about the wifi , what is to be done ?? replace something to get it working ? (like what ? )
the wifi seems like a lagging in the software (it shows white screen when i open wifi to search for access points) .. would it work if i reset the system software ??

After water damage there's high odds you need to replace the total MoBo to get it fully functional again which would be a very costly repair in the HTC One M8. Might not even be worth it. You could try it yourself, but good luck getting a motherboard from somewhere. It's a scavenger hunt for these.
Protip: Don't take your freaking flagship phone with you to the shower. I wouldn't see why anybody would ever do that.

If their flagship phone is waterproof, like xperia Z# then they can lol.

Yes, but let's face it: it's obvious the HTC One M8 is NOT waterproof. Saying it's not a smart move taking this phone to the bathroom is an euphemism. You should never have to say: if only I hadn't.. cuz then it's too late.

Desire HD just vibrates 7 times - please help

Hi,
While on holiday I put my Desire HD on charge over night (was working fine at that point), but when trying to turn it on the next morning it just vibrated 7 times and that was it - the phone would do nothing. The phone doesn't respond to the hard reset process described on the HTC website and no lights come on at any point (not even when connected to the charger).
The only time the phone does anything, is when you eject the battery and re-insert it. At the point where the battery touches the contacts inside the phone, it vibrates 7 times again and nothing more. The phone has not been modified in any way and uses the original OS from HTC. All the phone does is vibrate 7 times when inserting the battery. Otherwise it's completely dead.
This would, I presume, normally be a simple warranty case (8 month old phone). However, in my desperation to reset/fix the phone, I tried pressing what I thought was a reset button underneath the SIM & memory card cover (with the tip of a pen). Instead of the 'click' that I expected though, it pierced what turned out to be a small black sticker - an action which HTC says has invalidated the warranty on my phone. They have now created a return reference for me, but I'm likely to be hit with a big bill for repair if/when I send the phone in.
I understand that confusing a sticker for a button is a stupid thing to do, but I can't change what I did and I genuinely thought that I was pressing a button on the back of the phone.
Is there any possible solution without having to send the phone in to HTC?
Thank you,
Craig.

Can you post a pic of the black sticker you accidently clicked.. Also any other "void stick" there is
I'd like to know if it is obvious that you tried to open the phone up or not..
To me, if you cannot get into Recovery nor Bootloader, your pretty much screwed, try pulling battery out, insert it back in, hold the Volume down button, and while holding press Power button?
Found this aswell:

Others with your problem, but it seems Service is the only way..

I'll have access to a Digital SLR tonight and will post a photo tonight. Looking at the phone though, it is clearly visible that it has not been touched with anything other than the tip of a pen. There is another small sticker that I found in the battery compartment - this is completely in tact.
I don't think anyone looking at the phone would doubt that the one sticker was pierced with the tip of a pen, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to make any difference. The guy I spoke to from HTC was friendly and polite, but he insisted that it wouldn't make any difference - I broke the rules and that's it.
I suppose the only reason that I'm disappointed is that I've now had four HTC smartphones and I've never requested warranty support before. Oh well... :-(
Thanks for the links you provided. Lots of useful info, but unfortunately I can't find any solution - the phone is clearly dead.
Thanks,
Craig.

Here's the pic. I didn't bother taking a photo of the other sticker as it hasn't been touched or damaged at all. Would you say it's worth sending the phone and enclosing a note explaining what I did?

Sending it I believe is the only way the phone will get fixed. DO include a note explaining what you did but I dont know how useful it will be. You never know though. As the other one is still intact they may believe you and do it for free.
Repaired
I just wanted to say thanks for the replies. I sent my phone in and the repair was carried out under warranty.

Craig.

Apparently it was a motherboard failure. The board was replaced and now it's working fine again.

Exactly the same is happening to me... 8 months old too..
About to send it off for warrenty, but can you tell me if you lost all your information and number, apps on the handset, as I cant remember the last time I did a sync..
thanks..
I just got answer from HTC service that motherboard of my DHD is broken and they wont replace it because of unautorised firmware flashed...

Lol...thats bad, This might be the first case which I have seen returned because of unauthorized firmware..., Don't leave it like that and read the full document which come with the phone. There will be some wording which might not be clear but should be enough to fight back...
Yep...I think I'm the first person who returned phone back from warranty because of no HTC firmware flashed...As soon as I get my DHD and documents back I'll report what they said.

