Whts the difference in these 3 - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

whts the difference between sense, manila, & touch flow 3d
sorry if this question is stupid,

The difference between Sense and Manilla are nothing, they are both the same. TF3D is like Sense but its a older software developed in the OEM Windows Mobilw 6.1. Most of Windows 6.5 are Sense 2.1. Hope it helps.

thn what is tf3d?

"Manila" is the code name HTC has been using for it's shell interface for a while now. The first versions of Manila were referred to as TF3D (TouchFLO3D), up through TF3D 2.1. Then, the next upgrade to Manila was called "Sense", and was intended to be somewhat standardized across WM and Android.
There's a few stock ROM's, and a couple of custom ones, that have WM 6.1 and TF3D with it...but all carriers now have an upgrade to 6.5 and at least Sense 2.1, and there's tons of custom ROMs with those and higher versions.

Which version of Manila is this? Help needed

Dear All,
I just installed the 6.5 upgrade available in Singpaore and I dont get to see the Manila version in the Settings Tab as it was in 6.1. When I go to Today settings, the items list says 'HTC Sense' not Touch Flo.
So is it Manila 2.1 or which version is this? I want to have the transparent weather clock and trying to search a compatible one
ROM: 1.86.707.4(67102) WWE
Radio: 4.49.25.17.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Normally there is an "About" entry at the bottom of the TF3D Settings tab -- is this what you're saying is now missing?
I have the AT&T Tilt 2 w/ stock ROM, i.e. WM 6.5, and the About is on the TF3D settings tab.
Same here, only Dutch ;-)
Hi all, I also did an update to WM 6.5, only the Dutch one (from T-mobile).
I also have Sense instead of TF3D now and would like to see the weather on my Today screen.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them
ROM 1.85.114.1 (65933) NLD
Radio 4.49.25.05
Would we be able to use this for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556484 ?
I believe it is Sense 2.1 that you have. Then there is Sense 2.5 that HTC is shipping with their Leo.
Sense is the new name for TouchFLO.
Weather on Today with Seense 2.1?
Seems possible: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4887991
But how?

Thank you. I too think it is 2.1, but I dont see it in the About in the Setting tab and thats the reason I checked. But now I have only the copyright information which doesnt say the version of the Manila...so bad.
The reason is I see quite a few good mods available with 2.5 and wanted to check if it is suitable for my ROM...it seems I should use one of the cooked ROMs

htc diamond official 6.5 rom??

htc diamond official 6.5 rom??
Never.....
Why
Why do you say never?
Htc didn't make rom with windows 6.5 ?
Touch Diamond is out of date, winmo 6.5 is meant for more current and faster devices.

HTCTD runs 6.5 slowly and will be too slow to run 7.0 for sure.
Nope, they're only making it for the Diamond2. Unforuntately the Diamond was designed by HTC to work well (pfft) with Windows Mobile 6.1, so HTC wouldn't want people complaining of 6.5's problems unless hardware is customized exclusively for the operating system.

No, diamond can run well 6.5 (at least in my case). 6.1 provides poor touch sense (tried)
higher wm, not sure

I agree, my Diamond is more useable with WM6.5. Because the touch sense of screen is better and items of ui is more like for touch ui device.
And the WM6.5 is running ok in diamond without htc today plugins.
there 's no official 6.5 rom on the diamond

If you look at memory consumption on 6.5 with SENSE, it is around 80%. HTC wouldn't want people to only be able to run 2 programs at a time, so they don't bother with it.

Any thread # for a good 6.5 cooked rom for Diamond (not Diamond2)? All I find is old (as of beginning of 2009)

Ok, explain this to me

Maybe I'm missing something, but I haven't been quite sure what the difference between 25xxx, 23xxx and 21xxx ROMs are.
Anyone care to elaborate?
I believe it's based on your current OS. 21xx would be WM 6.5, 23xx would be WM 6.5.3, and I'm not sure what 25xx is.
Don't quote me though, I may be wrong.
I think they are all windows 6.5.8 the 2**** is the manilla version
23*** is manilla 2.5 (with the 3 shortcuts on the home page)
21*** is manilla 2.1 (without)
2.1 seems to be a bit more stable than 2.5 and have older apps

I'm not sure about that. I'm running 21895 and have the 3 shortcuts plus weather integrated with the home screen.
For example, NRG has multiple 2.5 ROM's. One is 21xxx the other is 23xxx. I believe you're correct in describing the different versions of manilla though.

