Running both android and WM on the touch pro? - Touch Pro, Fuze Android Development

Hey, I´m just wondering if it is possible to install android on the htc touch pro and still being able to use windows mobile. Maybe so you can choose operating system on startup. And if that´s possible i would really like to know how you do it, and if there are any risks about doing it
//Benmuskler

I'll try to not be a d!ck here, but it's pretty obvious you haven't done any reading.
First, we don't have a ROM. So Android would in no way replace WinMo. Android just goes onto the SD card and runs off of it (unless you have a diamond or something that doesn't have an SD card slot...)
Second, there is a ROM - do a search for Gen.Y - that allows you to choose WinMo or Android on boot. I've never used it, so I can't say how good it is. There's also a cab for it.
And next time, please use that search button, or just do a little reading? I know it can be hard but c'mon. Gotta give a little to get a little.

thank you very much! ill try it right now. And i promise, next time I will search before I ask. Thanks again

ok... Now I have been trying to install it for a couple of hours... When I start the phone I can choose between WM or Android. When I select android i get to choose a text file with boot-settings in. After I select the one for my phone everything just freezes. I have been letting it load for a long time, but nothing happens. Does anybody know whats wrong? :S
please help
thank you.

Honestly I'd ask for help in the Gen.Y thread. Assuming you setup your Android portion (you did set that up, right?) correctly, I thought it just went. But I've never used it, and this really isn't the right place to be asking the question.
EDIT - actually, you should probably read thru the Gen.Y thread to get an idea of what you may have done wrong before asking a question.

The first time I boot Android with a new build it always takes a while, I'd say sometimes around three minutes. How long did you leave it? Was the boot animation still moving?

Is There A Way ?

Howdy all... This is a Great Forum, I have really enjoyed it, and I thank all who have contributed their hard work making ROMs for HTC's.
I am not a Programmer, Just a Physician.... so I have a question.
I like so many others have flashed numerous ROMS to my 8525 searching for a stable, fast, dependable operating system for my phone.
Now that I have flashed so many ROM's, I think my phone is really confused. With each new ROM, it starts out fine, then the phone turns schizophrenic.... Things flash on and off and I can not control them. Sometimes the screen just locks up and even with a hard rebooting and pulling the battery... nothing cures it.
My question.... Is there a way to purge the system completely, start fresh? Like formating a hard drive to start fresh? I realiize the HTC doesnt have a hard drive, so that is out of the question. But is there a way to do the same so that the next ROM I flash will be somewhat stable?
Any help will be most appreciated.
Thanks to all Developers that are the Doctors to HTC's the same way that Physicians are to humans.

Well if it gets too confused make sure you get a shipped ROM handy at hand and don't forget to follow the doctor's orders.
Thanks
I would like to thank you for your quick response. I have downloaded the ATT ROM and the correct Radio as well as the instructions.
I will begin lifesaving techniques to my HTC and post the results.
Thanks Again, You are the Greatest!

Hi Zocster and fellow forum members,
Well I followed your instructions to the letter, only to discover that some of the tools do not work on a laptop that has Vista. So after fighting with that all day, I just let it rest a while and will tackle it again tomorrow.
Oh one question... what is the thing in the upper right corner of the phone, it has 3 diagonal liines and a triangle, when it opens it shows what programs are running. Is there a way to turn that option off? Also what can cause the touch screen to work some times and not work at other times? It is really frustratiing..
Any advise will be most appreciated.
Thanks
Doc
firstly to the point of saying you have problems flashing in vista, download sp1 install it and all other updates. Then download the latest version of WMDC(windows mobile device center) and you shouldnt have any problems, i have vista and have no trouble whatsoever flashing in vista.
The thing with the the 3 diagona lines and triangle that you mention is a task manager to kill programs that are running to allow you to free memory on the phone and allow it to run faster. Depending on what rom you flashed it will either be in add /remove programs or hard coded into the rom. If its in add/remove it will be call htc task manager just remove it. If its cooked into the rom the only way of removing it is to flash another rom. I cant see that being part of your problem though.
The touch screen problem might not be a screen problem per sa, your device maybe just running slow and the phone freezes temporarily to allow to finish what it is doing? have you tried or even realised what the page pool size is of the roms you are flashing? try flashing one with a 8mb page pool and see if that runs better. There is a tool to change page pool size floating about on here
I would though flash a stock(operator) rom first though then flash another rom. Try pda corners latest rom thats pretty fast, i am not saying its the best ,but it is quick and i like it

well doc, as you want to turn this option off, the program is usually called "Task Manager" or "HTC Task Manager" and you can find it in "Settings -> [Tab]System ->Task Manager " and you can switch it off by going to the [Tab]Button and to un-tick the option "Enable Quick menu on Today screen".
another way to go to its settings is by clicking on it and then clicking on the "wrench" symbol.
concerning Vista issues, I never had a problem with it as i was using Vista before publishing SP1 and I did the SuperCID, HardSPL and the first upgrades under Vista... anyways, on Hermes wiki pages you can check solution#24 of Hermes Upgrade FAQ
good luck

