Ok - I've finally got my email on my phone synced to googlemail, which in turn is synced to yahoo which was may bread and butter email client until I got this phone.
So - question is, why is my googlemail not showing any of today's emails, and yet I have already recieved about ten emails in my yahoo account?
Any ideas?
If you have asked google to transfer your emails from yahoo to google, it will not do it immediately.
Google will poll yahoo occasionally to collect emails, and then notify you about them all in one go.
You need to let all your contacts know your new google address as this will bring you notifications immediately. Also, google wont poll your yahoo address indefinitely , so at some point in the future, you will only be notified about new google emails and not new yahoo ones.

Seriously? What is the point in that? I would hardly call that syncing acounts, is it? So, if I want to continue using my phone with email, I essentially need to cancel my yahoo mail account that I've been using for over 10 years?

I have added Gmail with IMAP support to my TP2 and can choose to download only mail from the last day, last 2 days, last 3 days, etc. But I'm looking for an option to download only the new messages. I'm afraid this isn't possible?
If I recall correctly, you can also choose 1 wk, 2 wks, and 1 month as the amount of emails you want to download to your device.
Anyway, if what you want is just new mail, you set up your email account as a POP3 account and go to Gmail and enable POP3 for only new messages.
Problem with POP is that messages I will read on my TP2 keep unreaded on gmail webmail.
Is IMAP unable to check if a message is read or unread?
You're right regarding POP3. That's why IMAP is better. Everytime you connect via IMAP, your inboxes on your device and Gmail will sync. Meaning all read messages on your device will be marked as read and new messages will be downloaded.
But there's no way to just download new messages. You have to specify a suitable time period for your device to look back on Gmail's server to sync.
Well if you set it to 3 days then after 3 days it will only download new messages.

you can use outlook mail with google synch, you know, rather than IMAP and POP3, this way you can sync your mail, calendar, and even contacts....fins the settings on google website

Yes, but on day 4 there will be new messages which I have opened on gmail.com. I don't need those messages on my TP2, only the unreaded ones.

Yeah, I have used it to sync my Google Calendar but I'm looking for an easier way to receive only unreaded messages on my TP instead of visiting gmail.com on my TP2 (and mark as readed after reading them on my TP2).
i successfully set up my hotmail in my X1, set the sync frequency to As Items Arrive, intending to activate push mail.
but now everytime i have new mail, i am not notified at all, not even showing of the numbers of new mails in the Today Screen.
i still need to manually go Menu > Send/Receive to update my mailbox.
any1 got solution or what application i need install?

This would be a workaround, but it would work.
1. Create a Gmail account.
2. Forward your Hotmail to Gmail.
3. Set up your Gmail so that you can reply using your Hotmail account. (yeah you can do that...nifty eh?)
4. Go to your Outlook on your phone and set up "gmail-sync" as your push mail account to retrieve from. It's in beta right now but is working 100% perfectly on my Kaiser. (I'm in here because I'm getting a SEX1 in a couple days ) I frickin' LOVE IT - it pushes IMMEDIATELY as soon as the mail comes in. Instructions here:

5. Now all your e-mails will be stored to your phone permanently too, instead of the inbox getting wiped every time you send receive, or whenever you have your timing set up for that.
6. Forget about Hotmail and start using Gmail lol. Just kidding...but if you set it up that way, you can still use your Hotmail completely, Gmail will be practically invisible to you. (Or is it the other way around? lol)
Seriously, Google's free push e-mail service is amaaazing. I am LOVING it.

Syncing frequency to As Items Arrive works perfectly for me.
I confirm that both hotmail and gmail works as a push mail on my XPERIA.
For hotmail, you can just use windows live connection setup and choose/set "as items arrive" and set the time as "always". For gmail, you can use the activesync feature on outlook mobile as have been told by deezy7 above.
Or else, you can use the feature from Emoze service.

If you would like to have a free account for push mail service you should try Emoze. I have been playing with Emoze and honestly it helps me much to get my XPERIA have numerous mail account which works as a push mail ....
Ok, I did some workaround, created another gmail account and forwarded all my accounts to that one, and I receiving only that one.
Maybe not the best solution , but I prefer not to use online services like mobipush and such where u leave them your user name and password for each account u have...
As an alternative to Emoze i use Seven Beta. It provides near realtime push on most types of account.

Hey icbicb, in response to your other question as well, my suggestion would have been to do what you already did, which is create another gmail acccount I also prefer not to use any other online services, and was very happy when Google came out with Gmail Sync, since I've already been using my gmail account for five years, and don't have to give out sensitive information to yet another company
To those here using other services, I'd suggest you give Gmail Sync a try. Deedee, I noticed you said that Seven Beta provides you with near realtime push. I've noticed with Gmail Sync, and having my Gmail open at the same time on my pc at work, that Gmail Sync pushes in actual realtime! I'll hear the notification on my phone first before my page refreshes to show me my new e-mail! Also, I should mention that I am using gmail plug-ins to autoupdate the screen when new e-mails come in, and the Gmail sync sends them to my phone simultaneously or even before my page refreshes, thus, I know that it is actual real-time. Just like blackberry's service! I'm in love with it right now

Big advantage of Seven Beta is that it works for almost all POP3/IMAP email systems and it keeps all the accounts separate so that replies from your PPC keep the correct return address.
I have it working on Gmail x 2, Hotmail and a POP3 account and all four accounts are independant of each other.
I said near real time sync as i didn't want to claim real time in case it wasn't. I rarely use the web interface since starting Seven so haven't been in a position to check. As i tell the BB users at work if you have time to compare the two delivery times then maybe you don't need a BB.

