I was not the only user having this problem. There was actually a bounty set for a fix, but I havent seen one yet. Flashed Energy Rom Sense 2.5 and 2.1, provisioning didn work, and neither did cab install for correct key layout. Numbers still across the top row, and most symbols still incorrectly mapped. Seems to be first tilt configuration and nothing will change it back.
The strange thing in my case was before I ever flashed ANYTHING SPL, ROM radio...anything...,(bone stock) my HW keyboard would auto remap to these settings out of nowhere. Two different devices had this problem, i took the first one back, and this one being the second. a soft reset would set configuration back to stock before flash, but now even the cabs available will not change anything. I got a $20 for a .cab fix or a detailed xplnation of how to fix this, and have the entire HW keyboard mapped in english and to at&t tilt 2 configuration that will work on this device
Please Forgive the rant in the prior post concerning this issue, as this has become quite frustrating lol, and I have owned every HTC device at&t has sold and loved em all, but had to hunt fixes for every single one. Ive learned a lot in the process, but sometimes time is limited to be able to constantly search for what would seem to be a simple fix. If you will notice, for as long as long as I have been a member of this great community, I have made very few posts, and asked few questions on my different devices ...I read searched and read some more. I had xda google search as my homepage for a loooong time, help on this issuue would be greatly appreciated!!!
What cab did you use? There's a few floating around. I've tried dozens of roms and only seen this issue with one or two ROMs (both 2.5 roms) but went away after a hard reset. Are you hard resetting your device after flash?

1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the Rhodium Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to RHODIMG.nbh
4. Copy the RHODIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.

I thought it odd not to have to do a hard reset as left out in tutorial. I should have done it out of habit from flashing kaiser, and fuze, but no. I did not hard reset. I will try a new flash and do the reset this time. Hopefully thats all thats the problem! thank you very much, and cross your fingers for me lol. If it works I will def keep my word on 20!

Just to help troubleshoot after you hard reset just install whichever keyboard cab you're using, soft reset, and test it out before installing anything or syncing.
thank you thank you thank you!
I cant believe thats all it was! Even more so I cant believe I didn even try the H R after flash. I never once failed to do this when flashing any other device, I guess b/c it was in the directions for noobs to do so in other forums, lol may ought to suggest adding it to the dir for flashing tp2 lol!
THANK YOU BIGTIME, once again! I had become frustrated after tryin multi cabs and reading where it worked for everyone else. all i did was re flashed, h-reset. cab was in uc folder, but that didn work, ended up using att provisioning provided by NRG, and there she was...working like a charm again!
Glad to hear it worked! Thanks for following up to, you're the first person with this issue I've tried helping that actually posted a followup.

Howdy all... This is a Great Forum, I have really enjoyed it, and I thank all who have contributed their hard work making ROMs for HTC's.
I am not a Programmer, Just a Physician.... so I have a question.
I like so many others have flashed numerous ROMS to my 8525 searching for a stable, fast, dependable operating system for my phone.
Now that I have flashed so many ROM's, I think my phone is really confused. With each new ROM, it starts out fine, then the phone turns schizophrenic.... Things flash on and off and I can not control them. Sometimes the screen just locks up and even with a hard rebooting and pulling the battery... nothing cures it.
My question.... Is there a way to purge the system completely, start fresh? Like formating a hard drive to start fresh? I realiize the HTC doesnt have a hard drive, so that is out of the question. But is there a way to do the same so that the next ROM I flash will be somewhat stable?
Any help will be most appreciated.
Thanks to all Developers that are the Doctors to HTC's the same way that Physicians are to humans.

Well if it gets too confused make sure you get a shipped ROM handy at hand and don't forget to follow the doctor's orders.
Thanks
I would like to thank you for your quick response. I have downloaded the ATT ROM and the correct Radio as well as the instructions.
I will begin lifesaving techniques to my HTC and post the results.

