Hello folks,
I've been thinking on this.
I think its very possible to install a normal SD WiFi into the device and I remember that someone talked about this in the past but I think the thread got lost in the last DB crash.
Does anyone know or has some info?
I will take the risk in doing this if someone gives me some feedback.
I tore appart my Socket SD WiFi and belive me, it's really small and thin!
I think it's just a matter of soldering the contacts to the correct positions on the slot, but still, i'm not sure what would happen if once soldered I insert a memory card...
Some say that even with the WiFi card turned off but inserted will still draw power from the battery, how true is that?
Any feedback is really appreciated.
TIA,
Rayan

Though it might be interesting for the rest of us, don't do it. It think you will fail. Reasons are:
- there is most likely not enough free space inside the device
- even if there was, the WLAN antenna would then be inside the device, causing all sorts of electromagnetic interference and disturbing the nornam operation of your device. Also, you'd get really bad reception, as the device's cover shields the antenna
- if you solder things to the SD port's PINs, you can no longer insert another SD Card. Well, physically you can, but electrically you then have two SD cards, which will overload the card slot pin drivers; and logically you also have two cards, and when some software talks to "the" card, both will try to respond, causing undefined behavious.
So, unless I missed something very basic (like today being April 1st... ;-)), this sounds like a really bad idea.
Cheers, Daniel
I was thinking of doing this to the Imate Jam which does not have wifi. The XDAIIs has it internal so I dont think it would be that bad. You cant unplug it also and I dont think it uses more power while switch off.
But at the end of the day, its your phone so do what you want, just let us know how you go.
Good luck
Thank you for your feedback!
That's a good point zakeen, however the XDAIIs was meant to be like that.
But I really don't think the interference could be that bad since the WiFi antenna will be just a couple of inches closer to the rest of the hardware. And even though it's not a real test, I already placed my MDA2 close to my WiFi router's antenna and it didn't cause any interference at all... But still I might be wrong and the telephone part of the MDA2 might loose a few reception bars since I plan to place the WiFi module right on top of the cellular antenna...
I think the real problem resides on what tadzio mentions about the piggy back not working... :?
In terms of space, I'm sure it will fit (I already know my MDA2's internals after several disections in the past!).
Any other ideas?
TIA,
Rayan
Wonderful They border, with two xxxxxx! Recently time which I am thinking about making a false SD card that allows me to accede to the contacts and to experiment without having to open the PDA, but do not have a SD with wifi (I have it in CF format with backpack) I think that if the antenna wifi is behind the black cover there are no problems since that part is not chromed (for that reason it is there where antenna GSM goes)
hi im gonna send my phone back because the call/answer button doesnt work very well, i have flashed the phone to original htc but on the new windows mobile 6, i have downgraded the ipl and spl so i dont have olipro. Just wanted to know if its fine to send back phone on the new os or is it prefered if it was back on wm5 instead of 6?
i dont want them complaining its my fault for the button not working well, but i do know its hardware related but you know how companies will squirm out of paying to fix their problem.
Any advice would be grateful.

I've seen many comments in many threads about returning phones under warranty and the consensus is that IPL/SPL or ROM probably doesn't matter. Nobody seems to notice....
I bricked my 8525 a couple of months ago while out in Los Altos, CA.
Took it into the AT&T dealership near Stanford. They exchanged it no questions asked. They basically looked it over to see if it had been dropped (looking for deep scratches), and checked the fluid indicator near the battery to ensure it had not gotten wet.
I don't think they care what version the phone is running, but I'm not 100% positive.
if ur phone is htc branded then yes it is okay as u are sending it back with a official htc rom. if its another then send it back with that carriers rom. better safe the sorry.
EDIT: i see u have a htc tytn so yes dont worrry about it as long as spl and ipl are the same as original.
thanks for the advice, hopefully the wont complain about the little scratches, im abit clumsy this past few weeks. Cheers all
Upgraded BT BB Anywhere HTC S620 to Kavana's excellent wm6.1 rom. All working great.
Anyone know how to restore BT as the operator logo instead of vodafone?
Am afraid i dont.
I have the same phone and also flashed it.
BT runs on the Vodaphone network.
Does it matter the op logo is not BT? its not like you havent invalidated ur warranty already.
No it's not a big deal really, just wondered if it could be done.
i had this issue, but strangely, a few days later, it returned to BT on its own, whereas it had said vodafone
very strange.
I've had kavana 6.1 on for a few weeks now so I don't think it's going to change now. I could always phone BT & say their logo has disappeared from the phone, I'm sure they would be helpfull...yeah right