Yes, if you send the phone in for repair, you will lose everything stored on the device that you haven't backed up. I think this will be the case even if they don't replace the motherboard. Any apps that you previously bought through Android Market can be restored though - you don't have to buy them again.

Hmm.. That's bad news... Trying to read between the lines a bit - Are they saying that they won't replace the motherboard because you have flashed the phone, or because they suspect that flashing the phone played a direct role in the failure?
If the motherboard has died surely they'd replace it? Then again, if the motherboard had died completely - how would they know that the phone had been flashed in the first place?
When exactly did the problem start for you?
Craig.

A returned my phone to the seller so I don't have direct contact with HTC service but the seller got information from service that: motherboard is dead because of flashing unauthorized firmware/unauthorized firmware damaged motherboard...I'm waiting to get my phone back from service with documentation and then I'll fight back...
My phone works perfectly normal and when I tried to reebot it simply wont boot...it's strange and I wonder how firmware it self could damage motherboard?
Ok, DHD came back from HTC service with all documentation and statement that they will not repair it etc...and it normally boot into OS...But it couldn't boot into bootloader - just vibrates 3 times. So I booted it again into OS and flashed again the hboot and after that phone successfully boot into bootloader .So now my DHD is fully functional I just wonder why HTC claimed that motherboard is broken and wanted me to pay for replacement...?
Very strange - 8 month fault
I too have a DHD - this one is stock standard - got it back from employee today as he said it was not charging (worked right up till then). i plugged it in and got a flashing orange amber light. left if for a while noting would work. finally worked out if i inserted teh battery while plugged in it woud give me a solid charging light and vibrate 7 times.
Seems strange that they are all faulting at 8 months. Mine was an import, so it might have to go back to singapore or malaysia or where ever it cam from.
Checked battery it is at 3.8V so ok.

My warranties over and i've got the same problem!
I just wanted to know if your phone wasn't working at all before you gave it in for service? And when it came back, it was working again?
And be not ready to repair it, they weren't ready to repair it for a fee either?

My phone wasn't working at all it didn't boot even display splash screen...just vibrates.I heared phone services have devices called "BOX" which can unbrick your dead phone.I think they did it with my phone and when it boots they saw my own boot screen instead of stock HTC...so it was clear to them they can void my warranty and offer motherboard replacement for fee (high fee ).I didn't agree for that and phone returned to me unbricked.I just had to reflash hboot again.

Boot loop after water (and piss) damage...

This morning my phone tried to commit suicide jumping in the toilets...
So, (i pass the details on how i put it out of it...) i tried to clean it and dry it whith a "towel dryer", and finally i opened it to dry the motherboard.
After butting pieces together i got the orange led when i charge the phone, but i got a boot loop when i power it on, and it won't even start if its not on charge.
I tried to go to bootloader mode but it's the same, i can barrely see the bootloader menu 1/2 second and then it reboots..
Any idea that could help me ? Thanks in advance
FUBAR - hardware damage. Send it to repair/replacement.
You want to put that next to your face still?
I studied uric acid ( urine ) as part of my degree, bar it being wonderful to look at ... perfect diamond crystals, it kills electrical circuits .
it' the way it "charged".. Ions etc , therefore as said before , if you did turn it on , you would of shorted out the system.
They will have to give you a new phone.. so it could be good news !!
Ok thanks, i will try the rice thing... if its not working i guess i will be stuck with a good old HTC Prophet until the Galaxy nexus is out...

Well, my phone stayed on my desktop this week-end, and this morning, it came back from the dead ! ( 4 days after the incident, in your face Jesus ! )
This phone is just legendary
Wow, the phone works after a dive into the peehole... Anyway, although it is still under warranty you can't replace it. They'll see the damage and they will charge you for it. I had mine replaced due to the overheating reboot problem and when i left it to the service they told me if it is damaged by me, either by drop or water i will have to pay.

If its like Apple , as the other have said , they will blame you , as you to pay . My work chum shut his phone in the car boot lock last year .. had to get a new screen , they blamed him .. he had to pay 80 quid to get a new screen ... ( the phone worked other wise .. and still does ! ) I have dropped my desire from my loft , it fell down the stairs and hit the front door... still all OK !!

