Android on Sprint TP2 - used on GSM network - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Android Development

Lets say I have a Sprint TP2 that will be used on a GSM network (it's unlocked via htc-unlocks.com).
Will everything work correctly running Android on the TP2 (in terms of the GSM radio)?
If CDMA doesn't work, its not a concern.

This is something I'm interested as well. I will be using the TP2 in GSM mode overseas...

Well, i'm exactly the one who used Sprint TP2 on GSM……
According to me, it runs well except WIFI. GSM Network and GPRS and WCDMA are all perfect. The only thing you have to pay attention to is to turn the Network Mode to "GSM Only" in WinMo before booting into Android, otherwise there will be a great chance that the Android cannot find the signal of network thus driving you mad.
Hm……I'm from China and I had tested in the China Unicom network which is WCDMA and right now i am in France, so i have also tested the SFR network, which proves to be perfect. The ONLY Problem is by no means can i turn on WIFI in Android
Hope to be useful to you and finally, sorry for my English because i'm now learning French

I've also used the sprint touch pro2 overseas in europe. It works fine, everything seemed to work, although sometimes to get voice/data working i had to put in airplane mode in winmo before booting into android. Just something to keep in mind if you run into that.

Best Radio ROM for roaming?

My question is, when you are overseas using your local providers roaming options to still use your phone, should you use a radio that works best on the network in the country you are visiting or that works best on your home network?
I have tried 1.46.00.11 and 1.50.08.11 on my New Zealand Vodafone network and neither support incoming calls but other radio functionality works fine (also noted here). So I stick with good old trusty 1.38.00.11.
When I go to Japan next week I want this still to work so I am hesitant to put the "leading" radio in the poll on as I may not be able to receive calls.
I will be using SoftBank in Japan, but I will be receiving calls redirected from Vodafone. I'll take a couple of radio ROMS on my card to flash if need be while I'm over there, but I was curious if anyone knew exactly what the biggest influence is, your location and network, or the calling users location and network?
Hey Julz, off to Japan huh? Fascinating place, make sure you check out Akihabara if you are in Tokyo...
I was in Korea a month or so ago and could get my P3600 to connect to their 3G network (using the 1.38 radio), couldn't make any calls but that turned out to be a Vodafone problem. Seems that VFNZ don't have a roaming agreement for their 3G network...
So I'm guessing you should be ok with the 1.38 radio.
Only other place I've roamed with the P3600 so far has been Fiji, worked perfectly there with the 1.38 radio.
Thanks Ant
Yes, this will be visit number 4 and yes I love Akihabara!! Will see if I can pick up a dirt cheap 8GB MicroSDHC down the alleyways.
NZVF confirms their 3G agreements with a couple of Japanese carriers, so it sounds like I should be ok.
Just thought it was an interesting question to chuck into the mix regarding favourite Radio ROM's to see if people change their radio when travelling

no hsdpa/3g

this is a problem ive been trying to resolve with tmobile, to no avail.
basically the data network only seems to use gprs and not 3g or hsdpa, despite me being in an hsdpa area. my kaiser with another tmobile contract sim gets hsdpa speeds fine, as does the tp2 when its got the old sim in, but this new sim doesnt seem to allow it. it wont be a handset problem and its not a coverage problem, its as if its been disabled by tmobile. for the record both the contracts are identical. (the kaiser one has a few days left in it)
ive called and emailed tmobile frequently over the last week, but they dont seem to understand the problem and cant help. noone seems to have heard of hsdpa and the last phone call lasted over an hour, with the ending result being 'we dont know'
im aware that they might have to 'flick a switch' to enable it on my data plan, but cant quite communicate with them this.
anyone got any tips? could their be a particular number/email address i could use?
They probably indeed have to flick a switch. If all else fails, just request a new SIM from them saying this one broke or something.

I have the same problem but on Orange Romania. The THC is unlocked and on the TytnII the SIM has worked perfectly but in the new TP2 no HSDPA. With another SIM from Vodafone the HSDPA is working.

You're not the only one facing this issue i see! I have had a Tmobile contract for years on the TytnII and ALWAYS had the HSDPA working fine. I got the Vodafone touch pro 2 and now the best i get is GPRS or 3G. trying the settings>all setting> advanced tab> did not help either. I guess T-mobile can enable or disable this at will especially if they can detect the device type is not a Tmobile one...
Sorry for the lame question but how do I know what my connection is? My icon with the bars changes to "3G" when I use data but I noticed a friend's phone shows "H" instead. I already have enabled HSDPA in the connection settings but still get 3G everywhere and never seen H on my phone so far.