What about getting the logo off the phone body "debadge"
Thought about thinners "No it will discolour"
Brillo pad "Sounds a bit extreme"
Sticker "Bound to come off"
Any ideas hate the reminder of BT everytime i look at my phone
If you have to return phone ever make sure you reflash BT ROM http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=a1e428ed720bdf418c9e7c56ba37815f84a9dca793b93f60
Wish I could help with the internal operator logo. US phones don't display them.
As for the case badge, the usual remedy is rubbing it with table sugar with your fingers. If not careful, it could mar the finish, but it's the surest way to get the branding removed without harming the phone.

Providing the phone is in a fit state to be reflashed of course, knowing my luck the phone will die one day & I won't be able to reflash before returning. Although I think if I had kept the BT **** on there another second I would have binned it anyway.

I know's what you mean, i have not upgraded to Kavana, due to my phone working extremely well with a re-set and OC'd, WM6.1 looks nice but bound to use more RAM.
I'm a happy owner.
I put this together for BT users who want to re-set there device, but not void warranty by a ROM update http://www.s620.blogspot.com/ but don't know where to put it doubt BT would like me to put link on there forum???
Have linked off my blog which is on the BT anywhere links, so hope people see it anyway.
Great blog, screenshots look good, I may go down that path next.
Won't the warranty be void if they realise it's been OC'd?, come to think of it would they even check the phone if it was sent back, probably just post out another one.
Would be nice if BT released a 6.1 upgrade, I'm going to find it hard to ditch this.

If you reset phone before going back for repair etc, then there is no trace of software install. They underclock them anyway.
What proof do they have some screenshots with a program installed
I like the way it looks and i'm far more into having a fast phone than one that looks great, but the WM6.1 builds do look amazing.
Trevaaaaaaa take look @ my security Blog also links to Multi-Media under sig.
stylez,
would you have HTC_S710_WWE_BT... ROM? I have a BT HTC S710, which needs reflashing or rebranding because by mistake after using HTC original on it, I needed to reflash, in the process I ended up with a partial reflash (S620), now my smartphone does not show anything on the screen. I have sound from key presses and two green lights on either side of ear piece.

If im not mistaken, the S710 is the VOX.
You would have a better change going to the vox forum and asking them after you read around to see if one is posted.

I have spent days on the HTC S710 posts. No one is coming out with an answer. At the moment they all point to the BT ROM for HTC S620.
BT can only take it in for repairs.
I am in a fix over this one.
7 days no phone.