Hi Zocster and fellow forum members,
Well I followed your instructions to the letter, only to discover that some of the tools do not work on a laptop that has Vista. So after fighting with that all day, I just let it rest a while and will tackle it again tomorrow.
Oh one question... what is the thing in the upper right corner of the phone, it has 3 diagonal liines and a triangle, when it opens it shows what programs are running. Is there a way to turn that option off? Also what can cause the touch screen to work some times and not work at other times? It is really frustratiing..
Any advise will be most appreciated.
Thanks
Doc
firstly to the point of saying you have problems flashing in vista, download sp1 install it and all other updates. Then download the latest version of WMDC(windows mobile device center) and you shouldnt have any problems, i have vista and have no trouble whatsoever flashing in vista.
The thing with the the 3 diagona lines and triangle that you mention is a task manager to kill programs that are running to allow you to free memory on the phone and allow it to run faster. Depending on what rom you flashed it will either be in add /remove programs or hard coded into the rom. If its in add/remove it will be call htc task manager just remove it. If its cooked into the rom the only way of removing it is to flash another rom. I cant see that being part of your problem though.
The touch screen problem might not be a screen problem per sa, your device maybe just running slow and the phone freezes temporarily to allow to finish what it is doing? have you tried or even realised what the page pool size is of the roms you are flashing? try flashing one with a 8mb page pool and see if that runs better. There is a tool to change page pool size floating about on here
I would though flash a stock(operator) rom first though then flash another rom. Try pda corners latest rom thats pretty fast, i am not saying its the best ,but it is quick and i like it

well doc, as you want to turn this option off, the program is usually called "Task Manager" or "HTC Task Manager" and you can find it in "Settings -> [Tab]System ->Task Manager " and you can switch it off by going to the [Tab]Button and to un-tick the option "Enable Quick menu on Today screen".
another way to go to its settings is by clicking on it and then clicking on the "wrench" symbol.
concerning Vista issues, I never had a problem with it as i was using Vista before publishing SP1 and I did the SuperCID, HardSPL and the first upgrades under Vista... anyways, on Hermes wiki pages you can check solution#24 of Hermes Upgrade FAQ
good luck
Hi i was wondering if there was anyone out there who was kind enough to explain in detail how to install this Rom because by the looks of the pictures and the reviews, it is a great Rom. OH and if there is an answer to this already, please direct me to it because i have searched for hours and cannot find anything.
Thanks in advance
How far is your knowledge when it comes to custom ROMs? Do you have your phone unlocked?
If your phone isn't unlocked, go here:http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20370
I could use a little help to. My phone is unlocked and I have flashed another rom before but when I download the rom file I can't do anything with it. I seem to remember using another program to handle the rom file before flashing but I have looked and looked and have come up empty handed. Someone pointing in the right direction would be great.
Basically I am stuck between getting the file on the computer and starting to flash. I can get my phone to the color screen and all.
Terms you should know before-hand, haha:
-The color RGB color screen is called the Bootloader mode (you get to it by holding the power button + camera button, and sticking you stylus in the slot at the bottom of you phone to reset.)
-Hard-reseting: Flashing the phone to default state of the flashed ROM. (Hold talk key + end call key, and sticking you stylus in the slot at the bottom of you phone to reset.)
-Soft-reseting: Simply restarting your phone. (Sticking you stylus in the slot at the bottom of you phone to reset.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
0. Unlock Phone. (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20370)
1. Go in to Boot-loader mode. (Text towards the bottom of the screen
should read "Serial" if you phone isn't connected to the PC.)
2. Connect phone to PC. ("Serial" text should change to "USB")
3. Extract the files from .rar file you download. (Use Winrar.)
4. Run ROMUpdateUtility.exe and follow the on screen instructions.
- Your phone will start showing a progress bar when the flashing starts.
- Once done, the phone will restart. (Should reset and windows should boot, but still do step 5.)
5. Hard-reset the phone.
6. Dance in place.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
*pants* Hope that helps!
Stickfigure, thanks a bunch for your summary of the ROM loading process! My Sprint Touch has been giving me lots of problems (freezing on incoming calls, data connection stops working randomly, phone not wanting to get out of roam and back into EV mode, and many many more). Needless to say, it is frustrating and I want to throw it at a wall. I'm sure my reset button is going to fail since I've poked it so many times.
Anyways, I've been wanting to install a custom ROM and finally have the chance during my spring break from classes, but I wasn't quite sure how to do it. Your post definitely helps.
One more question...is the process basically the same if I want to install a different custom ROM? If you know of any other tutorial or noob info pages that might help me I'd appreciate it too.
Thanks again!
Stickfigure, thanks for the instructions. Winrar was the piece that I was missing. Once I installed that I had the new rom installed the the phone was working fine in a bout 15 minutes.