How to install NFSFAN's custom Roms

Hi i was wondering if there was anyone out there who was kind enough to explain in detail how to install this Rom because by the looks of the pictures and the reviews, it is a great Rom. OH and if there is an answer to this already, please direct me to it because i have searched for hours and cannot find anything.
Thanks in advance
How far is your knowledge when it comes to custom ROMs? Do you have your phone unlocked?
If your phone isn't unlocked, go here:http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20370
I could use a little help to. My phone is unlocked and I have flashed another rom before but when I download the rom file I can't do anything with it. I seem to remember using another program to handle the rom file before flashing but I have looked and looked and have come up empty handed. Someone pointing in the right direction would be great.
Basically I am stuck between getting the file on the computer and starting to flash. I can get my phone to the color screen and all.
Terms you should know before-hand, haha:
-The color RGB color screen is called the Bootloader mode (you get to it by holding the power button + camera button, and sticking you stylus in the slot at the bottom of you phone to reset.)
-Hard-reseting: Flashing the phone to default state of the flashed ROM. (Hold talk key + end call key, and sticking you stylus in the slot at the bottom of you phone to reset.)
-Soft-reseting: Simply restarting your phone. (Sticking you stylus in the slot at the bottom of you phone to reset.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
0. Unlock Phone. (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20370)
1. Go in to Boot-loader mode. (Text towards the bottom of the screen
should read "Serial" if you phone isn't connected to the PC.)
2. Connect phone to PC. ("Serial" text should change to "USB")
3. Extract the files from .rar file you download. (Use Winrar.)
4. Run ROMUpdateUtility.exe and follow the on screen instructions.
- Your phone will start showing a progress bar when the flashing starts.
- Once done, the phone will restart. (Should reset and windows should boot, but still do step 5.)
5. Hard-reset the phone.
6. Dance in place.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
*pants* Hope that helps!
Stickfigure, thanks a bunch for your summary of the ROM loading process! My Sprint Touch has been giving me lots of problems (freezing on incoming calls, data connection stops working randomly, phone not wanting to get out of roam and back into EV mode, and many many more). Needless to say, it is frustrating and I want to throw it at a wall. I'm sure my reset button is going to fail since I've poked it so many times.
Anyways, I've been wanting to install a custom ROM and finally have the chance during my spring break from classes, but I wasn't quite sure how to do it. Your post definitely helps.
One more question...is the process basically the same if I want to install a different custom ROM? If you know of any other tutorial or noob info pages that might help me I'd appreciate it too.
Thanks again!
Stickfigure, thanks for the instructions. Winrar was the piece that I was missing. Once I installed that I had the new rom installed the the phone was working fine in a bout 15 minutes.

There are some great tutorials out there for beginners, one of the best of which is Dharvey's "UPDATED- CONSOLIDATED Rev A./GPS TUTORIAL" found on PPCGeeks; it is no longer available for some reason, but you may be able to find a repost somewhere.

[ROM] Android Launcher Light ROM

- I've created this nbh for fun. Dont think this will be an updated work. I just think that someone would play with it and so it is here. -
WARNING: This is not a WindowsMobile ROM. This has just WM core actually required to launch Android.
Do you want only to use android, and you don't want to boot in WM before booting Android? This is what you need!
How it works:
It checks for haret.exe in your sd. If it is here, it launchs it immediately. You will see Android booting in 5 sec +/-
If it is not here it shuts down automatically your phone. There will be no booting in WM anyway!
Why? Fast booting is due to lack of most drivers and extensions. You won't be able to do anything in WM part...
Happy playing.

If there is no driver, I guess nothing works in android (since the reason why there is no android ROM is because of the need of wince driver inits...).
So does USB work ? touchscreen ? data connection ? capactivie pad ?
Anyway, it sounds really great.
I have some requests though: a diam image, an option (vol up pressed at startup ?) to export the internal mmc on usb (internal storage sucks.), and a big contiguous space on the nand so that we can put android in this space.
I have a really ridicules question to you guys, since i'm no developer and just a simple minded end user
The hardware on most of HTC's phones seems to be exactly the same, with really minor differences in them (all based around the same qualcomm chipset). Why is it not possible to simply flash a HERO Android Rom, onto an identical "more or less" WM type of device?
I know it probably won't work, and would/could/should brick the mobile, but question is why?

This doesn't work. Just keeps looping "HTC quietly brilliant" splash screen. Did anyone actually try it? Maybe it's the type of flash card I am using (just a small 512MB formatted FAT). But this rom isn't working as intended...
Just tried reformatting FAT32. No dice.
Update 14JAN10: Not sure what mischy is talking about later "haret.exe that will automatically load" (doesn't startup.txt decide that?), but it definitely does not work for me -- it just loops through the HTC screen and keeps rebooting. Michy if there is a specific haret.exe to use, or something else (other than having a valid startup.txt) can you please tell us? I have unzipped the latested Connect-utb xandroid package and used haret.exe included - didn't work. Also tried directly from haret.exe author site -- didn't work. Also tried version linked here on XDA on the XDADEvloperWiki for Raphael. didn't work.
Gonna give this a shot, see what problems/joys I encounter
I wonder, since it seems haret requires stuff already activated in winmo to work in android, if this will affect anything, but I have also booted into Android with 3g off, but could still get it in Android.
EDIT: Okay, I tried it, and all I have gotten in the past hour or so is "Booting Linux" printed across my screen, and nothing. I've let it sit there for five minutes or so, nothing. Reset at least 6 times. Nothing. Done it with USB plugged in and with USB plugged out. Using a fuze, and have hard reset it twice since flashing.

