Hi GUys,
Anyone know if the camera module for the HTC desire is soldered on to the base board?
On my Hero, it was just stuck on and connected via a flex cable...I desperately need to remove the camera module.
Thanks!!!
I have no idea how to do that, but curiosity got over me, so I have to ask.
Why do you want to remove camera in the first place?

Office security policy does not allow cameras on-site :X
And you would butcher your phone to do that? :S
just put a black sticker over the inside of the back cover, try take a photo and show security.
in that case, isn't it better to get yourself a low-tech phone without cam for that purpose?
I mean it's a such a shame to butcher Desire for that reason...
well could you live with a low tech phone?
it isnt bad if the camera is just attached by a flex cable because you can always put it back.
i guess I'll just end up being the first one to try : (

Have a Desire as a weekend phone - crap, non-camera one for week days...job done!!
And defeat the purpose of buying the Desire? Maybe he needs all the features of the Desire while at work where a dumb phone wouldn't cut it?
The sticker over the lens idea sounds good if they'll accept it.

I didnt understand your answer. did you manage to tear out the camera?
"one" referes to another desire or a crappy phone?
Eysham
Check out these teardown pics.

hey guys, the history goes like this... a guy is selling a desire at a really low price, is brand new but when you turn it on it jumps to the fastboot screen right away
sooo my question is... could it be a software issue? or maybe the volume keys are messed up?
here is a picuture of it ---> http://s357.photobucket.com/albums/...ire/?action=view¤t=2010-09-11201019.jpg
i havent tested the phone myself, just seen pictures and talked to the owner....
I have a g1 and i have adb and fastboot working on my laptop so, could i root it from there flash a rom and maybe it will fix that? what do you guys think?? any ideas??
This is purely guesswork, but it could be water damaged.
Warranty? If not then buy yourself a can if campressed air and take the phine apart.. not that hard I did it!

the phone is brand new and it seemw like this guy has a bunch of desires, he says he received this one in a recent batch but this is the only one with a problem... so i dont think it could be water damage, maybe a really hard fall? or shake? cause it look perfect no scratches or scuffs or dents or nothing... weird uh?
I really want to buy it but i dont want to waste my money...
any other ideas? my main question is that if it can be fixed with root and a new rom... maybe?

Just out of curiosity... what was the problem with yours and how did you fixed it?? i think that this one might have the back key stucked cuase thats how you go into the bootloader right?? pressing down power and back??
edit: ok, he sold it to another person... i got a mytouch slide for now... thanks for the help anyways
Somehow mysteriously today my camera lens cracked :'( I don't have warranty or protection on my phone either. What would be the best thing for me to do to try and get a new one?? I take very very well care of my phone and even though its just the lens, it hurts and u use my camera a lot. What's your guys advice? Thank you in advance.

What if they notice that you are rooted, can they cancel your warranty for any future software related claims?
that would be pretty shady of them, but i cant sy for sure, but if i worked there and i noticed dat, i might make a note out of it. idk.
there not suppose to fix it if its rooted but put a stock rooted rom on it for now so they wont notice i have a couple buddys that work at the sprint store they are rooted but if you brng a phone in there rooted they will try to fix it for free if its not a big deal but thats them lol idk about others he told me there not suppose to but they might try
Background story:
The focus mechanism of the camera module in my Defy has broken. When I first got it, it could take really good close up photos, but now the focus is stuck at infinity all the time. Even the EXIF data of the photos shows that the focal length is always 4mm (the maximum).
I upgraded to the latest official sbf, tried all different camera apps on the market, and did lots of factory resets, but there was no change.
I sent it to SBE limited (the UK Motorola repair centre) twice, but both times they sent it back saying "screening passed, software updated" I even wrote them a letter explaining exactly what the problem was both times - apparently the f***ing idiots can't read.
Anyway, it takes about a month to get my Defy back each time (unfixed!) so I decided I would have a go at replacing the camera module myself.
Questions:
1) I've found a camera module here http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Motorola-Defy-MB525-Camera-p/mot1038910.htm which is only $9.99! Has anyone used this company before? Are they genuine?
2) These people http://www.iphonerepairparts.com/t-...oid-mb525-camera-imager-assembly-tmobile.html have a camera module for $59.99 - same question - has anybody used this company before?
3) If I'm replacing the camera module anyway, I thought I might try and find a Bayer module instead I haven't been able to find anything with google yet.
Does anyone know where you can buy the Bayer camera modules for the Defy?
If you have warranty send your phone to the motorola service!
I think its hard to change the camera!
Is the second one a Bayer module? For the first one, I am almost sure it's SOC

SBE are the warranty repair centre for motorola in the UK, and they keep sending it back without changing the camera.
I would just send it in again, but I would be without my phone for another month and they probably still won't fix it

I've sent emails to both companies to find out, just waiting for replies now. The first one is really cheap though....

That is definitely worth asking, I have sent them an email
I would just call them, but I think it is actually impossible to ever talk to a real person! I've never got to the end of the telephone queue system, and I've waited for quite a long time.

Yes, cpu is on the motherboard. Think its the square black chip. Cant remember exactly what it looks like as it was long time since i took one apart. The sim/sd part clips on to the motherboard from what i remember.
This should help you.

about the wifi , what is to be done ?? replace something to get it working ? (like what ? )
the wifi seems like a lagging in the software (it shows white screen when i open wifi to search for access points) .. would it work if i reset the system software ??
After water damage there's high odds you need to replace the total MoBo to get it fully functional again which would be a very costly repair in the HTC One M8. Might not even be worth it. You could try it yourself, but good luck getting a motherboard from somewhere. It's a scavenger hunt for these.
Protip: Don't take your freaking flagship phone with you to the shower. I wouldn't see why anybody would ever do that.

Yes, but let's face it: it's obvious the HTC One M8 is NOT waterproof. Saying it's not a smart move taking this phone to the bathroom is an euphemism. You should never have to say: if only I hadn't.. cuz then it's too late.