There are some great tutorials out there for beginners, one of the best of which is Dharvey's "UPDATED- CONSOLIDATED Rev A./GPS TUTORIAL" found on PPCGeeks; it is no longer available for some reason, but you may be able to find a repost somewhere.
Thanx
Thankx every one who contributed to this thread because it really helped.
Hey there,
After lots of problems with my P3300 (see this thread), I've decided to flash it to see if that helps. I'm not too bothered about getting the GSM working again as I have another phone, but I'd like to be able to run all apps again.
So... I'd like some advice please.
What would be the best ROM for me to use if I just want to use the phone as a GPS device, portable wifi web browser and notepad?
Basically something pretty stripped down with as good battery life as possible.
Is there any advantage with going for WM6 over WM5?
Bear in mind I've never done this before and am currently reading up on all of it.
From what I've read so far I'll have to do the CID unlock first (currently have WM5 in french installed and would like an english ROM)? I think it may be unlocked already but am not sure. Is there a way to check? Do I risk anything if I run USPL even though the phone is already unlocked?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
You can check if your phone is CID unlocked if the SPL number which comes up while booting during the big white HTC screen says 1.11.0000. If it says anything other than that then it's not unlocked.
Best stripped rom for me is Sheen's clean base version 3. Check it out, it's on the first page of the thread.
alternatively, if u want fast and stripped, go for yues extraclean (see my signature)
greetz
ferfecir Clean
This is the best clean rom which is a modified version of Yues clean with 30mb free ram.

Pagepool 4 MB
RAM 32 MB
ROM 69 MB
Thanks for the replies. My SPL says 1.12.0000 so I guess I need to do the CID unlock.
Ferfecir Build 20931 looks like the most promising from those.
Can anyone please point me to a good tutorial for flashing the ROM via activesync? I'd rather not have to format the memory card if I can avoid it and my soft reset button is broken. (I have serached but had no luck)
Thanks!
download uspl from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311403
and any rom you want...
unpack the uspl
plug the cable in the device and establish a usb connection
run the "start_uspl.exe" be patient...after being prompted to click some "next buttons" follow the procedure...and i mean it...follow the procedure...that with 50% battery,no programs running on the pc,no unplugging the cable and so on...
and you will have the uspl flashed
go to boot loader...The bootloader is invoked by pressing down the Power and Voicedialer buttons simultaneously, and using the stylus at the same time to press the RESET button at the left side. Continue pressing the two buttons for a few seconds after pressing and releasing the reset button until the bootloader screen appears.
if uspl says 1.11.000 then you are good to go
now you can flash any rom (cooked for artemis) and any artemis radio (i recommend you the 3.34.90.) onto your artemis
simply download, extract, run the rom update utility (RUU) ,follow the procedure and watch the show...
if you ever get an error during flash or anywhere else in the rom update utility...refer to this page and troubleshoot your troubles http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=RUU_Errors
if you get an error saying invalid file size or something like that (you will get it if you try eg this rom..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=465291)
go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521406 download the file and flash it if it is an ordinary rom...just run the RUU
afterwards just check it in the bootloader if it says 1.11.cmon it is ok....and you will be able to flash virtually any rom cooked for artemis onto yours
i must be damn crazy to post this thing...because it is all there in the wiki and the forum stickies, believe it or not
Thank you very much for the detailed instructions.
Just two more questions!
My reset button is broken. Can I just turn the phone off and back on to check if I have 1.11.0000 instead of using the bootloader?
And the RUU is this one? http://code.google.com/p/htc-flasher/downloads/list (only file I have for the new Ferfecir ROM is a .nbh, is that all I need?)
Thanks again.
this is a very open-ended question.
Everyone on here will have their own favourite rom....if there was 1 definate fits-all "best" rom ...everyone would be using it..but there isnt and we are all using the rom that suits us best
some people want their phone to be more like an iPod and so the multimedia aspect is a priority along with decent graphics and animated menus
some people want the PDA functionality most so they want a really stripped-down fast rom that is reliable and handles email well
everyone wants to use it their own way....thats why this site exists.
The guys who make these ROMS are the guys who say "this is good, but i want it to be more like THIS."
Follow farukb's (excellent) instructions....unlock your device properly....if you get any problems, search for the answer before asking for help....chances are hundreds of people will have had the same problem and hundreds of people will have already given the answer...and then ....just look around the site. See which roms are available that fit YOUR needs, and flash it....if you dont like it, try another.
I'm trying 6.5 roms at the moment and love it....i've flashed it probably once a week with a new ROM each time a new version is released and have seen the OS evolve....right now i'd say PDhee's Mega 6.5 M2D rom is the best of the bunch providing you're not planning on installing LOTS of exra programs.
that's the beauty of these things, if you dont like the ROM, just try another. Sometimes the ROM won't work quite right (especially if flashing ROMs between different cooks) so just try flashing it again to make sure it resets everythin correctly. If it's still not right, try a different ROM.