+1 for diamond GSM
to who haves devices locked on booting linux check first if problem is mine or yours before saying "this doesn't work".
You need a version of haret which AUTOMATICALLY boots not which requires user input
please cook for HTC DIamond ^^
Great work michyprima!!!
Great work, hope this works, so you don't need the windows mobile with drivers!!
Seems to be very speedy 5 seconds!!
Once, when everything works in android i will keep this as an option, since more and more is working in android!!!

Tilt 2 into Android shop or personel?

I want to make my tilt 2 dual boot into win 6.5 and android.
I know there are instructions here but I don't know much about phones and flashing and ROM's and whatnot. I looked through some topics and they all seem confusing...
I don't want to brick my phone so I was wondering if there is a shop, store, or person near SoCal that can do it for me for a reasonable price? I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask or even if it's legal but I assume it is?
Thank you.
heres a quick walkthrough. download the cab from here. where it says download. sync your phone and your pc with active sync. click explore on active sync and copy the cab you just downloaded to your phone. when thats done unplug. then find the cab on your phone and pick it to start the install. when it asks where to install "phone or storage card" pick storage card. wait a while for it to finish. when thats done open the start menu and find the project android icon and pick that. once that opens click on menu and then update. on the next screen click update and wait a while. eventually it will say it completed and click ok. then click the check mark. back on the first screen pick "tilt2" then "run android" wait a while for it to start.
for any other questions see the android wiki in my signature below

[Q] ICS alpha 5

Hello everyone, First time posting long time reader. Only rooted about 30 phones so far, so I am still a noob. Well I decided to go ahead and try out the ICS alpha 5. It is working for the most part. Here is my problem. I can not get on the market to download anything. So, I thought maybe a bad install. Powered down the phone went into hboot to rewipe, and reinstall.
This is when things go wrong. Selected wipe, and nothing, so I tried to select install from zip, and nothing. Had to pull battery to do hard restart. So, I was okay, let try this a different way. Loaded the phone backup, and connected to PC, and went to change to MTP so I could transfer over the APK files. It force closes everytime I try to do anything.
Here is what I would like to try and happen. I would like to try another ROM, or another ICS, but I can not figure out a way to get it onto the phone, and with hboot messed up, I am running out of options that I am aware of.
Thank you for any help that is provided, even the bad news. (BTW love the I am noob video)
Personally I wouldn't call having rooted 30 phones a "noob" but that is just me. Unless of course you mean the same phone, 30 different times I've only ever owned the Incredible
Since you claim to be a noob, hopefully this question won't offend you...
Did you remember to flash the Google Apps package liked to in kush's main post?
EDIT: Sorry I didn't read the whole thing so I didn't see that you actually had two problems. For the market problem, see above. For the question about how to get something on to your SD card without MTP...
As tiny4579 below me said, Alpha 5 is supposed to have USB mass storage, so I would use that
If that doesn't work, you can download this
Alternatively, you can use samba filesharing for a wireless option (transfer will be slower)
Or... just download the ROM on the phone, then you don't need to transfer anything
Not sure if MTP works on this phone. Its not available on stock sense. Use USB mass storage and see how that works. I saw posted that alpha 5 should support it. If not there are apps for that.

Not offended at all. Just wanted to get that out. I can't install the Google app pack due to not being able to do anything from hboot. I will try your other way you suggested and see if I can get it to work. Thanks for the quick reply.
need to make sure
okay I am wanting to make sure I am doing this right. I have internet access on the phone and am able to surf with it just fine. When I go to the market place via webpage, and click install, It never installs anything. I look in the download folder and nothing. Not sure what other option's I have.
btw, this is the first time I have had any issues, so I guess now is as good as any other time to have one.

If you can't flash the gapps package, then you wont be able to get things from the market, either through the web interface or through your phone.
You can get the gapps package by just opening up xda in your browser and navigating to that post and downloading it from there, but I don't know if you can just extract the zip and install the apks. I think you probably need to be able to flash it, but I'm not sure.
It seems like your best course of action would be to figure out how to fix your hboot, since that seems to be the main problem. If you can't find anything by searching I would create a new, more aptly-titled, post.
yeah, not sure I will be able to unzip it on my phone either. I might just chalk this one up to oops. I might head on over to the store and check out that nexus. This way I will have my ICS already lol. Plus the inc has been a good phone for the many years, but 4.6" screen is just calling my name.
I might have messed up my phone on a subconsciousness level.
Update
Just wanted to give an update. I am somewhat up and running again. What i had to do was take the memory out of my phone, put it in one of the adapters, and format fat32 again, and put the copy of the Stock rom back on it. That has the phone up, Hboot is still jacked up. Going to start a new thread to see if anyone else has had the problems I have. Thanks for your input.