GSM & CDMA

I'm trying out a new TP2-CDMA from Telus (Canada) and this is by far the best system I could ever try in my case. I've always been a GSM user (since 1994) mostly because it gives you the latitude of using what ever device you want just by inserting your SIM card. so I got the Phone Inserted my Rogers SIM in it and it got me on the Rogers network right away I then activated the phone on the Telus network and it is also working fine... of course...
But the best thing is that I set it on "Global" network and it stays on GSM (Rogers), and when I get to an area where there is no GSM signal it switches by it self to the CDMA (Telus) network!!! this is amazing! NO MORE DEAD SPOTS! Of course you need to have two Service contract from two different service provider, but if you absolutely need to get service in areas where your current provider does not offer any, well it sure beats the hell out of having two different cellphone in your pocket... I have set my main cell number to transfer to the other on "No Answer after X # rings" and I get all my calls no mater what network I'm on!
The only down side to this TP2-CDMA Unit is that Telus got rid of a bunch of stuff that is in the TP2-GSM... like the GPS for instance... Well I guess you can't have it all...
Just thought I'd share my joy...
The GPS is working, actually it works pretty well.
rick#2,
You are right, the GPS works.
I was trying it with Google Maps and could not make it work because GM does not seem to be able to get the data connection on the GSM network to load the maps and I thought it did not have the GPS but it does and all other Maps SW works on both GSM and CDMA, except GM that does only work on the CDMA network on this particular device...
I've been using the GSM connection for the TP2 down in the states and I stay purely CDMA up here in Canada. I'd like to say that HSPA works on the GSM network but no dice... unfortunately... don't know why.
Hopefully the 850/1900MHz bands that are possibly physically present on our Telus TP2s can be made available somewhere down the line. It's too bad they aren't up and running now, since I'm headed down to Mexico in a week and they are all 850/1900 down there for their UMTS network.
Yeah..
I know what you mean
Perhaps this one can solve the issues....

The problems I (and others) have with the damn Omnia 7

Been having problems with my Omnia7 since beginning of the year and was hoping Mango with firmware would fix these issues.
This is how it turned out after update...
I can't upload anything to SkyDrive on 3G (I get "The Windows Live ID Service is unavailable at the moment"), if I turn on WiFi it works instantly so there is nothing wrong with my account.
I usually can't download apps from marketplace on 3G, i get "The Windows Live ID Service is unavailable at the moment", if I turn on WiFi it works instantly.
I usually can't post twitts to twitter, I get some connection error. Not sure if that works over WiFi.
I usually cant do statusupdates to the Windows Live feed, I get some connection error. Not sure if that works over WiFi.
Bing search usually doesnt work on 3G. "We cant connect to search at the moment" if I turn on WiFi it works instantly.
When I say usually, thats like 60-90% of the time maybe?
Some of these things actually worked better before the update.
I chat with more people from Sweden with Omnia 7 that are having exact same problems.
(We are also the same people thats been having serious call problems with dropped calls, robot voices and bad call quality. (We have a thread soon reaching 700 posts about that on Swedish Telia forum, started in february, thats how long we have been at it with this on our provider and Samsung, and still not fixed))
Samsung Omnia 7 is really unusable on some networks and by the looks of things Samsung doesnt know how to fix it.
Im just so damn sick of this ****.
It would be nice if Mods didnt move this thread so we can see if any other OEM have any similar problems, thank you.
I'm using an Omnia 7 in Singapore and have not faced the problems you mentioned. You may want to try Samsung's Network Profile tool and reselect your carrier to reset 3G settings.
Yes the Omnia 7 works just great on some networks, if we switch to Three the problems pretty much goes away. This would indicate that there is something wrong with Telia but they have also tested everything and there is no other phone having these problems.
Believe me we have tried everything, we have had our devices at Samsung Service Centers and they have installed "special" firmwares for us etc but nothing solves the issues.
No problems with my Omnia 7 in Australia. It does sound like a carrier issue, honestly. Does internet browsing using 3G work?
There is no point in saying you dont have the problems, we know there are lots of happy Omnia 7 users out there.
But the fact remains the phone doesnt work on some networks.
Here is the old list (taken from the Omnia7-forum) of carriers where users have reported the same issues.
A1 Telekom - Austria
Proximus - Belgium
Mobistar - Belgium
Base - Belgium
Singtel - Singapore
T-mobile - Netherlands
Virgin Mobile - France
Bouygues - France
T-mobile - Germany
T-Mobile - US
Vodafone - Italy
Telenor - Norway
ERA - Poland
Simobil - Slovenia
Keep in mind the list is 6 months old so things might have changed in some places...
It would be interesting to know if VoodooKing is on Singtel?
Change to different carrier? If Telia sucks so bad wouldn't it be logical to change to something else?