yeah, unfortunately (and it seems to have increased over the last year or so) nost people on here are noobs who can't be bothered to read through some threads or use the search and we just get the same questions asked constantly.
I dont minds helping people....providing they've looked for the answer themselves first.
every time a new rom is released there will be people asking what error 260 or 270 means?, do they need to USPL? etc etc
it's easier to ask someone else to take time out of their day to aswer your question than just type "error 260" into the search box and find out for yourself. They dont consider that people are having to answer these questions 10 times a week, in their own time, for no thanks, just to have the same question asked the next day. Purely becuase they couldn't be bothered to see if anyone else has asked that question before.
sorry...rant over....i love you all

no
you need to use the reset button (stick the stylus in the reset hole) .
Reset is like turning your computer off and on again
Power button is like turning the monitor off....it doesnt stop programs running and it doesnt properly reboot the device.
Your only alternative is taking the batter out i think (just like pulling the plug out will also reboot your computer).
If you havent already run USPL, then you probably WILL need to do it.
i dont know the specific ROM you're talking about, but just an NBH file will NOT work. You need the EXE file to run it.
Just download any suitable ROM off this site and it will have the whole package....if you're downloading from another site you'll have to ak that other site for help
my reset button doesn't work. i took the phone apart to change the touchscreen and must have misaligned something when putting it back together. sticking the stylus in the hole doesn't do anything anymore. will take the battery out instead, thanks.
regarding the rom, it is one i downloaded from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=531972&highlight=ferfecir
the rar file downloaded from 4share (http://www.4shared.com/file/112067347/72728603/ARTEIMG-Ferfecir_-_20931_en_gncel_hali.html) only contains the nbh, no exe.
and for the record, i've spent all afternoon/evening researching this, searching this forum and the wiki etc! i appreciate it's annoying answering the same noob questions over and over again but i thought my thread was specific enough to warrant it and am grateful for all the replies.

...yeah, and if you read ferfercirs description fully, you will come past "sd-card-flashing" which is the way to flash the *.nbh -part of your rom in a way without needing an activesync connecton
greetz
i did read that bit
but as mentioned a couple of times in this thread already, my reset button is not operational so i cannot use bootloader (afaik). so i assumed there was another way.
but i guess i'll find a rom that comes an an exe and save myself some trouble
no need to keep searching,
u can simple take the provided *.nbh file that came without an exe, rename it to ruu_signed.nbh, exchange the existing RUU from a complete installer-routine and off u go, provided u have used uspl first
greetz
ok thank you once again, i'll try it tonight.
one final question! do i need to have a sim card inserted while running USPL or does it not matter?
It is recommended to remove both your SIM card and your MicroSD card during any type of flashing, whether it be USPL or ROM. Even my reset button is not working anymore, my phone got dropped in water and I had to give it for repairs. After motherboard change they assembled it slightly wrong I guess, and it doesn't work. But I can still get into bootloader by just pressing the Voice record and power buttons together for 10 seconds. Try that.
Secondly, I hate to be plugging myself here, but I have just cooked a clean 6.1 ROM myself, with the latest build of 6.1 that is 21054. you might want to check that out, it comes with the full package and not just the nbh
here it is - (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551728)