Guys,
Was wondering if any of you are suffering from HTC service center as i do.
Would like to let you know about my experience.
I have purchased my device about 6 months in Taiwan as in my country it wasn't available yet.
After a month of use i experienced some issues with the power button & 3G signal, and send the device to Greece service center.
After about 8 weeks that i didn't get my device back, I couldn't keep quite about the fix duration I raised a complaint via HTC site.
Surprisingly they have apologized (more then once) and sent me an "HTC Desire HD" as a compensation & my device was fix in a matter of days
Now things go terribly wrong, i got my device broken!!! and not by me, you could clearly see that in the attempt of pulling the screen out of the cover they have BROKEN it!!!
Yet again i found my self complaining about the "FIX" and the conclusion of the investigation that HTC raised was that i have broken it ???:silly:
Luckily for me i have talk with the local distributor about my case and he have changed my cover for FREE (yes, yes FREE!!!)
After all that saga i have found that the signal issue was not fix and i have send the device again to HTC Greece center.
They have signed on the delivery of the package on the 26/10/2012
UNTIL TODAY (AFTER 8 WEEKS) THEY ONLY SAY THAT THEY ARE WAITING FOR SOME PARTS TO FIX MY DEVICE!!!
I'm MAD for the premium money i had to pay for such a service.
I'm kind of HTC freak and had 8 different devices for about 6 years,I think that it's not becoming to such a large company to have service issues.
Hopefully will get my "ONE X" soon and start to enjoy it
Have you all a nice weekend and Merry Christmas.
Dotan.
Worsrt service in greece
I just got screwed from htc greece today...
I send my phone for repair the first time for screen scratches as i bought the phone and had scratches.
And after a month of lying that they cant see the serial number of the device i got it back with a note saying that they found no problem... a month to tell me they found no problem.
Second time i send it in after 5 months of having the device for the wi fi problem and those bastards at htc greece kept my phone for 40 days and then i tryed to contact them they said that they changed the battery and the motherboard and are waiting a third part NOT TRUE i got the device nack with the repair note saying that they only changed the motherboard.
After almost 2 months i got my device with a diferent problem it looses gsm signal and i have to restart the phone to get signal.
Here is the good part i send it back and they told me they wont accept my waranty because the screen is not in perfect place and i have to pay 180 euro for the repair WTF, the way i see it they are lying to avoid the waranty since they are the ones who opened my phone 3 times.
Screw htc greece they are thiefs trying to avoid my waranty, i even told them ok lets asume that the screen somehow moved why wont you change the damn faulty motherboard you installed, and they answer "sorry since the screen is a bit missplaced we cant accept the waranty".
Htc greece = fraud now i have to press charges for fraud...
Why did i even bother to leave the samsung sceen this was my first and last htc device.
No doubt it was a great device and it still is but htc greece service is the mafia of mobile phones..
sorry to hear that my friend, hope you'll get the device soon!! i have it for 3 weeks now and its amazing, so hope they'll get it fix so you could enjoy it too!
Tell them "A yamissoo roofiyanos"
Sent from...... Who cares any way.
they insist i have to pay...i contacted my lawyer and he will press charges for fraud. Such a same for a so great device to have such a lame servise.
To kedp it short i send in my device for the wi fi issue and they send it back with a faulty motherboard that they installed tha loosed gsm signal completely and i have to restart
And they dont accept my waranty because they say the screen is a bit missplaced and they are the ones who opened my phone 3 times for repairs.
The irony is that i didnt want to root so i wont loose the warranty...
man..if u want premium service..buy an Iphone....and in 5 days u'll recieve one new.
i think that my htc one x got some wifi issues but after reading some of the complaint about the services, i'm kind of afraid to send it for repair now.
Thanks Guys.
I really hope to get my HTC OneX soon.
One thing for sure is that will sell it as soon as possible and will move to a better service oriented company.
"nemer12" i know you are right about the service, but iPhone????
HTC should reorganize there stuff and understand that without service they will be in the same spot as RIM today.
Will keep you posted.
from what i understand its better to solve the wi fi isue your self since you wont void the waranty.
you void the waranty if you remove the motherboard where the waranty sticker is
If you send it in for.service... then you are for a treat, they might even whant to avoid the waranty and try to make you pay like they did to me
Hi Guys,
Another week has passed, and we start week number 9.
Still no word from HTC service center about repair time frame.
I have also send a note to VP of customer care in FB :fingers-crossed: , but didn't get any reply just yet.
Really hope that my phone is not lost forever in there system.
Keep you posted in a week.
if i have to pay for the wifi fix then i will go to law ...because it's not my fault and yes...but i hope germany and there " HTC service" is not so bad like in other countries...
propably you will be fine i dont think service in germany act like in greece, in greece they try to robe you, i bet if i had a single scratch they would say that scratching my phone voids the waranty.
I actually got the best service. My bootloader was relocked, and they replaced my whole screen and fixed the wifi hardware problem in 5 days. Of course they charged for the screen. Also, when I told them from which shop I bought it from, they didnt even ask for a receipt!
In every country you have another office and different people, people don't want to face that but they should think a bit further then only there nose.
A company policy should be legal and straight forward in a contract but a company can't help it if they have some lazy dickheads working for them who are fat up of the daily routine (which I can understand as well in certain circumstance :laugh
or some moaners on a forum who like to kill because they are not satisfied with 'some service' if you know what I mean.
I personally had one issue with a phone of HTC (a few years ago) but they were so friendly on the phone when I called them, they asked me some details and picked up and returned the phone fixed in a couple of days.
Ofcourse if you buy a second hand phone on eBay with a limited or no warrentee you won't have the same service by HTC.
The phone I talk about I got as a present from someone who donated it to me from the US as a thanks because of the roms I cooked,
but HTC didn't have a problem at all repairing a US phone in the EU.
The only problem I had with this phone is that I had to pay a lot of import tax even if it was sent as a present.
You get my point? In all corners of the world you have different people and you can't just blame a company for that here on the board.
So do your moaning to the company and try to hit the dickheads, it's so wrong trying to kill a company in general, it sucks what you are doing to my opinion.
Ofcourse everyone has a different story but to my opinion it sucks if you start crying on a board like this, it's wrong and stupid.
I'm using HTC phones for years, I don't say they are perfect as 'every phone has its limits', but you will face that on any phone you think it can be good no matter which manufacturer.
Sorry about my English, it isn't perfect but I only like to make my point, and you can dig up my profile
but I never moaned about a company on the board.
You are not only trying to kill a company but also what used to be a friendly community, that's what I'm trying to explane, think further then only your nose.

