i need to do the unlocking of the spl
then i can flash a rom, now this is the question. what rom to choose and can i use WM 6.1 and 6.5 or shoul i keep to 6.1 as is atm on my TP2? also will a new custom rom have no settings so i can setup my own settings? also i want to have full access to every possible feature and setting if possible.
after all this i would like to extend my programming to
this wonderfull new world.
i will stop now. dont want to scare people away with my long posts. hehehe
This phone, if I'm not mistaken, works with CDMA 850 - 1900 bands which my HTC Desire uses for Open Mobile in Puerto Rico. I'm looking for a thread or tutorial that shows me how to configure a different carrier on a cellphone (mine does not carry the Epic).
However, it's hard to find. No threads show up on this forum, for example. Obviously the GSM SIM chip is almost plug and play, provided it's a world phone or already unlocked. Where I'm going is: does the cellphone automatically detect my network? Do I need to input data into the phone (I'm guessing yes) or change settings / tick boxes?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
Can someone please reply? I've searched the net and used the search tool. Is it one of those "too obvoius" things? I believe there should be a lot more interest in this topic.
I spoke to an Open Mobile representative and she told me that the company searches the ESN to see if it's one of their phones. If it's not, they won't approve service for it. Is there a workaround? I just want to use the phone I want with the service I want, if it's possible. I believe this phone is compatible.
From the knowledge I have there is not a legal way to do this.

What he said. ESN cloning might be a gray area in some circumstances rather than completely illegal but it's not allowed to be discussed on XDA.
Does anyone know for sure??? if you can or cannot use the note 8 lte as a phone like the overseas version? So far no joy. Is it hardware or can we load some kind of app to make it work like the note 2?
Someone will probably have to port over the 5120 or 5100 firmware in order to try it since it doesn't' have the phone software installed. Give it some time.

Absolute worst case use Google voice or Vonage with call forwarding from your cell phone number. You can also sideload a mms.apk for texting. For call forwarding you have to enable the native dialer. I haven't tested it on this device but on the n7 3g you had to decompile the framework-res.apk and go to values, then bools.xml and change voice capable to true. This will unlock the native Google dialer hopefully. From there in the settings you can forward your voice calls to your Google voice or Vonage phone number.

talking of the sgh-i467, im living outside us... couldn t find anywhere to buy it other than att witch require ssn.... d you have any idea were i can buy it ? I dont want the international version since I ould like to have the LTE.... (living in Canada...)
Skype works fine, phone calls and skype to skype calls.
XDA section for the SGH-I467
Anybody knows why there is no section for this device yet ? also I tried to search all around to find stock firmware for it but I couldn't... anybody have odin images for it ?
Take it for what its worth but I called samsung and they said the att version does not have a voice radio in it.
I used the original AT&T Galaxy Tab as a phone for 2 1/2 years. The hardware worked fine. Never heard of a "voice radio." I have heard that AT&T had Samsung remove an earpiece speaker. If true, then you'd have to use your Note 8.0 with a wired ear phone, Bluetooth device or as a speaker phone. The critical issue for me is: how will this item sell? I don't see AT&T selling a lot of them. To mean that means that the endusers will see fewer ROMs down the road. Developers here can probably root this device and unlock the bootloader. Someone will -- at some point in the next few months -- make a ROM with voice capabilities available. And don't expect "official" Cyanogen releases.
However, AT&T may block the the Note 8.0 from access to voicecalls based on the IMEI. Now, the IMEI can be hacked, but that's -- legally speaking -- a gray area. Altering IMEIs to get "free" service is illegal. Doing so to access service that you're paying for violates the letter of the law, but not its intent and won't bring about any dire result.
At the end of the day, you may be able to access (after jumping through a lot of hoops) AT&T voice services and use the phone for a year or so, but it's not worth the bother. Get the S4 and tether a decent cheaper wifi tablet to it. Yes, it's nicer to have one device, but under this conditions impractical.

I am in the exactly the situation you have describe. How does one go about hacking imei?

phone dialer
I was looking in Titanium backup and saw a dialer... maybe this could help with development
at&t note 8.0 sgh-I467
Seems to either be to dificult to root this device or its just not practible , no one wants a sim unlock
advertisement we can look else where or google it lol, we want a bootloader unlock . If you want to talk on this model download talkatone
if you want to move apps to sd card download ghost commander there is no real good way to
root this particular device there are at least 4 or 5 versions n5100 n5110 n5120 sghmi467 and sghi467
I have tried unsucessfullyo root this device by any forums the only one that gave me root access was cwm
super user and paid version of busy box , now if you have a computer more advanced than mine then
corbins is a good one and the detoxed version using adb is good howrver there is still no custom rom
Dogmans idea of saferoot also is good to go hiwever no custom rom I even tried safestrap 3.65 from hash
code not working with this device I used flashfly and fladhed the 5120 boot.img Big Mistake corbins p cloud
i467 camf1 got me out of that wirh odin 3.07 its known Hash Code has this on todo list of devices but he is
a very busy man im an idiot compared to this genious and I surrender like I teally had a chance to defeat that
the At&t sgh- i467 variant is a complicated piece of code that only the best is going to gid er dun !!!!!!!
I hope this may help others not to have a 1count on thier devce or soft brick !!!!!!!

Hi guys,
I have the N5100 3G version. I have had it since may and it has worked well. However, since yesterday, Three UK started blocking me from using data. It says I have to get a tablet sim. The problem is I don't want to loose the ability to make phone calls.
Has anyone had an issue like this?
I'm also having the same issue, I have spoken to three support today at length with the result being "we can sell you a mobile broadband plan sim that you can swap out for data" - it appears that Three have launched the LTE version on the note 8 as a tablet only device (ie, no phone or text) and so are blocking all versions of the note 8 under that ruling.
I'm going to try and get to talk to someone not loacted in India tomorrow to look into this as this is my main device for phone calls aswell as data and I'm locked into the one plan for another 9 months!

Yay, I am not the only one! I am really disappointed with it. They don't seem to understand me, I also use it as my main device. I do wonder how they identify the device, it would be good if we could change it so they think its a phone.

We 5100 owners in the US want the exact opposite: tablet plans are so much cheaper, we wish it were recognized as tablets instead of phones! If they are identifying your device by imei number, you may be able to get around it by using an imei from an LTE version. I had a similar issue (in reverse) and that's how it was resolved. I may eventually get caught, but for now, I'm flying under the radar.

How difficult was that to do?
Be careful talk of changing imei is against the TOS on these forums. As tempting as it sounds it is both dangerous and legally dubious. It is a common tactic used by phone thieves to activate stolen phones. Also modifying such information can render your phone a paper weight if not careful.