Its my employer that uses Telia, I cant change it.
And its not Telia that sucks, telia has the best coverage in Sweden bar none, so its Samsung that sucks and as soon as Nokia delivers and my employer gives me green light to get a new phone this piece of **** goes straight into the wall.
it sucks to hear that your omnia 7 is experiencing these terrible bugs
mine's working perfectly though. omnia 7, not branded, philippines
Mine has the problem of not getting a data connection when I turn it on/off.
I have to end up turning the entire phone off, then back on with data on. That's the only way it'll work 100% of the time.
It does however work at times, but very rarely.
There is a rumour going that Samsung will release a fix for these issues in October.
I'l believe it when I see it though, seeing that we have been complaining to them since february. But maybe the Mango release has given them new energy or whatever?
Crossing fingers here.
I'm having the exact same issues with my Omnia 7 since switching to Telia from Three a few weeks ago.
This might sound absurd and in wrong thread but...
I seem to face same issues with HTC Titan on Giffgaff (uses O2 in the UK).
Could it be the way OS is laid on phones?
I have an omnia7 and a hd7
with the hd7 I don't have any problems with 02 DE
with the omnia7 3g suckes big time , internet not working and MP downloads are working so I know I have 3g but still if I try to IE It don't work

I have the same devices but I don´t have any problems with T-Mobile Germany.
BTW I thought you have sent your HD7 to our all Heathcliff74 ?
Some weeks ago I offered him to send my HD7 via mail too but he didn´t accept my offer because of the risk that the device could get broken for some reasons.
Same issues here, TMobile NL.
Problems keeping/establishing WiFi connection and problems keeping 3G connection. Sometimes have to reset to make it work or airplane mode on/off otherwise full 3g+ bars but no Internet...
Here in holland the 3g coverage is nearly perfect (delft/den haag) and I barely have death spots. Mago improved it, but did not fix it. After a while the device just gets cut off the network. And wifi disables when locked, when unlocking it struggles to reestablish.
The only problem I'm facing is that sometimes sound disappears during phonecalls while the connection
is still in place. I'm on vodafone nl, but this problem is a well known problem with the omnia 7. I used to
have HTC trophy and never experienced this problem. For me this was the last Samsung phone, as with the
last Samsung phones/tabs I had, I experienced nothing but problems and s##t support.

you might want to consider using the diagnosis app to set your connection to a particular band
*#2263# under the diagnosis application will bring up the band selection menu
I used to have the problem of the phone always taking a longer time to get data connection mode. But that was fixed after just a simple move of limiting what the bands the phone would search for to have data connection.

I have never had any issues, I'm using Telia too. Works fine here.

Thanks for this, but Im not able to select 900/1800/2100 which is what I need since our 3g is on 2100 (Netherlands) so if I select 900/1800 ill lose 3g... which is not worth it of course

Japan Docomo Note 2 No reception No service

Got a Japan version note 2 SC-02e, after flashing MIUI rom, everything works fine except the phone function. There is no data, no signal, no reception whatsoever. I tried to manually search the service operator, but it turns out nothing. I suspect it may be a problem caused by its unique band. I appreciated any fix suggestion.
you might have accidentally unknowingly regretfully ****ed up your imei i.e. ****ed phone features.
before regretting try restoring nand/stock firmware etc.
if you made a backup of your efs then there shouldn't be much to worry.
if not and restoring stock doesn't work, then go to a service center and convince them that you are a innocent cute little guy whose phone was ****ed up in the morning.
Good Luck
Most common mistake for most people or noobs is that they did not know what they are
doing with their devices. Most probably you have screwed your EFS folder.
Read here: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/backup-and-restore-your-efs-folder-on-samsung-devices/
AND NOW
you have to do it the hard way.
Read here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264021
I hope this isn't too late to help you but are you running the SC-02E in Japan, and if so are you using Docomo or are you trying to use it on a different network?
I've experienced similar problems in the past and in my case the cause there were two separate causes. First of all Docomo Xi phones sometimes have issues when trying to connect to a non-LTE network (such as with B-mobile or softbank) yet often have had the menu options for turning off LTE removed. I had a similar issue when I used my SC-06D with a 3G B-mobile sim (which uses the same 3G network as Docomo) and at first I had the issue of not getting any connection. However after I used a 3rd party app to disable LTE (LTEOnOff) I was able to connect without any issues.
The other cause may be as you said from the unique bandwidths. Japan's LTE network is different from other countries, and traditionally the only common 3G bandwidth used in Japan that is used in other countries often is the 2100mhz one (although Softbank did recently implement 900). Therefore if you managed to flash a ROM for one of the overseas N7105's then it's quite possible your phone is having trouble due to the LTE bandwidths. You could try disabling LTE (as above) and then seeing if your phone connects via the 2100 bandwidth. If that works then then you will probably need to try flashing a Japanese radio (from the SC-02E) to get it to work. This is something that I am trying to get working myself.
For the record Docomo's network runs on 2100/1700/800 for 3G (although 1700 seems to be rarely used) and 2100/1500 and possibly 850 for LTE. Softbank has 2100/900 for 3G and 2100 for LTE. AU runs on CDMA and CDMA2000 technology and thus their network isn't compatible with Docomo's phones.