Sorry my friend, you totaly missed my point.
I have never tried to "KILL" HTC, there devices are my favorites and i have purchased 6 different models in the passed years.
i have tried to address the service support about my device more then enough for the last 9 weeks !!!
and always i find my self back i the same spot, that is the person in customer care say to me that they understand that it takes too long and they are sorry but they don't are a repair time frame.
And that my friend is not acceptable, i would think that HTC could send me a new device if they can't repair.
But there is no answer from HTC side and it's very disappointing, and i'm trying that someone will wake up and give the right service.
About all your other comments i would rather not address (lets keep it in an adult manner).
Have a nice day.
You don't need to apologise to me.
I didn't miss your point as I do not miss many moaners here on the board, moaners who do miss my point and keep continue coming here, stubborn people who probably never want to understand.
To my opinion you do try to KILL HTC as what else are you trying here, you think you will get a new phone with opening this thread?
Anyway you did made your point as I understand it's useless to answer people like you.
You too, have a nice day.

Hi,
My microphone is not working as it should on the M8 when I get a call or call someone. I can hear them, they can't hear me. Sometimes it works as it should, but it happens more and more infrequent. If I turn on the speaker, the mic seems to work just fine. Isn't it the same mic? I've tried to flash a new ROM (ARHD), and it worked the first two calls, then I didn't try it for a few hours. The next call, it didn't work. Tried to factory reset it, still nothing.
This happend suddenly when I was on a vacation. I didn't flash anything or do anything (that I'm aware of) to trigger this issue. Is there another modem/radio released I can try? The only one I found, was the stock one I already used.
Any ideas?

I had the same exact issue that you were having. It just happened randomly. The only option is to get a replacement phone. If you are on AT&T )i know for sure), they will cross ship you a new phone to replace yours.
Thanks, I'll return it to stock and test one more time. If it still fails, I'll try to get a replacment.
Ended up sending it in for repair. They repaired it on Waranty, sent it back with a scratch in the display. Sent it back again.. Haven't gotten it back yet (they're sloow), but seems this is a hardware issue.
HTC one m8 mic goes kaput
Hello guys,
I haven't been here for a while now. That's because I was still using my old SGS and experimenting CM on it. Nothing special, but now that SGS has become too slow and USB connection to PC wouldn't work. I bought an HTC one M8 last week, and guess what the mic wouldn't work. Same issue that is mentioned here. I tried blowing of the dust with an LP blower, resets and everything I can but it wouldn't work. I ran an HTC hardware test and in the audio test the main mic was not working though the 2nd mic seems to be fine.
Reading up all the user problems from various sites, I conclude that sending the phone back to service center is the only option. It's really sad as my phone is just a week old and I started liking it. I still like it but come on HTC one year down and you couldn't still resolve the issue. Apparently many have the same problem hence that is pain divided.
Cheers guys!!!
Edit : HTC hardware test code *#*#3424#*#* (if it helps someone)

How much is "many" (with the same problem)? Its deceiving to try to get a sense of how common an particular issue is, just by searching around the internet. Folks will usually only take to the internet when there is a problem; and this doesn't account for the thousands that don't have this issue (tends to blow the issue out of proportion). Can't speak for other websites, but I haven't seen this issue on XDA much at all for the M8. Every manufacturer has defects out of the box. Its the exact number or % defects that they often keep secret. You can't judge a manufacturer on one single defective device, its often just a matter of bad luck. Get a replacement and give it a chance, before you pass judgement.