What do i do now that HTC has screwed me over?

Just to give you a brief rundown of everything that's happened..
I'm 17 and saved up for a few months to buy a HTC One X. Needless to say, it's probably the most expensive phone i've ever owned, since all my other phones were hand-me-downs and old phones from eBay.
This morning i wake up and go to work as usual. Just to find my phone's display won't switch on. As you can imagine, I'm tirelessly panicking and try the 3 button combo.. to no avail.
Using Fastboot to reboot didn't work either.
This phone turned into a brick overnight, and i have no idea what happened??
Just before i left for work, i did check my phone and it was working alright.. Then five minutes later, it won't display anything.
The thing is, I can't take it back to HTC either because this is my 5th replacement phone!
First one had black glue smudged on the LCD it's self,
Second one had the screen not glued down and wasn't aligned,
Third one didn't even have any glue applied and the case wasn't even attached properly,
Forth one had this problem where the screen's LCD would dilate if i touched it - even lightly,
and this one is my 5th, the antenna wasn't properly connected and now the screen doesn't work.
I've had terrible luck, and i don't know what i can do?
If you can give me any information to get me out of this, it would be much appreciated.
Although i still can receive text's and calls fine, it's just the display..
Since you’re unlocked and running a non-stock kernel and ROM, maybe some of the dev-ish folks can help you resuscitate it if it’s indeed a s/w problem.
If it’s a h/w problem, what to do depends on where you bought the phone and how old it is. If it’s within the remorse/DOA period maybe you can exchange it. It’ll be hard for whoever you bought it from to see you’ve unlocked it if nothing’s showing on the display.
If it’s outside of the exchange period you’ll have to send it in for repair. If you can’t bring it back to life to flash it back to stock you’ll have to throw yourself on the mercy of HTC Asia in getting it fixed unlocked. HTC's different repair centers seem to all have different policies related to warranty coverage for h/w faults on unlocked phones. If it is a dead display maybe you’ll get lucky.
You might want to put a note in with it telling your “I’m 17” story and how devastated you are something you’ve worked so hard for has failed. Repair techs are people too. Good luck.

I shook the device out of frustration.. and it started working for a few seconds.
What's going on here? Is it a faulty display/connection? Is there a way to possibly just send it to a nearby phone shop and get it fixed?
Sorry about all the questions, I'm shocked, happy, and devastated all at the same time.
Are HTC refusing then? That seems a bit off/ illegal... Surely under the faulty goods act (I assume the law isn't THAT different in Australia to UK) they have to take it back as it CAN'T be a year old and they can't prove the issue was caused by your mistreatment. It doesn't matter how many phones you've had... Also, where did you buy the phone from? I think you should be able to return it through the shop as THEY sold you the phone, not HTC... They are still under an obligation as they sold you the thing.
Plus, the 'I'm a 17 year old and saved up for ages thing' might work too! I'd try not to get too technical with the law if you go down this route though!
Best of luck sorting this out. It's within your rights to get a replacement (you bought the phone new, I assume?) so I'm sure this will eventually work out. Don't give up! You just need to speak/ write to the right person...

What rom were you on?
I remember my One X not charging at all while it was turned off completely although it showed Orange charging led.
It could be that you ran out of battery and phone not turning on. Due to no charging effect.
@Op,
Reading your story there's one thing that's crossing my mind.
Could it be possible the battery run dry during the night?
It sounds stupid but those things you forget easy when you're in a hurry or stressed.
I don't read anything in your post you tried to charge.

Yes. But not in every region (yet). Do a search. It's been disucssed. Also, it appears Samsung's going down the same path.

Aware of the discussion... Using the xda app and didn't pick up that the phone's been 'HTCdev'd (my fault for not reading properly - sorry, folks!). Still not sure HTC/ Samsung can legally 'sign your rights away' though. Still, not a discussion for here...
Hope you got the phone sorted anyway.

HELP: Some area part of the touch screen is just dead

Hi all, I have got a problem with my HOX. First of all it has the original rom and everything updated.
Now I begin, two days ago I was outside working out and it was raining so I put the phone in a bag. However my HOX got wet a bit but the phone has been wet like that before and nothing has happend. Anywayz, when I came home the phone worked fine. But after 4 houres some part of the screen wasn't responding. I tried to reboot and reinstall the phone but that dead touchscreen area was still there. So I contacted the company I bought the phone from and they told me to send the phone back to repair because I still have the garantie left. But I have no idea, can I fix this problem my self somehow and not need to send it for repair service? Has anyone had same problem too?
Because if they find out the phone got wet and it was my fault, then I would have to pay 60 dollars to get it back without repairing.
anyone?