ok i need help again sorry! i tried this but i got an error after 5% saying the .nbh was an invalid size
i used the ROMUpdateUtility.exe from Arte_WM65_23009_M2D_Mega_beta1 ROM (i removed Arte_WM65_23009_Mega_b1.nbh from the folder and replaced it with Ferfecir's .nbh which I had renamed to ruu_signed.nbh)
What did I do wrong?
I ended up flashing with Arte_WM65_23009_Mega_b1.nbh and it worked great but that ROM is too much for me and I want Ferfecir's simpler one.
Thanks
You need to flash the newer USPL which allows nbh files of a smaller size to be flashed.

You should post this in the NRG ROM thread, or even better the "Flashing ROM for NOOBs", you will get more support there. Also, list your current ROM. If you have hard SPL then all you need to do is download the NRG ROM, extract it from the 7-zip archive, and put both the files in a folder. Connect your phone via activesync, and then execute the custom RRU exe program. I have flashed several times.
You don't say what errors you are getting - people need as much information as possible.

thanks but the page you sent me would be one of those text files, explanations, etc that I already read a million times and isn't specific enough for me
one of the main problems is that when documents explain unzipping, unraring, etc, MOST (not always) of the time they never state specifically to where it must be unzipped/unrarred: to the computer desktop? a specific folder in the phone's memory? the sd card?
however, i did hard spl my phone, when i enter bootloader mode it does show the olinix thing on it, so is this the rom number i need to list?? does it have anything to do with rom?
@ stevedebi, isn't the rom number i listed the one that's needed? what other info is needed as i don't think there is anymore info i can get off my phone that i didn't list, but being a noob please explain away so i can get this straight

no offense...but what does this mean?
For example, I go to NRGZ28's ROM page. I've already hard spl-ed my phone. Check.
Next, I unzip (just 5minutes ago) the 7z file that comes with the customruu.exe and try to set it up on my phone. Fail.
The attachment is what I see every time without fail. No progress beyond this point...help?
THANKS - PROBLEM SOLVED ON THE FLASHING ROM PAGE!!! THANKS A MILLION TO STEVIEWEVIE!!!!

Since you took the time to post your problem on THIS forum, please respond with WHAT you actually did to fix your issue. It is kinda not cool to get everyone to help you, then when you solve your issue, just say problem solved and not say what you did. No offense, not bashing you, just let everyone else know what worked to fix your issue.

PROBLEM SOLVED! SOLUTION BELOW:
i guess i never actually extracted the folder like i thought i had already done - PLUS i also moved to a separate folder to keep it apart from ALL other rom's i was trying to flash
Hi all, for all the people like me who do not have the patience or knowledge do adventure themselves in the mitty thread.
This program already exists for X1, HD2, TP2 (for what I know) and I have tested it and it works.
After some search on this forum I have talked to agent_47, who was kind enough to make a task29 program for our HTC Diamonds (GSM version).
Agent_47 or me do not take any responsibility for ay damage done to your device. Use it at your own risk, and only after you have HSPL already installed on your device.
Do not know what a HSPL is, check here:

now we can mtty our "HTC Diamond" without having the need of MTTY and its drivers
INSTRUCTIONS:
- download and unzip
- run then ROMUpdateUtility.exe and wait for it to finish.....
- device will reboot but will neva go past the bootscreen coz there is no OS to boot
- take our batti and then flash a rom using mSD card or by taking device into bootloader and using customRUU to load ur favorite ROM
DOWNLOAD:

WHATS TASK29\MTTY
when u flash a rom, you are copying files onto the internal memory (like duh!) but if u repeatadly flash different roms, sometimes files from older version stays behind as when u flash a rom, you just copy and sometimes overwrite files without deleting the older ones. hence at times these older files may create bugs\instability. hardrest donot always fix it.so we use MTTY
but the thing is, mtty is and can be hard to use for new users. ... for me,, i was having the worst time installin the drivers needed to run mtty on win7 x64. so u i made this tool for me and for all

and I would add to agent_47, as he adapted this tool for the HTC Diamond
Did anyone tried this?
What's the verdict?
mmm. interesting.
Thanks for the share and all your hard work but this is actually harder than mitty for me and i am a windows 7 user also

I do not understand how this is possible, I am using Vista and this is as easy as flashing a ROM with a computer. You just connect the device via USB to the Diamond, let active sync finish. Then you just need to run "ROMUpdateUtility.exe" and follow the instructions.
I have tested this, and I can confirm this is working for the European HTC Diamond (bought in Portugal).
This was not made by me, but I do think that more people will benefit with this program. Hopefully people will overcome the initial resistance to change.
Great idea!
I used to MTTY through VMWare Windows XP x86 within my host Windows 7 x64. It was a pain in the ass to get though but it always worked for me. This is a great time saver!
Regards to both of you Johev and agent_47!
Willing to test on my next flash.
Best regards,
Cina.

What do you mean? take out battery?
Gonna try this with my next flash
Yeah, the sentence is a bit odd to me to
i asume it means take out battery but still..
i'm not gonna try it until i know it for sure!
--edit--
i couldn't help it and used it anyway..
i assumed "take our batti" means take out battery cuz it worked for me!
my diamond was clean (i guess) and i'm now enjoying a new rom!
Thanx guys!!
I would never post something that I did not test first.
I am glad that you liked it, and I really think it is much simpler then the mitty thread.
Good luck flashing.

I LOVE THIS TOOL
this isn't good for my ORD.. i'm flashing the hell out of my diamond now!
Getting a HD2 in about a month.. can't wait for it ;D
I tried it, but I only get the start screen with "Touch diamond", no bootloader.
But I´ve installed HARDSPL Olinex, because I already flashed other ROM´s.
How can I solve this problem?
What about battery? When I have to get it out, when I can put it in again...?
fibula
to get into bootloader you have to reset your device while holding the volume down button!
then you will get the tri-color screen,
connect your diamond to your pc and flash a rom with a RUU!

To get into bootloader with my diamond:
1) Turn Diamond off, take out battery for 5 seconds.
2) Put battery back inside, and press and hold the centre button (circle) and turn ON the device (hold both buttons) until you see a 3 colour screen
If step 2 does not work, try pressing holding volume down while turning the device on (hold the ON button too). Remember to take out the battery before you do this.
Hope this helps.
Hi!
Does this work by simply copying any ROM's nbh file (instead of radio*.nbg) to folder and executing ROMUpdateUtility.exe? Will it MTTY before flashing the ROM?
Currently I'm trying this method out. It is around at 50% of flashing progress.
I'll report back.
Cina.
thanks a ton dude.... magnificent work...
Now if there were only a way to do it directly from Internal Storage, without RUU...
It does not work the way I described. It hangs on HTC Diamond black boot screen and no red lines appears in lower right corner (no OS recognized).
So you have to flash 2 times. Radio flash is shorted for the first attempt and on the second turn you flash your ROM with CustomRUU.
There is a similiar tool like this with the method working with other devices I described above. FlashaholicRUU. Someone give it a try for Diamond. Next week I'll do it and report back.
Cheers,
Cina.

I remember to see that post on xda developers front page short time ago, but I was not sure if it would work for HTC Diamond.
A universal task29 that would format and flash the device in one single process.
Ironically it was developed a few weeks after I have found an alternative way to mitty that I posted here.
So far I did not hear that it was compatible with Diamond, so I will not risk it.
It's nice to have all these options, because when I searched for something like this a few months ago, I could only find the mitty threat that has more than 80 posts.
For me it was strange as newer devices with very similar hardware and software already had something like this, but Diamond users had to use mitty.
Well I am glad that you like it, and hopefully I helped someone that was not able or willing to do it manually.