Too "many" . Links that I read are here, here and here.
I agree with you that every manufacturer has defect, but this defect should have been sorted by HTC by now I believe. Don't get me wrong, I love the phone, it's amazing. But the primary use a phone is calling and that went wrong in a week made me a bit excited.
Cheers!

Going through those post, I see there are actually only around 8 individual folks reporting the problem on the M8 specifically. Some of the remaining complaints refer to the M7, which while HTC, is a completely different phone; so not really applicable IMO. And a few saying they have the same problem, but don't specify which phone they are talking about.
As I mentioned before, this is out of the thousands of M8's that have been sold. Sure, there are likely a good number of folks out there with the microphone issue, that haven't posted on any forums. But thousand and thousands more whose M8's work just fine, but not many folks take to the internet to post that "everything works as it should". Like I said, the internet can give you a distorted image of how serious or common an issue really is.
Not trying to start a fight, just making a point. I can sympathize with the frustration of having a expensive, brand new shiny phone not working correctly. But its likely just bad luck; and with any product, I'd recommend to give the vendor at least the chance to make it good before you conclude the entire company is crap. Not sure where you purchased from (store, carrier, etc.), country, and the exchange policy. But many vendors will replace with a brand new handset when the phone has been found to have a defect so soon as in your case.

Mic not working in HTC one M8
Hey All,
I had returned my phone to my suppliers and they returned it a week later telling me they repaired the issue. But after using it for 10 days, the mic wouldn't work again. I returned it again to the suppliers hoping that they would give me a replacement but they inform me today that they have repaired it now and they are sending it back. I will update again once I start using the phone.
Cheers!
I have the exact same strange problem with my M8 DualSim phone.
When i talk to people the first 2-3 sec is working fine, but then all they hear is static noice.
When i switch to loudspeaker on my phone, the microphone seems to Work fine thoug.
- i thought that there was only one microphone in the M8 ?
I have tried to power off and restart the phone, but that didn´t help at all..
My phone is on the latest 4.4.4 from HTC, it have never been rooted and never had any odd firmware loaded.
It seems like i have to send my 3 months phone old in for repair :crying:
UPDATE: Arter a few hours or sometimes days, the mic start working again...?
Actually i have two times now decided to send in the phone for repair, only to discover that it works again soon after...
But now i send it in nomatter what...?
It just happened to my M8 running digitalhigh's GPE 4.4.4 rom. This has got to be a software problem because first I couldn't hear the caller, then after a reboot, they couldn't hear me. So I used Skype and both the mic and earpiece work fine. Go figure.
i had the same problem too. What i did is just heating the bottom of the phone with hair dryer. And it is working well now.
Fixed
Hi all: I was having the same problem as everyone. Except sending my phone back was not an option—out of warranty. I fixed it by replacing two lines of code in the mixer_paths.xml file. I got the idea from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...google-low-t2805568/post53914918#post53914918
Towards the bottom of the file, I copy and pasted "main-mic" with "2nd-mic" and vice versa. That's it. Two copy and pastes, and I let the file references take care of the rest. Now my phone uses the 2nd mic as the main voice mic and people on the other end can hear me just fine.

I am on htc one e8 out of warranty which also has two mics. I dont know where is main mic but i see the secondary noise cancelation mic near rear camera lens. I run the htc hardware test with code and findout that my main mic dont work but secondary is fine. Can i try thiz on htc one e8 as they two are very similar
Also what did you change. Did you just replaced the name "main-mic" with "2nd-mic" or you replaced the texts underneath "main-mic" with texts uunderneath "2nd-mic"

That's exactly what I did. It works great for testing the audio and voip calls; but i'm still having issues with normal calls unless in speakerphone mode. I'm going to keep trying. Let me know if you have any luck.

Do you know the position of main mic on your HTC one M8 because i cannot find it on my HTC one E8.. sometime its dirt/dust which block the mic

Hi,
My microphone is not working as it should on the M8 when I get a call or call someone.
Any ideas?

Hace una semana compre el HTC ONE M8 por internet, todo funciona perfectamente, el problema es el microfono, cuando hablo por telefono la gente no me escucha pero yo a ellos si. De que manera se puede solucionar este problema? Alguien logro solucionarlo?
Agradeceria cualquier ayuda que me puedan brindar, estoy frustrado. Gracias.