@Deedee, gmail does that also....so... for example, when you get mail forwarded to your gmail account, if it was originally sent to your hotmail account, when you reply on the phone, it will reply from the hotmail account. Gmail's set up pretty good that way. I believe right now though they have a limit on the number of accounts you can send mail from, not sure if it is 3 or 4. So it's pretty neat that Seven Beta keeps all accounts separate ...btw very nice avatar
Seven is only restricted by the number of accounts that can be set up in WM, think it's 8 in total, that includes your ActiveSync/Exchange and SMS accounts.

This will setup an Exchange-like server and will enable you to do that. At least I am pretty sure that isn't what you are already doing, because this will setup the email and sync Calendar, Contacts and Email with PUSH. Let me know if you need any help.

Part of the issue is resolved. We can now add to the calendar and it sends the email to those attendee's we add to that event, thru our gmail accounts. How i fixed that was going into the office folder and using the calendar link in there. In menu/tool/options, appointments page, there is a "send meeting requests via: (email account)". I just changed it from outlook email to our gmail account. So now it sends them out with the gmail account rather than sitting in the outlook outbox.
THE NEXT ISSUE is that when anyone sends you a meeting request, from outlook(pc) OR from the phones calendar thru gmail, if you recieve that request on the phone, there are no buttons to "accept/tentative/decline/propose new time", like there is in outlook pc. It just comes in as a regular email that looks very useless. The only way to accept or decline is to read the email in outlook on the pc where you have buttons "accept/tentative/decline/propose new time".

Actually, I did understand the issue.
You aren't setting the email up correctly. If it is showing up as Gmail, and not Outlook it isn't setup for Exchange. You need to remove that account and follow my link to setup Exchange features...
Im not following you on this exchange stuff. What does an exchange have to do with poutlook not showing an email with the same options as outlook on the pc?
ok i just set this up on phone. active sync on phone says attention required.
result: the config on your exchange server prevents you from sync'ing. please contact your serv admin.
BUT getting and sending email is working right. Syncing is working for email.
Creating a calendar event and adding attenees is not working at all now. The emails never go out. Sending an event to myself from my wifes phone somes into the phone the (no good). But comes into my outlook pc correctly
Setting up sync has its own issues. I sent an event from my phone to my wifes phone. Oh joy, i get an html page i can accept with on her imap email.
I accepted it on the wifes phone and it NEVER went onto her calendar on the phone. Which leads me to beleive she must have sync setup too. What a joke!!!!!
It would be so much easier if google mail would include the MS office option buttons for reading and responding to event emails.
Not only that, but now i have to create events either on the phone, or in google cal. I can not setup events in outlook and have them all sync UNLESS i pay and use google apps.
Google has a big problem with MS. If i send an event to a google account, if i read that event email in gmail, its also striped of any way to open or respond.
The way this works best if WANTING to use gmail and outlook, while still wanting to use outlook for events cal, is to only reply, respond or accept events within outlook on the pc.

You have to ONLY select Contacts, Calendar and Mail. Try that and let me know if you still get that Att Required... Also, if all else fails I can give you my email and we can test it that way.

One thing I have noticed is that my yahoo and hotmail accounts are not syncing the 'marked as read'. I have read the emails on the phone, but when I look at the mail on my laptop its still unread. Anyone had any simular issues?
try seven beta http://community.seven.com/main.php the problem you are having is that you have a pop connection to hotmail. So the phone keeps a copy of the emails rather than the push email which will understand read flags etc.

tbh your best bet is to do what i did and have your hotmail forwarded to a gmail account and use that gmail is much better and you can even get it to send as the hotmail addy. Also being a google phone it works a treat.
I have 3 calender accounts, 2 gmail and 1 yahoo. Is it possible to add a third account so the tab will sync with it also. I have the 2 gmails added to the Google account settings but can not find a way to add a third. I know it is possible to add yahoo because I had it installed on other tablet but I never had 3 in the Google setings. Is it possible?

Those are the steps I follow and I get a confirmation after entering the Yahoo accont but when I go back and check the Google accounts there is still only the 2 gmail account. I do have a Yahoo email address as one of my Google play account. Still do no know wy it will not show in Google account?

You can actually use gmail email accounts to import emails from things like say yahoo so they all come to one email address if that makes sense, but otherwise its sacrifice time lol sorry...may i ask what is your intended use to have the 3 gmail accounts synced in your phone? Do u just want the emails themselves or all of googles services for all 3 if that makes sense.