What verson of Sense

I have a T-Mobile HTC TP2. What version of Sense do I have and how can I tell? I am confused also about the difference between Sense, Touch Flow 3d, and how they interact with WM. Assume that they are both from HTC and maybe Sense is the phone software and Touch FLow 3D is the fancy today screen?
Sense and touchflo3d and tf3d and manila are all the same thing. The names have come from different locations over the years. Sense is the new name for any version 2.5 and up I believe.
It is software that runs in windows mobile. It takes over the visual interaction of the phone with the user. It is a more convenient interface than the standards windows mobile home screen. Most importantly it is a customized piece of software that HTC uses to make its windows mobile offering different from other manufacturers. Windows mobile is very much right under the surface, and is not very hard to get to. Just pushing the on screen windows logo will get you there.
The phone would be capable of doing all the same things without the sense interface. The experience would be different. In many cases you would need additional programs to replicate the functions that sense/touchflo roll up into 1 consistent interface.
That all said there are some who hate it, and flash to get rid of it as soon as they get their phone. To each their own. The best part of windows mobile is that you have choices.

boufa pretty much summed it all up there...Sense/TF3D/Manila are all referring to the shell interface that HTC built on top of plain 'ol WM. Manila is the name HTC uses for all of them, TF3D and Sense are just versions (kinda like generations) of Manila. The first Sense version was 2.0 technically, but you'll more often see 2.1 and 2.5. TF3D's last version was 2.1, which existed and was distributed at the same time as Sense 2.1 (not on the same model devices though lol)
You're running a stock ROM from Tmobile, right? And, have you upgraded the ROM at all since you bought the phone?

You probably have 6.1 if you are using stock Jan 2010 firmware. The way to tell between 2.1 and 2.5 is that 2.5 has shortcut icons below the clock; 2.1 does not.

Yeah, the odds are you have winmo 6.5, with Sense 2.1......unless you bought the phone before Jan or so, and never upgraded winmo after you bought it. In that case, you have winmo 6.1, with TF3D 2.1 (a manila version before sense)
Bought the HTC TP2 about one month ago. WM 6.1 Prof. I have not upgraded it to 6.5. Plan on doing it but I have loaded so much software in the last month, it will take me a weekend to put it all back on.

Gotcha, yes then what you have on there is TouchFLO3D (TF3D) 2.1, the last version of manila before sense. It looks very much like sense 2.1 in a lot of ways, but there are key differences going on behind the scenes that cause very few visual tweaks and adjustments to be compatible with both versions... but the good news is that pretty much any apps or tweaks you find on this site that say they apply to WM6.1/TF3D 2.1 should also work ok on your phone, even if they're for a different HTC model (the ones that don't will usually say so). There's less and less new TF3D stuff available in the TP2 forums now that every model has a 6.5 upgrade avialable, so you may find more stuff looking in the general windows area of the forums. But, keep an eye here too...beyond sense modifications there's still a ton of great stuff (apps, etc) that you can use on WM 6.1
when apply the t-mobile i upgrade to WM 6.5, will I get Manila, Sense 2.5?

Nope, 2.1 It still gives you a lot more options than TF3D, but it's nowhere near as versatile as 2.5.
Now, just be prepared for the fact that as you move up in manila versions (TF3D-sense 2.1-sense 2.5), you're likely to notice the phone slow down more. Each version is more "complex" than the last, and therefore more taxing on system resources.
so how do you get sense 2.5 with the tp2, or is that only for the hd2?
Install a custom ROM. If you've even slightly competent and are capable of following instructions carefully, there is basically no risk in installing a custom ROM. You can even revert back to the default ROM if you choose to later on. I don't think you can get rid of HardSPL, unfortunately, but I'm not sure. If you can't then I'm sure you'd probably void your warranty with a custom ROM should the phone encounter some unrelated hardware error later on.

it will update you to the .57 radio (the one you asked about in the other thread), and winmo 6.5 and sense 2.1 (you have TF3D 2.1 right now). I noticed a improvement with that radio when I did the upgrade, not huge but noticible...connection stability got better, battery life stayed about the same.
Setting -> System -> TouchFLO -> About
It says "TouchFLO for Pocket PC Version 3.0 (Build 1914.3222).
Where would I see 2.1?

I don't recall exactly where on there (if anywhere) you'll actually see "2.1" listed, but that is the last version of TF3D produced before HTC switched it all to sense, and it's the only version that shipped with T-Mobile's WM 6.1
cookie's for TP2?
i no longer have a TP2, but have related question:
is there a version of Cookie's Home Tab for sense2.1 on the TP2? or any equivalent cabs that would add functionality and quicklinks to the home tab? preferably any additions that does not involve cooked roms?

No, that program requires Sense 2.5.
If you don't have a TP2, why do you ask? Also, what are you using now?

Currently using epix and HD2.
Why did i ask? I was going to update the rom for a friend's tp2, but since both versions had tf3d2.1, decided it was not worth it. Besides, the sense2.5 cab at 80MB is too much for the tp2, so not going that route. And no way am I flashing a custom rom on somebody else's phone.
back on topic, if a current tp2 owner is satisfied with the radio and is not using tf3d, the is really no point in updating to wm6.5.
I am doing it in hopes of getting a better radio.