They will probably find out as there are small parts on the inside of the phone that can show if a device has water damage or not. It sounds like a hardware defect but you can ofcourse try to flash a different rom, but I doubt that that will help
Don't void your warranty by flashing roms right now. Your best hope is to send the device for repair and hope that they don't find out about the water..

I have thought about send it back but if they find out it's from the water damage then as I said I would pay 60 dollars without having the phone repaird
And really flashing rom isn't good idea yet if I still have 5 monthes left on phone waranty
And I have found digiziter for htc one x on ebay for like 10 dollars, maybe I should buy that and try to replace the screen with a new one?

You can try, by the way I have e-mailed HTC this week, and unlocking the bootloader and installing a custom recovery + Rom does NOT void your warranty: IF DONE CORRECTLY.
If people are interested I can copy the mail/pm of an official HTC employee to them.

Help with my M8

Hey guys!
On friday afternoon, i believe i killed my 3 month old baby. I got furious at something, and threw the phone onto my desk (I'm 190cm 6'3, desk is about 70cm above ground, you do the maths) and when i picked the phone up...
It looked fine.
I tried unlocking it, nothing would come up other than a black screen lighting up, but the sounds touch etc it works fine. Even the digitizer seems fine, odd enough.
So practically the inner LCD is dead, and unfortunately since i bought the device from US and went back to my homecountry, that screen replacement thing doesnt work out for me. Also unfortunately HTC is a complete asshat and for a reason no one knows, decided to not make any authorized services in the country, and i dont want to trust some dude downtown which can "fix my phone for 450tl" (thats a big deal of money where the minimum wage is 900tl per month) that doesnt even have a store but a stand.
Since then im using my old S3, which shared the same faith; furious throws ended up with inner lcd being cracked. Got it replaced from dealer, but ever since its 3G module does not work and oddly enough the guys there were like "your phone was rooted its out of warranty if anything relating mobo happens" before even accepting payment; 3 days later hte phone started acting up and 3G failed.
Anyway to the actual question, how hard are these screens to change? Also, any good sellers on fleabay? I talked with a few phone guys I know and they agreed to change it if i provide the screen, but honestly i dont know what to do, to sell this phone and get an iPhone (or a S5 because waterproof) or to somehow get this repaired? I'm fairly pissed off that i cant get a damn phone repaired which is also sold and imported into the country...
Also kinda unrelated but might anyone know why the 3G doesnt work? I've since then unrooted the phone and reverted back to stock rom but its still not working...
Maybe this will get you an idea: http://goo.gl/nBvaLz
Never done it myself tho with an m8. My DHD and OneX have been fully disassembled without problems tho to replace almost everything. [emoji41]
Look for disassembly videos online and order a new screen\digitizer assembly form ebay (dont attempt to separate the glass from the screen).
It takes patience and some steady hands, but it is possible to change the assembly.

The M8 has a repairability score of 2/10. I bent my back cover, and many cell repair shops refused to replace it.
You don't want to take this on by yourself. Check out the tear down at ifixit.com.
Just did the work on a M7, it should not be all that different. Though, I have not tried it myself on my M8.

Lol, you can leave it be and just buy a new one as well, yeah. The easy way....
imo 2/10 means it's repairable (my glass is half full). I would look for a cheap dead-mobo or a hard-bricked phone (with a working screen , that is)
^This guy
As long as you cant use it, why not try?

Hey guys!
On friday afternoon, i believe i killed my 3 month old baby. I got furious at something, and threw the phone onto my desk (I'm 190cm 6'3, desk is about 70cm above ground, you do the maths) and when i picked the phone up...
It looked fine.

And the next time a girl breaks up with you - don't take it out at you phone, just hit a pillow.
I'm going to make the hotspot stay open 24/7, because S3 doesnt have mobile network, and since I'm paying why not actually use it?
Also, odd enough one service quoted me 330TL while another said 450TL (both in far away cities) when one in my city asked 400TL...
